Retain Wireless Settings

Hi,
I set up my wireless network at home, complete with some security settings including NOT broadcasting the SSID and using WEP encryption.
Then I went to my campus and followed the University's instructions for connecting to their "secure" WiFi network (as opposed to the open one). This involved opening "Internet Connect", going to the File menu, adding a new 802.1X connection, and inputting the required settings.
Unfortunately, this somehow "overrode" my at home wireless network. What I mean is that when I used to open my laptop at home, AirPort would automatically connect to my home network despite the fact that the SSID was not being broadcast. I assumed that my home network was somehow a trusted network that would be searched for and connected to automatically. NOW, when I go home, my computer doesn't connect to my wireless network automatically. I have to go to the AirPort menu, click on "other..." in the list of available networks, and manually reenter the SSID and WEP key. This is tedious. How can I restore the previous behaviour?

Umm, I would really like some help with this issue please...

  • Every time I close FF it reverts to new install settings and doesn't retain any settings, I have uninstalled & reinstalled but no change - help

I installed FF and used it without issue, but on loading it for me next session and every subsequent session it reverts to the state it was as a new install including not retaining any settings for loaded extensions. This is a total pain and is likely to lead me to uninstalling if I cannot find a fix soon. I have uninstalled and re-installed and tried re-set but neither has made any difference.

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

  • Export to PDF doesn't retain page settings

Create a report with lots of columns and then change the page settings to be landscape and shrink to fit. Now run the report and print the report as a PDF. It works as expected.
Now export this same report as a PDF. The export will not retain the page settings. Instead, it will export the PDF in portrait and it will not shrink to fit.
If you email the report to someone, it also doesn't retain the page settings.
I opened a TAR on this issue and I was told this was not a current feature of Discoverer. Exporting does not retain page settings by design and it would be an enhancement request to get this new functionality.
We build a lot of custom Oracle Reports right now so that users can drill from one level to another. With OracleBI Discoverer, I can now do this with linking to sheets. With Oracle Reports, I can render the report in PDF format which is a business requirement. With OracleBI Discoverer, I can do this too except I can't export the PDF because it doesn't fit on the page correctly.
    Anyone else need this functionality?
On another "enhancement request" note, I would like to be able to schedule exports. OracleBI Discoverer is getting close to providing an alternative to Oracle Reports which is great because it is faster to build and deploy reports and it is licensed by the CPU so I don't have to worry about buying Report Builder licenses. Lastly, business users can build their own reports rather than someone in IT doing it.

ok, here's what I have found out (thanks to our Viewer guru, Matthew):
The print/PDF preferences are currently not saved, so you are right when you say you have to re-apply those settings.
However, there is a way to persist these changes within a session (note that since these changes are session-resident only, you will lose them once you exit Viewer).
The short one line explanation of the workaround is to make the changes using the 'Printable Page' link, generate a 'Preview' or the entire PDF report, and then use the worksheet breadcrumb link to return to the worksheet. This ensures that the PDF changes you made are available during the sesion to the worksheet. You can always undo these settings by clicking the 'Revert to saved' link.
I have posted the same information, but with screenshots, to http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/12/pdf-settings-in-viewer.html

  • Doesn't retain any settings

My Safari 3 Beta (S3b) doesn't retain any settings... homepage, window size, bookmarks, tab settings (anything in the preferences for that matter) when I close and reopen S3b. I posted a bug report, but anyone have any ideas here?
    Joe Mac
    WinXP SP2

fairly experimental advice, since i've only had the puppy installed on belladonna for a few ... hours, it would be still ...
... but let's check to see if this is an issue with damaged preference files.
    Quit Safari.
in XP, the Safari preference files live in the following two locations:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
You might have to turn on "Show hidden files and folders" to find the preference folders (Application Data and Local Settings are "hidden" folders). Right-click "My Computer", select "Open", go "Tools > Folder Options". Click the "View" tab. The "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.
("username" here is the name of the user account on the PC that you're getting this problem in. for example, on belladonna "username" = "owner".)
drag those two folders to the desktop, and then try launching Safari again. (that should rebuild your preference folders.)
do changes to your preferences "stick" now, with fresh preference folders in place?

  • Photo Downloader doesn't retain previous settings (again)

Please see previous post because this issue involves Photo Downloader and ACR.
    I'm using 10.6.8, CS5.1 and Bridge 4.1.0.54
I have just reloaded Camera Raw 6.4.1 due to the bug in ACR 6.5 that prevents selecting a destination folder in Photo Downloader and causing  Bridge to freeze.
6.4.1 solves the freeze problem, but now it's back to the problem that none of the settings in Advanced Dialog are retained, nor does Photo Downloader default to Advanced Dialog anymore.  I've added the CS5 folder as before (User/Library/Application Support/Adobe) alongside the existing CS5.1 folder, but it hasn't solved the problem.  Is there a new solution to this yet?
6.4.1 works fine on my MBP using the above workaround (CS5 folder added).  Because I now have a dozen new student iMacs to set up, my three-part second question is: has ACR 6.6 been tested for these two bugs; should I wait before setting up the iMacs; how long before ACR 6.6 is officially released?

Thanks Omke.  I¹ll try that next time I¹m in the lab.  However, on my
MacBook Pro I checked the CS5.1 folder, and there is no ³APDPreferences.xml²
in that location (it is there in CS5 folder but I couldn¹t open it).  On the
iMacs, I¹m only running CS5.1.  Is there a different location for it in
    CS5.1?
I¹m wondering if I¹m the only one running Mac OS 10.6.8, Bridge 4.1.0.54 and
ACR 6.5 who¹s having this problem?

      It¹s baffling,
That is to put it mildly you mean, can't imagine that is the only word that
came to your mind...   Have you tried to repair permissions for OSX
again? I don't have the 5.5 installed so can't compare but if one system
does work, another not and you have compared both files and folders
existence in the two systems  it does seem to be OS related to me? There is
    also a file called "APDPreferences.xml" (user/library/Application Support/
Adobe/Bridge CS5) Can you open the files on both systems and compare the
content, it contains the settings made in advanced dialog.

  • Can't configure wireless settings on P1102w using a mac

Hi there. I can't configure wireless settings on P1102w using a mac. I have it installed with USB just fine but I want to use eprint (with ios airplay). I run the setup utility looking for some wireless setup option, but it never appears. When I finish the install it tells me to go to the eprint website to download eprint. At that site it has me download the firmware update, which I do, and then at the end of that it tells me to go to the eprint website again, which then downloads the firmware update again. It's an endless loop.
I know I need to get to the built in web server but the config page tells me I don't have an IP address. Which makes sense to me because it hasn't been set up.  I can't for the life of me find how to set up the wireless using the driver software on the Mac OS. I try to follow the manuals instructions, but it looks like it is designed for windows users, and the buttons it tells me to look for just don't exist on the mac HP driver software.
    Can you help?

    Hi,
The Wireless configuration should be made by using the EWS page, which also accessible from Mac OS over a USB connection through the printer setup.
You may find the steps listed below:
Click the Apple icon, then clickSystem Preferences.
    Click Print & Fax.
Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
    Click on Printer Setup
    Then select Utility
    Click Open Printer Utility
    Click HTMLConfig. The EWS opens.
    Click the Networking tab
Then click Wireless from the list on the left
Under Communication Mode, click Infrastructure, select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list, and then click the << button.
From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication, click WEP or WPA/WPA2. Your selection  depends on which Wireless Security Protocol your network uses.
Type your WEP/WPA/WPA2 key in the appropriate field, and then click Apply.
In the confirmation box, click OK and then close the HTML Config and Print Queue windows.
Once done, allow 3 minutes to fully establish the connection, then unplug the USB.
Enter Print & Fax and remove the existing USB Print Queue.
Click the Plus button and add the printer over the network.
Please let me know of any issue,

  • How do I change my HP Photosmart C4580 printer wireless settings using the apple provided drivers?

I have a mac pro running the Yosemite OS.  I have a HP Photosmart C4589 all in one printer that had been working fine until I replace my router.
Now I can only use the printer as a usb.  I know I need to change the wireless settings in the printer but have not learned how to do so.
The printer software is not compatible with Yosemite so I cannot use the hp software to change from usb to wireless.
Based on all that I have read I tried to download replacement hp software and still had no way to change the printer wireless settings.
I uninstalled that software and went to Apple and downloaded drivers but there is no software that will allow me to change the printer wireless settings.
    What can I do now?

From the front of the printer (probably the Wireless or Network menu), Restore Network Defaults.
    Now on your PC:
    1. Start > Control Panel > Printers - delete the printer.
    2. Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard > [C4500 series] > Add a Device.  You will want to add a network device.  Eventually it will ask you to connect a USB cable to the printer in order to communicate the network info to the printer.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How can I change the country in my Airport Extreme wireless settings

I bought my Airport Extreme in the US.  I live in the UK.
How can I change the wireless settings to show the UK (or Europe) as one of the available countries?  At the moment it lists only countries in the Americas (Canada, US, Argentina etc...)

    Others may know better!
    Regards,
    Shawn
This is exactly correct.. You can set the Time Zone to anywhere in the world but the wireless is regionalised.. it is part of the sales approach that you should buy the product in the market where it will be used.. the following are the regions.
    From the md0a file.
FCC JAPAN ETSI APAC ROW FCC-DFS KOREA RUSSIA
You cannot alter this nor do Apple offer this service.. although I am pretty sure they will have a backdoor.
I have altered it for interest sake by soldering in a console port.. stop the bootloader and the following commands.
    K30A>var
    apple-sku=ETSI
    apple-sn=6F94sxxssxxss
    ethaddr=00:2xxxssxxb
    K30A>
    K30A>setvar apple-sku=APAC
    K30A>
    K30A>var
    apple-sku=APAC
    apple-sn=6F94sssxxxx
    ethaddr=00:2sxxxssxxss
If you want the pin out to the serial port.. well I can even give you those. At least for a TC.. I am not in any way recommending this.. just showing you where it is hidden.
And this so far would only work on a Gen 4 or Gen 5 AE.. I haven't figured it out on Gen 1-3 nor of course am I about to try soldering in wireless to a Gen6 AE or Gen5 TC.. doubtless it will come to that at some point.

  • "Authentication Type" greyed out in Advanced Wireless Settings (WRT54G)

I wish to change my Authentication Type from Auto to Shared Key in my Wireless -> Advanced Wireless Settings section of my web-based admin utility. However, it's been greyed out for some reason.
I understand that the Shared Key mode is more secure than the Auto mode, therefore I wish to change it. Would anyone happen to know as to why this would be greyed out like this and how I can fix it so that I can have access to the options? I'm using WRT54G V.6 with firmware v.1.01.1 (the latest one from linksys). TIA.

I think I figured it out. I'm currently using WPA Personal mode and as I understand it, only WEP mode applies to whether you're using an Open System or Shared Key. Can someone please confirm this for me? TIA.

  • Best practice of Wireless settings E4200

I Have a Linksys E4200 router and would like to know what the best practice is for the Wireless settings?
    My settings are currently:
This is good or should I change something, for example difference Network name for both or channel ?
    Please somebody help/advise me.

Optimal settings. And also be sure to give the network's 2 different names. Example. HomeNetwork and HomeNetwork5G 2.4GHz Mixed: If you have mixed devices. If not. G or N. Channel Width: 20MHz Channel: 1,6 or 11. 5GHz N only. Channel Width: 40MHz Channel: Does not matter on the 5GHz band.

  • Looking For Optimal Wireless Settings For Multiple WRT310N's

Folks, I have 3 Linksys WRT310N routers (all at the most current level firmware) around my house serving as both wired and wireless access points.  I have Verizon DSL service (3 MB) as my ISP.  We have a couple of IBM T60p laptops (w/Win XP Pro), a Lenovo S12 netbook (w/Win 7), and my son also has an Apple iPod Touch all that access our home network via the wireless network provided by the WRT310N's.  The WRT310N's all have unique static IP addresses (DHCP disabled - IP addresses being issued by the Verizon DSL modem/router).  My current wireless settings are as follows:
    Wireless / Basic Wireless Setings:
    Wireless Configuration = Manual
    Network Mode = Mixed
Network Name (SSID) = (something other than linksys!)
    Radio Band = Auto
    Wide Channel = Auto
    Standard Channel = Auto
SSID Broadcast = Enabled (Need enabled or the Apple iPod Touch will not find the wireless network)
    Wireless / Wireless Security:
    Security Mode = WPA2 Personal
    Encryption = TKIP or AES
Passphrase = (Something really clever here!)
    Key Renewal = 3600 seconds
    Wireless / Wireless MAC Filter:
Enabled (With all the appropriate MAC addresses permitted)
    Wireless / Advanced Wireless Settings:
    AP Isolation = Enabled
    Frame Burst = Enabled
Authentication Type = Auto (greyed out - can NOT change)
    Basic Rate = Default
Transmission Rate = Auto (greyed out - can NOT change)
    N Transmission Rate = Auto
    CTS Protection Mode = Auto
    Beacon Interval = 100
    DTIM Interval = 1
    Fragmentation Threshold = 2346
    RTS Threshold = 2347
My goal is obviously to provide the best performance on all the wireless devices that we have.  Since the laptops and netbook have a variety of OS's (and sometimes our neighbor comes over with his Mac laptop) I'd like to keep it flexable for those PC's and the Apple iPod Touch.  I've also read that if you have multiple wireless access points you should set them all to different channels.  If so, which channels?  Or, should they all be on the same channel so one could walk from room to room without losing their wireless connection?  Since I have 3 WRT310N's I'm interested in what recommendations there are for performance to keep the laptops and netbook communicating using wireless "N" yet keeping compatible for the Apple iPod Touch on wireless "G".  Thank you all in advance for any advice or info.

Hmmmm, for quite some time I've left the SSID the same on all the WRT310N routers.  At one time a while back I was told to do this by a Linksys technician.  They all are cascaded (LAN-to-LAN via the ethernet ports) off of the 4 ethernet ports on the Verizon DSL modem/router in the similar manner described in the following article:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=96&s...
(Switch) ethernet port 1 on each WRT310N is connected to ports 1 through 3 on the Verizon DSL modem/router.  Hence, each WRT310N is acting as an access point (wired and wireless) throughout the house.  I do NOT use the 'Internet' port on any of my WRT310N routers.  They each have a static (fixed) IP address like 192.16.1.10, 192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12.  They all reside on the same LAN subnet as my Verizon DSL modem/router which is responsible for issuing DHCP IP addresses for the entire home network.  The remaining (switched) ethernet ports 2, 3, and 4 on each WRT310N is left open for local hard-wired devices like printers and multimedia devices (like XBox 360, etc.).  So bottom line is that each WRT310N is acting like a 4-port network switch that also has wireless capabilities (like a WAP).
By keeping the SSID the same on all the WRT310N routers I can keep a single wireless profile on each device (i.e... PC's) for my entire house.  So I can go and access WRT310N #1 (with let's say with SSID 'ABC') in my living room and later go into my home office room and access WRT310N #2 (with the same SSID - 'ABC') with the same wireless profile.  I believe it is the same concept used when someone stays at a hotel and accesses their public wireless network.  That way the hotel customers only have to set their SSID to let's say 'HILTON' regardless of which floor or room they are in.
So the part that I'm really focusing on is the wireless performance aspect.  My laptops like to operate on 'N' and get pretty good connection speeds (usually receive around 270 Mbps).  The Apple iPod Touch (2nd generation) only goes up to 'G' so I believe I need to keep a 'Mixed' Network Mode.  The part I'm not so sure about is the Channel Width and whether or not all 3 Linksys routers should be on the same channel (or set to Auto) or if I should manually set the channels and provide some separation between their channels.  That's where 'Channel Width' and 'Channel' settings get a bit over my head.  Now when I previously had multiple 'G' Linksys routers I contacted Linksys Technical Support and they said to use the same SSID and that I should separate the channels, but that was with their earlier 'G' versions.  Now that I have a more recent [N] version and the channel settings can be 'Auto' I'm wondering if the correct settings would still be to again separate the channels or maybe leave it up to the routers to function in 'Auto' mode.
And if I need to set each router up individually what recommended settings should they be?  As follows:
    WRT310N #1:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
    WRT310N #2:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
    WRT310N #3:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
Here is a Cisco web page that I'm using as a reference:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=21194
I'm also looking for any suggestions on tuning the Advanced Wireless Settings like Beacon Interval, Fragmentation Threshold, RTS Threshold, etc.  Again, my wireless user devices are both G and N and have various OS's.
Thank you again in advance for all your help!!

    Hi,
I understand your issue. The DHCP management console won't save the view customize settings.
We could customize the DHCP management console using MMC (Microsoft Management console)snap-in, customize it and save it to a place. Doing this makes the console remembered the configuration.
More information regarding MMC, please take a look at the below link:

For the DHCP management console does not remember the customization, this might by design. If we want to make a customized DHCP console shortcut, we could take a try to enter DHCP in author mode, more detailed steps, please take a check with the post of

    Greetings,
I've just managed to reset the WRT 300N to default settings and have setup the internet conncection etc and home network ... BUT no matter how I've fiddled with the wireless settings I cannot get any of the laptops or mobile phones to connect wirelessly to the network.
The Windows software on the laptops 'finds' the router OK but for some reason the router seems unwilling to supply an IP address.
I've checked ALL of the settings that I can think of, and all are correct ... well, all are exactly the same as my old router which worked perfectly.
It's something that I think muxt be to do with the security settings.
Can anyone offer any suggestions ??
    THanks

Do you actually see a weak signal shown on the Apple TV when it is connected to your network. The problem may not be a weak signal, it may be interference from other networks or electrical devices.
