Retaining Faces "names" on exporting for another Mac

I’m running Snow Leopard (10.6.6) and iPhoto ’09 (8.1.2). I have a folder full of pictures taken at Christmas. I have just titled them with the date and names of people, imported them into iPhoto and done whatever editing was necessary (red eye, enhance, etc.) and “named” the individuals in each photo.
As the official “photo-fixer” for the family, I will exported all of them to a folder for other family members. Is there anyway to “save” the names as they are in iPhoto (I don’t mean in the title) so that when others family members import them into iPhoto on their Macs, they don’t have to go through the name identification process again?

I have just titled them with the date and names of people, imported them into iPhoto and done whatever editing was necessary (red eye, enhance, etc.) *and “named” the individuals in each photo*.
This is not clear to me
If you have the names as titles and you do the export including titles then the exported titles will have the names include as the title
However if you have only "names" the people using the iPhoto "faces" feature then there is no way to export the "faces names" since there is no defined standard place to put "faces names"
You can put the names in Keywords and export the keywords

Hi There:  I am having a problem where pdf files on the web (i.e., links in a Word doc) open after an extended time and only as gobbldygook ( a file containing a series of characters and letters that make no sense).  This also happens for another Mac user coworker in my office, while the PCs don't have this problem...  Any help/suggestions for a fix would be most appreciated!

Just adding more info - MacBookPro running 10.5.8 and using Safari as the browser.  The problem comes and goes - sometimes the linked Word files will open OK, n others its just a strring of crazy characters...

  • I'm hiring a Macbook Pro, using Aperture and want to know how to export too another Mac?

    Hi.
I'm hiring a macbook pro for the day, and will be using Aperture. I am going to be shooting  four to five projects in RAW format and would like to know the following sequences of how to save all the images and re install the images onto my own personal mac at the end of the day? So the hired laptop has none of my images on and the images processed and edited to go back on my imac at home!
How do i save the images? Whats the best using a mobile hard drive?
Do I open a new vault and save, then drag the vault over to the mobile Hard drive?
Or is there a simpler way? As i'm very new to all this backing up etc!
    Answers always appreicaited!

Hi Jettone.  As I see, you have three things (at least) to address.
How to bring your days work into your existing Aperture Library is the easiest of them.  Import your "day" Library into your current Library using "File→Import→Library/Project" and then select "Add" from the dialog box.  Full instructions -- and information you'll want to know for your project -- are on this page of the User Manual:
    Working with Library Files
The second-easiest thing you face is how to connect the two machines to make the transfer.  There are many good ways to do this (wired, wireless, ad hoc, etc.).
The only difficulty you face (other than making good captures ), is deciding how much data-security you need, and how to implement it.  If you have a spare external FW drive around, I'd take it and periodically copy the new Aperture Library (your "day" Library) to it.  Then make one final copy, and use it to transfer the day's work to your current Library before you turn in the rented laptop.
If you don't have a spare FW drive hanging around -- buy one.  Get a quad-interface with FW800 and/or eSATA.  Think of it as a thumb drive for photographers.
(Forget about Vaults.  They serve no purpose for you in this regard.)

  • Using iWeb to create a site for another .Mac family pack user

I started a new site in iWeb for our son today, but I can't see how to upload it so it resides in his part of the family account we have on .mac.
    Is this possible?
If not, if I publish his pages how does it interact with our main family site that is currently uploaded.

But with two sites in iWeb now, what will end up on my son's part of the site when I hit publish? Should I try to keep changes to just one site or the other and do the user ID switch, or will it try to post all the pages to each account?

  • Can I create & publish site for another .Mac user?

My wife is a .Mac member and I piggybacked a .Mac e-mail address through her account. Now I'm trying to help my father, a recent Mac convert and .Mac member, by creating a website for him with my version of iWeb 08. When I open iWeb on my computer (first time as I've always used Dreamweaver to create websites), I'm locked out of pretty much everything (I'm assuming because I'm not a full .Mac member which it's somehow linking to). If I have my father's .Mac info, can I create a site for him and upload it for him on my computer, and if so, how would I do this?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    ~Chris

All you need to do to post to his .Mac account is find out what his .Mac username and password are and input them into the .Mac pane of System Preferences. That will give iWeb access to his .Mac space. If you end up getting your own .Mac at a later time, you will have to change that info in System Prefs.
I created a separate user on my computer for a 2nd website that I publish for my church. That way I keep all the iWeb and .Mac account info separate without having to jump through any hoops - I just have to switch users.

  • Is it possible for another Mac to view my own, i.e watch what I do while using the computer, without interfering and using it themselves?

Nothing serious, I just wondered whether other people in my household could view my computer as I use it without me knowing?

    Hey mate.
Yeah, there are plenty of programs out there that can do this, in corporate environments, you can understand how this kind of thing might be handy (watching employees etc).
Applications like JollysFastVNC or Chicken of the VNC, or even the in-built Screen Sharing option in the Finder (so long as the computer that is being watched has 'Screen Sharing' enabled in the System Preferences > Sharing menu.
However, in most cases, if you go to Remote Management > Computer Settings > and tick "Show Remote Management icon in the task bar" - This will basically show a pair of Binoculars when no one is watching your screen, and it will show binoculars inside a screen when someone is watching you, handy for those aforementioned employees (hehe ;D)
    Hope this helps mate!
    Regards,
    Zet.

  • Can I use my account to buy an app for another Mac user?

I'm a registered user in the UK and have bought apps there. I'm currently in New Zealand and my hosts are Mac users. I want to buy them some software as a gift and install it on their machine, not mine (mine is back in the UK anyway). Is there any way of doing this?

Somehow I did it! After being rejected when I tried to sign in with my Apple ID on the grounds that I wasn't in the UK, the App Store offered my Pages in UK currency. I gave my password again and Bingo it started to download Pages into my friend's Mac. I think this is some kind of loophole, but it does appear to have worked. I am slightly puzzled about how I got here, but I did...

  • Downloaded mavericks for one mac can i use the same download to install on another mac

I have downloaded for 12 hours initial installation on one mac for mavericks, and all installed successfully. Rather than download again for another mac, can I use the same download and copy on to the other mac..and if yes, where will I find it?

All you need to do is go to System Preferences > App Store and uncheck the automatic install of updates box, then download the Mavericks installer, and copy to a flash drive.  You will need a flash drive of 8 G B or more since the installer is around 5.3 GB.  The installer will be in Finder > Applications.  You can then copy that flash drive installer to the Applications folders in all the Macs you have that are capable of running Mavericks, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
When the installer runs, the last step in the installtion is for the installer to erase itself.  So makng a copy before the installer runs is essential if you want to avoid redownloading.
Installing from the same installer does not cause problems for Macs on the same network.

  • Can I purchase from the Mac App store for another user as a gift?

Greeting Mac community. Since most of the software for Mac is now purchased online like Pages, Keynote ans Numbers, I was wondering how can I purchase those softwares listed below as a gift for another Mac user for her Ipad?

Send her a gift card: http://store.apple.com/us/personalize/itunes
It can be used for App Store and iTunes Store purchases.
Technically you cannot "give" apps, since technically, you cannot "own" them to begin with.

  • How do you Move an iMovie '08 Project to Another Mac?

What's the best way to move an iMovie '08 project to another Mac on my network? (Both Macs have iMovie '08.) Specifically, is there an easy way to move a project and the event containing the imported clips in one step?
Often, I'll do work on my Intel MacBook then transfer stuff to my Intel iMac for long term storage. In iMovie '08, I tried various imports and exports and nothing worked so well. For example, when you drag and drop a project file from one computer to another the clips don't come with it. You can play the movie but the clips in the media browser are grayed-out.
There ought to be something like the archive routine that packages up everything and lets you put it on another computer for further editing.
    Thanks!

I would like to know the same thing but not for another Mac... just another user. Should be almost the same procedure right?
My iMovie '08 is crashing like crazy! I just want to get the projects into iMovie using a fresh user and hope that fixes it. I can see where copying/moving preferences into the library of the other user (along with duping the projects in the movies folder) might succeed in opening the project in another user. I'm just afraid of moving bad prefs or something.

  • Transfer iphoto photos and videos from one mac to another and retain all the titles and face names

Can I transfer an event of multiple photos that are in my iPhoto application on my macbook air (mid 2012) to my iPhoto application on my iMac ( mid 2011), and have the photos, after the transfer to the iMac, also retain all titles and other identifying data that had been added while on the macbook air?  Using 10.9.5 OSX on both.  Using iPhoto 9.5.1 on both.  I did try this: drag and drop this event to a new folder on the desktop of the macbook air, the using Airdrop, drop copy of this event folder into the iMac.  After the iMac displayed this file as completed received into the iMac, I then opened iPhoto to import this folder into iPhoto.  The photos were imported, but without any identifying info, only the usual tag, such as IMG_4368. (Incidentally, the event of photos on the macbook air includes photos and videos taken on an iPhone 5c, and photos and videos taken on a nikon D3100.  The photos that I transferred using Airdrop did show the camera meta data when Iclicked on the "info" button in iPhoto on the iMac) (Why did I do this in the first place? - While on a trip, I knew I would need to off-load photos and videos form my low capacity iPhone to the portable macbook air in order to free up space on the iPhone, and thought it would be easy enough to transfer to the high capacity iMac later.)  Thanks for any input.  Signed: No longer quite so "new-to-apple", but always trying to learn

Moving photos from old iMac to memory stick
         Open Photos in iPhoto
Select All photos (which happens to be 2193 at the moment in my case)
Drag Photos on to the Memory Stick icon
That is not moving an iPhoto Library. It will not retain Faces, Titles and lots of other metadata. That's moving the Previews (only) from one Library to a thumb drive and then importing them to another Library.
    To move a Library:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
I'll ask the same question that I posed
above - can you do this for Mail and iTunes?
Most certainly not. You need to ask on those forums for the correct way to move those databases.

  • Exporting voice memos from iphone doesn't retain their names

    Hi,
I'm using an iphone 4 on Vista running the latest itunes (newest update, the whole firmware, itunes etc just updated right before I decided to post this).
I'm trying to save voice memo files from my iphone to my computer, but although they save and play back okay, they have been assigned a bunch of numbers (taken from the recording date and time perhaps) instead of keeping the name I gave them on the phone itself. There are far too many of them to drag off one at a time and rename manually.
So how can I save them all in one go whilst retaining the names I gave them on the iphone?
I've previously managed this - when I initially got the phone and started saving memos I once dragged and dropped a load of them from my iphone through itunes and they did retain their original names, but after trying numerous times since I cannot see how, although it must be possible?
    Thanks!

You can transfer voice memos from iPhone to Mac by emailing:
Open the voice memo app and select the recording you want to transfer, then tap on the Share icon in the left corner under the Play button. Now you have the option to send it as a Mail.
Choose Mail then fill in the relevant details and hit send. This is fine for the occasional memo, but if you have several that you want to do at once - or have long recordings whose files sizes are not inbox friendly - then the best solution is to use iPhone Transfer for Mac.

  • How to export photos from 3.5.1 library and import into 3.4 library and retain faces and location info

i foolishly upgraded my imac to mavericks.  then a few days later when i opened my aperture libraries it asked me if i wanted to update them and that i wouldnt be able to read them in an older version of aperture. i foolishly didnt think much of it because i presumed that i would be able to upgrade my aperture application on my macbook pro. so now my mac book pro is virtually obsolete because it can no longer work on my photo files.
I have since decided that i dont like mavericks because my imac continuously crashes, which it never did before i did the upgrade. so i have decided to
revert back using an old time machine back up. the problem is that the back up that i need to use is over 3 months old because ive been away for 3 months
taking photos and i did the upgrade when i got back home. i have now got 3 months of photos on the new 3.5.1 library that have all been processed, faces locations, edits and filed.
so i now need to export them out then re import them into an old library but i cant seem to export the faces info.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Aperture "Preferences > Export" pane has an option "Include Faces Information in exported photos".
    Have you enabled this option?
If enabling this option does not suffice, you could tag the photos in each "Faces" stack with a unique keyword. Keywords will be exported, and this would help to restore the Faces tags quicker, because you could create smart albums based on the keywords.

  • The hard drive on our laptop crashed was able to transfer all for 2 users files etc to another mac. got it fixed 80,000 photos were transferred back but iphoto library for 1 user is empty now. can this iphoto library be recovered?

The hard drive on our laptop crashed and we took it to the apple store and they said we can transfer all files photos and videos over to another mac laptop via a special cable.  We did that and everything for the two users transferred over to the other laptop fine including 80,000 photos.  We got the laptop fixed and my husband transferred everything back to our laptop.  In his profile (he’s the administrator) his iPhoto library has all 7900 of his photos in it as well as all his events and albums that he created prior to it crashing. It’s organized exactly how he had it; however, in my profile, my iPhoto library is empty.  I had over 9,000 photos in it and like 65 events and a couple of albums and it’s completely empty yet when he transferred everything back to our mac, he it showed that 80,000 photos were transferred as well.  Do you know where all those photos could possibly be stored?

Yes you can move the book but not by exporting
The book is just entries in the iPhoto database so the only way to transfer it is ot transfer the entire library it is in - you can make a "mini" library containing only one book to make the transfer easier - see Old Toad's tutorial #9 - http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No._9.html
You also can save a PDF of the book and transfer that but you can not edit pr process it
