Retaining PDF Viewing Preferences

This question is two parts:
1) whenever I open my PDF it shows me page width. I have tried setting preferences to full page but next time I open it is sstill at page width. If I set a page to full page, the page I'm on will temporarily set to full page, but all subsequent ones go to page width. I've changed preferences, properties, view page display but nothing sticks.
2) I'd like to save to either full page or two pages and have anyone I send this to open to however I have set it up (I've made a brochure). Is that possible?
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP.

You set the initial view propertied in the document properties (control-D):

  • Set Reader to NOT be the default pdf viewer

During an msi install how do I set Reader to NOT be the default pdf viewer?

Just to add to this question:
On Mac OS 10.5, using Acrobat 8 Professional, every time Acrobat Pro starts up, I get the question "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.app is not currently configured to be the default application for PDF files.  Would you like to make PDF files open with Adobe Acrobat Professional.app instead of Preview.app?"
My answer is "No," but my preference in this matter is not retained.  I get the question every single time I launch Acrobat Pro.  Where is the button labeled "And don't ask me again!"  ?
I have combed through the Preference dialog and not been able to find any setting that seems related to this.  To be clear, I am not talking about what happens when I double-click a PDF file in the Finder.  I'm talking about what happens when Acrobat 8 Professional is opened directly.
    Thanks.

  • Unable to see Hyperion FR reports in PDF view.

    Hi All,
We are using Hyperion 11.1.1.3 version .User can able to open the report in HTML view but not in PDF View. When users try to open the report in PDF view ,found that PDF view grayed out(disabled).we tried to change the file preference-->preview-->PDF preview, but still getting the same errror.pdf reader is installed in client machine and ghostscripts has installed in server machine.if its related to access issue ,I think there is no separate security access role for HTML View and PDF view.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance

We are facing the similar issue on only one user's machine. We have exactly same kind of machine with same verison of OS and PDF softwares installed, All other users are able to view is correctly. The effect user is able to open and view all pdf document from his machine or from Internet.
This seems to be more Individual Machine specific issue for us.
Any idea who we can go ahead in investigating or solution to fix this.

  • PDF viewer doesn't work in FF 36.0.4 for Mac

Macbook Pro with Yosemite and FF 36.0.4: Built in PDF viewer no longer works. Clicking on PDF links in search engines does not bring up the built in viewer.
Restoring FF 35 restores the PDF viewer.

I understand that the PDF viewer in Firefox is no longer working. I have reset the application settings for the pdf file mimetype in the Firefox Application settings.
*[[Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files]]
If the default continues not to work after resetting this setting, please check out a work around:
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac).
#In the Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac) window, select the ''Applications'' panel.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Pdf viewer/editor queries

I am currently using Okular and acroread. Occasionally pdfedit though I don't like it much - the typewriter-type tool isn't as convenient as Acrobat's and I find Acrobat infuriating to being with.
Okular is pretty nice but has a couple of drawbacks:
    1) it doesn't use CUPS default settings for printers and it doesn't seem to remember chosen settings either. So I need to remember to set A4 paper and duplex for every document I print. It also doesn't remember the last used printer so I need to set that as well. (It keeps going back to the default printer - that seems to be the only CUPS default setting it *does* use!)
This is irritating but not fatal.
    2) Although Okular allows me to edit a PDF form and to save the result and it has a presentation mode, it is impossible to edit a PDF form while in presentation mode. At least, I've been unable to figure out a way. The problem seems to be that it interprets a click as "next slide" even if the click is over a form box. So it just advances rather than allowing me to type in the box. I've tried enabling different tools before switching to presentation mode but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
acroread, on the other hand, allows me to edit the form in presentation mode but won't let me save the result.
Does anybody know of a PDF viewer for Linux which allows both the editing of a form in presentation mode and the saving of the result?
I know there are a lot of different PDF viewers available and I've tried a reasonable number but I can't find any notes addressing this particular feature.
If there are any work-arounds I might be missing, I'd be interested in those as an alternative. I create the pdf forms using pdflatex and beamer. So if, for example, there was a way to enable the form for saving (equivalent to enabling it using Acrobat which I've heard is possible), that might work. I'd rather avoid acroread if I can - apart from anything else it seems very unstable and the AUR package seems neither very well thought through nor adequately maintained - but if it might work, it would be worth a shot.

So I discovered a partial work around but it isn't very satisfactory as it stands.
Today I used acroread in presentation mode to complete a form. Before saving, I printed the document to cups-pdf. This isn't ideal. It basically prints one stage of each slide in the middle of an A4 page (as if on paper) but it does retain the added text.
However, apart from the fact that it comes out a bit small, the quality of graphics is poor. This doesn't always matter much but sometimes it does.
Also, my slides use a shading effect from a lighter to darker colour of blue. This is quite subtle normally. However, when "printed", the top half of each slide is a block of the lightest shade while the bottom is a  block of the darkest shade so it is extremely distracting.
Assuming there is no suitable PDF viewer/editor for Linux which will do what I'd actually like to do, is there a way to improve the output from acroread/cups-pdf? acroread tends to crash if I try to change the print settings but it does respect cups defaults. So maybe I could somehow create a custom printer for this specific task? Assuming it is possible to get better output? I'm not sure whether this is a cups-pdf or acroread issue, though.

  • How to have Safari remember PDF display preference (two pages continuous)?

I am using the built-in PDF viewer in safari and every single time I am a opening a link or document I have to right-click and choose "two pages continuous" (or at least zoom out) to obtain suitable display preferences.
Is there a way to have Safari remember the last-used or preferred display settings for PDF? All recent versions of Safari (including Yosemite) have this problem.
    Thank you so much,
    Christophe

    Thank you most kindly Aandi,
Exactly!! It boggles my mind sometimes ... I'm reading manuals all day long, running a dozen complicated applications (making movies, music for movies, and now 'books'), and my brain did not register the most obvious ... a dozen times I scanned that menu item. Tick, tock.
    You help is most appreciated...

  • Set preview as default PDF viewer

    Hello,
I downloaded the update for Adobe Reader and during installation, it over-rode my choice to use Preview as my default PDF viewer in Safari.  I've searched high and low and tried to change this from both Safari's preferences and Adobe Reader's preferences.  Unfortunately, the section to "click" in Adobe is grayed out and will not allow me to deselect it.  I also tried uninstalling Adobe Reader, but that just caused Safari to not open any PDF documents.
Any thoughts on how to correct this are greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Eden

Right or control click a PDF file you already have on your hard drive then click Get Info.
Click the pop up menu next to: Open with
Choose Preview from the menu or navigate to the Applications folder and select Preview from there.
    Then click: Change All

  • Default PDF viewer in Safari... removing Adobe Reader

I recently installed Adobe Reader because I find it easier to mark-up documents than in Preview, and now it is the default viewer in Safari.  I have tried to change this, but the help I have found on the internet isn't working... there is no internet plug-in (that I can find) to delete, and the preferences in Reader have the "Display PDF in browser using" box grayed-out, so I can't check that either.  Any advice?
Also, if you know of a better program for reading PDFs (my main problem with mark-ups on preview is that it doesn't isolate individual columns, so when highlighting, it highlights all the way across the page, as opposed to individual columns) then please share!
    Thanks!

Here is the link with instructions from Adobe.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
Go to the section called "Disable AdobePDFViewer plug-in" and follow the instructions.
You must have root user privileges to change the Safari plug-ins. To display PDFs using the Safari PDF viewer, you must disable the Adobe PDF Viewer.
    Quit Safari.
Log in as the root user. The root user privileges aren't enabled by default because the root user can change system files. For more information and instructions, see one of the following Apple documents: Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X or OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user.
Choose Go > Go To Folder.
Type /Library in the Go To The Folder field, and click Go.
Create a new folder in the Library folder, and name it Internet Plug-ins Disabled.
Open the Internet Plug-ins folder, and move both the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin into the new Internet Plug-ins Disabled folder.
    Note:
If both AdobePDFViewer plug-ins are still in the Internet Plug-ins folder, drag them now to the trash. You may be asked for your name and password.

  • Set Adobe Professional as Default PDF Viewer

Is there a way to set Adobe Professional as my default pdf viewer instead of my Adobe Reader?  I know there was a setting somewhere that I changed to accomplish this before, but I can't find it again.

No need to uninstall. The setting you're talking about is under Edit -
Preferences - General, if I'm not mistaken.

  • Viewing preferences are not saved / remembered "show pages side by side"

    Hello all,
I just uploaded a PDF document to Acrobat.com. After it loads i need to click on "" show pages side by side" or "click to view a single page at a time" to get viewed fitted on the screen. Is there an option that the PDF always load "show pages side by side". I already added those preferences in the PDF but no result in the Acrobat.com function. But if i open it in Acrobat Pro it will open pages side by side"  and if i open it in Acrobat it will open side by side.
Does anyone got an idea if this is possible?
    Best regards,
    Phillip

    Hello Phillip,
Thank you for posting to the Acrobat.com forum. It's a very good point that you bring up: there is currently no way to save PDF preview preferences in Acrobat.com (unfortunately, the Acrobat.com PDF preview will not respond to settings within the document, as it's just a preview and not the file itself). We don't currently have any explicit plans to include such a feature, but I would strongly encourage you to bring this idea over to our Acrobat.com Ideas site:
    http://ideas.acrobat.com
This site is where people who use Acrobat.com can post their ideas and suggestions to the team and tell us what they'd like to see in the service. This seems like a viable candidate for posting there; I recommend taking a look and posting this thought so that the Acrobat.com team will have the chance to see it and consider it for a future release.
    Thanks again!

  • ECL Viewer 6.0 - PDF View & Print Resolutions

    Hi,
We installed SAPGUI 710 & ECL Viewer 6.0 Patch 4 for all our users.
Settings were made to display PDF through ECL Viewer in DC30.
We observed the following issues while working on PDF
Display quality are not good due to poor resoultion.
Even when we print from ECL Viewer, the quailty is very bad due to the poor resolution.
I have changed the settings to High Definition/Low speed for both Print quality & Preview.
There is some improvement. But, it is not as it is suppose to be.
Are there any other settings to improve the resolution to display & print from ECL Viewer.
    Best Regards,
    Madhu

We have installed the latest patches for the ECL Viewer and are still experiencing issues with resolution.
When I open a drawing and click on properties, I can see the 2D Loader Preferences for PDF's but cannot change them.
Currently the 2D Viewing Preferences are:
    View As: TIFF Group4, Monochrome
    Density: 300
The preferences are grayed out and cannot be changed/saved.  I currently have PDF's configured to use %EAIweb.webviewer2D.1 %SAP-Control%.  I have researched KPRO and SPRO trying to find the config to change the Density from 300 to 1200 to see if this resolves the issue of the drawings opening and printing in low resolution but am unable to find this config.
I may also note I have not set up the MIME types.  I have read that this should be done but again I lack understanding how this would be impacting my issue of resolution using the viewer.  If I configure SAP to open %auto% the PDF's open with the workstation application Adobe and are clear.  BUT this does not support our requirement to complete mark up's within SAP.
Any assistance on this would be appreciated.
    Thank You!
    Ame B.

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening a blank page before my selected PDF viewer opens a pdf email attachment?

When I receive an Outlook PDF attachment and open it, Firefox starts and a blank page opens. After Firefox has opened and the blank page opens, the PDF viewer I am using opens the PDF. I have the options settings set to use Filecenter.exe as the PDF viewer. I have changed this to use adobe and the blank page still opens. I have set Firefox to be the default viewer but Firefox will not open PDFs created by certain CAD programs. I would like for this blank page to stop opening in Firefox. Does anyone have a solution to correct this problem?

hello grichardson, does it work when you go into the ''acrobat reader > edit > preferences > general ''& click on the default application option at the bottom? in there reselect adobe's application and confirm this selection...

  • A checked checkbox is rendered as unchecked in default pdf viewer of firefox. It is checked when the pdf is opened with adobe.

I am using DynamicPDF to render a PDF. There are multiple check boxes which are checked. When the PDF is opened in Firefox, none of the check boxes are checked. However, when I save the PDF and open with Adobe, check boxes are checked. There might be a problem with the Firefox built in PDF viewer as the built in PDF viewer for other browsers work fine.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

  • Adobe PDF Viewer and Safari

    I have recently installed CS3.
Now whenever I try to open a PDF on a webpage I just get a error box saying Adobe PDF viewer cant open the file.
How can I revert Safari to open PDF files in Preview again?

How can I revert Safari to open PDF files in Preview again?
You don't need to do that; Safari is perfectly capable of rendering a PDF by itself. You don't need Preview or Adobe Reader.
    To do that again:
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Launch Adobe Reader, go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box at the top of that window where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:".
    3. Go to /Library/Plug Ins and delete the Adobe PDFviewer Plugin.
    4. Enter the following command in Terminal, press Enter, then quit Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool false
    5. Restart Safari and try dragging a PDF file from your Mac onto an open browser window.

  • No longer retains individual views

For as long as I can remember there have been different views for different categories. Without even realizing it, the view in "Apps" was grid and remained that way while I had my choice of Album List view for my main library and playlists.
I recently had an issue and grabbed as many iTunes plist files as I thought were relevent and trashed them. Basically I started over with my viewer preferences. But now the view I choose for my list is universal. Album List view is what the Apps list shows in. And if I change that particular section to Grid and go back to my music library, that is the new view universally.
How do I retain individual preferences for different category windows? It was ever thus.

I've got it. It's a hidden preference that I had chosen and that I lost when I trashed the preferences. Dougscripts has something that allows a bit more control.
