Retake/Review Quiz

Hi all,
I have a project where I added the button for the user to be allowed to retake the quiz infinite times. It is working ok so far until the quiz slide is followed by a content slide. When the user has re-answered the quiz  and click on "next", it goes to the content slides again. What I want it to do is just go through all the quizes that are marked wrong originally so the user can retake the quiz.
There is also a simulation within the whole course. If the user failed, for some reason, it doesn't allow them go through the simulation again. I dindt create these files. I inherited them and I can't seem to find the connections that make it behave such. Please help.
Thanks.
Todd
OR,
since it appears to be going through the content, can i make the Retake Quiz button go from the beginning of the course instead of just from the first screen? I can't find the place to edit the action for the Retake Quiz button.
Thanks

Captivate doesn't currently support the workflow you are describing here.
The Retake Quiz button that you can enable for the Quiz Results slide will jump the user back to the first scored object or quiz question in the module and set the quiz score back to zero at the same time.  This button will be available on the Quiz Results slide every time the user completes the quiz UNTIL they either pass the quiz or exhaust their allowed number of quiz attempts.  There is currently no provision in the Quiz options to only require the user to redo quiz questions they failed.
If you have set up your own button somewhere that jumps the user back to the beginning of the module or to the beginning of the quiz, this is not going to be able to reset the quiz as well.  The quizzing variables are not controlled by Advanced Actions.
With regard to your simulation, if you do not have the source files for it, then there's little hope of changing the way it works.  Sorry.

  • Retake button disappears after Reviewing Quiz

Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a quiz template that I'm trying to finalize for my department using Cp 5.5 and the retake quiz button disappears if the user reviews the quiz.  Is this a settings issue or is it that a user cannot retake a quiz in Cp after reviewing the correct/incorrect answers?
I have the quiz preferences set as follows:
    Reporting:
    Enable reporting is checked
    Standard (SCORM 2004)
    Report Status:
    Pass/Fail
    Report to LMS as:
    Score
    Choose Report Data:
    Quiz Results Only
    Reporting Level:
Interactions and Score (although this probably should be changed looking at the settings above)
    Settings:
    Quiz
    Name: Quiz Name
    Required: Pass Required
    Objective ID: (default)
    Interaction ID Prefix: (nothing entered)
    Settings:
    Shuffle answers (unchecked)
    Show Progress (checked)
    Allow Backward Movement (checked)
Show Score at the End of the Quiz (checked)
Allow User to Review the Quiz (checked)
    Pass or Fail:
    Pass/Fail Options:
100% or more of total points to pass
    If Passing Grade:
    Continue
    If Failing Grade:
    Infinite Attempts (checked)
    Show Retake Button (checked)

    hi capSean
i have the same requirement (if learner fails and wants to review, learner should be able to review, then retake quiz) and here's my work-around: instruct learner that if he/she wants to review first, THEN retake, he/she must rewind the course to the beginning.  this clears out the answers.  on my (SumTotal) LMS settings, i have to allow infinite attempts.
    best of luck,

  • Retake button gone after Reviewing Quiz

Scenario: You give a user the option to both Review Quiz and Retake Quiz. User chooses Review. When they get to the end of the Review the Retake button is gone. Is there a way to show the Retake button in this situation? Ideally a person could first Review and then Retake.

Unfortunately no.  If you flunk the quiz on an attempt (by not achieving a passing score) you get the option to Retake Quiz, but the button doesn't appear if you pass.
If you click the Review Quiz option, you do not get the option to Retake Quiz once you get back to the Quiz Results slide.
I think the basic reasoning behind this is that for a quiz to be a true assessment of the learner's knowledge, they should not be able to just review the quiz, find out all the answers, and then just retake the quiz immediately to answer all the questions.  That would be like just giving them the answers for free.
So if you review quiz, you need to relaunch the lesson before you can attempt the quiz again.

  • After Reviewing Quiz 1 time the Retake Quz button disappears

Does anyone have a solution to make the Retake Quiz button appear after one quiz review?

If you Review Quiz you do not get the option to Retake Quiz.  Captivate has taken the view (and I agree with it) that it would be cheating if a person could just Review a Quiz, find out all the right answers, and then Retake the Quiz to pass with those answers.
Once you Review Quiz, you need to relaunch the lesson to attempt the quiz again.

  • Backwards Navigation When Reviewing Quiz Questions

I have discovered from some students that they can cheat on my quiz. They take the quiz, review their answers and make note of the correct answers, then either drag the navigation slider backwards or click the Back button to return to the beginning of the quiz. This resets their original answers and allows them to retake the quiz with the answers they took from their notes.
The quiz is set up to allow multiple attempts, but I assume they should be starting over with each attempt. My quiz questions are randomized from a test pool, so hopefully they do not see the same questions again and not in the same order. However, by cheating in this way, they can take the same questions in the same order.
Is there anyway to limit backwards movement when reviewing the quiz?
I have turned off backwards movement while they are taking the quiz, but this setting is turned off when they start reviewing the quiz.
    I am using Captivate 5.

Thanks for the information. Yes I have set the quiz up to allow users to review their answers. Yes I assume they will take notes on the answers, but I have not enabled the Retake Quiz button. Once they get to the results page and choose to review their answers, I assumed (incorrectly) that their answers would be locked and they would not be able to change the answers or results for their attempt.
My instructions tell them to relaunch the training, go through it again, and then take the quiz again. With the questions and answers being randomized, I was hoping that their notes (question 1 answer is B - question 2 answer is C - etc.) would not be very helpful to them and they would put effort into taking notes from the training to help them on the test instead.
    You said the following:
"If a user clicks the Review Quiz button after any attempt, they will be unable to perform a new attempt on that quiz until they relaunch the lesson again.  Also, if the user jumps outside the Quiz Scope by navigating back to any slide before the first scored object or quiz question, they will be unable to reattempt the quiz until relaunch."
I have tested this out, launching the training from the LMS, and it is not correct. I can go through the quiz, review my results, drag the slider or click the back button to the beginning of the quiz, and take the quiz again.
I have disabled backwards movement during the quiz, but once you start reviewing a quiz, backwards movement is once again enabled via the slider or back button.
I can hide the playbar and navigation controls, but when you get to the review, the navigation controls remain hidden and you cannot advance through the questions to see the results. I thought of adding a separate Forward button on the quiz question slides to allow the user to go forward as they review the slides, but you cannot add buttons or clickboxes to question slides.
I could certainly turn off the review functionality, but I think it is valuable information to the student. I need to allow them to retake the quiz, as my boss has set a very high bar (100% passing score) on the quiz.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, after typing up this response, I started doing some playing around, and I figured out a fix. I turn off the navigation controls before the quiz and enable the Skip button on each question slide. With the navigation off, the user can answer the questions and click Submit. Then when reviewing the answers, they can navigate forward by clicking Skip. They can no longer navigate backwards through the quiz and training material.

  • Captivate 3 - Continue and Review Quiz Button Not Working

I have just published a SCORM course in Captivate. It works perfectly fine once I've uploaded it into the LMS except one small part. I've set up the quiz so each learner is required to pass the quiz in order to complete the module. At the end of the quiz, the results page appears with two buttons (Continue and Review Quiz). Those buttons don't work.
I set up the quiz so that learners have 2 attempts to successfully complete it. If they're unsuccesful, the continue button should direct them to the beginning of the quiz so they could retake it. If they have successfully complete, the continue button should take them to the next slide. That's not working. For some reason, the continue button only works if the learner has failed the quiz. The Review Quiz button also doesn't work. I did select the option allowing them to do so. Can someone please help?

    Hi there
Please send me a private E-Mail message to rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com and advise of the exact file name of the file you are linking to.
I'll send you back a file that you can use to test and see if the link works.

  • When you review quiz, can the answers be personalized?

I have created a quiz containing 14 multiple choice quiz:
I would like to personalize answers (i.e tell them why it is the right answer) to each question when the review the quiz, rather than show them what is right.
I would also like the continue and review quiz button to appear only after they score a certain %
Can these two things be done?
    Kind Regards
    Simi Ninan

In Captivate 7 and later versions there is a system variable you can use to detect when the user is in Quiz Review mode.  You can use this variable to govern Conditional Advanced Actions on quiz slides that will Show or Hide captions that give learners the information you want, only during Quiz Review.
You can hide the Quiz Review button underneath the Retake Quiz button on the Quiz Results slide.  The Retake Quiz button disappears as soon as the user has scored a passing score.  You cannot hide the Continue button, but you can make disabled unless the user scores a passing score by setting the Quiz > Settings > Required drop down option accordingly.

  • Review quiz navigation

My Review Quiz button on the Results page of the quiz is taking me back to the beginning of the module instead of the beginning of the quiz. What can I do to fix that? I do not have any advanced action in the module and I do not see any navigation options in the Review Quiz button. I am using Captivate 6 on Windows 7.
I have noticed that the Review Quiz button works properly when I preview from the beginning of the quiz. However, it does not work properly when I preview the Project or preview in Web Browser.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Rod,
I checked the Advanced Interactions, but did not find any interactive object on slide 10 where I’m being thrown back to.
It did seem kind of weird that the Results page does not show any interactive objects when there is a Continue button and Retake button on the slide.
Checked Actions under Quiz Pass or Fail. Not seeing anything unusual.
I did notice that I am taken back to the early part of the module with either the Review Quiz button or the Retake Quiz button. (I just tried the Retake button in the example above) Wondering if my Results slide might be corrupted.

  • How can I allow the user to retake a quiz from the middle of it in Captivate 7?

    Hello Captivaters,
I would like to force the learner to pass a quiz before he can continue on with the training.  If he doesn't pass the quiz, he will need to go back and take it again. The "retake" button allows him to do this, but I will actually like to have 4-5 of these "quiz checkpoints" in the eLearning -- each separated with presentation material --  so that the user proves he understands the material before advancing.
Therefore I would like to create my own "retake" button at the end of every "quiz checkpoint" that takes the learner back to the first question of that checkpoint (not to the first question in the training).  So far, I have been able to create a button that appears after he gets a certain amount correct to allow him to continue, and I want to create a button that appears that takes him back to the first question in the checkpoint if does not get the required amount correct and retake those questions.  The first part is easy, but I also need to add the function or reassign some variable to allow the user to retake the quiz. I hope I am making sense.. Any help would be much appreciated!

    It's great!  Thanks again.
Here is the issue now.  I guess it's not a huge problem, it's just if I can't find a better way, what I need to do will take a lot of time.
Like I mentioned before, I created this "results" slide that on enter either shows a "congrats" button or a "retry" button, depending on whether or not the user passed the quiz.  I have copied this slide and pasted it behind all of the other sub-quizzes in the training, but when I do that, of course the link between the buttons and the conditional advanced action break.
As you know, when you duplicate a slide, all of the names of the objects on that slide are "refreshed" and are replaced with new generic names because you are in fact creating new objects as well.  This means that I need to rename all of the objects on that slide (even though its a duplicate) and then replace all of the "old names" in the advanced action with these new object names..   Is there a faster way to do that?
    Thanks again!!

  • Review Quiz button does not navigate to the first quiz question..

    Hi,
so I have created an interactive software simulation guide for users of my organisation. At the end of this guide there is a quiz (multiple choice, true or false questions) with 15 slides. At the end of the quiz the results screen is displayed with the "Review Quiz" button. Clicking this navigates the user to slide 72/245 rather than the beginning of the quiz, the first question.
    How can this be fixed?!
    Many thanks,
    Achello

You have an interactive object somewhere on that slide that is scored to be added to the quiz.
Open the Advanced Interaction dialog (F9) and look for the object there.  Remove the score.

  • Getting stuck in the Review Quiz option

    Hello,
When from the Quiz results slide, a user clicks the Review Quiz button, it lets the user click through the slides and review, but none of the buttons take the user back to the quiz results slide when they are done reveiwing the quiz. I've seen it work at times and then not work in a later version of the file. Is there a setting that controls this? I don't want the user to have to go back to the outline slide and find the quiz results slide from there.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Next button in Review Quiz not working in HTML5.

    Hey folks,
We've created a course in CP7 and when I take the course on a Computer (SWF) everthing works fine, but when I take the course on an iPad (HTML5), and go into the Review Quiz section, the Next button is not working. When I click it you can see the click animation of the button being pressed, but it doesn't progress to the next question. I'm forced to close the window as there is no other navigational options, but when I do that and re-open the course, it takes me back to the beginning of the course like I haven't even attempted the course.
I've searched for a previous instance of this and I couldn't find anything, so I was hoping someone has either run into this issue before or might have a suggestion on how to resolve it. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Need more information about this issue :
    1) Does it happen on a specific project or with a sample project as well (2 or 3 question slides) ?
    2) Which iPAD are you using and what is the iOS version ?
Make sure you have CP 7.0.1 update installed (Launch CP7 -> Click on Help -> About Captivate)

  • Is it possible to copy and paste a review quiz from on book into another?

I have a number of quizzes in an ibook which I have been using as a sand box.
There are 10 questions in each quiz.
I have copied and pasted a lot of the material from the trial ibook into a new book.
I would like to copy and paste the quizzes from the first book into the new new ibook also.
    Is this possible?

Its possible to make a duplicate of the quiz within an ibook, but I have tried CUT and PASTE but it does not work even though they are both colored black in the menu.
As CUT and PASTE are colored black, I thought that it might somehow be possible to copy them from one ibook to another.
I can copy the complete section containing the quiz from the first ibook to the second ibook. If I could then copy the review quiz to the appropriate section in the second ibook, and then delete the copied section, it might work.
However, it still will not copy and paste the review quiz, only make a duplicate next to the original quiz.

  • Review Quiz Goes to the Beginnig of the Course vs. the Quiz

I have a course that contains several content slides and 10 question slides.  When the user completes the quiz and clicks the Review Quiz button, Captivate takes them back to the very first slide in the course vs. to the first question slide. How can I get Captivate to go to the first question slide?  I am using Captivate 7.

Thank you!  That was exactly what was wrong.  I had a button on the first slide and Report Answers was selected in Properties.  I copied this button to other slides so the Review Quiz functionality started at the begining and stopped on all slides where Report Answers appeared.  I used the Advanced Interaction window to identify all the Yes responses for Report Answers and made sure I deselected the check box on all content slides.  Once saved, the course worked perfectly!  The Review Quiz went to the first question slide.  Thanks again.

  • Review Quiz - Matching Question

Hi fellow Captivate-rs! I'm urgently hoping for some help...
I've got a four-question "Knowledge Check" (quiz), complete with a "Results" slide, at the end of my project. When clicking the "Review Quiz" button, the correct answers display for the user to compare against theirs as well (as should occurr, of course). The only exception is with "Matching" questions. When reviewing them, I see yellow boxes where the correct answer could/should be viewed. However, the correct answer(s) do not appear. Does anyone know of a solution? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Captivate doesn't allow much flexibility in these pre-programmed quiz question slides.
If you're not trying to output to HTML5 you could rebuild the question as a drag and drop interaction using the Infosemantics Drag and Drop Lite Question Widget.
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/drag-and-drop/question
This widget has a special trick for showing the correct answer when in Review Mode.  Your learner can mouse over an object you specify in the widget settings that will then cause the drag objects on screen to animate and move to their correct positions.  See the instructions on this page under Show Correct Answer:
