Retention Periods
Hi,
I've read this from the Microsoft support pages:
Retention Range for File Data
For file data, using the Create New Protection Group Wizard, you can select a retention range between 1 and 64 days for short-term disk-based
protection, up to 12 weeks for short-term tape-based protection, and up to 99 years for long-term tape-based protection. DPM can store a maximum of 64 recovery points for each file member of a protection group.
Is this true - you can't hold data on disk for more that 64 days?
Thanks
Hi,
The wording is a little deceiving, the limit is with VSS which has a 64 VSS shadow copy limit for volume / file protection.
If you take a daily recovery point, then 64 consecutive calendar days will be the limit.
If configure recovery points only Monday-Friday, then you still get 64 recovery points, but for a longer period of time since none were created on Sat and Sun.

Background Job Processing Spool Retention period
Hi ,
In my program i am calling another ABAP program and sumitting the same as a background job(using Job_Submit,Close etc.)
In this case i can view the Spool generated by the called program(using sm37).
But this spool exists for a very less period in the system. Is it possible to specify a retention period,as 90 days in my case.?
Pls Help !!!
Answers will be rewarded.
Regards,
Rohanhi Roahn,
You must set print parameters before the printing process starts.
When printing lists after creating them, the system uses the print format specified in the print parameters to split the completed list and fit it onto the print pages, truncating it if necessary.
When printing lists while creating them, the system uses the print format to actually format the list in the program.
Print parameters are set either interactively by the user or from within the program.
For each print process, the spool system needs a complete and consistent set of print parameters. In ABAP, the structure PRI_PARAMS (ABAP Dictionary) represent a set of print parameters.
When passing the print parameters interactively, the system displays a dialog box after starting the report, on which the user has to enter the most important print parameters.
It's shown below which input field of the Print List Output dialog window conform to which PRI_PARAMS component.
Input field----
Retention period
Component-------PEXPI
Meaning----
Number of days for which the system holds the spool request before deleting it. (Default value: 8). -
E-Recruiting 6.0: Expiry & Retention Periods
Hi Experts,
Expiration Period
Definition: It indicates the maximum period of time an application & the person-related data of the associated candidate may be saved in the system once the recruitment process has been completed. The process is completed when the application status is set to 'rejected' or 'withdrawn'.
Question (1):
If I set the period to be 12 months, after 12 months, what happens to my applications? Will the system automatically deletes it? How does the system actually works based on the config for this parameter?
Retention Period
Definition: It indicates how long a requisition and all related information (applications, applicant data, activities, audit trails etc) must be retained before they can be deleted.
Question (2):
I have set it to 12 months. But when i tried deleting a requisition which I have created, the system still allows it. Can anyone share with me how does the system reacts based on my settings?
Thanks in advance.
WilliamWell the functionality is not consistent.
If you maintain periods of time for retention on a requisition, the workflow calculates a retention limit date for an application when it is rejected. It will never be updated automatically.
A check on retention dates when deleting an requisition is not implemented. I checked the code but did not find anything.
The only check on this date, which will be than in the candidacy information (hrp5133), is in report:

Due times not aligned with Protection Group retention periods
We have a customer running DPM 2012 and using disk and tape backup.
There are 2 protection groups which have retention periods of 1 year and one with 5 year.
In the tape report the following tapes are mentioned:
4 tapes with a due date 1/2/2020
4 tapes with a due date 1/2/2016
And strange : 1 tape with a due date of 2/1/2018. This tape contains the protection for 2 servers using colocation for the so called Low and High group (1 year and 5 year which I mentioned previously).
We can't explain the fact that the due date is on 2018 since we don't have a protection group with that retention parameter.
Can anybody clarify with an example or assist?Plase put in this tape, make a rightclick and Show the "Tape Content"
you should see which Datasource has which Retention range, maybe this helps.

That was my problem, that the account details of the vendor are know by a person which does not work there anymore.
Anyway, I manage to do it by integrating Weblogic with IIS and install the Siteminder Agent for IIS instead of Siteminder Agent for Weblogic. -

In SPRO - IMG - MM - Purchasing - Define tolerance limit for archiving. In this maintain the residence time 1 & residence time 2 for the Purchasinh doc type & also with item category also.
Define Tolerance Limit for Archiving
In this step, you specify how long external purchasing documents are retained unchanged in the database before being archived.
You can define two time periods, via which you control the archiving of the documents:
Residence time 1 for items without a deletion indicator
Before the deletion indicator is set for a document item, the system checks when the relevant item was last changed. In the process, a change in the PO quantity is taken into account in just the same way as a goods receipt, for example.
The date of the last change is compared with the current date. If no change has been made within the residence time 1 entered , the deletion indicator is set for the item.
Residence time 2 for items with a deletion indicator
For document items for which the deletion indicator was set manually or during the archiving run, the system checks how many days have elapsed since the deletion indicator was set.
The whole document is only archived if:
The deletion indicator has been set for all items of the document
None of the items have been changed during the residence time 2 entered - i.e. the last change is the setting of the deletion
The archived documents are then deleted from the database. -

SARA Archiving Idocs and the retention period , RSEXARCB
Hi Experts
I am having few questions on the Idoc Archivng -
1. I want to know the safe retention period for Idocs , I am planning to do archivng of Idocs which are 60 days older or more. How to determine the exact period for Idocs that we can keep in the database tables and also in the file system. What will the exact time in tables and also in Filesystem before we copy to a tape.
2. About program RSEXARCB , I want to schedule automatic background job for only Idocs which are in status 3 and 53 using this program every week. In this program I dont see any variable or any selection field where I can select this options. Is there any other program in SAP where we can select this options?
FYI - We are on ECC 5.0
Thanks
ChandraHi,
Thanks for your reply please.
But while making changes to the retention period i am getting following message:
Diagnosis
A retention period has been entered for a profile value category, that
is shorter than that of the billing document headers.
This is an invalid entry, because you cannot archive profile values
before billing document headers.
System Response
The system does not permit you to save the retention period combination.
Procedure
Correct the retention period for the profile value category or the
corresponding billing document header category accordingly.
Please guide.

Archiving and different Retention period by specific interface
We want to specify different Retention period for different interfaces (audit reasons)... and based on search in SDN, it does not seem like this is supported by SAP...
Do any of you know if SAP intends to support this in future? Any ideas for overcoming this gap? or is this limitation deliberate (and has been kept in place for a reason)?Hi Krish,
Actually I don't think we have this option of setting the retention period for specific interfaces,
but for the global interfaces in the system.
If you want to increase the time for Audit Log messages you need to change parameter 'messaging.auditLog.memoryCache' to false in order to persist the audit logs in PI 7.1 system. Take a look at note #1314974 for more details.
And notice that after changing the parameter to false, audit logs are persisted till the corresponding messages are deleted. The default retention period of messages on AE is 30 days, keep in mind that it could have a little impact on the data volume.
To increase the retention time in AFW, go to:
Services -> XPI Adapter: XI:
"xiadapter.outbound.persistDuration.default"
"xiadapter.inbound.persistDuration.default"
For the Integration Engine, it's under SXMB_ADM -> Integration Engine Configuration and Configuration.

SophiaHi and Welcome to the Forums!
Check this:
Homescreen > Messages > > Options > General Options
Scroll to the bottom of that list and you should have a setting for configuring how long messages remain on your BB.
Good luck!

Archiving data retention period (best practice)
Hi,
Can anybody provide the standard FI-CO data retention period I mean for how long data from the following table has to be retained:
BKPF, BSAD, BSAK, BSAS, BSIS
Best business practice.
Thanks in advance
JosephHi,
I would not recommend to change this setting. One major problem you get will be that the archiving function will delete data from database (which has been transferred to the archive). So far so good, that´s one of the archiving features
But it sometimes happens that you have to open an already closed fiscal year again. And if you open this last closed fiscal year again, the realtime transactions could fail now if data (transactions, etc.) is missing which exists only in the archive at that point of time.
By the way, you can have a look at SAP note 389920, in there the archiving functionality is documented for FI-AA application.

SXMB_MONI retention period
Hi all,
I configured the retention period for deleting and archiving XML messages in SXMB_ADM.
My retention period for deleting messages is 30 days and the job is scheduled on a weekly basis.
When I go to the message monitoring in the RWB, I can see that all messages older then 30 days are deleted.
However when I go to SXMB_MONI I'm still able to see all messages.
In the persistance layer analysis, I see that the table keeps growing and currently is over 90%.
Does anyone know how I can remove the message out of the SXMB_MONI??
Kind regards,
StevenDear Steven,
you might have a look at OSS note 872388 'Troubleshooting Archiving and Deletion in XI 3.0' that provides a comprehensive collection of common issues regarding archiving and deletion. Please walk through section 5 'Troubleshooting Archiving / Deletion of XML messages and history entries in the Integration Server'.
You stated that 5-8% of all messages are deleted through running the deletion job. This indicates that you are not using table switch procedure, ruling out 5-i).
However, 7/30=23% of the messages should be deleted (provided that the message volume is constant over time). Often step 5-k)-2 (adapter status update missing) turns out to be the reason for not deleting XI messages. For the sake of completeness I recommend to have a look at entire section 5.

Re: Retention Period, Residence time and Archiving Cycle
Hello Experts,
1.Could someone help me where we maintain the retention period, residence time and archiving cycle for an archiving object.
2.How to schedule a background job for archiving???
Regards
RRHello RR,
Residence period: Most of the archiving object residence period is maintained in customizing > Application specific customizing in Archive development tool access through transaction SARA.
Note: There are some archiving object for which you can't maintain residence period however these archiving object residence period should be manually controlled in write variant.
Retention Period: This retention period is mentioned in archive server.
Total retention time = Online Residence period + Offline Retention period.
2. You can schedule archiving jobs by SARA transaction. This transaction will help in scheduling the job background. Or By using Background user id, one can schedule the archiving jobs by background.
-Thanks,
