Retina display in imac

Hai
I am in the process of moving from Mac mini to imac. Is a retina display model on the horizon in imac?

  • MacBook Pro with Retina display to imac

    Hi
Can i connect a MacBook Pro with Retina display to a mid 2010 imac 27"    ?    in ANY way?     to use as a second screen... HDMI to mini display.. ive a feeling  i know the answer but its worth asking.....
    thanks!

Ha, "their" my teenagers would certainly point that out.
"true to say the imac isn't the most upgrade friendly"
Well it's just taking that front glass and the LCD off. The earlier ones had the hidden latches and the special tool to release it. "Took quite a technique to remove it. I just did one where someone had just broken the latch and glued it back.
"i just replaced the dvd drive, i could never go back to mechanical."
That's for sure. As soon as I put my first SSD in this early 2011 MBP 13" I realized that there was a reason why all the Airs could get buy with just 2 or 4 GB RAM.
    "currently budget isn't an issue"
    That must be nice.
"this is testament to apple - there is no way a pc would have held up this well,"
Yes, I'm still using a 20" and 2 22" ADC Apple Cinema Monitors on my workbench w/ a 2002 Power Mac MDD G4, a 2011 Mini i5 and a 2006 iMac. There's a working SE and IIfx in the closet.
    " initial pain of purchase"
Yup that IIfx originally cost $9,900 in 1990. I got it for half price!
There's a 27" iMac for sale here in the NW. I'm looking at it to replace the Core 2 Duo.
"imac is still a great machine with a georgeous screen"
Yup until last year I administered 88 PCs at a charter school. I found looking at those displays and jittery windows all day long really irritating. Of course I'd try to "2 finger scroll" and use "Gestures" to move to a new desktop until I remembered "Oh right, PC, crap."
Good luck and thanks for the checkmark.

  • New retina display macbook pro or iMac?

Hi so I'm trying to buy a new computer and I'm stuck.
I was going to buy a 17" MacBook Pro, but since Apple stopped making those, I'm not sure what I should get. Since I already own a 11" Air and have something portable, I was looking for a more stable desk-top like product that had a large screen. I'm a college student but a 15" Pro seems to be a little to small.. But then to add to my dilemas, Apple added the retina display to the new Pros, so I'm not sure if which is better.
I would be upgrading the 21.5" iMac to a 16GB memory. Which one would be better? I don't exactly edit movies or anything, I just need it for everyday use. Thanks.

The iMacs are over a year old. The last refresh was back in May 2011. I'd wait it out if at all possible or jump on the MacBook Pro with retina display bandwagon.

  • Both my MacBook Pro Retina Display and new iMac will only format an SD as FAT16 using Disk Utility.  How do I format in FAT32

I have a new iMac and MacBook Pro with Retina Display running 10.8.2
When I use Disk Utility on a San Disk 2GB SD card I can only format as FAT16.  How can I format the card as FAT32?

Just posted a problem I'm having connecting my Jaybird Freedom and iPhone5 (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4716045). The Jaybirds connected fine with an iPhone4s and another (forgotten) device so I don't think the problem lies with the Jaybird. I'd be interested if you hear differently.

I bought my first  iMac 27" i5 in November 2011 last year.
Do you think there would be a update that will Features a Retina Display, Siri etc ??
So my iMac will be the same as the new one that will be released this year,
Or will I have to buy a new iMac to get all these new updates ??
It would be a shame if I did because my iMac is only 6months old if that ..
Kind regards Simon Trott Apple user and proud of it

We're not allowed to speculate on future or rumoured Apple products, but we all know there'll always be newer tech coming along.
The iMac you have is an excellent machine, be happy with it and get a good few years use out of it. By the time your machine is slowing down, whatever comes next will have been updated numerous times.
    I had the 2011 i5 27" delivered about 3 weeks ago. It's a cracking machine

  • When support After Effects Ray-traced 3D the GPU of the new iMac with retina display (GPU: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB)?

I would like to know whether After Effects CC Ray-traced 3D support the GPU of the new iMac with retina display.

It never will. This is nVidia-exclusive technology and the whole things is deprecated, anyway. You better learn to use Cineware, buy a 3D program like Pro Animator or Element 3D or learn a proper 3D program.

  • IMac Retina Display with CS6

I just got an iMac Retina display monitor and my Creative Suite 6 applications all have blurry/pixelated text. I have tried to install the patch updates but still not luck fixing this issue. Is this a mac issue or adobe creative suite 6 issue?

It's a combination of both and there is no fix. It doesn't even work 100% right in current versions of CC.

  • I have a sugestion to Apple,Why they not build Imac's also with Retina Display.

Dear Apple friends,i'm not Steve Jobs but i have a big sugestion to Apple.
Why they do not build also I'macs with Retina display?.
Is i't to expensive for Apple to do that?,or is i't at the moment impossible with the Technics in the Apple factory?.
Mabye in the Future Apple can build Imac's with retina display and the newest chipset's build in.
Dear greetings from a Dutch Apple user with pleasure.

Maybe Apple has got that idea. However, note how difficult the design and how expensive an iMac with Retina display could be. Just imagine a 27-inch display with a 5120x2880 resolution ;-).
Anyway, you can send the idea to Apple > http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • IMac's retina display distorts iTunes screen

I have an iMac retina display AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB ....
My problem is when using iTunes, the display rows of tunes overlap each other so I can really see all my tunes. I am using Yosemite 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.10.5.0
I'd show a screen shot but for some reason the screen shot shows a correct screen. Very frustrating. Another 'correction is to bring up Safari over the iTunes screen. When Safari is diminished, the iTunes screen is corrected.
Any insight into this annoying but peculiar problem?

...I knew the 15" would be smaller but I thought I'd be able to take advantage of Retina display.  Retina seems to require some huge resolution.  I had to change the display to "Scaled" and then "More Space", which is 1920x1200 (same as my 17").  Otherwise, the display isn't usable.
Probably I misunderstood Retina because at the huge resolution it requires, there's no way I can use this MBP.  Am I missing something?...
I guess I don't understand why the display isn't usable or what you mean by "the huge resolution it requires." Since you have an enormous number of pixels available to use as you choose, it's either more screen real-estate with everything smaller or less with everything larger. Even at its native native resolution of 2880 pixels (which you can access with Eye-Friendly in the App Store), what's on the screen is tack sharp, just very very small and requires exceptional eyesight.
With that range of options, what am I missing?

  • Is the Macbook Pro Retina display better than the LED display on the new iMac that is coming out?

I am thinking of either buying the Macbook Pro retina display (15") or waiting for the iMac 27" display. I am mainly focusing on the display, so what is better?

Is the MacBook Pro Retina display resolution of 2880-by-1800 a strain on the eyes as I understand the higher the resolution the more strainful the screen can be to the eyes?
Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • New iMac with Retina display has attracted a group of ants. Why?

New iMac with Retina Display has attracted a group of ants to nest in it, while they ignore my old Macbook Pro. What is in the new laptop that attracts the ants? The Apple Support set me up with an appointment at an Apple Store and the Apple Store says it is Apple policy not to touch it with the Ants in it. Wasted 2.5 hours in travel time and in the store with no solution.

Its the electrical charges that attract them, they sense them as other critters to eat / talk with
the swarm of tiny DC power fields inside a computer, and the charges across the screen attract insects that have EM sensors on their exoskeletons. Its a come hither spotlight for insect critters.

If you want them out, which of course you do.......make a sugar trap for them.... a trail from the computer to a little pile.  One screams the treasure to the others, .....they all come running, then you brush them away, or some other insidious method.

  • LONG Time Machine restore to new retina display iMac

Received new iMac 4 Ghz i7, 3 Tb drive retina display, and elected to transfer my information from Time Machine that is on a 1 Tb USB drive.  Before doing this, I used this drive to restore a repaired older machine, and the transfer of all materials (about 900 Gb) took about 11 hours.  On the new machine, it has been running for 12 hours, and shows nearly 70 hours remaining (it is stuck on the Transfer the Applications phase).  I watched it for a while and the amount of time is incrementing, not decreasing.  Seems like an unreasonable time interval.  Anyone have similar experience or any advice?
    Thanks in advance.
    - Mike

Sorry - I have had a dual TM backup system for several years.  My machine hard disk DIED and was replaced.  I also purchased the new computer at the same time.  There was no method of "test" except that I have previously restored onto the old machine.  The two backup TM disks are identical and two weeks ago I verified that I could "read" each of them (anticipating a clean install of Yosemite).
I used TM #1 and restored the old machine within 11 hours.  At same time, I hooked up TM #2 to new machine, and it is still cranking along.
Both Yosemite installs were done by Apple;  I have other machines that I have clean installed Yosemite using a bootable USB stick so that option is alive.  I anticipate that you are right and that TM #2 has somehow failed in the middle of the restore.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Trying to download Elements on my new Retina display IMAC but I get an error box saying the certificate doesn't match.

I trying to download the trial for Elements but a dialogue box popped up and said the certificates don't match. What does that mean? Does it suggest that if I bought Elements that I couldn't download it? I just got a new Retina display iMAC and I'm trying to transfer the software but my older version of Elements 10 wouldn't install. So I thought maybe time to upgrade to 13 but I can't even download the trial. Any suggestions?

It means OS X doesn't like the security certificate for the page. You can try downloading from here as an alternative:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
This is an adobe-approved site, but you must follow the Very Important Instructions exactly, even when they don't seem to make sense.

  • IMac Retina display - Cinebench score problem

    hi,
I have the newest 27" iMac with Retina display. It is a CTO config:
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0 Ghz processor
    24 Gb 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM
    AMD Radeon R9 M295X - 4GB
    SSD only
I was courious about the Cinebench score of my geer. And the CPU score is 718, decent, but I always get 59-60fps for the OpenGL test. And according to most test sites it should be over 100, better 115 with this config. I'm new to benchmarking. I don't know is there any other setting that sould be dealt with before testing. I have done the test using:
    OSX 10.10.2
    OpenGL version 4.1 ATI-1.30.5
    CINEBENCH Version 15.037 RC83328demo 64 BIT.
Is there a problem with the graphics card? Or the software?
    thanks

Hello I have the same machine Retina 5k and i just downloaded and ran the same software and here is what my machine comes up as:
    OpenGL 92.01 fps
