Retina display may want replacing, is my expensive software lost?

I found a dead pixel on my retina display. Seeing how much I paid for the display itself I want a replacement. Will software like Logic Studio be installable on my new machine? (It was already installed on my current and previous computer). I am hoping the code I used is now connected to my apple account. cheers

Make a back up, ask the Aplle tech to do a data migration to your new machine.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

  • FCP 7.0.3 and MacBook Pro Retina Display

I am a videographer, I shoot on DSLR and edit with FCP 7.0.3.
I have recently got a brand new Pro Retina Display Macbook Pro.
I installed my software, including - FCP7 via migration - I had to do this as there is no DVD drive in the macbook pro - it was installed - from my old Mac Book (black 2008)
FCP 7.0.3 is not opening? It gets to the loading page and goes as far as the top tool bar showing up - but will not open so that I can actually use it.
I got this mac to edit on the fly and take my jobs away with me and do not want to use Final Cut X - I am used to and very happy with FCP 7 interface and operating and don't have the time to learn to use other editing software - does anyone know how I can get the my FCP 7 software working on my brand new machine?

The main error in this position is thinking ANY sized SSD can be "storage"
Any Macbook SSD should be idealized as a working platform computer system, containing all your applications, documents, and weekly-use necessary files; and all media files such as ‘big-data’ (music/PDF collections/video/pictures), unless directly needed in the near future, should be kept off the computer and on external storage USB or likewise bare hard drives.
You cant do what you want without removing the internal SSD
Officially, it is not possible for an end user to upgrade the storage in any Retina Display MacBook Pro model after purchase

  • I want to use an IPad (w/retina display-newest) in my church hooked up to a projector

I want to use an IPad (w/retina display-newest) in my church hooked up to a projector and shown on a screen.  I'd like to do it wirelessly as the projector will be installed in the ceiling.  I am not sure exactly what I would need to get this set up. I do not have wifi at church or cellular but would be getting the iPad (not yet purchased) with wifi only.  If I use Apple TV to hook up the projector to, would it need wifi to work if I will only be using the ipad for documents, worksheets (much like what a school/professor would use) or other things that an app could do (draw a line, etc.)

Epson projectors have such a feature, so if you're going to buy a new projector, you might start with their units. The app is described here:
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Landing/ProjectorApp.do
and there's a projector compability list linked from the very bottom of the page. There may be other projector manufacturers with similar apps, but I don't know for sure. All will probably also require a local WiFi network set up, though said network should not need Internet access if that's an issue for you.

  • I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine.  I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option?  I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt!  Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours???  I've been hearing these horror stories...

  • Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?

Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?  I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive.  I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future.  So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options?  If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices.  But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop).  I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined!  (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices.  I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question?  Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future?  Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops!  And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?
    Thanks everybody!

The modules are proprietary. They are installed in a slot secured with a tiny screw.
macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop.

I have a new macbook pro and want to purchase adobe photoshop.   How can I do that with apple retina display compatibility?  Does anyone use photoshop on your mac?

Adobe is moving from the purchase of a license for their software to the renting of it. I'm old school so I'd prefer a perpetual license. But you already have a subscription to Illustrator so I guess it'd be advisable to look into whether expanding the subscription to include other software will save you some money. Also I remember something about Adobe adding features to its Cloud version which aren't also added to the licensed version and a different way of handling updates and upgrades. Indeed, Adobe states that CS 6 has reached the end of the road. So if you're going to stay with Adobe, you may very well be stuck.
I'd suggest spending some time in the Adobe Communities. You'll likely find people complaining about choices they've made that you'll have to make too. Let them be the beta testers.

  • MacBookPro is a desktop replacement. How come no superdrive in the retina display version? ?

I've been waiting for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display to arrive. Now I have NO SUPERDIVE? MacBook Pro is supposed to be a  a Desktop Replacement, the closest thing to a desktop you can get in a laptop, no? So, how can you justify taking out the superdrive to save a lousy 1.1 lbs.? Apple already has ultrathin and cloud computer machines. We musicians and travelers need something that plays and burns DVD/CD and I was hoping, with the new generation and the hi-res screen, BluRay. Instead, I get a crippled machine, or a machine that i have to use with a 10", 1 lb dongle (the superdrive) that won't fit on an airplane table. Will somebody please explain the design philosophy? I'm going to have to mutilate my machine by super gluing the outboard drive to the top half of my machine to get it to fit on an airplane table!! This is absolutely the dumbest decision Apple management has made in long time!!

I agree, it's much thinner, and that's nice. My point though, is that they already have thinner versions without optical capability. If the MBP is supposed to be a 'desktop replacement,' it ought to choose completeness over stylishness. Those who want thinner and lighter and cloud based and stylish can get it in other models. But hey,, no harm in a thin MBP without an optical drive for those who want it, just put a Retina display on a superdrive version for those who want that too. Different strokes. They still have the older chassis in producion. Can't a Retina display be adapted to that? That's really all I'm asking.

  • Replacing standard non-Retina display with Retina display

Hi, does anyone know if it's theoretically possible to take a standard 13/15inch MacBook Pro's display and replace it with a 13/15 inch Retina display assembly?

It may possible to physically "replace" it (stick the new one in and try to reattach the wires) but the real question is whether it would actually work afterward. Especially on older MacBooks, the GPU muscle might not be there to drive all the additional pixels, and drive them fast enough.
