Retina mac 10.7.4 battery icon

Hi, the battery icon on my retina mac has no time display options... just % and batery icon.... i want the time back.... anyone know how to fix this?

Right for some reason that option, the Time Left option, is missing from the Retina model MBPs. It was reported here a few weeks ago.
That is just the way it is on that model.

  • 1 day old Retina MBP. Battery Icon disappeared,Backlight Keyboard is INOP, and CPU fan is on full all the time. Help!?

Just got my second replacement Retina Mac Book Pro last night for another unrelated issue.  I used time machine back up to restore files. I used it last night to DJ for work. NO problems everything working as normal. This afternoon when I connected the new  computer to my studio external monitor I noticed something strange, when I plugged in the charger,  (1) the light on the charger never lit up. (2) The CPU fan came on at full blast (3)  the battery Icon was missing (4) and I noticed that my backlight keyboard mysteriously stopped working.

Take it back and have the techs test it.

  • My battery icon has disappeared from my menu bar at the top of the screen and the energy saver preferences simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'

My battery icon randomly disappeared a few months ago from my menu bar and i have been unable to make it come back. After researching solutions online it soon became clear that all of the suggestions needed me to go into the energy saver preferences in the setting however the icon for the energy saver preferences is no longer there and whenever i click in the blank space where it used to be, it simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'. As a result of this i never know how much battery i have left and so i just have to wait for the machine to die each time
The mac in question is a 13 inch 2012 macbook air that is running on OS Mavericks at the moment.
Any ideas on how to get the icon back?
    - I recently discovered by accident that before i actually log into my account on my mac, when i am still on the page that contains the options of guest user etc. at that point the battery icon is displayed in the top right hand corner? Why is it that the icon exists there but not once i have logged it? Thankyou for any advice.

Nzdmalan the Adobe Creative Cloud application can be found in your Applications folder.  Are you able to access the application itself?  Is your computer managed by an I.T. department?

  • I got a replacement battery but I'm seeing an 'x' in the battery icon...

I got the battery from Laptop Battery One b/c my last battery was lasting 8-10 minutes. I charged the battery and made sure to try to get it charged up and used down through many cycles to help the battery get up to full speed.  Today, I unplugged the power cord and the battery icon is not showing % or time left, it simply is transparent with an 'x' in it.  And the laptop is still working although if I step away and the battery goes into energy saving mode, it won't wake up until I plug the cord back in and tap it.
what does that x mean and what should I do? I can't imagine this is normal.
    Thanks!
    Bernice

I looked at Laptop Battery One's website, and it looks like they make their own batteries, rather than selling Apple-brand batteries. Is this correct?
Also, with modern batteries, you should not cycle the power like that. It is not neccessary to fully charge and fully discharge the battery, and this will probably do more harm than any percieved good. Ideal battery use is something like you take your laptop to work and discharge some power each day, and then charge it back up at night. Basically, just keep the power moving. Don't leave it plugged in all the time (any Mac should automatically discharge about 5% and then recharge to help stay healthy when plugged in for long periods). NEVER fully discharge it if you can avoid it.
SO ANYWAY.... resetting the SMC may help:
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • I just bought a new battery for my MacBook but when I click on the battery icon it is says no battery available. Why?

I bought a new battery for my MacBook today.  I put it into my computer, but when I click on my battery icon it says no battery availble.  I would like to know why?

    Hi....
    Try restarting your Mac ...
"Keep in mind that once the new battery is inserted, you will need to press the power button to start up the computer."
From here > MacBook Pro: How to remove or install the battery
If it restarts ok the battery icon should be available from the status menu bar.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are safely connected go to the iPod Summary tab and make sure "manually manage music and videos" is checked:
iTunes for Mac - Keyboard Shortcuts

  • There is an "x" over my battery icon and even though it's plugged in it's still telling me that there is 0% battery life, what does this mean?

My macbook all of a sudden crashed. When I turned it back on, the fan was running, the battery icon had an "X" over it, and although the power cord is plugged in and the light on it is green, the battery life is still saying that it is 0%. What is wrong with my computer!?

    Hi Jen.
It appears that the battery is perhaps faulty. If you go to  -> About This Mac -> More Info -> Power, could you please tell us the Full Charge Capacity (FCC) in mAh, and the Cycle Count please.
Also, you could try resetting the SMC, to see if that makes a difference.
    Good luck

The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red for a few moments, then black. What does this mean?

    penny41,
Thanks, glad it helped you to check your battery status.
Something else to look at would be the cycle count, as you mention that your computer is "ancient". If you have a high number of cycles, it may also be a sign that the battery is tired and possibly nearing it's life span, and may possibly need to be replaced soon. If you see that again you may try a SMC reset to see if that helps, but if it continues you may need a new battery at some point. The battery icon will usually say needs service, or something to that effect.  For the later MBP's Apple claims a life span of up to 1000 cycles, of this also will be dependent on who the battery is used, on the older ones I'm not quite sure what the claims were, and I don't know how old "ancient" in your case actually means.
I provide this for your info, so that you understand what may possibly be occurring.
    I wish you the best.
    SMC reset:
Follow directions for what applies to your machine, a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself.

  • X in the battery ICON of my battery.

I am having a problem where instead of the charge indicator appearing in the right hand corner of the battery icon, an X is being shown...Also, my battery is not fully charging and will only last on its' own for about 30 min...I know something is wrong...Does anyone know what the X represents and if there is way to solve this problem manually or if I need to take my MacBook into a service center for the 3rd time in the last 6 months...I thought that Macs were supposed to be more reliable...Glad I bought the 3 year warranty I guess...I can't believe that Mac would allow such a faulty product to be released into the public, especially in College campuses where I use this piece of machinery to take notes with day in and day out.

The X indicates that connection to the battery has been lost. Could be either a bad battery, bad connector or even a problem with the logic board.
Sometimes resetting the SMC will fix this:

  • Setting preview images for retina mac book pro?

I love the new retina mac book pro.
I have set the screen size to a higher resolution howver I was hoping that when I press spacebar to preview my images in finder that I can enlarge to a certain size. Most of the images are very small, and I have to drag manually to the right size even though it is slightly blurred.
Is there a script I can add so that the window size is set at a certain size so theres no relation to the actual pixel?

    Hello Shashank
What patchlevel of the 7.30 gui are you using?
Please try the latest hotfix 1 of patch 8.
If you drag the resize icon (Bottom right of the saplogon) does the screen display correctly?
Remember, the saplogon is designed for a minimal screensize of 800x600 which is still
    used.

  • X Through battery icon, no LED light on MagSafe, 2 month old Macbook Pro

This all started this afternoon. I noticed a black X through the battery icon in the upper tool bar, then noticed that there was no LED light on the MagSafe charger. The fan on my computer was also constantly running. This computer is only TWO months old. Since day one I have run the battery down before re-charging. This should have properly calibrated the battery.
Is there some simple fix for this or do I have to take time out of my life during the holiday season, trek to the mall and pray that someone at the genius bar has time to resolve this issue? Hoping there is a saint here somewhere to help me out

    MamaGG:
    Call Apple Care (800) 275-2272.
Your computer is warranted for 1 year for Hardware and for 3 mos, I believe, for free phone tech support.
They may have you take it to the Apple Store near you for the "genius" to work on it.
Have you Serial Number handy. Locate it from the "Apple Icon" drop down menu on the left and side of the upper title Bar and open up "About this Mac" and open up "more info" and then "Hardware".
They have the best support in the industry.
Meanwhile consider getting the Apple Care Add on package for the MB Pro. It extends this Hardware coverage for 3 years and provides free Apple Care Phone Tech support for that time.
I have had it on all my Macs which I have owned. The phone support is well worth it.

  • Battery icon has an X

My son has a 2006 MacBook. After he did a complete back-up and re-install (10.6.8), the battery icon shows a black X. The computer won’t start without the power adapter connected, but will happily run thereafter without it. In the system profiler all the important numbers for the battery show 0. (Voltage, number of recharge cycles, etc.)
    1. We have done the usual stuff, removed battery, reinserted, etc.
    2. We have done an smc reset.
    3. We have followed the instructions on this sheet http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1457
Battery Updater 1.3 installer won’t run, Battery Updater 1.2 tells us that this computer doesn’t need it.
We are at our wits end.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Klaus

Ahh, okay, I thought it was the original battery. Well, since you've done the SMC reset, I'm not sure what else to suggest except to calibrate your battery:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp2991.html
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest you stop by your nearest Genius Bar - the consultation is free; at least you should be able to get a diagnosis.
