Retina MacBook Pro 15" OS X fails to boot.
Today I was playing a Game (The Settlers 2, 10th anniversary edition) when my MacBook ran out of Battery. I went to my desk and plugged it in, about 15 Minutes later i went to my desk and turned the MacBook on. I realized that when I logged in, the MacBook did the Login transition and showed me my wallpaper but the immediately rebooted. (It does that every time I try to boot from now) I can boot from the recovery partition and the Recovery USB just fine, Windows works too.
The Problem is that my MacBooks SSD is File Vault encrypted and I cannot save or backup any of my data before restoring it. I know both the File Vault Password and the Secret Key.
Any help on how to fix this issue/ how to copy my files to an external medium would be nice, thanks.
Fixed the Problem on my own. The solution was:
Mounting the MacintoshHD off an external volume, repairing permissioms etc.
Rebooting into a Kernel Panic
Rebooting again into a working OS.

New Retina MacBook Pro does not find WiFi after booting
My Retina MacBook Pro keeps looking for WiFis after it has booted, but does not find any.
I have to explicitly turn WiFi off and on again after booting to get it working.
When I put the MacBook to sleep and wake it, the problem does not occur.
Any hints what could be the problem? Not sure if this will help, but you can go into System Preferences > Network and, if you haven't already, create a new location (mine is called "home"), then from this location remove all connection methods from the left column except Wi-Fi. Also, click on "Advanced" and remove anything from the Preferred Networks list that you aren't using. Then click on "OK" and "Apply".

Newly purchased Retina Macbook Pro 13" took 2 minutes to boot up
I have a brand new Retina Macbook Pro 13" which is now taking 2 minutes to boot up to login page.
This happened after i have migrated from my macbook air to this new macbook pro.
I am wondering what is causing this to happen...
Nivle. The boot process has several stages. Please see this support article and determine at which stage the problem happens.

CS6 install fails on Retina Macbook Pro
CS6 install fails on Retina Macbook Pro (10.8.2)
I downloaded the CS6 Design and Web Premium trial and attempted to install. It downloaded fine and I can open the .dmg file, but the instant I click the Install application I get the error message "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem." I did as it said but it detected nothing. I deleted the trial and downloaded the Master Collection CS6 trial to see if the result was any different.... it wasn't. Got the same error message. I looked though other forums and tried their methods to fix this but I have had no luck. Time is kind of, of the essence. Start school in a few days and a Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator class is difficult without Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator.
Anybody know what to do?
-DylanI did try a new account and it failed.
I seem to have found a workaround. I used the application manager linked HERE and my issues have been resolved. I was able to install all of the CS6 programs with that Manager. Must have been giving me corrupt files or the manager itself was corrupt.
Everything downloaded, installed, and updated perfectly. All I did was make sure I had every trace of previous attempts deleted off my computer then downloaded the app manager.
Very weird fix but I'm happy it worked. Thanks.

How do I perform a "Suite Product Activation" so that Acrobat will start working on my new Retina MacBook Pro?
Like others, I have recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to the next generation and migrated all my information from old to new. Everything works seamlessly EXCEPT Acrobat. Photoshop, Indesign, Bridge and Lightroom all seem functional. Acrobat hangs with an error message "Suite Product Activation Needed. Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Acrobat, please start another element of the suite (such as Photoshop)." Needless to say, starting another element of the suite has NO impact on Acrobat.
This has to be a common problem. Now that Apple has made it really easy to migrate information from old to new machines, it has to come up all the time. What surprises me greatly is that I can't find any coherent answer in these forums.
So how do I get Acrobat running again?Hi Anubha,
I do not understand what you said below.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?
When you say
"/Library/Application Support/Adobe" at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder)
what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
Now what?

Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter doesn't work with Retina MacBook Pro
I can't seem to connect to Ethernet with my Retina MacBook Pro. I bought an adapter and when I plugged it in, the network setup assistant showed that I was connected to the internet but my web browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome) couldn't connect, nor could any other programs (like Mail). The error message said that my computer was not connected to the internet, which did not match what Network Diagnositcs said. After a phone call with Apple Support, I had a replacement adapter mailed to me. With the new adapter, my computer now says that it is connected to the internet and I even have an IP address, but programs still can't connect and I get an error message saying the DNS lookup failed. This happens even when I manually enter the DNS server. I have already tried running the Thunderbolt software update 1.2.1 as well as the recent Thunderbolt firmware update, but the installer says they are not compatible with my computer. The problem occurs for both Thunderbolt ports. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no problem connecting to WiFi, so my temporary work around is using internet sharing on my old MacBook, which can connect to the ethernet connection in my apartment with no problems.
Hmm. Well I tried rebooting with wifi off but that didn't fix things for me. Would you mind sharing what your System Information says under Thunderbolt? This is what mine looks like:

Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro - ODD SEVERE POWER ISSUE?
My late 2013 retina macbook pro 13" was on safari (on battery, not plugged in) and then the screen went black. The screen went back on, then back to black, then back on, then the Macbook shut off completely.
Then, it tried rebooting twice, both failing to get past a gray screen and startup tone / chime before turning off for good. Now it won't turn on besides you seeing a gray screen and barely hearing the chime before it turning straight off again.
Any suggestions would be great! I have important files that are for a deadline within a couple days!Try resetting the SMC. If that doesn't work, take it to the Genius Bar. You're under warranty.
You want the section "for a battery you should not remove yourself".

Just got a new retina macbook pro and it is having trouble playing youtube videos. some have played fine but others keep skipping and eventually fail all together. This is in addition to the fact that the entire system froze up a couple of times on me and I am not quite sure why. It told me that it "sent the problem to apple" but I am not sure what they do with that information (diagnose/ treat/?). I payed 2300 for this otherwise very nice computer but these breakdowns are agrivating.
I have looked online and it seems there are many of us out there that have experienced this freezing (as well as some others that have had trouble with youtube)
I have an old white 09 macbook that is working better than my brand new macbook pro.
Is the problem the new operating system? I hope Apple comes up with a fix.Sometimes, reinstalling OS X fixes issues like this. I haven't had any issues with a mid-2012 rMBP running either Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
So, you can restart into the Recovery HD by pressing/holding the Command+R keys. Then select Reinstall OS X from the OS X Utilities Menu. Reinstalling the OS on top of itself will not harm your data or apps. Neither are touched. Back up your system first if you decide to reinstall the OS. -
Windows 7 on bootcamp stuck on 1600x1200. On new retina Macbook Pro
I am going nuts trying to figure this out.
I just bought a Retina Macbook Pro.
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium through boot camp and installed the bootcamp drivers. The bootcamp drivers were newly downloaded 2 days ago.
Upon loading of Windows 7 I found that it's stuck at 1600x1200 resolution.
I tried reinstalling(reparing) Bootcamp drivers to no avail.
I downloaded Steam and Skyrim, and it said "Failed to Render" It also mentioned putting the graphics at the lowest settings available.
I would appreciate any help from the community. Thanks!Nvidia GT650M driver install: problems with windows 7 graphic driver after the installation Apple Support Software for Windows. The GT 650M was not showing up as the graphics adapter. I fixed the problem by inserting my windows support software CD a second time. I did not let it use auto run. I went into the Windows 7 directory and then into the Nvidia directory and ran setup.exe. This installed the Nvidia drivers for me. If this works correctly, you will have an Nvidia control panel available to you. I set the resolution to 2880x1800. I also set windows to 200% magnification.
I think what happens is that after you install windows, and then run the windows support CD, the main boot camp setup script seems to stop on the nvidia driver install--everything else installed correctly. -
InDesign CS4 crashes at start on new retina Macbook Pro
Hi
Have migrated all user information and applications from an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to a brand new retina macbook Pro on mountain Lion. Everything works apart from inDesign CS$ which crashes at start up. The crash log is here.
Have already tried most of the suggestions I have found here, resetting preferences etc, but have not been able to uninstall CS4 as the uninstaller encounters a script error when it is run, therefore have not been able to fresh install the app.
Has anyone any advise they can offer, thanks.Ther first crash report looks like the culprit may be SING (see SING Removal) but you really should do a clean install of the applications rather than a migration. Since the uninstaller is failing you can run the clean tool to do the removal: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3

Life of the new Retina MacBook Pro's FLASH Architecture?
Dear all,
How long does the new Retina MacBook Pro's flash based SSD memory last? How exactly is a "write" defined? If I'm going to be paying approximately 2K or more, I better be able to use this computer without problems for 6-8 years.
ThanksSOJHA wrote:
That's funny. I don't recall me ever typing 2004 in the description of my computer.
You said:
I better be able to use this computer without problems for 6-8 years.
That means you expect to get 8 years out of a notebook computer. 2004 was 8 years ago. Apple was selling iBooks and PowerBooks back then running 10.3. This is at odds with your 2007 MacBook running the latest operating system. Obviously you do not expect to get 6-8 years from a notebook. You are faulting a brand-new machine with brand-new technologies for failing to meet requirements that have never before been imposed by you or anyone else.
Your second sentence is completely unhelpful because "as long as all Apple notebooks last" depends much on the user.
That is correct. If you are the type of person that uses your MacBook Pro for light web surfing, e-mail, newsletters, and as a receptical for Frappuccinos ®, then I can guarantee it won't last 8 years.
If you use it only for its intended purposes, then it may or may not be able to run the lateset operating system in 2017. It may even need a hardware refresh to restore original performance. If you are lucky, it might last until 2020, but no reasonable person would expect that. -
EFI Update broke my Retina Macbook Pro performance
Ever since I applied the last EFI Update that was released with 10.8.2 my retina macbook pro has been working awfully.
To begin with xcode, I don't know if it's the version 4.5 or what but switching from one plain file to another takes up to 1 minute and if I switching to a Storyboard it takes way longer. Right now all processes are taking up to 130% on activity monitor and it's impossible to work on it.
After waking up from sleep it's taking years before I can start typing, it takes up to 20-25 seconds, on 10.8.1 it took around 10-15 seconds and on OS X Lion it was instantaneous, What happened?
This is really affecting me, how can I fix this or roll back this EFI update or 10.8.2 all along? This didn't solved my issue, Apps are still using a lot of resources.
I'm attaching a screenshot of xcode using 114% of the processor, no compiling is being done, just editing.
The rMBP has 16GB of RAM, so it's not pagination -
Mid-2012 retina macbook pro nvidia gpu panics
I bought my mid-2012 retina macbook pro in September 2012. It is 8 months out of warranty. I always look after it and use it carefully. Since 2 weeks ago, I encountered the problems below,
1.turn into black screen after running for about 15 mins, but the system is still running because the keyboard is still functional. After reboot, i record the log as below, it shows that it is a GPU Panic.
2. display would not turn on after pressing the power button but can still hear the apple start up chime and the system keep running with the screen
off.
3. after erased the hard drive and re-installed Mavericks. Under a new installed system, it can run normally for about 1 day, after that especially after a shut down or restart, the problems above came back.
I am currently working in Thailand but I have no plan to go back to the US in a short period of time. I brought the laptop to the local apple service, they said it is certainly the logic board or GPU failure and the parts need to be replaced. The cost of the replacement is around half of the price that I paid for this laptop. I feel really disappointed so I called apple telephone service if there is anything that they can help. However, instead of helping me allocate the cause of these problems, the suggestion I received is to buy a new Mac Book and accept the fact that I am just unlucky in this case. This is the first time in my life to encounter mother board or GPU failure excluding artificial damage, they are supposed to be reliable espeically under the name of Apple. It is just so hard for me to accept it.
Below is the system message of the problem, it would be much appreciated if anyone can give me some suggestion that can help me to fix my problem at the lowest cost. Thank you very much.

Mountain lion on iMac compatible with retina Macbook pro?
My late 2012 13" Retina Macbook pro running Mountain lion 10.8.4 is suddenly paralysingly slow due to kernel_task hogging my CPU. I have not been able to find a definite solution to this problem yet, but I am guessing some software installed is causing the sudden meltdown.
I ran Apple Hardware test 3 times.. the first time it spotted an error "4SNS....ICOR..." but after cleaning out the vents on my mac, it hasn't shown up again.
Now I read online that a clean fresh install of Mountain Lion may solve the kernel_task problem... however my rMBP is so slow, that I cant even manage to open the app store on it.
So my questions are:
1) Is there any solution to fixing the kernel_task hyperactivity on the rMBP that I am not aware of? (Tried rebooting, resetting SMC, PRAM multiple times, repairing disk, repairing disk permissions -- all to no avail - the problem recurs after a short period of normalcy and then goes back to becoming unusable)
2) I have a 2011 iMac... Can i download mountain lion on it via the app store, make a bootable disk from it, and use it to perform a fresh reinstall of mountain lion on my 2013 rMBP? Can OSX downloaded on app store of iMac be used on a totally different device like rMBP? Should I be worried about device incompatibility, drivers going out of whack, etc? Or is the mountain lion installer a global software and can figure out the device make on its own and install itself correctly?
Thanks
Regards
Oogamous1. That's a known problem in portable Macs. There's a fix but you have to follow the steps carefully > http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 Make a backup of your files before doing this.
2. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display was launched with a special OS X version, but as the most recent OS X version is 10.8.4, you can download OS X Mountain Lion from the iMac and use it in the MacBook Pro without any problem. Just download OS X Mountain Lion in the iMac and use Lion Diskmaker to burn it to a USB drive or DVD > http://liondiskmaker.com
