Retina MacBook Pro + Cinema Display = Only 25% of images visible when opened
Every single time I open an image, I can only see 25% of it. I have to hit Cmd+, Cmd- to zoom in & out every single time. It's ridiculous. I think the problem might have something to do with the fact that the retina display has twice the pixel density. This is just a theory, but I'd bet money that it's the culprit. I just realized that the problem doesn't exist when I don't have my external monitor plugged in.
Here's what I see on the external 27" monitor:
Then after hitting Cmd+, Cmd-, this is what I see (this web form has scaled this image down, but you get the gist):
Can someone please tell me how to avoid this maddening annoyance? I've contacted Adobe Tech Support, and they can't help me with this problem. They have given up; they simply ignore my emails at this point.
I'm using the latest version of Photoshop CC on a fairly new 15" retina MacBook Pro with a 27" non-Thunderbolt Apple Cinema Display.
Thanks,
Matt
Ah, it's nice to have a friendly and knowledgeable person replying to my question for a change.
Here are my display settings from Mac systems prefs:
The problem exists regardless of the Application Frame setting or the zoom tool's Resize Windows to Fit setting. I'm using windows, not tabs. Here's another example of what I see when I open an image:
And here's what I see after hitting Cmd+ followed by Cmd-
It's really just an incredibly annoying inconvenience.
Thanks for your help!

Retina MacBook Pro fan very loud and usb mouse disconnecting when restarting the computer
2 days ago, I got a brand new retina MacBook Pro 13 inch with the specs 2.8 GhZ i7, 8 gigs of ram and 512gb ssd. It should definitely be functioning properly since it's a really expensive computer, but I already noticed a few problems that I hope you can help me with.
So first of all, when I play World of Warcraft, the fan seems to go up to 6000rpm and is very loud. I checked the activity monitor and it says WoW is using about 60% CPU, so it shouldn't have to be that loud. I also installed smcfancontrol, but it doesn't seem to lower the speed of the fan.
I ran an apple diagnostics test and it couldn't find any problems, and I also tried resetting my smc, but the fan is still going very loud.
And the second problem I have is, that when I have my mouse usb connected to my Mac, and I restart it, it can't detect the mouse anymore. So I'd have to pull out the usb plug and put it back in everytime I turn on my computer. isn't it supposed to automatically connect to my mouse when it's already plugged in?Matt,
Try reading this, then go to the section on Resetting the SMC for a Macbook Pro with a battery you should not remove.

24-inch Cinema Display and Mid-2010 Macbook Pro - Cinema Display still flickers after updates
I currently have a 15-inch Macbook Pro (mid 2010) hooked up to my 24-inch Cinema Display. I have updated all the firmware for both the Cinema Display and the Macbook Pro but still get intermittent flickering. Moreover, I have cleared the PRAM and VRAM. I have done ever possible update I can find, the system is fully functioning. Help?
I am having this exact same problem. 2010 iMac with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256MB. I have it hooked to a 30" display through a DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter. The 30" is fine, but I have graphical corruption constantly on the main iMac screen.
This all started as soon as I updated to Yosemite a couple days ago. -
15" late 2013 Macbook Pro / Cinema Display video freeze
Late 2013 rMBP 15". 2.6 i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SDD. 27" Cinema Display
Occasionally, and unpredictably, the video will freeze.
I can be on a google hangout and have full audio but the video does not update.
After 10 to 30 seconds the display starts responding again like nothing ever happened.
It only happens (that I have seen) when my Cinema Display is plugged in.
I had troubles with this display booting into BootCamp and had to leave it unplugged for 10m in order to get it to reset.
Anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas how to troubleshoot? You'll get 2560 x 1600 - that's the max resolution of the display, and it's the max resolution of dual-link DVI (at least, at the standard refresh rate).

I am a long time user of Macs. 20+ years.
This is my granddaughters 13" MacBook Pro we purchased for her in 2010 for college.
I have tried everything I know including firewire connection to my iMac while holding the T key, two different utilities CDs (will not open them) and held various key combinations as recommended while start up. Computer just beebs ever four seconds.
Battery is built-in but fully charged.
Any ideas?Hello,
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

MacBook Pro won't turn on or "wake up" when opened
Hey guys,
I've been having the following issue quite often over the past few days. I always use my MacBook Pro connected to a power source, however, when I go to study at the library or something like that, I don't usually bring my power adapter with me, I just run it on battery power. But once I open it when I get there, I hear the hard drive make the "waking up" noise, but the screen stays blank and doesn't respond to any mouse movements or key presses. I am forced to hold the power button and restart it every time, and it's quite frustrating.
To put it simply, when I use my computer plugged in, close it, unplug the power cord, then open it up (unplugged), it does not "wake up" or turn on.
I was hoping some of you might be able to help me with this!
Note: This happened once today when my I opened my computer again, still plugged in to a power source.
Thanks,
SpencerSame problem for a couple of weeks.
I've read many posts on this type of problem, and I recently updated my software so I have:
* Leopard 5.2, with...
* Latest Graphics Update
* EFI Update with Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07
I most often have the problem after suspending my machine which was connected to an external Viewsonic 22" monitor (VX2235wm).
I find that if I let the system hibernate, pull out the battery, put it back in, and then reboot the system that it returns from hibernation with the screen intact but with no responsiveness whatsoever.
If I wake the system up very soon after suspending, less problems. However, if I wait an hour or two to wake-up, I run into the problem.
This may all be anecdotal, I'm just hoping Apple is listening.... -
I am running a 17" current gen MacBook Pro, I have noticed a shift to a blue cast when I use certain applications like screenflow and coda 2. Anyone else have this problem or noticed it.

Retina macbook pro thunderbolt display not discovered on wake 10.8.1
Okay, so I installed 10.8.1 yesterday,
Now, when my MBP Retina wakes from sleep, for a few seconds both displays work, but then either the TB display or the MBP display blacks out and doesn't light back up until I reset the MBP. I can still move the cursor onto that screen's "space" but I can't see it because the screen is blank/blacked out.
When I open prefereneces and try to "detect displays" the display doesn't show up/nothing changes.
I end up doing a Shift-Option-Control / Power SMC reset after shutdown to get both screens to work again.
I did not have this problem before 10.8.1.
Any ideas?I have a similar problem. I updated to 10.8.2 and lost the functionality of the thunderbolt port closest to the rear of the laptop. Was using it daily for presentations, updated, and now can only use the port closer to the front of the machine.

I recently started using a thunderbolt ethernet adaptor and every time my comuter wakes from sleep, all the apps that were open no longer use the internet connection. I have to restart each one of them for them to be able to use the present internet connection. any ideas?
So I've noticed similar behaviour on my Macbook Air. It's a slightly different set of kit, since it's connected to a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (http://www.belkin.com/uk/p/P-F4U055/). I'm on my second one of these because first one went back because it kept on dropping the internet connection (sounds familiar?) - and it *might* have been occurring when waking the system from sleep (I didn't make a mental note).
Anyway the replacement was working perfectly, until today - when it's started to drop it's internet connection again, and this time I'm pretty certain that it's related to waking from sleep. The main difference now is that I *just* upgraded to Mavericks, and I wonder if the sleep problem has reared its ugly head again in the latest version of MacOS?
All in all I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the reliability of thunderbolt & the Belkin Dock thingie. Although it should be said that a single lead from my Macbook Air to the Express Dock is simultaneously carrying: video (1920x1200), Firewire800, 3xUSB3, gigabit ethernet and sound, so I'm not that surprised this technology is prone to the odd glitch, and the cables get really warm too!
It would be great to have some solid information from Apple/Belkin about this.
Cheers, Jon -
My MacBook Pro 17" display has been corrupted, image doesn't fit screen?
Why has the image on my screen become larger than the screen size?
By accident you much have slightly zoomed the screen.
Head to your Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility or Universal Access and adjust. -

13" Retina Macbook Pro Burn-In
Does the newly released 13" Retina Macbook Pro have the same ghosting and image retention issues that the 15" had? I'm wondering if they were able to fix the issue in the time since the 15" release. Are they still sourcing panels from both LG and Samsung? I'm looking at buying one of these but searched everywhere online and couldn't find a comprehensive answer to this question, only a bunch of complaints about the 15" model's problem.
You may have to tweak the command a bit to determine the panel manufacturer of the new rMBP 13".
As seen on Quora:
It is possible Apple intentionally removed the display model but sounds more likely that the format is different, if you run just "ioreg -lw0 | grep EDID" and convert the hex (stuff between < and >) with Convert Hexadecimal To String Online what do you get ? -
Using third party headset with Retina Macbook Pro (microphone issue)
Good day, everyone!
I have very strange issue with my Retina Macbook Pro (Late 2013) OS X 10.9.3
When I plug in my Steel Series Headset, its microphone not recognised by system and only "Internal microphone" available in Settings - Sound - Input.
Headset itself works perfectly fine, because when I plug it to my iPhone, its microphone works without any problems.
Macbook's headphone port also works fine — when I plug in my iPhone original headset to Macbook, its mic works good and I can see "External microphone" in Settings - Sound - Input.
So headset is ok and headphone port is ok. What is the problem?
How to force macbook to use headset microphone instead of built-in one?
Thanks in advanceEither contact the sales staff at the store where you ordered your Mac from or contact the speaker manufacturer & ask them.

Mini display port to HDMI make my retina MacBook Pro have strong static
Hi god, every time I use my new Retina MacBook Pro only one weeks old using internal battery connect mini display port to HDMI to my Sony LED TV my MacBook Pro will have will strong static all around the body! If I plug in the Mac adapter the static will be gone! It never happen to my old MacBook Pro 2011 early! Pls help...
If it is the same adapter, then I would bring the MBP and the adapter to an Apple store for evaluation. If not, the adapter may be the problem.

Need advice for external display for my retina Macbook Pro.
I got my 15-inch retina Macbook Pro (Mid 2014) two months ago. It’s a fantastic machine but I am having some regrets concerning screen size. I want to be able to enjoy movies on my computer but 15-inch is just too small. So I am considering purchasing an external display for my Macbook Pro. I am thinking about a 25’’+ monitor (or TV) which can offer me closest experience to the retina one on my Macbook. I don’t want 4K monitors though, as most of the contents I consume are full HD 1080P. But I do care about PPI a lot (for browsing).
What kind of display can help me obtain this similar experience I get on my Mac? Any recommendations? Thanks.I have the 15" MacBook Pro, Retina, Mid 2012 also, same exact model. Kind of the same thing is happening with me. I will intermitentyl get a flickering on the bottom 1/3 of the screen, all the way across. It flickers/flashes on and off on the bottom half or third of the screen, when I am typing or when I am perfectly stil, doen't really matterl. Only happens for a split second, but can do it multiple times, or sometimes not at all. I can go tens of minutes without i hapenning, but I can also go tens of seconds with it happening multiple times.
It never goes black or grey or "out" at all, just randomly flickers throughout the day.
I do get burned-in images all the time, but they disappear within seconds. But this flickering is definitely worrysome. I did get the the Apple Care, so I am not too worried as Apple is usually good about this kind of thing, but I do have a similar problem to you and wanted to document this. I didnt find many other people oiut there with this problem, so let me know what has gone on since your post on the New Year. Any solution? Did you call Apple?
Thanks webrian.
