Retina Macbook Pro with Safari display issues

Is anyone having crazy display issues with Safari on their rMBP? I'm noticing some wierd glitching going on. For instance, as I type this, it doesn't show the correct characters consistently. Sometimes when I'm in Gmail, entire portions of the interface are missing unless I move the cursor over them. Some pages don't load at all and I have to refresh. Other times I'll load a page, click a link, and then hit back to go to the previous page and it's empty.
I'm not experiencing this in third party applications like MS Office, or Chrome, or other parts of Mountain Lion (though I do suffer from the same jerky UI transitions that everyone else has, but that's a different story). Anyone else in my boat? Suggestions?

Nevermind, looks like other people have the same issues: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4145775?start=0&tstart=0
Looks like the "geniuses" have been sleeping on the job. Step up your game, Apple.

  • Retina macbook pro with thunderbolt display causes speaker issues

I have a thunderbolt display and used the speakers fine on old macbook pro. I now plug in my new retina macbook pro 15" with mountain lion and the sound plays fine for a while then starts to crackle real bad and then stops all together. If I switch the the laptop speakers then switch back after 30 or so minutes the thunderbolt speakers will work again for a short amount of time then again crackle and stop.
This may be mountain lion related but I have tried another non-retina version macbook pro with mountain lion and did not notice the issue but it was only for an hour or so. So this leads me to belive its the computer.
Any suggestions? its really really anoying and wasting my time trying to fix it.

I have the exact same issue. I hauled the TB Display into the Apple Store 3 times and finally they replaced it. Come to find out this new one has the same issue still. So It has to be rMBP related at this point. Unfortunately I don't think I have it under warranty still and the issue is hard to demonstrate. I recorded videos of it but every time I go into the store and plug it is the same as switching the speakers from internal to external and it takes 30-60 mins before it degrates to scratching sounds.
Please let me know if you ever foudn a solution. Im going to try to keep taking it in until I can get this resolved.

  • Retina Macbook Pro with Mavericks freezes

So ever since I upgraded to OS X Mavericks I've been having a really annoying issue. Usually around once a day (or every couple of days) my computer will freeze. First usually one program freezes (like Google Chome or Microsoft Word) and then when I open up the Force Quit window other applications will start freezing (as well as the Force Quit window itself!) and after a little bit my entire computer is just frozen. I've found that the only way to fix this issue is to force my computer to restart by holding down the power button. I've tried writing to Apple about this (multiple times!) but haven't gotten a single response. If you have any ideas on what might be causing this or how I could try fixing it that would be greatly appreciated.
If it helps, I have a 2012 15-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    Thanks in advance!

Wow this is weird...The only real thing we have in common are the freezing and the operating system. Sometimes if I leave it for 10 or 20 minutes it'll unfreeze and pretend nothing happened, but usually I have to hit the power button.
I have a brand new (Nov 2013) retina macbook pro, 13 inch, and it came with mavericks pre-installed. I don't have any Microsoft products installed. It freezes so randomly that I don't see any pattern with apps that I have open.
I figured it was just a buggy version and apple would fix it soon. But still waiting.
Have you tried a fresh reinstall? If this keeps up I might try that.
Does you keyboard freeze up? I just noticed that the back-lighting on the keyboard of my laptop doesn't go on during the freeze. I guess that means the keyboard has no power to do anything about the freeze.
I noticed in your shot of your screen, microsoft word wasn't giving you any problems...only the native apple apps.
Here's one of my freezes. What a beauty eh?
EDIT*** I tried pasting an image but didn't show up after posting this reply...oh well, It was similar to your one.

  • Should I get a £999 13 Inch Macbook Air with 128 GB SSD or a £1249 13 Inch Retina Macbook Pro with 128GB SSD

I am a twelve year old boy ready to get my first Mac computer. I already have an iPad 3 and I really like it. Now I'm going to start saving up for a Mac and I am down to two choices, as listed above. I'm going to be using it for web browsing, games, drawing, word documents, presentations, movies, video calling, messages, Windows 8 and I will be using quite a few apps from the Mac App Store.
Also could you tell me how long Apple support the MacBook Air with the latest version of OS X and how long they support the MacBook Pro with the latest OS.
I also want to know if it is worth paying £200 to upgrade a 128GB SSD to a 256GB one.

If past history serves, Apple will support the 2013 models for 5-7 years with new OS upgrades but there's no guarantee. However that doesn't mean the computer will be worthless. I have a 10-11 year old Mac serving as a guest computer running an OS two versions old. It still does everything our guests would want to do while they are visiting.
The 128GB drive is the smallest I'd recommend and for a teen (who is likely to collect media and lots of software) I'd call the 256GB a very good idea - especially ince you indicate you want to run Win8 too.
The retina MacBook has a gorgeous display and has a faster processor but all those extra pixels push the GPU to the max. Until faster GPUs come along I'm avoiding the retina computers.

  • Restarting MacBook pro with cinema display and lid closed?

Is it possible to restart the macbook pro with its lid closed when it is hooked to an apple 20" cinema display?
I have a 15" macbook pro 2.33GHz and want to be able to use it like a desktop system with just the external display when I am at home.
Also should I worry about heat issues running it with the lid closed sitting on the wood desk top?
    Thanks

Thanks, I just realized that I phrased my question rather badly.
My real problem is how to start my computer without opening up the lid. I have a stand on my desk that the display is on and the macbook slides under when it's closed. Having to unplug it and pull it out every time it is shut down and needs to be started is rather a pain. The button on the side of the display seems to work for sleep/restart/shut down, but it doesn't seem to be able to start the computer once it is shut down; so my question is, is this possible?... am I dreaming?

  • MacBook Pro with external display sometimes

I want to use my MacBook Pro with my external display (Apple 23 inch Cinema) when I'm at my office, and to have Spaces set up and optimized for that. When I'm at home or on the road, I want Spaces set up differently, optimized for the MacBook Pro display only (no external display). Can I do this? Do I need to set up separate accounts on the MBP to do this, or can I do it some other way? Can you have sets, or multiple instances of Spaces? Otherwise, I want both options -- at work with MBP display plus Apple 23 inch Cinema or MBP display only -- to be able to access all of my files and software. The only real difference in the two setups would be the amount of screen real estate and where/how Spaces works within these different screen "landscapes."

You will always have to use the power button to turn it on, and you'll have to open the display for that.
Apple supports using the machine with its display closed, provided you follow the instructions in this article. As long as you do that, it shouldn't cause any harm. But I wouldn't recommend seeing how hot you can get the MBP with the display closed.

  • Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro - ODD SEVERE POWER ISSUE?

My late 2013 retina macbook pro 13" was on safari (on battery, not plugged in) and then the screen went black. The screen went back on, then back to black, then back on, then the Macbook shut off completely.
Then, it tried rebooting twice, both failing to get past a gray screen and startup tone / chime before turning off for good. Now it won't turn on besides you seeing a gray screen and barely hearing the chime before it turning straight off again.
Any suggestions would be great! I have important files that are for a deadline within a couple days!

Try resetting the SMC. If that doesn't work, take it to the Genius Bar. You're under warranty.
You want the section "for a battery you should not remove yourself".

  • HT1539 How do I redeem my Digital Copy if I have a Retina Macbook Pro with no DVD drive?  Apple should have fixed this by now!

I have a Retina Macbook Pro, but iTunes is asking me to insert a disc.  Well, I can't.  Why has Apple not fixed this.  I want to enter my code and get my movie.

I know that this isn't a real solution for your computer, but the digital copy is tied to your Apple ID. So if you have another Mac, you can redeem it on that Mac, then download the movie to your Retina MBP (Movies in the Cloud FTW).
If you don't own another Mac yourself, find a friend's computer, log out of his iTunes (or make a new user account), log into your Apple ID within iTunes, Authorize iTunes, then insert the DVD and redeem it. I redeemed Skyfall & Frankenweenie from an iMac at work just to see if it works, which it does. Heck, I don't think they even need a Mac, a PC running iTunes should work!

  • Retina Macbook Pro thunderbolt ethernet adaptor issue

    Hi there,
My retina macbook pro is recognising my thunderbolt to ethernet adapor in system profile but it wont connect to the internet.
I tried the same adaptor in my macbook air where it works.
has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?

Reset the SMC. If that doesn't fix it take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have them Fix It. That is why they are in business.

  • New 15" Macbook Pro with periodic charging issues

    Hola a todos,
I've had my Macbook Pro (2011, 15", 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, still running Snow Leopard, blahblahblah) for two months now, and it's been having charging problems on and off since its first day out of the box. Basically, when it happens, it will be plugged in and the battery display will cycle from "Not Charging" to "Calculating" to showing charging times like "30:00." It also cycles between green and amber lights when this is happening. Even when it's showing these supposed 20+ hour charging times, it doesn't charge at all. It also tends to run really hot when this is happening, even with minimal usage (i.e., the CPU sometimes gets as high as 90°C with leisurely web browsing when this happens, and the fan runs like the computer is trying to take off from a helipad).
Updates, SMC and PRAM resets, and the like don't help. And it's definitely a computer issue - when it does this, it continues to do it no matter what power adapter I plug it into or what wall outlet I'm using.  However, calibrating the battery usually will keep it from doing this for a couple of charge cycles, which is why I briefly thought this wasn't an issue, but it keeps returning - and I can't run a full calibration cycle every time I need to use my computer, since sometimes I need to use my computer continuously without letting it die... and calibrating every 48 hours shouldn't be necessary with a new computer. Sometimes it stops on its own (without calibration) for a while and starts charging normally
What is going on? Is this the battery? The MagSafe board? Something else? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sure I can get it fixed, especially since I have AppleCare, but I'm hoping I'm not going to have to leave my computer for someone for an extended period to have this fixed, since I can't function without it for school/work... blehhh.
Thanks so much if you have any wisdom to impart about this weirdness.

That's definitely the plan whenever I finally have time to do that, but in the meantime I'm just curious if anyone has had this problem or if anyone knows what might be wrong (and how much trouble and time it might take to get it fixed). It also doesn't seem to be getting worse, but I guess I need to know if it's the sign of something that could get worse so that I don't put the repairs off too long. I am usually pretty capable of diagnosing my own computer problems, if not fixing them, but this time I'm baffled.

  • MacBook Pro Startup and Display Issues

I've been having some random problems with my MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 7200 rpm hard drive, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics). Specifically:
    1. Lines across the screen and purple boxes sometimes appear.
    2. The graphic effects (e.g. zooming a window) sometimes get "frozen" on the screen. In other words a remnant from the animation will stay until the window is refreshed.
    3. The Mac sometimes freezes during the startup process. Sometimes the login screen will be unresponsive and other times the Mac will almost bootup but fail when loading startup items.
    4. Less frequently the Mac will freeze randomly. I previously had iStat Menus installed and each time the MacBook Pro froze up it indicated both read and write disk activities.
Yesterday I decided to wipe the machine clean and start from scratch in case there were a software issue or corruption on the hard drive that was causing my woes. I completely erased my hard drive and even zeroed the entire disk to make sure everything was completely wiped out. I also disconnected all peripherals to simplify things as much as possible.
The first time I tried the reinstall everything completed successfully but the "Welcome" movie froze part way through. I then had problems running the install again. I was able to boot off the Leopard DVD, but the machine froze a couple of clicks into the install procedure. After numerous tries I was able to erase the hard drive once again and install Leopard. This completed successfully and I installed all updates.
The problems started to show up again almost immediately, however. I installed iLife and iWork and all the updates and had the computer freeze up on me again during a reboot. I also noticed that the display issues started to show up again even before installing any third-party software.
I've tried running disk tests with Drive Genius 2.1, but no errors have been reported. I've also used the freeware Rember program to run memory tests but have yet to see any errors. Sometimes my Mac powers up without any problems and once it's powered up it often stays running for days. The display issues appear quite frequently. I've using iStat Menus to keep an eye on the temperature sensors and everything appears to be normal - so it doesn't appear to be temperature related.
Fortunately the computer's still covered under the extended AppleCare warranty, but I would like to have some idea what's going on before I take it in just in case they're not able to reproduce the issues.
Any suggestions and insights would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading my rather long-winded message.
    Cheers,
    Tim

I took my MacBook Pro in for repair and it turned out to be an issue with the logic board. I had the logic board replaced (fortunately it was covered under my extended AppleCare warranty) and these problems are a thing of the past.

  • Macbook Pro Early 2011 Display issue

    Hi all,
After reading the replacement program that has been extended to MBP for 15" and 17", is there going to be any news with regards to the 13"?
The reason why I'm asking is that while I'm not sure if mine is an isolated issue or widespread/common occurrence, I have had my logic board replaced last year due to a display issue, and currently still unable to run external display, despite reading up on discussion that is going on.
The symptoms mirror that of the 15"/17", just that the 13" does not have a dedicated GPU.
Hope to get more suggestions/ solutions/ news to potential replacement program from here.
    Thanks all!
    Regards,
    Ziang

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Early 2011 15 and 17-inch MacBooks Pro have had several GPU issues that causes graphic corruption, and it was an issue that showed in most MacBooks Pro. However, this does not apply to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, so I think it is just an issue that has appeared on your Mac but there is not a reason for a replacement program.
