Retina MBP locks up when trusting an untrusted certificate

My new 2013 MBP Retina 13 inch hangs when any program is asked about untrusted certificated, I selected "Always trust" in system "view certificate" window, and the app starts to hang. I then see the spinning ball of death for a little while and then all applications completely lock. I have to do a hard shutdown to get the system functional again. Does anyone know a solution to fix this issue? I have already reinstalled Mavericks, but the issue is present.

If anyone can help me diagnose this problem, or atleast tell me what log or console to look at for more info, I would greatly appreciate it.
In the Applications->Utilities folder is a program called console.app
Run it.
When the system is hiccuping, you should actually see some activity going on in one of more of the logs.
Also, run the Activity monitor and see if something is using an unusual amount of CPU or anything else odd.
Activity Monitor.app is also located in the Utilities folder.

• New MBP locks up when watching DVD.

Hi,
I have a 15" MBP 2.2G 2G RAM. About 1 month old.
The scenario is that I have three Apps open; DVD player, Final Cut Pro and Motion.
I flick backwards and forwards between the apps, watching and pausing a Tutorial DVD, whilst making changes in FCP and Motion.
Every now-and-again the Mac just freezes, usually when I'm watching/pausing the DVD.
At this point nothing is accessible; no Force Quit, no Mouse movement, no Dock, no nothing.
My only option is to hold down the power button to turn off the machine.
Anyone kind enough to offer suggestions or direct me to the right place for a fix?
Thanks in advance...

Try to determine if the issue is software-related. Boot from your install DVD and let it idle from there. If it does not act up, then I would say you have a problem in your operating system and a reinstall should fix it.

• Machine freezez/lock ups when using password protected certificates in IE 11 Windows 8.1 Pro

When using certificates that have a password enabled and private keys we find the machine hangs up competly with the memory usage jumping to 99%. The main process being the Local Secuirty Authority Process that causes the machine to lock up. The work
around we have is to remove this certificate and import a new certificate making sure we un-tick the check box for private key password.
Not sure if this
KB2813237 is linked, but this hotfix is available for Windows 8.1 Pro OS.

Hi Simon,
You can try that suggestion and check whether it is solved and give your result, if there is any other issue, you can post it back.

When will Adobe CS6 InDesign be optimized for the retina MBP?

Nobody knows even whether CS6 will get this or if there wil lbe a paid/ Creative Cloud exclusive 6.5 update or something liek that. You're asking teh wrong question to the wrong people. Even if we knew, we wouldn't be allowed to tell you anything until Adobe announces this officially.

Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

• 2nd iPod Classic locking up when connecting to MacBook Pro

I'll sum up the lead-in story as best I can.
I have a 2010 MacBook Pro 13". Just got an new iPod Classic a couple weeks back. I discovered that when playing the iQuiz game, I had a few lock-ups (freezing). Then a handful of times, it locked up when connecting it to the MacBook for charging or syncing. It didn't lock up EVERY time. But about 1 out of every 4 syncs on average.
I naturally thought something was wrong with the Classic, and brought it into the Apple store when it was locked up, and they gave me a new one.
But now this one is doing the same thing. Occasional lock-ups when connecting to the MacBook Pro. Doesn't matter which USB port. And doesn't seem to matter if the computer has been on, or if it's a fresh boot.
What could be going on here? I doubt highly that both Classics I've gotten have the same exact issue with occasional lock-ups when connected to the computer. My MBP otherwise has given me no problems. And no problems with other USB devices, ever.
Any ideas?

Update: bought a new usb sync cable to try, and no change. the Classic locked up the first try with the new cable.

• Retina MBP 2.6 only 3 hours of battery life?

My 1 week old Retina MBP 2.6 is only getting 3 hours max on battery with light surfing. When watching videos i also only get 3 hours tops. Bluetooth is off, keyboard light off, screen backlighting 50%, gfxCardstatus set to integrated only (also confirmed in energy saving settings). I run 10.7.4, all updates installed.
Is this normal? Isn´t it supposed to get at least 5 hours when browsing the web (no youtube)? Should i return it and get the 2.3 instead for more battery life?
Thanks in advance.

There have been reports of problems with various models experiencing low battery life after installing Mountain Lion but as you're still using Lion, you should be getting at least 7 hours on battery for light web surfing (not a lot of YouTube videos, etc.).
My suggestion would be to take the machine into your local Apple Store and let them deal with the problem. Before that you can download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store which lets you see your battery health in real-time, as opposed to always having to go into your System Report. There's no reason that you should be getting less than 7+ hours of battery life.

• Upgraded 2012 MACBOOK PRO 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB an alternate for RETINA MBP 15 or NOT?How good is its potential, reliability ?

I am a student and an aspiring filmmaker.I am also into digital cinematography (Canon 550D) and now will be venturing into editing. I am in DIRE NEED of help
I have a few problems regarding the purchase of Macbook pro.I live in Kolkata(India).I have been waiting for the past 1 and a half years to buy a Mac but after the release of Retina Macbook pro 15.I am left confused. Its near unupgradability and unreparibility rumors, delayed delivery, and 1st generation hardware issues especially the lack of Optical drive made me reconsider my decision of buying one.
I want to know whether I can go for the top model of Non Retina - 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1 GB Nvidea as an alternate choice for Retina MBP pro or NOT ?
1.I wanted to buy the Retina Base model. Though it is very recently launched and there is a big risk buying it because they say it is unrepairable and unfixable as 'everything is glued into the motherboard' dialogue scares me. Something goes wrong after purchase and they send it back to US, is what the Apple officials said. Moreover they don’t keep one on a demo at Apple stores in kolkata. I have searched almost everywhere and have been to many resellers in my city but no use.
NOW,I am very sceptical about custom ordering a Macbook 15 non retina with High-Res 1680X1050p from US.I don’t know how much custom duty or expenses I have to pay and is it safe or not. Time is also a factor. Sadly, I have to buy one in Kolkata (my city) it seems.
2. I am opting for Macbook Pro 15,2.6 Ghz,8GB RAM. Buying it for the sole purpose of editing(audio, video, photos).I need something which is fast along with a good screen size. My original decision was to buy the 17inch but after the launch of Retina and the upgraded 15 inch, I am only looking forward to the upgraded models. Many say 13 inch is fast, but it features a dual core with a maximum of 2.9Ghz clockspeed. I on the other hand want a quad core i7 with good upgradability options and a good screen size. The 13 inch may be a favorite for many, but I want nothing less than a 15 inch. One good option I get with non Retina 15 is its upgradability, while many say Retina MBP 15 can be made upgradable in future but that time is yet to come and by the time the whole web becomes ‘retina friendly’ and all applications supporting its 2880X1800 resolution, I may end up waiting only. Yes the picture quality remains unbeatable when compared to Retina Pro and it will always be. Though friends, I am a student, I want something which is fast, can run almost anything and future dependable. Retina Mac book Pro in India is 2799 USD - Base model. I cannot pay that amount just for the screen. As far as speed is concerned, I plan to get an OWC SSD and a 16 GB OWC RAM in the future resulting in greater speed when comparing the configuration with Retina 15.That problem is solved.
My problem here is this: The web is filled with reviews and videos of Retina Macbook Pro and the upgraded Macbook Pro 15 is just no where, if you even find a few videos, they only feature unboxing videos of Macbook pro 15 (i7-2.3Ghz-4GB-500GB-500MB Nvidea).Other videos compare the 2.3ghz model with Retina 15 pro. They are not elaborate like the 15 Retina Pro reviews.
1. I want to know about the real performance, potential, pros, cons of Macbook Pro 15 (i7 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1GB Nvidea graphics).
So my question to you is what is your opinion on the 15 inch non retina ? HOW FAST do you think is the new upgraded 15inch non retina i7-2.6Ghz-8GB-750GB model really is ?I have read on many mac forums and seen on a particular youtube video that 15inch 2.3Ghz model takes an alarming 40 seconds to start because of traditional hard drive ! A normal DELL Inspiron starts at 15 secs max with i3+4 GB RAM and this particularly confuses me about the whole quad core processing and stuff and speed when running applications like C6,FCP,Lightroom etc is to be determined in regard to the model I want to buy.
2. Is it necessary to buy APPLE CARE WARRANTY when buying a laptop from Apple. What are the benefits and how is it different form the normal customer care ?
3. Please enlighten me on some nice headphones from Sennheizer under 90 USD.I am considering Sennheiser HD 439.I am not a bass freak and I want something to use for listening to voice, loud clear. In short, a headphone for all purpose. I heard the HD 449 is not that good compared to HD 439.They say it is Jazz oriented. Another confusion !
Finally, If you know anyone who knows about this configuration (15inch 2.6 8GB RAM 750GB) and its performance than please help me out my friends. Any small detail, input, you feel like please let me know. Please help me be sure and satisfied am buying my Macbook Pro very soon and I am awaiting your response.

Well, are you talking about a 750 Hard Drive or SSD? If SSD (quite expensive) it will certainly be as fast. One option is to get the smallest HD they have and with the Non Retina you can upgrade the HD to an SSD later or now but save a little money. Check with iFixit or OWC for instructions. HD's do take longer to start up and load, but once open, the processor and video work just the same as on the Retina model. The SSD speed is nice, but really not critical. So you have to wait a minute for your computer to boot up. The other big question is you need to find out if the non-retina model will take 16GB of ram. According to OWC's site, it will, 16GB for 150USD. Once you get programs open and resident in ram, everything will fly.

• New Retina MBP + Windows 7 boot camp = no nVidia GPU

I'm hoping someone will correct me wrong on this...
I have a brand new 15" Retina MBP 2.6GHz 16GB RAM 500 SSD.
After finally getting Windows 7 SP1 installed (along with countless updates ) and boot camp 4.0, I have noticed some display problems. My only reslution options are: 1600x1200 (which looks stretched), 1280x1024 (reallly stretched), and lesser resolutions with which I didn't bother. This didn't seem to make sense given the nVidia 650M.
Also, NONE of the external video ports are working (Thunderbolt to DisplayPort, HDMI to HDMI, HDMI to DVI) -- they're simply not getting a signal at all.
So I went into device manager, and the 650M is not even showing up as being installed! All I see is "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter", which tells me Windows is only acknowledging the integrated Intel graphics.
I can't simply install an nVidia driver, as it can't see the device onto which that driver would be applicable.
I assumed this was an issue of the "automatic graphics switching." Apple confirmed this, telling me that Windows doesn't have an option to choose between displays. I couldn't find a way to trigger it with any third party app, either (including Adobe After Effects).
Further, Apple claims 64-bit drivers aren't yet available for this GPU, so even if I could switch it over, I'd have to step down to a 32-bit install.
So, basically, my boot camp side looks like a netbook.
I cannot be the only one experiencing this!
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

I followed the boot camp manual exactly and the Nvidia drivers were not installed. I had to go into the Nvidia drivers directory in the windows support CD and manually run the setup.exe file. After that, the drivers were installed.
Note: when you create your windows partition in boot camp, you will select custom, and then format. It is critical that you format your boot camp partition and not your OS X partition. It will not say boot camp, but you can tell it's the right one by its size. For example, if you selected a 40 GB size for boot camp, the size of the drive you select to format should be 40 GB.

That is exactly what I said, are you sure you wanted to reply to me?
FYI, In a normal Bootcamp installation the partition will be named Bootcamp

• How do I get 2560x1600 with a 30" Dell display in Bootcamp on the Retina MBP

I had a MBA 11" that recognized the 30" Dell 3007WFP display at its native resolution.
To get it to work in Mountain Lion I used the "hold option when scaling" trick. Success.
Bootcamp though isn't working.
Since getting Retina MBP and Mountain Lion Bootcamp NVIDIA graphic drivers installed, I can play games on the Retina at 2880x1800 fine, and the external only works at 1280x800. It shows that it can go up to 2560x1600 but it doesn't actually work.
Is there something wrong with Apple's adapter for Thunderbolt to DVI-D Dual Link and the new drivers or the MBP Retina's Thunderbolt port? The display is only receiving Single Link instead of Dual Link, limiting the resolution to 1280x800 instead of 2560x1600.

hi guys
before I bought Retina, I did a little research on the internet...
I remember reading that for the time being, you cannot use retina MBP with other displays at max or higher resolution under bootcamp...
I read that the driver for this retina mbp video card was Apple Mac OsX specific or something like that.
Therefore, no support under other than Mac osx environment yet...
I don't know if I made myself clear...
you can do a little research on the internet and you'll easily find articles talking about this issue...

• Apple Hardware Test error 4SNS/1/40000001:ID0R-0.000 on Retina MBP

Getting the above error on my 3-day old retina MBP with 16gb RAM and 768GB flash storage. I had loaded Chrome, Firefox, VMWare Fusion, Office 2011, and all the Apple updates as of 7/3/12.
My issue may be related to similar issues I've seen on these boards, relating to sleep or wakeup causing the intermittent crash. Machine has also crashed (kernel panic) 2 times. Genius Bar employee downplayed the AHT altogether, saying it's a false positive since his more advanced tool reported no errors. They then kept it for a day, to run a "loop test," which also came back with no errors. Then, because apparently it is easier to re-load the OS rather than actually diagnose the issue, they re-loaded my OS clean. (Yay, now I can re-load all my apps, copy 200GB data back on, and THEN we'll see that it is a hardware problem.)
Tomorrow I'll pick it up from Apple and run the AHT again. If it errors out again, I'm not sure what to do...

One note I had neglected to mention is that the bar/band immediately above the keyboard gets very, very hot. Yes, I know that is where the fans are. However, all 12 of the MBP's at the Apple store did not have this extra-hot band, and those are on all day. My little Safari & Mail apps should not cause an overheat situation, on a functioning machine. Apple blamed Google Chrome for the crashes, downplayed the overheating, and downplayed the AHT results.
Update: I went to the Apple store today and took a look at the notebook. They ran their tests, had re-loaded the OS, and performed an undisclosed hardware repair. (They were helpful but vague as to what the actually did on the machine, hardware-wise.) They said their advanced tools & extended Loop Test did not indicate any errors or problems. While still at the store, I ran another quick test with the Apple Hardware Test, which came back with the same 4SNS error as mentioned above. I asked for a refund, which they approved (except they said I have to come back Monday since I bought the machine from Apple Business.)
When I got home, I ran an extended test with the Apple Hardware Test and got a *diffferent* error this time: 4HDD/11/40000000:SATA(0,0).
It's seems strange to me that the AHT shows 2 different errors, and yet the Genius' "advanced " tools find no errors. Thankfully, I will return this one (eventually) get a new unit. Thanks to everyone for helping. --Peter
