Retina Pro Screen Making Cracking Noises

So i used to have a pretty heavy plastic case that snaps on to my macbook pro unibody to protect it, however i took it off and instead replaced it with a carbon sticker just to prevent scratches. But now ever since i took off the plastic snap on case (about a month ago) my screen has made random cracking noises just sitting there on the table after a while of use. Also when i move the screen back and forth or open the display from closed, it makes sort of a creaking noise and sometimes just little cracking noises. Could the hinges or screws be loose? I'm worried i'll take it in and they won't be able to hear it since it's not exactly reproducible or loud in a noisy store.

I can understand the reluctance of opening the MBP up because I had the same inhibitions when I tried it the first time.  To take off the bottom panel is not difficult.  There are 10 screws (probably of two lengths which you should keep a track of) requiring a #00 Phillips diver.  When all the screws are out, there may be a snap fitting in middle of the panel requiring you to 'pop' the panel off.
If you look in your users manual, you will find instructions for removing the panel.  In essence, this mewans that Apple thinks that the user can perform this operation.
Ciao.

  • My macbook pro is making cracking/splintering noises inside

I can't see anything on the outside- it sounds like glass cracking.
It's still working though. Is it safe?

  • Macbook Pro screen glass crack repair

Wife picked up her open Macbook Pro with Right hand on base and Left on screen. Suddenly, the point beneath her thumb cracked. She had AppleCare and called for help. They were very polite and informed her that it should be covered...but that it was up to the person in store. Then they warned her that some were nicer than others.
I took it in for he and ran into the wrong person, who made a point of repeatedly telling me that it was his decision. He explained nothing until he gave me an estimate for an absurd amount to get the screen completely cut off and replaced. When I expressed my dismay, he repeated that it was his call. I left and have lived with a cracked screen, unhappy wife, and disappointment in the Apple system.
Please. Please give me an option before this thing spreads too far.

what other options are you looking for?  The screen needs to be replaced. And AppleCare was wrong.  AppleCare specifically states accidental damage is not covered.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while. The fan no longer works at all and my computer gets exceptionally hot almost instantly when I turn it on. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

You can try a SMC reset:

  • Color Laserjet Pro M277dw making weird noises when printing

Hello Everyone, At my office we bought the Color Laserjet Pro M277dw printer last week, and since then everytime we print, the printer makes really weird noises. We checked inside but everything inside looks to be okay . Here you have the link with an audio I recorded with the sound it makes. Thank you very much and it would be great if you guys could help us to find a solution! Best, Lorena

Grinding can only mean physical damage to the printer.  You need to isolate the sound and replace the part to resolve the problem. The good news is that this is a new printer and will be covered by the warranty.  Contact HP directly and have them run you through the options.  It shouldnt cost you anything, but you do need to contact them directly.

  • My macbook pro screen has cracked.

How can I get a replacement screen in Abuja, Nigeria. Though its working now, I want to change it before it grow worse.

If you do still have a warranty i would try to go to an apple store and try to get it fixed, if it is not cover under any apple care plan or does not have a warrenty, then i would try to fix it as a DIY (do it your self) project. you can find replacement screens on eBay or other bidding sites... wish you luck.

  • MacBook Pro fans making excessive noise?

So here's my problem: I play Minecraft on my 13" MacBook Pro (2011), and whenever I do, the fans start up.  For about 5-10 seconds, everything is fine. Then the fans start running (excessively loud) and the laptop becomes very hot. I know a lot of people's MacBook Pros have noisy fans, but is there any way to keep the laptop cool while doing tasks on my laptop (the fans usually start going while playing Minecraft or doing work for long periods of time.)? Would a cooling pad help? Is there any way to stop the fans from starting and heating up?
    Thanks!
    - Alex

Have you done an SMC reset? That can sometimes effect the fans running: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
When the fans are going full tilt, bring up Activity Monitor, and see if there's a particular program or programs that are driving high CPU usage.
Confirm that your system thinks it has 4GB memory, and that some didn't fail.
Check your print queue to ensure that there are no print jobs that didn't complete printing. OS X can put alot of effort into trying to reprint them.
    That's just a few ideas ...

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If yu can't turn it off, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try again.
If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and service is required.

  • My Retina Macbook Pro is making this weird noise

My recently purhcased 2.7 Retina Macbook Pro has made this noise a few times from awaking the computer from sleep. Does anyone know what it is?

How do you turn them down or off? I don't even know how they turned on to begin with. They have never turned on before and I've had my Mac Pro for 3months. I just turn my Mac off it starts doing it again when I turn it back on

  • Macbook Pro 15" right fan making strange noise

I have a mid 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro, 2.3 Ghz with 8 GB of RAM running 10.9.4.  About 3 days ago it fell on to tile floor from about 10 inches off the ground and hit the floor at a 45 degree angle.  There was no damage except for a small scratch near and under the charging port.  Everything was working perfectly until a day ago when I noticed the right fan was making a strange high pitched humming noise.  It's very quiet, I can only hear it when there's no other noise but it is extremely irritating when I can hear it.  Other than the noise the fan works fine, it speeds up when when the computer gets hot, and in Temperature Monitor nothing gets hotter than it should be.  The computer works completely fine, but I'm wondering what could be making the noise.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Right hinge making a cracking noise

Ugh. Here we go again. I'm wearing myself out and the rest of my family and friends, but I bought my Macbook Pro (2011-12) 13" model with Disk Drive and I've had countless issues with the hinge making unusual noises. It went from popping, to creaking, and now when I close it the right side makes a peculiar cracking noise as if sand is caught between the body and hinge plate. There obviously couldn't be sand in there, because I've checked it countless times and have never taken my Macbook around sand of any sort.
Does anyone else have this problem? I've taken it in twice and I feel like I would wear them out a third time with the same issue.
    Thanks

When you get to the repair shop, ask your questions to the repair tech.

  • I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. suggestions to complete backup please?

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.
