Retirement of SharePoint Online Tags & Notes feature

Hi everybody,
Our Company has a challenge after the "Retirement of SharePoint Online Tags & Notes feature" was announced. The big question is: What should we use instead of the
Noteboard? We use the Noteboard under e.g. News Article Page Layouts.
I get the feeling that we can only use the Newsfeed as a Web Part in a Page Layout but we don't want to change this again when the
Newsfeed will be deprecated and Yammer will be the standard...

Thanks in advance!

Good topic. We use Yammer as MSFT will eventually make it default social platform. Yammer need to improve a lot and not their yet in terms of authentication and credential sharing.

  • Sharepoint Online Tag Profile empty

    Hello there.
    We have been facing the following problem in Sharepoint Online.
    We have created a document library and populated it with documents. For each document we have added some tags. We have also enabled "save
    metadata on this list as social tags" in the library settings. Furthermore we created a tag cloud webpart on the home page of the site.
    The tag cloud populates fine, that is, the tags are displayed correctly.
    However when clicking on a tag, we are taken to the tag profile page. The tagged articles are not displayed as expected that they should.
    Tagged articles are only displayed under the "popular within past 60 days" link. When clicking the "All" link, we get a
    message saying "There are no available items tagged with <keyword>"
    What's weird with this, is that it used to work and it somehow stopped a couple of days ago. Articles that were indexed a couple of days ago are shown under the "All" link. Any other article we tag is not shown.
    Any ideas on how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
    We are having a similar issue in that the tag cloud appears but when anyone of the tags in the cloud is clicked, we are taken to the
    my_site/tagprofile.aspx?termid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX page but we just get the message
    There are no available items taged with #tagname.
    Clicking the Popular within the last 60 days doesn't return any results either.
    I've set both the timer jobs in Aditya Gandhe's response to run every 10 minutes and they are completing successfully.
    Can anyone suggest anything else?

  • Sharepoint Online Can not edit anything in Sharepoint designer as Site collection administrator

    Dear all,
    I am using sharepoint online and sharepoint designer 2013. Things were working fine but one day it suddenly stopped working. I have assigned site collection administrator to several accounts and I tried on different computers. I can not edit anything in
    sharepoint designer 2013. Can not edit workflows, can not edit lists. Everything seems to be bugging out. I have reinstalled sharepoint designer and tried on different computers, all of them behave the same. I checked on all accounts I assigned site collection
    admin to, they all have full control over everything. I can edit lists on the sharepoint site with no problem. Anyone knows what's going on?
    I also created another blank site, same thing happens.
    -Timothy

    Are you able to edit site in IE?
    Try below:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/namkh/archive/2013/04/18/quot-the-web-site-has-been-configured-to-disallow-editing-with-sharepoint-designer-quot.aspx
     One straight forward way of doing it is from the UI (Which did not work in my case though :(  )
      1.  Right-click the ONET.XML file ( at \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\SiteTemplates\<var><Service></var>\xml) for the site definition and open it with Notepad
           If you see “DisableWebDesignFeatures=wdfopensite” section in the one.xml that means your site has been configured to disallow SharePoint designer.
          You can remove this section from the file and should be able to access the site in designer now
    2.   If you are unable to get rid of “DisableWebDesignFeatures=wdfopensite” or find the correct onet.xml corresponding to your site definition, here is a simple script I put together to see if Designer is disabled on the site using the property
    vti_disablewebdesignfeatures2 and update it as required.

  • SharePoint Online workflow not starting

    Hi All,
    I am an administrator for a company and I have been asked to create a workflow for them.
    I created 2 workflows using SharePoint designer 2013. The 2010 workflow works as expected.
    I created the 2013 workflow because I can use loops. However the 2013 workflow doesn't automatically start when an item is created. but works if I start it manually. I have checked and made sure that the check box is ticked for the workflow to start automatically.
    The workflows go like this.
    Step: Query Type
     If Current Item:Query_Type equals Phone
      Set Status to Opportunity
     Else
     If Current Item:Query_Type equals Email
      Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
      Pause for 0 days, 0 hours, 15 minutes
      If Current Item:Follow_Up equals No
       Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
    Step: Rental or Not
     If Current Item:Rental equals Yes
      Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
      Pause for 0 days, 1 hours, 0 minutes
      If Current Item:Quote_Sent equals No
       Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
      Else
      If Current Item:Rental equals No
       Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
       Pause until Current Item:Date to Send Quote
       Email Current Item:Sales_Rep2
    And the 2013 one goes like this
    Stage:Follow Up
     Loop: Email to manager
      The contents of this loop will run repeatedly while: Current Item:Follow_Up equals No
       Pause for 0 days, 1 hours, 0 minutes
       If Current Item:Follow_Up equals No
        Email Current Item:Manager
     If Current Item:Follow_Up equals Yes
      Set Status to Opportunity
    Transition to stage
     Go to Rental or Not
    Stage:Rental or Not
     Loop: Escalation
      The contents of this loop will run repeatedly while: Current Item:Quote_Sent equals No
       Pause for 2 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes
       If Current Item:Quote_Sent equals No
        Email Current Item:Manager
     Loop: Escalation
      The contents of this loop will run repeatedly while: Current Item:Quote_Sent equals No
       Pause for 7 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes
       If Current Item:Quote_Sent equals No
       and Current Item:Date to Send Quote is greater than Current Item:Date to Send Quote
        Email Current Item:Manager
    Transition to stage
     Go to End of Workflow
    If this makes sense? If not can anybody give me advice on how to get this working the way it is expected to work?

    Hi,
    From your description, After you modified the workflow and added "App Step" to it and "Pause" actions apart from few other modifications, you got the issue that
    SharePoint 2013 Workflow not starting when a new item is crated.
    Whether you got the issue Before you modified the workflow.
    I have done a test in my SharePoint 2013 and it works fine.
    I suggest you update SharePoint to the latest CU.
    Here is an blog similar with your issue, you can use as a reference:

  • Sharepoint 2013 on premises Tags & Notes button in List and Document library is disabled.

    Hi,
    In My Sharepoint  2013 on premises  installation Tags & Notes button in List and Document library ribbon is appearing as greyed out.
    I have checked that managed metadata service, User profile services are running. Also have given required permissions to the logged in user.
    As I came to know that Tags & Notes feature has been retired in Sharepoint online. Is this happening because of same reason as I have downloaded the Sharepoint 2013 on premises version recently or do I need to change some settings.
    Please advice.

    Hi Saurav,
    pls check below
    What version of SharePoint 2010 "SP 2010 Foundation or SP 2010 Server" you need to have SP 2010 server and to have the "User Profile service application".
    How do you configure the "User Profile service application" did you add the "Social Tagging Database"
    Create, edit, or delete a User Profile service application (SharePoint Server 2010)"
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721052.aspx
    When you access to "Application Management>Manage service applications>User Profile Service Application>Manage User Permissions" validate if the all authenticated users Group have the "use Social Features" checked.
    Also validate in Central Administration in Farm Features if you have social tags and notes activated.

  • SharePoint Online and Open XML

    Hi,
    Using OpenXml I can generate word documents in SharePoint Foundation Sandbox just fine. However uploading the solution to SharePoint Online does not seem to be possible as DocumentFormat.OpenXml.dll is not allowed (due to problems with remoting).So is it
    possible to use openxml in sharepoint online or is there another way to generate word documents programmatically in sharepoint online? thanks.

    According to this post: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/154/p/15363/70842.aspx#70842
    OpenXML is not available in SharePoint Online. So is it possible to programmatically create reports from a list (word etc.) in SharePoint online programmatically or is this atm impossible?

    Hi,
    I need to create high trust provider hosted app for SharePoint Online. provider hosted would be not going to host in Azure but it will be some where else.
    some kindly provide step by step that how to create High trust app for SharePoint online but not for SharePoint 2013.

    check this link
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/fp179901(v=office.15).aspx#Intro
    A high-trust app for SharePoint is is primarily intended for use in an on-premises environment. The high-trust
    app cannot be installed to Microsoft SharePoint Online, and the remote components are typically installed on premises, too, within the corporate firewall. Thus, the instances of the app for SharePoint are specific to each individual company.

    Hi,
    In SharePoint Online 2013, we can use jQuery to convert “&lt”  to “<” and  convert “&gt” to “>”.
    The following code for your reference:
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(function () {
    $(".ms-rtestate-field").each(function(){
    var $this = $(this).find("p");
    if ($this.length>0) {
    $this.each(function(){
    $(this).html($(this).html().replace('&lt;', '<').replace('&gt;', '>'));
    </script>
    We can also use JSLink to customize the display view.

    PT-BR
    Olá Pessoal , estou tentando criar um aplicativo hospedado em um servidor de domínio próprio (provider-hosted) . Ao rodar o aplicativo localmente pelo visual studio  eu consigo obter {StandardTokens} e todos os seus parâmetros: "AppContext",
    "AppContextToken", "AccessToken", "SPAppToken" .
    Ao publicar o Aplicativo no sharepoint online 365 e instalar o app em meu site e executar o app. Os parâmetros não passados via query string e nem por resquest form.
    Em minha query string vem apenas os parâmetros: SPHostUrl,

    SPProductNumber,SenderId

  • Sharepoint Online: Find an Item box is not finding all items in a list based on keyword search

    I am using SharePoint Online.
    I have a standard SharePoint list with a "Name" field (single line of text) and a "Description" field (multiple lines of text).  The Find n Item search box is present as expected, and works very sporadically.  For example, I
    have an item with the word "white" in the Description field.  Searching for "white" doesn't find the item.  I have a number of items with the word "vending" in the Name field.  Searching for vending returns some
    of the items, but not all of them.
    I have gone into the list settings (Advanced) and reindexed the list.
    Here are two screenshots that illustrate the issue.  The first is unfiltered. The second shows a filter on the word "vending".  Note that some are found and some are not.

    Any idea what's going on?

    I am also experiencing an issue with the find. If not the same issue David is having, I suspect it is related, so I will describe it here.
    I created a list based on the Contacts content type and within a standard list view, entering values in the "Find an item" box will match content of some columns, but not others. The four columns that the find misses are Position(renamed from Job Title),
    Email Address, Mobile Phone, and Years Of Service (a Numeric column I added to the list). I too have re-indexed the list and retested after several hours.
    Full Name and Email Address are both native columns of the Contact content type and both are Single line of text. I am able to filter the list by finding partial matches on Full Name, but not Email Address.

  • Value does not fall within expected range in client object model SharePoint online

    Hi,
    I might be missing something, at least i hope so because I don't see it anymore.
    Yes, I used the search, and yes many had the same error, but I think my problem has to be something else.
    It is not size related but more context related i think.
    I've build a function to break inheritance on folders and libraries for several document librarys to implement a crud matrix.
    The thing is, it works sort of. The function takes a list and foldername. If the foldername is null the
    inheritance on the list is broken and the group is given the roles as provided.
    If a foldername is given, i retrieve the folder, break the inheritance and set the new permissions for the given group.
    The problem is: The second time the function is called with a foldername it breaks on the getItems for querying the folder.
    It is not folder related, becaus changing the folder order gives the same problem on another folder.
    I already tried creating a new clientcontext and a new list variable but i cant get it to work.
    I cant get into the server logs because im querying SharePoint Online.
    var list = GetList(clientContext, "Listx");
    AddPermission(list, null, company_Groups.Beheerder, RoleType.Contributor, clientContext);
    AddPermission(list, null, company_Groups.Projectleider, RoleType.Contributor, clientContext);
    AddPermission(list, null, company_Groups.Constructeur, RoleType.Reader, clientContext);
    AddPermission(list, null, company_Groups.Tekenaar, RoleType.Contributor, clientContext);
    //Montagepartner
    AddPermission(list, "Folder2", company_Groups.Montagepartner, RoleType.None, clientContext);
    AddPermission(list, "Folder1", company_Groups.Montagepartner, RoleType.None, clientContext);         <----- is where it breaks
    AddPermission(list, "Folder3", company_Groups.Montagepartner, RoleType.None, clientContext);
    AddPermission(list, "Folder4", company_Groups.Montagepartner, RoleType.None, clientContext);
    private void AddPermission(List list, string folderName, company_Groups group, RoleType roleType, ClientContext clientContext)
    //MsOnlineClaimsHelper claimsHelper = new MsOnlineClaimsHelper();
    //using (ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext(ctx.Url))
    //clientContext.ExecutingWebRequest += claimsHelper.clientContext_ExecutingWebRequest;
    //clientContext.RequestTimeout = timeOut;
    if (!list.HasUniqueRoleAssignments)
    list.BreakRoleInheritance(false, true);
    list.Update();
    var principal = GetPrincipal(clientContext, group.ToString());
    var role = GetRole(clientContext, roleType);
    // Add the role to the collection.
    //var collRdb = new RoleDefinitionBindingCollection(clientContext) { role };
    if (folderName != null)
    var query = new CamlQuery();
    query.ViewXml = "<View Scope=\"RecursiveAll\"> " +
     "<Query>" +

    "</Eq>" +
      "</And>" +
      "</Where>" +
      "</Query>" +
      "</View>";
    // query.FolderServerRelativeUrl = Path.Combine(list.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl, folderName);
    ///This is where it breaks, the second time the function executes on a list with another folder name
    var folderItems = list.GetItems(query);    <----- is where it breaks
    clientContext.Load(folderItems);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    ListItem folder = null;
    if (folderItems.Count > 0)
    folder = folderItems[0];
    folder = list.GetItemById(folder.Id);
    //if (!folder.HasUniqueRoleAssignments)
    folder.BreakRoleInheritance(true, true);
    folder.Update();
    RoleDefinition roledef = clientContext.Web.RoleDefinitions.GetByType(roleType);
    RoleDefinitionBindingCollection roleDefCol = new RoleDefinitionBindingCollection(clientContext);
    // .Add(roledef);
    roleDefCol.Add(roledef);
    folder.RoleAssignments.Add(principal, roleDefCol);
    folder.Update();
    else
    RoleDefinition roledef = clientContext.Web.RoleDefinitions.GetByType(roleType);
    RoleDefinitionBindingCollection roleDefCol = new RoleDefinitionBindingCollection(clientContext);
    // .Add(roledef);
    roleDefCol.Add(roledef);
    list.RoleAssignments.Add(principal, roleDefCol);
    list.Update();
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();

    Hi,
    What if you execute the AddPermission method once a time, will the error still occur or can your code works out the expected result?
    As the program breaks in the GetItems() method, to narrow down this issue, I suggest to comment the other lines of code which has no relationship with the items retrieving, then debug your project to see whether the error will
    still occur.
    Best regards

  • Rich Text Editor functionality for a DIV tag in a publishing page in SharePoint online

    Hi,
    We are having a requirement where we need RTE behavior of SharePoint 2013 Rich Html Field for a custom DIV. The scenario goes like this:
    1. I have a publishing page
    2. I dropped the content editor web part and to that content editor web part I will point to an HTML file that needs to be rendered in that content editor web part
    3. I have one DIV in the above mentioned HTML files and I want that div to be editable and I need to RTE options for that DIV.
    How to accomplish the above behavior?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to create html rich text editor for a DIV tag in a publishing page in SharePoint online.
    You can create your own Rich Text Editor.
    Here are some great blogs for your reference:

    Hi Christoph,
    From the article you mentioned, it needs add JPG file type to Search Service Application, which was not supported for SharePoint online.
    I tried to add Picture content type to normal document library and tested the issue, it still displayed as item in Search results.
    However, if I created a Picture Library and add Document content type to it, both image and document can be previewed in search result.
