Retouch/Clone problem

I have a couple of black and white images (grey scale color space) that I imported as TIFF files into A2. These are old family photos that have some dust spots etc that I want to remove. But on these particular photos I can't get Retouch (or clone) to do anything at all. They act like they're working but nothing in the image is changed. However the Spot and Patch tool will work on these images/files.
Anyone know why?

I just scanned in a bunch of old photos (grayscale TIFF) but when I use Retouch the scanned image gets inverted and shows up as a negative. The retouch works but I can't figure out how to get the image to revert back to a non-negative.
If I toggle off the Retouch checkbox in Inspector the image returns correctly, albeit minus the retouches. Note the Preview image does not show up as a negative.
If I edit using PS CS3, it exports as a negative TIFF. I can then use PS to invert it back to the way it should be with the retouches intact.
Question is - why does Aperture 2.1 Invert when using the Retouch tool, and bigger question, why isn't there an Invert tool in Aperture? It has an Invert Selection, but that's not the same thing.
Are others also having this problem?

For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr??

Tv-out clone problem

hi!
I recently re-installed my entire computer. the problem is that I can't watch movies when the settings are set to clone mode anymore. I can see my desktop but the media player screen are black on the TV.
(I haven't installed any service pack yet though... )

I managed so solve the problem.
I believe that I set the television as primary screen and then re-installed the driver to the monitor.
Not sure though... went back and forward so many times that I kind of lost myself...
main point is that their is a solution.=)

Clone problem

The clone tool has acted different over the last week, after I alt/click and move the cursor, the whole picture moves with it, I have reset the tools, no luck, it's still the same, it's not the space bar or shift causing it. Help!!!

I clone every week using SD! and have never had a problem. I clone to a LaCie 160GB drive, formatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled. As I remember it, it took a couple of hours (and this was a long time ago, so I might be way off) to clone about 30GB of data. Since then, of course, the backup times have been much less, since it only backs up changed data.
You might want to try reformatting your external drive, and then try cloning again.

JRockit 1.4.2 array clone problem

JRockit 1.4.2 throws an IllegalAccessError on array cloning code produced by javac
-target 1.4.2. This seems to be the same problem as Sun's bug #4750641 (fixed
as of 1.4.1_01). JRockit 8.1 works okay. The problem also occurs with code produced
by a current version of IBM's jikes compiler.
To reproduce:
public class a {
public static void main(String[] args) {
new int[10].clone();
When compiled with "javac a.java", it works okay. When compiled with "javac -target
1.4.2 a.java", JRockit throws an IllegalAccessError.

I can confirm this problem. We are working on a fix for the next service

Retouch Adjustment problem

I wonder if anyone can help me.
The Retouch feature in Aperture 2.1 can be used once but when I try to access it again, because I forgot to fix something, it won't allow me to re-enter the Retouch feature.
Does anyone know how to re-use the Retouch feature in Aperture?

I don't see a description of what happens for you when you say that it won't let you use the tool. Do you mean, only once for a session? Or once per photo? Does the tool's icon disappear from the toolbar? Or does nothing at all happen?
How much RAM do you have installed? I ran into problems a week ago with using the retouch tool I don't recall now what happened but I filed a bug report with Apple right away. I never heard back from them but didn't think I would. I think it may be a RAM issue for me. After the problems I had (Sorry it's been a busy couple of weeks so my brain's too frazzled to recall details.) I refrain from using the retouch tool for more than a couple quick touches. Then I switch to another image and come back for another quick touches. If any more retouching is needed, I will edit in PSE.
Maybe if you gave a description of what happens and whether the problems happen after using Aperture for a while, it might help me to remember whether my experiences are similar. Or maybe others have the same experience. If nothing else, I hope you will at least file a bug report with Apple while you remember the specific details. I had a few hundred portraits to touch up and thought I'd get most done in Aperture while waiting for my PSE6 upgrade to arrive. I'm all done with the portraits in PSE so I'm back to using Aperture for a spot or two without any problems - that's why I think it was a RAM issue - no lengthy sessions these days. I did quit Aperture and retouch would work for a while, but I just don't think it was stable with more than a few heavy retouch images per session.
Wish I could help more, but I'm exhausted again today and came to ask a simple question myself. I'll look to see if I posted here or another Mac community about it.

Carbon Copy Cloner Problem: Can't see my Macs HD when selecting Target Disk

I cannot find an answer anywhere on the net, so I'm trying the trusty Apple Discussions forums. Using Carbon Copy Cloner, I backed up everything onto an external HD and I erased everything from my G5 and reinstalled the software it came with. I then also reinstalled Tiger OS X and now, using CCC, I chose all the original backed up volume from my external HD as my Source Disk, but when I try to save them back onto my G5's HD, I cannot see my Macintosh HD under CCC's Target Disk options. (Note: I recently did exactly the same thing with my iBook using CCC and I was able to see the iBook's HD under CCC's Target Disk options without any problems).
More info: I'm trying to do an Incremental backup, though I tried the "Backup everything" option too (which, incidentally, would defeat the purpose of erasing and reinstalling) just to see if my Macintosh HD would show up under the Target Disk, but it still didn't.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get my Macintosh HD to appear under my Target Disk options on CCC. Thx.

Please help! Clone problem

Hi, i'm new to java, so please forgive me if i ask a stupid question...
I try to do the following in the Node of a Linked List:

But since clone() is a protected method, it will not compile... Is it possible to make a linked list that would accept any class type AND would return a clone of the data (instead of just the reference)?

What I meant is,
Lets say you are defining your own class whose instances will be added to the linked list. you can implement your MyClonable interface in your class, and everything works perfect. Noe lets say you need to add instances of a class where you can no tchange the source of the to implement your interface. What would you do, adapter pattern brings one solution. Lets say you need to add String instances to the linked list, you need to write an adapter class

so when you need to add it to your linked list, you create an instance of CloneableStringAdapter with your String and add it. when you need to retrieve it, you retrive the cloned CloneableStringAdapter intance and get the String value from it.
The problem is, as the number of classes you can make change to increases, the number of these adpater classes increases as well. So this wont be very useful unless you can keeop the number of adapter classes low.
Hope it clarifies little more.

Retouch Tool

Is it just me or does the retouch tool not work very well at all.
Iv watched the tutorial videos and it all seems as simple as photoshop, but when i do a retouch on say a pimple on someones cheek (so plenty of surrounding skin of the same texture to sample off) i just get a blurred dot?
When i turn off 'automatically choose source' it improves and looks relatively good enough i suppose. But not as good as photoshop.
Also 'detect edges' has never worked for me, gives me that annoying blurred dot again right across the edge.
When i do this in photoshop its a dream, automatic samples are spot on, and because i can do a selection edges arnt an issue at all either. However id rather not have to export to photoshop for every image i need to spot heal. (ie: exporting 30 photos of the same person with a pimple is not a quick or streamlined process).
Am i doing something wrong?
I did a photoshoot of a bodybuilder a while ago with some bad chest acne, and it took me weeks to export each photo to photoshop just to do a spot heal on a few pimples. (100 photos) if i gave him the resulting photos from aperture healing he would have pumbled me cause there would be big blur dots all over him lol!
It nearly did my head in...
This is realy the only thing i dont like about aperture at the moment, but i searched and found no one else having this issue so thought maybe im doing something wrong?

In THIS particular case, I would suggest lowering the opacity (start at .8 and see how it looks) to allow some of the original texture to remain...
In my experience, the retouch/clone tool takes practice and experimentation before predictable results are possible. All of the tool options work together and trial and error will help you reach the level of comfort that you have with the PS tools. For example, I have found that the "detect edges" process works best when the edge is almost at a 90º angle to the path of the cursor...otherwise its kinda lame...but useable.
So, I don't know if my post will be helpful, but I have found the tool to be quite useful for my needs (portraits, commercial), but only after practice and experimentation. In any case, it is MUCH faster than round-tripping to PS with all that entails....

CS5 or Pc Slow performance?

Hi there,I have a problem with my pc at work and because I am not quite sure in which one is exactly the problem I decide to ask you.The pc is intel pentium 4 with 3 Gb Ram XP professional service pack 3 Photoshop CS 5.
The pc is connected to server(data base).When I open a bunch of photos (20-30) approximately 8 - 12 MB each one and sometimes I experience a slow performance(for example I am trying to retouch/clone something and it takes a lot of time for the pc to redraw/respond) the interesting part is that it doesn't happen always(sometimes can be even 3 photos and it will take ages to do something) also I notice that after appr. 20 minutes it's suddenly start to work as it should normally(it's like there was an update and when is updated/complete everything is fine).When that start to happen today I restart CS5 and load the same photos and it work fine, so it is really bizarre for me.I put a 89% ram usage to the CS5(I pretty much use only all the time Photoshop and bridge ) also made the history steps to 7 and the cache to 6 for big and flat files.I was checking the Efficiency and it's all the time 100 % so it's like it's not the photoshop but like I said today i just restard the ps and upload the same photos and got fix...I tried to copy the photos on my hard drive(so it should not be affect of the performance of the server but still the same as when I take them straight from the server.Because the hard drive is only 80 gb ( I don't store anything there ) i did clean up and disk defragment still the same situation.Do you know what can be the problem and is it the Photoshop or the Pc?I'll appreciate it.

Could be that your PC is sometimes looking to check things on the server, and maybe the server or network is busy/bogged down and you PC gets caught in that cycle mess.....so,
suggest next time you use Ps, set win performance monitor perfmon.exe or perfmon.msc ; setup to view graph of disk use and network activity and cpu usage.....then you may see/track a problem area.
on win7, task manager does most of the same stuff

How can I load one photo at a time from Documents into the Firefox Photo Album. Using Vista ome Basic

select the head with one of Photoshop's selection tools
When doing this, I find it quite helpful to create an intermediate image with a transparent background that contains only the head to be pasted into the second image. First I paste the head onto this transparent background, scale it, rotate it or skew it to make it fit into the other image, adjust the lighting, then select it.
To be able to paste the head seemlessly into the second image (and without aliasing effects), I make the border of the selection soft (⌥⌘D); my Photoshop has a german interface, so I am not sure about the english localization, this command must be something like "selection -> modify selection -> soft border".
I would not bother to get the lighting and color excactly right in Photoshop, that is far easier with the "dodge" and "burn" brushes and color adjustments in Aperture.
To do this completely in Aperture, you would have first to combine both images into one (for example by creating a book page), then use the retouche->clone tool to stamp the head from one image to the other. I use this occasionally to stamp a face into a flower bud or for similar effects. However, for this to work you need a plain background and nearly circular shapes to be pasted.

MacPro 1,1 Bootcamp will not boot my SSD?

I picked up a Crucial M4 256GB SSD to replace my existing Bootcamp Hard Disk for my MacPro 1,1 (2006).
I used Casper 7.0 to clone my Windows drive to my SSD, so far all good (I've used Casper before to do the same task without issue).
I even made sure I got my Crucial M4 SSD firmware updated to the latest rev 0009 (it was 0002).
So I boot my MacPro and hold down option, I see my new SSD (Windows) and select it for boot. I get the usual screen flash, wait a few seconds, and the cursor in the upper left corner of the monitor. Now the bad part, the blinking cursor never goes away ... just sits there (for hours) and never boots into my Windows SSD.
I don't any errors, nothing at all, just a blinking white cursor (underscore character) in the upper left corner.
Anyone else having problems boot to SDD with Windows on it? I don't know if this is just a Crucial M4 SSD problem or if it's any SSD? Is it due to MacPro 1,1 generation?
Any hints or suggestions or am I just out of luck?

Window boot drive is in Bay 4. After the clone process I remove the HD that works fine from Bay 4 and slide in the SDD to Bay 4 ... so it's using the same drive bay.
Pretty sure it's not a clone problem (tried Acronis also) as I've used this same software before to clone HD to HD and my MacPro booted fine into them. I'm not even getting to the point where it tries to load Windows ... it's stuck at a white cursor (underscore character) in left upper corner of monitor.
I have a call out to Crucial to see what/if they have any comment. I'm thinking that my MacPro is SATA I and that this SSD is SATA III/II and hence doesn't support SATA I -- wild guess at this point as I thought SATA II and SATA III were supposed to be backwards compatible with SATA I.
Is there any way to get into the Apple EFI32 ROM?? Is "holding down Option" during boot the only process ... are their any other special key sequences that can be used during boot? The SSD shows up when I boot into OS X and also shows up when I boot into Windows, just can't seem to boot to the SSD.

Web ADI error

Hi,
We have changed the BNE: Upload Staging Directory profile path as we were getting empty excel sheets when we were exceuting FGS reports and after chaging this profile path the users were facing the below error when they are using Web ADI
Fatal Error: Please have your system administrator view the bne.log.file. java.io.FileNotFoundException(The Network path was not found)
When I asked my DBA if the provided path in Production is a valid path then he changed the path again and asked to clear the browser cache and test the issue again. After clearing the browser cache when users tried using ADI they are getting Empty Excel sheets.
User has the Internet explorer setting and Excel setting properly.
Kindly let us know if we need to verify any other settings or profile options.
Any help is much appreciated.
