Retreiving mail causes me to have to re-type my password on mac

seems like i have to retype the password for my pop mail account on my macbook every 5 min.
i checked the box that says "remember this password in my keychain"
yet still when the iphone retrieves the emails, a pop up window on my macbook appears askin me to retype the password again... quite annoying... anyone know any fixes?

My guess is that Mail is not closing the TCP connection to the POP server after it checks mail. The POP server won't timeout for at least 10 minutes (if it follows the POP3 spec (RFC)). This means other clients, such as on a Mac, can't check mail, and the message they seem to offer up is "password rejected" or similar.
Whether this is the true problem or not, I've found that if I kill Mail on the iPhone (hold the Home button for 6 seconds) or Sleep the iPhone then the server gets the message to recover and accept new POP connections.
(I also found that if I check from the Mac, get the spinning disk next to the account name, and then make the iPhone check again, the Mac will immediately be permitted to use the POP server and then the iPhone will follow. Of course, at this point the server is again locked waiting for the iPhone to close the connection, and I'll get the spinning disk again on the Mac if I try checking mail there.)
Beautiful hardware, but more software bugs than I have time to fight. Close to returning the phone for 6 months...

Try deleting the account from the iPod and reentering the settings. It is easy to make an error and notbe able find it.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

A number of people have received similar messages in error. However their email doesn't usually get blocked. If you have confirmed that it is indeed blocked by sending yourself a test message, you will need to contact Support.
If you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:

You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee. You should insist that this is a problem they have caused and you shouldn't be charged.

Mail causes Finder/Dock to hang

Immediately after updating to iTunes 9.0.2 (25) I find that opening Apple Mail causes the Dock to refuse to open, and the computer (MacPro, early 2009, OS 10.6.1) must be rebooted to access any Finder functions.

Did you also run repair disk from your software install DVD? That is not the same thing as permission repair.
If you have done that and it did not help, rebuild the mailbox(s) in the Mail application. Then try trashing a couple of preference files and restarting.

Did you try deleting the mail account, then adding it back? I've read a lot of times that is what needs to happen in order for it to work properly.

I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.

First, select sender(s) as VIPs. Then the VIP category will appear.
To select a sender as a VIP, open an email from that sender, then hover over their name and a star icon will appear to the left. Click the star, and that sender will be set as a VIP (and the category will appear in the pane on the left).

Hi, my wife has 2 different .me e-mail accounts. She uses one of them on her old mac-mini, that account was .mac and then updated to .me, and so she sends and gets mail there. Now she a new mac mini and she is using her second .me account on the new mac but when I try to open (create) other it won't let me. In other words she wants both of the accounts to be on the same computer (the new mac mini) since she wants to to sell the old one. To migrate your phone to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep on the phone, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; your other devices won't be effected by this), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted . Then sign back in with your new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data to the new account.

Thanks for the quick read and response. Do you feel the issue might lie with the fact that it is a Mac Mini? And possibly just not powerful enough to run Leopard Server? I have to say in our trials with MacPro it was like night and day as to how they performed. And if you could elaborate on this "Many VPNs don't play well with NAT so your VPN server should have a direct connection to the public network (preferably firewalled, of course, but not NATted)." Most every SoHo and for that matter uses simple NAT translation for security even our multi thousand dollar Cisco PIX and ASA's are basic NAT devices to start with. How would you put the VPN on public net while keeping the attack surface low for the rest of the services like file, web, mail and print?
Don't get me wrong I want this to work more than you can imagine. We are so tired of supporting MSFT technologies that cost thousands a year in antivirus, antispyware, antispam and other malware protection for the enterprise. We know that Leopard has great potential but for an integrator, getting this system up and functional is not an easy task. And the worst part of it is every time we have called for support the tech always lets out a sigh when they hear we have run standard setup because they are not allowed to walk us thru the server console to make repairs. And have been told by 3 techs so far that this is a new product and the support avenues are not there for standard since it just supposed to work out of the box. But when it doesn't then ohh well. Which is sorta sad...

thank you for your reply, it is not very fair from apple, since for not using your credit card, you need to create a new account and if you do not have multiple e-mail working , you are stuck! thanks anyway
