Retreving  old apple IIGS disks on new intel mac

Looking to read old 3.5 floppy prodos 800KB, using the intel mac. Tried the USB Floppy Drive, but it can not read 800. Does anyone in this discussion group have any ideas? Got a couple from another group but still haven't found an answer.
All Thoughts are Welcome....

Hope you have solved your problem already.
Otherwise:
1)IF you have a lot of disks-and IIGs-you can transport the files via LocalTalk to an older MAC(up to G3,Ethernet connectivity included).
All info for that here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=555734&tstart=0
2)Instead of using floppies from that older Mac you may connect this Mac to your Intelbook and use Filesharing to transport all files this way.
You will find all info you need either by visiting the older software/legacy-networking or older hardware forum, or post back.
I own a running IIgs/(IIe also) and used to transport files from there over SE to PC by 800k-floppies from IIgs/IIe.
As Denis Eddy would say: The problem isn't only transport/read but also to translate the contents( say Appleworks GS) to the modern world. If Appleworks is an object, you may try "Peggy" on the search for info.
Good luck

If they are the old clear globe speakers that worked with old G4 models, then no.

  • New Intel Mac mini: Is 1G Ram Enough?

    Hello everyone.
I intend to get my dad and my sis (upgrade from her old iMac G3) each a new Intel Mac mini Core Solo.
I understand that the new Intel Mac mini shares the ram memory between the processor and the "in-built" graphics... also understand from an Apple KB docu that it is best to pair the same ram to maximise efficiency or something...
My dad will be mainly in iPhoto, organising his digital photos, burning CDs and touching up a bit here and there; And both of them will be using mainly to surf, email, chat, maybe a bit of word processing etc - I would say "light to moderate work"
So is 1Gb of Ram enough for the processor and the graphics? I would probably try to max out as big a hard disk for them... and a 19" monitor...
    Thanks and cheers

If he can afford it, I would recommend putting 2-1G modules in there. OS X loves RAM and will call for even more running apps under Rosetta.

hi, i changed my provider in the icloudwindow appears the old apple id. with the new apple id, which is working, will not accept. what i have to do?

    Actually you always use ethernet..
MBA does not come with ethernet port.. but apple sells both a cheap usb to ethernet and a much more expensive and much faster thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. With ethernet to eliminite this silly situation of setting up wireless over wireless, so if you make any change you instantly drops you off the network. Like cartoons of people sawing off the branch they are sitting on.
But you can reset.. no reset will do anything at all to the material on the hard disk. You must deliberately erase it.
Read the info because you may only need to do a soft reset. That is hold the reset for 1sec (2-3sec is fine)  as long as you don't hold it for a full reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Even a full factory reset will not harm your files in any way, (or any further!!)
I am "concerned" that you have no backup to vital files on your TC. That is not wise. TC are no more immune to failure than any other hard disk.. (actually latest ones use the cheapest green WD drives money can buy) and keeping files in only one location is a receipe for disaster. An external drive is much more accessible.. cheaper and tend to be more reliable. There are too many things to break in the TC.. it is designed as a backup target for TM. Not a file store.

  • Is there anyway to transfer my money on my old Apple ID to my new one? please help (:

so I made a new Apple ID because i forgot my security question on my old Apple ID. but I had just redeemed an iTunes gift card on my old account and it doesn't let me buy music. so is there anyway to transfer my money on my old Apple ID to my new one?? I tried to gift it but it won't let me. please help! (:

You need to contact Apple to get the questions reset. Click here, phone them, and ask for the Account Security team, or fill out and submit this form.
Contacting Apple is also necessary to get the money moved if it's possible at all, and it's probably better to have them reset the questions.

  • Can I sync purchased/merge/move apps from an old apple-ID to a new one?

    Hello all.
I have been using an apple-ID, which I have been sharing with my family, for about two years now.
Now I want to have my own apple-ID, so that I can have fully control over it myself, and so that I can use iCloud on my own apple devices and not on the whole family's!
The problem is, though, that I have purchased a lot of apps on that old apple-ID, and I do not feel like buying all of those apps again on a new apple-ID - that would be a waste of money!
So, is it possible to sync/merge/move/share those purchased apps from the old apple-ID to a new apple-ID?
Of course I can keep all of the apps on my devices, but then again, it would be very unpractical to purchase and update some apps with the new ID, while I still have to update other apps with the old one.
    Any solutions?

"So, is it possible to sync/merge/move/share those purchased apps from the old apple-ID to a new apple-ID?"
    No.
    Sorry.
Apps will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased, and will always have to be updated using that account.

  • I can't update the purchases I made with the old Apple I.D. How can I sync my old Apple I.D. with new one?

    I can't update the purchases I made with the old Apple I.D;
how can I sync my old Apple I.D. with new one?

Only the Apple ID used to buy an app can update an app. Apple does not merge Apple IDs and Apple does not transfer content biught with one ID to another ID.

    Restopre from backup
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Also,
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

  • If I replace my old Apple ID with a new one, will I get my purchased apps?

If I replace my old Apple ID with a new Apple ID, will I get back all my purchased apps in app store?

No. The purchase history is tied to your iTunes store account.
Maybe there is a different way to achieve your objective. Why do you think you need to change your account name?

Log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version of the account so as to 'refresh' it on it.
