Retrieve Adobe CS5 from Time Machine

My computer was recently stolen. On my TimeMachine I have my copy of Adobe CS5: Design Standard. When I open the application there, though, it returns Error 6, and directs me to uninstall and reinstall Adobe CS5. The disc, however, was also stolen. What can I do? I have the serial number. I am on a Mac.

  • How do I retrieve iphoto library from Time Machine when the Mac doesn't have enough memory

Is there a way to retrieve (or view) specific photos from iphoto library when it resides in Time Machine? The iphoto library file is much bigger than the free space available on the Mac; erasing unneeded files may not free up enough space if the library must be restored as one entire transfer. It would be easier if I could restore only pieces of it. Is there a way to do this?

Not from Time Machine which is backing up only a file, not its individual contents. Either you restore iPhoto Library or not.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Get an external hard drive on which to store some of your files after which you can
erase the data from your internal drive to free up space.
      5. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      6. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      7. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Retrieve ipad files from time machine

I have a number of files on my ipad that are stored in time machine.
Is there any way to access and retrieve these without totally rebuilding my ipad?

It depends on which files.  If they are files that can be transferred to the iPad by connecting to iTunes then you can copy the files from Time Machine to your iTunes file sharing then transfer the files to your iPad:

  • How do you retrieve individual files from Time Machine?

If a file original is lost or becomes corrupted, is there anyway to retrieve that individual files from Time Machine? If so, how?

Time Machine finds that file, and not other files that meet the criteria. BUT...
That's not what TM was doing. My search criteria was "by filename", however when I try to go backwards in TM, that limit is lost and it appears to be returning every file in the rolled-up weekly archive. This is especially odd, because I have since determined that the file was actually corrupted before TM was running, so there should be only one version of the file in TM's archives.
No, it was a file sitting on my disk. Email was mentioned, because the fact that every email in every junk folder appears as a separate item to be restored, which is what triggers that little "too many files to show you at one time" issue.
So your name search returned lots of junk mail items. I shudder to think what the file name was that you were searching for! <g>
Also: you can tell Time Machine to ignore your junk mail if you've filtered the junk mail in Mail into a different folder/box.
I figured that one out. I had used Spotlight to find the junk mailboxes, but couldn't, only the messages "labeled" junk. I had to use 'find' in Terminal.app to actually find Mail's junk & spam folders.
Yeah, it's hard to find stuff when you don't know where it is <g>. In general, though, for these kinds of things, always think: "Library" which is where SO many pieces of programs are stored. Of course, there's lots of Library folders, so your first job is to decide: system or user level? Realizing more than one user account could have email setups, you can assume the path you need starts at the User level. So, you start at Home[UserName]/Library. Scanning that Library folder, you see a Mail folder (aha!). Checking out that folder, you might first suspect the Mailboxes subfolder, but you'll soon see that it has the mailboxes you've defined for sorting your mail; so, you continue to scan the Mail folder and you see a folder with your email address on it (or multiple folders, one for each of your emails). Open one of those and, ta da! You see something labeled junk.mbox.
You've already found your Junk mail, of course, but I'm suggesting this as a general approach, especially for other readers of this thread, who might not want to touch Terminal.
But, back to one of your initial problems: TM seemed to lose your search criteria. Do you think it was related to the high number of " hits"? Does it work for you otherwise, when you search for something less general?

  • Retrieved old app from Time Machine, but iTunes won't see it

I'm running 10.6.1. iTunes 9, iPhone 3.1. I'm trying to revert to an older version of an app. I retrieved the older app from Time Machine and I can see it in Finder in my iTunes/Mobile Applications folder. iTunes doesn't see it though. Is there a way to make iTunes see it?

I just discovered that I have to import the reverted app's file into my iTunes Library (File -> Add To Library). Nevermind.

  • How to manually retrieve mail messages from time machine in Lion?

I just did a clean reinstall on Lion and want to import things from time machine piecemeal.  As far as I know, in order to access the mail documents on the computer's hard drive, in the Finder I need to go to Go-->Go to Folder... and then type ~/Library.  Then I have access to the "Mail" folder with the data.  How can I access this folder that's on my external harddrive?  I don't have the "Go" function and I don't know how to get there manually.  My hidden files are shown.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The best way to restore mails is to use Time Machine.
    1. Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Disk, select the external disk and see > http://pondini.org/TM/E3.html
    2. Open Mail and open Time Machine. Navigate and restore the mails you want

  • Cannot retrieve old backups from time machine

Two weeks ago I brought my iMac to the apple store for the hard drive replacement program.
I backed up everything before bringing it in and deleted most of my data.
When it came back, it looked exactly the same as how I brought in. (Most things were deleted.)
I tried to restore one folder to test out the function, and then I was off to work when I saw the files transferring.
After I finished work, the files finished transferring but when I go back into time machine, all my recent backups were from today and my previous backups were all gone.
Is there any ways to retrieve my old backups?
Some of my important files were only stored in this external hard drive...
    Thank you...

    Wimek,
According to this KB article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1760)
"When upgrading from one Leopard-based Mac to a new Leopard-based Mac, and you wish to use Time Machine backups from the previous Mac, make sure the computer name of the new Mac (in Sharing preferences) is the same as your previous Mac's computer name was when its Time Machine backups were made. Afterwards, if the previous Mac is still on your network, give it a different computer name."

  • App to retrieve iOS Notes from Time Machine backups

I am looking for a suggestion for an app which will retrieve iOS notes.
I deleted some notes around November, and want to try to retrieve them.
My thought is that given that I backed up my iPad  to my Mac, I could recover my iPad backup from last October and extract the notes?
Some of the apps out there let you extract material from the *current* iOS backups on your Mac. But I want to extract the notes from an old iTunes backup, which now only exists on my Time Machine backup.
So some of the apps have a UI which presents all of the current backups in the window and you choose the one you want. I need an app which lets me browse to my time machine backup drive and select a very old backup (no longer on the Mac or in iTunes).
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

You can restore one or more of these ios backups from your Time Machine volume, perhaps restoring them to an external drive or a special folder, and then there are various programs that can work on those files from your hard drive. Another one (which is a bit expensive but does work) is Dr. Fone wondershare

  • Help: cannot retrieve old files from Time Machine backup on new computer!

I backed up my old Macbook Pro for several months. I've got a new Macbook Pro and I succeeded to restore the last content of the old one using the migration assistant.
However, now I need some older files that I know are in the backup, but I can't restore them because you apparently can only do that with the computer from which you made the backups... a Time Machine backup is 'tied' to the sparsebundle using the MAC-address of the computer...
I don't have my old computer anymore, does this really mean that all the old file in the backup are lost for me? Or is there an other way?
    Please help.
    Wim

  • How can I retrieve a photo from Time Machine?

My husband needs pictures he had stored under his profile.  I deleted everything due to space limits on the Macbook Air, but everything was backed up through Time Machine 1st.  Now he needs those pictures and I cannot figure out how to find them and restore them to my computer.  When I try, I get a message that says I don't have enough space to restore entire library.  Please help.  I just want to find the darn pictures that he needs and bring them back. I'm so confused and I want to go to sleep soon.  Thanks!

Were his pictures in the iPhoto library?
If so, quit iPhoto, open the folder containing the iPhoto library, then open Time Machine.
If not, just open the folder where he had stored the photos, then open Time Machine.

  • Retrieving printer files from Time Machine

In the matter of trying to print to a Lexmark Z1480 from 10.5.4, does anyone know what files should be retrieved from backup?
Just thinking that because I could print when using 10.5.3 maybe I could replace the present files in 10.5.4 with the previous ones which enabled printing.

This question was obviously a no-go so I'm marking it as 'Answered'.
In point of fact, Lexmark support was able to fix my connectivity problem. The solution was to specify an open firewall while installing the drivers, then returning the firewall setting to normal.
Thanks for any suggestions over the past months (which are probably forgotten!)

  • OS 10.5.8 Leopard. Recovering old data from Time Machine after HD replacement.

Okay, I have and iMac dual core Model A1224, EMC 2210, 20" screen, 2.66GHz processor, 2GB RAM, came, when I bought it, with a 500 GB drive circa late 2008. The drive started to fail about 2 weeks ago, random shut downs, wouldn't boot up, couldn't find the OS. Could sometime recover booting up from the original OS disk in the C drive, but eventually even that failed. Had run disk first aid and TechTool Pro6 to no avail, they all passed the drive so it was a mechanical failure, not bad sectors.
REPLACED the drive with a brand new Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive, figured I was all set, Time Machine had backed up the old drive every day since 2009 to an external 1TB drive. I could even see the data there. Now new drive is installed and I need to load the OS to it and retrieve my data from Time Machine. Put in the old disk, Leopard 10.5.1, and walked along and asked it to bring in the data from Time Machine.... except, the data is saved on Time Machine in a new version of Leopard, ver. 10.5.8 and so the 10.5.1 version can't import it, but of course Migration Assistant will allow you to import it later.
So, I continue to load the OS via the disk, then go to software update after creating a new computer name, which I didn't want to do. Updated the software so I am now running OS 10.5.8, open Migration Assistant and attempt to migrate / recover the old data from Time Machine. I can get some stuff, but it insists on my resetting everything up all over again, all new accounts in Quicken and Thunderbird and Microsoft Office, no recovery of data already there and I can't access the accounts that were set up by others, it indicates I don't have sufficient privileges though I was an Administrator on the old computer and on the current system as well.
Frankly, I need that old data, so how do I get it? Do I bite the bullet and upgrade the system to Snow Leopard OS10.6.XX, will that allow me access to old data under OS 10.5.8? Will it be backwards compatible? How about moving up to Lion? Would that be a better way to go and will I be able to recover that old data then?
VERY frustrated here! Thanks for help or direction you all can provide.

  • Restoring safari bookmarks from time machine

Somehow bookmarks in one of my Safari bookmark folders got deleted in the course of attempting to move the folder. When I go into time machine to restore an earlier version of my book marks time machine does not display the contents of the caches folder where I understand the Safari bookmarks are kept, i.e. ~/library/caches/metadata/safari/bookmarks..
Is there a way to get time machine to display contents of the caches and metadata folders? If not, is there another way to restore an earlier version of my Safari bookmarks? I have separate backups on external drives in addition to the time machine backup.
    Thanks,

EDIT (copy from above response in thread)
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.
