Noah FYI, it was free software Apple gave to MobileMe users for backing up. It stored backups in proprietary formats & makes recovering your files a pain…

Thank you all for your contribution.
After testing and debugging I found that when they move their database from one server (server2) to another server (server1) the database still using the old name (server2) which you can findusing this script:
SELECT @@SERVERNAME
so the replication can't retrieve information, unfortunately for me it is difficult to rename the server because it sis development server so they need to make analysis about side effects if we renamed it.

WD SmartWare 2.4.11. Retrieve backup.

Hello, I have installed WD SmartWare 2.4.11 on my computer and using My Passport Ultra as external target backup drive. I have performed the first backup. In a natural course of operations, I have created&deleted a few files, moved files and folders elsewhere, etc. and my aim is, if a fault happens on my computer's hard disk, to be able to restore the files as they were before the fault.Unfortunately what I have noticed is that, if I select "retrieve all files" tab on smartware, all the deleted and moved files are being copied as well. If I select "retrieve some files", I can see the deleted files/folders crossed-out or greyed out. This way I could select what files to retrieve (ie all the ones *not* greyed or crossed out) in order to restore the . But this is an endless process, as I should go through all the folders. Is it any way to do that? Thanks

Hello ERmorel, thanks for your reply. I have posted an idea following your link. With the latest smartdrive release, what is the purpose of keeping all the files (deleted/moved) in the backup? When it comes to retrieve (restore) them all in the original position back on the computer where the backup was taken, this is causing so many unecessary files and folders to put back where they shouldn't. I backed up my laptop with LaCie and a friend then had it stored in cloud. Now I cannot backup again with LaCie as it cannot find latest disc.
What should I do?

If your friend backed up to 'the cloud', meaning an online service other than Apple's 'iCloud', you will have to go to the documentation or Support for whoever is running that particular service to find out what to do.

IMac cannot retrieve backup

something terrible is happening.
i have written zeros to my drive and now, as i have done in the past, i am trying to restore from the last backup before erasing my drive. the time machine drive (a "G Drive" external) is on my desktop, and according to the "info" panel in the install disc's "disk utility" there is 29GB of information (which represents my last backup), but i cannot restore this information, preventing me from reincarnating my computer. i have restored from time machine in the past, but for some reason i cannot access the over 770,000 files listed on the drive. it seems a crucial pathway between the iMac and the information on the time machine external drive is missing. i have tried "setup assistant" and even "restore" in disk utility by dragging the time machine drive icon into the "source" pane and the OSX icon into the "destination" pane. this looked promising, as the install window showed there were over 770,000 files to restore, with an estimated time of one hour. after it finished, and the blue progress bar was at the end, it suddenly changed to "estimated time...49,710 days, 6 hours..."! SHEESH!
is there a way to retrieve the data on the external drive and reinstall at least some of my data (address book, iPhoto and iTunes, mostly)?

no, it was definitely the icon for the drive. what i am wondering is if it was the wrong drive icon, as there are two. the top icon is the representation of the actual drive, showing its capacity, and the second icon below it (contained within the first, i would guess) showing its contents...in this case "OSX", which is what i had named it. the install disc shows up below the two hard drives (internal and external), and the icon for the Optiarc drive. what i need to figure out is how to "retrieve data files" as suggested by the Apple help, who i may have to phone shortly.

Does iTunes backup each piece of equipment into a separate account? When I retrieve backup for my iPod I get the backup for my iPhone.

I have 1 iPod touch, 1 iPod 4th gen, 1 iPhone 3GS, 1 iPad, and 2 iPAD2's on my account. Is there a maximum number of units that you can have on 1 account. Also how do backups work? Do they all backup to 1 account or do they backup to separate accounts for each unit. When I do a software upgrade I wind up with info from my iPhone on my iPod despite not letting it synch.

Did the system drive survive? You could get try to remove the drive from the mac and have it put into an enclosue, so you can use it as an external drive.
But if the system drive is dead as well, I do not see a way to read the data on your dead computer.

Problems retrieving backup from Time Machine, Case-sensitive HD

Hello.
I'm trying to manually retrieve the information I got in a Time Machine, but for some reason I kept getting an error saying that there were files that were going to the same location were named in the same way. After checking a couple of things I noticed that, somehow, the external HD was Case-sensitive, so I'm assuming that, instead of +File, File 01 File 02+ it's sorted out like +File, file, filE+, and since the computer's HD is normal it's having a conflict with those file names.
That being said, is there a way to fix this? What I'm trying to move is an iTunes and iPhoto Library, "probably" iTunes could be done manually, but in iPhoto there's over 10 GB of pictures and I'd probably take a looooong while to fix it manually.
Any work around?

It's just letting you know that the original file, on the System HD, still exists and wants your permission to over write the original file with the TM file. Backing up your System HD to TM should not have changed any of the original file names. If TM had changed the Case when backing up from your System then TM Restore would have duplicate these files/folders without even asking you.
That being said, is there a way to fix this?
Yes. After you have restored the files/folders that you want to keep you can reformat the TM HD. Or try one of my tricks which is to just reformat the free space. Use the Mac OS X Extended (Journaled).

Can I retrieve backup with no iPhone?

When I had my iPhone I would periodically do a manual backup to iCloud, but one day I lost my phone and now use a Motorola RAZR. Is there a way I can get them restored to my Mac? The two things I care most about are Podcasts -- made by hand, not downloaded -- and photos. My Mac had photos in iPhoto and Podcasts in iTunes, but on the night where I was intentionally formatting my hard disk, the backup I made to an external FireWire drive was toasted (long story) so the Mac's files are gone. (File recovery not possible.)
I don't see any relevant options in iPhoto or iTunes. Is there a way to do this?

Retrieving backup from PC Suite 4?

I recently got a new Nokia phone (6233), so I wanted to install my backup of the phone book and Internet addresses from my old Nokia 6510. However, those were stored with PC Suite version 4, and the file format of the backup (*.ncc) cannot be read by my new PC Suite (version 6).
The backup files seem to be simple text files - so my question is: Can I simply change the file suffix to something that would be compatible with Version 6? And what would that file suffix be?

I would not do that, instead I would change the ncc extension to .csv and open the file with excel and notepad and copy-paste most important content like contacts+ tel.numbers manually with PC Suite's NOkia Phone Browser/Contacts Editor to phone.
Clumsy, but at least you get the info to your phone.

Erased backup for imac and can not retrieve purchases thru apple for upgrades of lion, leopard

can not retrieve backup or time machine information for imac which was upgraded from os x 10.5 to lion & snow leopard thru apple store. I somehow erased everything including recovery disk and when i try to upgrade it says that my imac version is too old and needs to be upgraded to implement the new version. However, i can not redownload any of my previous purchases or even rebuy because it my imac is back too old version.

Snow Leopard would have come on install disks, not via a download from the app store. So do you have the disks? You need to install that first before you can download/install anything later such as Lion. If you don't have the disk, you can buy it.

I've tried for 2months to switch over to my new 4s, but every time I enter my apple ID to retrieve backup from icloud. I'm informed no back up available.

As you backup the iPhone in iTunes, it overwrites the last backup. Files are kept as they are changed, so that would explain how you get different dates in your backup folder. The only backups that are saved and not overwritten are the ones done just prior to a restore. You do have the option to go back in time on a Windows computer, however depending on the last time you set a restore point in Windows, it could be back further than you are willing to go.

Time Machine on Timecapsule: Backup error / Write Protected Sparsebundle

suddenly, really suddenly, there is a message "time machine can't access the backup-image, error-search can't be done by this computer, please backup your data (haha) and format your drive" and there is another message "image is write-protected". (it's not matching the exact message, though i'm on a german os)
but i can access time-capsule and write data on it through finder. i've got this problem since this morning. i'll backing up my sparsebundle-file to another folder on timecaspule and wait for a solution.
if the problem will not be solved by itself, i will delete the original bundle and replace it by the copy and see what happens next.

I have been having the same issue for 3 weeks now. Unable to complete backup. A network problem may have interrupted the connection between your computer and the backup volume. error. I've upgraded and downgraded the firmware. I've connected wirelessly and Ethernet. No dice. I've unplugged the TC and restarted. Same error message. I can see the TC in Airport Utility. Everything looks right in the settings. I have Disconnected USers from the airport disk and tried backing up...Nada. I can access and retrieve backup files through Time Machine no problem. I want to associate this error with the latest System Update, but I'm just not sure. More people are talking about the firmware causing errors rather than the system update. I will probably have to call Apple Support I guess.

Is there any changes in server or network setting?
Is it working before or its a new setup?
There are many reasons of SQL server connectivity issue. But refer a small checklist that helps to find out the real cause of connectivity issue.
1. Check SQL services are running
2. Check SQL Browser service is running
3. Check remote connections are enabled
4. Network connectivity between database & application servers by TRACERT command
5. Check TCP/IP protocol enabled at SQL server
6. Check talent connectivity – telnet <IP address> <port no on SQL server running>
7. Check UDP port 1434 is open or not on SQL Server
8. Check firewall is running or not Check
9. If firewall running, SQL Server & UDP port must be added in exception in firewall

Windows Updates stopped SBS Console and BAckups

Hi,
I have been appointed at this company after they had moved location and it looks like since their move some windows updates were installed and now the SBS console is not working, I cannot view event viewer I get access is denied (5)and the sbs email is showing
cannnot retrieve backup settings.
I need some help with this. All the backup have been overwritten apart from one backup file which the old staff copied onto an external drive from December.
I am really stuck with this and cannot fix anything has anyone else experienced issues with sbs console i get a .net framework error 1026 under application saying

Based on your description, I understand that you encounter the SBS console and backup file issue after removing some Windows Updates. Would you please check whether be able to re-install those Windows Updates, then monitor the result?
Please open Services panel and check if the Windows Search Service ran as normal. In addition, please follow the path: C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Logs and check Console.log if find more clues.
Please run SBS BPA tool and check if find some relevant issues. Please also refer to following TechNet article and check if can help you.
Repair the Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard Console
