Retrieve from cache or server: what is Firefox's logic

I clicked on a hyperlink to visit a web site that I had not visited for a couple of months. Firefox showed me the page as it was when I last visited it.
I pressed F5 and the page updated to the latest version.
I don't seem to have this problem with other websites; just this one.
Does anybody understand the logic Firefox uses when determining whether to display a page from the cache or to get the latest page from the web server?
Using Firefox 10; Windows XP

Thank you cor-el. The first link mnot is particularly useful. But what I have learnt is that caching is a black art. The logic is influenced by the browser logic, the browser cache size, the web servers caching rules and the html on the page. Impossible for the user to control; very difficult for the web page author.
So even if I were to understand Firefox's logic it would not help me much.

  • OLAP-Cache filling and report retrieval from cache

    Dear All,
I am expecting good information from you guys in regards to process of OLAP-Cache filling and retrieval process.
Let's say, we have few selectios as below to fill cache.
    selection 1:
    Calmonth : 201006
    Plant : A1 to A3.
OLAP cache is filled with the above selection1.
    Selection 2:
    Calmonth : 201006
    Plant : A4 to A5
OLAP cache is filled with the above selection2.
When I am exeuting a query with the selections as below, how the data will be retrived? Is it from Cache memory or DB?
Selection: Calmonth 201006 and Plant A3 to A4.
Would be really Appreciate If I get some valuable information.
    Regards,
    KS

    Thanks for valuable information.
I have used the mode as "Persistent Cache per Application Server" and " Transparent Table (BLOB)"
What I am realizing here is, If the query selection is different from the cache selection, it is reading it from DB though the requested data is availabe in cache as per the below eg.
    Cache Memory:
    Selection1: Calmonth : 201006 and Plant : A1 to A2
    Selection2: Calmonth : 201006 and Plant : A3 to A4.
    Query Selection:
    Calmonth : 201006 and Plant : A2 to A3.

  • TSQL Retrieve from linked Oracle server

We're porting an Oracle system to SQL server and it's not going well...
Our system is a data warehouse that extracts data from an Oracle operational system. In the Oracle version we use database links to access Oracle. On SQL Server we've created a linked server. All OK so far.
When we try to access the linked server in TSQL we have problems:
    - select on a four part name does not pass filters to Oracle and our tables are huge
    - OPENQUERY works fine but won't let us pass parameters
We therefore seem to be stuck when we want to update SQL server using a single keyed access to Oracle (SQL retrieves the whole table and then filters; we're processing 20,000 records and this is not acceptable!)
I would appreciate any help you can give; I've spent most of the day searching the web for examples where people have this working, but got nowhere... help!
    Thanks in advance

Have you tried configuring Oracle Heterogenous Services/ Transparent Gateway? This would let you link Oracle to SQL Server via a database link which should solve your problem.

  • OA Page is retrieving from Cache.

    Hi,
I have imported one OA Page to the database metadata but later realized that I have imported it to a wrong folder in database metadata. I deleted that document and tried to import document in the correct folder but getting the following error:
ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified
    ORA-06512: at "APPS.JDR_MDS_INTERNAL", line 1928
    ORA-06512: at "APPS.JDR_MDS_INTERNAL", line 2018
    ORA-06512: at line 1.
Interesting point is that I can still access the deleted document from the Apps Environment. Just thinking that Apps must be picking this up from some Cache but unable to locate the cache. Apache bounce has already be taken by DBA.
Could someone please let me know the location of this Cache in middle-tier ? and point out why my import statement is getting error out in middle-tier.
    Thanks,
    Sumit

    Hi,
I guess you need to bounce the middle tier to clear the Page cache..
Ask your DBA to bounce the middle tier.
    Stop the instance

If you're using Glassfish and the APEX Listener (or OHS) then images referenced using <tt>/i/</tt> / <tt>#IMAGE_PREFIX#</tt> are stored on and retrieved from the web server file system. If using EPG then they're stored on and retrieved from the database using the XMLDB repository.
If the image is referenced using <tt>#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#</tt>, <tt>#APP_IMAGES#</tt>, or declarative BLOBs then they're stored on and retrieved from the database.

i put the machine to sleep for an hour or so. got back on line and can't access the forum threads. i get a window that says:

    you have chosen to open

what should firefox do with this file?
    * open with [browse button]
    *save file
    do this automatically etc
    ????????????

I don't know much about samba, but I have had very similar problems with netbios in windows, I find it to be very unreliable and I think you would be better off with ftp, but that's just my opinion. Apart from that, are you sure you have the necessary ports opened, and so do they? And you might need a line in /etc/hosts.allow

  • Retrieving documents from cache server using Bapi_Document_Checkoutviewx

    Hello,
how can I retrieve the documents from cache server instead from content server, which are stored in SAP R/3 system.
I use the bapi "BAPI_DOCUMENT_CHECKOUTVIEWX" in a Rfc-Client Programm to retrieve the documents. This BAPI retrieves the documents allways from content server and don't use the existent cache server.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Retrieving Reports from Cache

    10gAS 9.0.4.1
    Reports 9.0.2.0.3
    First Issue:
I am trying to reuse reports from cache. I have caching turned on in my rep_<server>.conf file, and the following entry in my cgicmd.dat file:
    rep17: report=<report name>.jsp <parameter>=%1 desformat=pdf destype=cache server=<report server> paramform=no ssoconn=<rad> tolerance=30
Each time I run the report, a new copy is generated in the cache directory. The report returned to me is the new copy. Should the report server not retrieve an earlier copy of the report as long as it was generated within the last 30 minutes?
    Second Issue:
When I run the report URL in Internet Explorer (version 6.0.2800.1106CO), 2 copies of the report output are created in cache. When using Netscape (version 7.2), only 1 copy of the report output is generated in cache. What are the issues with IE that cause two copies of the report output to be generated?

  • Standalone webcache or Web cache from Oracle Apps Server 10.1.2.0.2?

    Hi
I am installing web cache on two servers in web tier and J2EE server (with OHS) on another two servers in apps tier. Should I use standalone webcache or install from Oracle Apps Server package? If I choose Oracle Apps Server package, I have to disable Home, HTTP components. But it is DCM managed. Any suggestions?
And should I deploy my OHS servers on web cache servers in the web tier? In future we want to expand J2EE installation, we will deploy Portal with SSO, OID etc.

  • DirectAccess Server 2012 Configuration cannot be retrieved from domain controller

    Hi everyone,
We are using DirectAccess over Server 2012. There is just one server, no load balancing.
Everything works fine, all clients can connect successfully and operations status page shows all in green. Nevertheless on the dashboard page in the configuration status section it say “Configuration for server [servername] cannot be retrieved
    from the domain controller.”
I found a few hints what could cause this problem:
In my case, the RAConfigTask, a scheduled task, was not enabled on the affected WS2012 server (DA entry point in a multisite deployment). After just enabling it, the errors has gone."
    http://blog.gocloud-security.ch/2013/01/11/ws2012-directaccess-and-the-configuration-for-server-server-name-retrieved-from-the-domain-controller-cannot-be-applied-error/
Group Policy was filtering out my DA server from the GPO object for some reason. To fix, I opened up Group Policy Management on the domain controller and made sure that my DA server was a part of the group."http://www.joedissmeyer.com/2012/12/more-issues-and-solutions-for.html
Server has no connectivity to the domain in order to update the policies. Run “gpupdate /force” on the server to force policy update. GPO replication might be required in order to retrieve the updated configuration.
This could be because there is no writable domain controller in the Active Directory site of the Remote Access server. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverNIS/thread/56fedb17-1274-4e1a-b2d0-fea809f0bc45
I checked everything. Task is enabled and completed successfully, GPO is not filtered out, run gpupdate without any errors, could connect to domain controller, no errors on domain controller, domain controller is writable.
So, I have no idea what could cause this error. Any ideas or hints?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Sebastian

i have the exact same problem i figured out that there was a problem with the logon as a service
secpol.msc --> Local Policies --> User Rights Assignement, Logon as a service i have NT Service\All Services
i can acces the group policy via the cpnsole just fine i have not connectivity issues what so ever.
i decided to open a call with microsoft, their suggestion .... we dont know reinstall so i did and here we are same problem and no solution. it is getting frustrating...

I'm not expert in this area, but I don't understand why you try to read directly the cache as by definition, a cache is managed by the application itself. Why don't you read the document as usually, and let the system read the cache by itself?

  • Client automatically cache the data got from cache server?

    Hi expert,
I have 2 questions about the client local cache. Would you please help to give me some suggestion?
    1. Will client automatically locally cache the data got from cache server the first time and automatically update the data in local cache when getting the same data from cache server again? I go through the API reference but cannot find any API to query the data currently cached in the local cache.
    2. If client will automatically cache the data got from cache server. Is there any way for a client to get the data event that happens to its local cache, such as entry created in local cache, entry deleted from local cache and entry updated in local cache? In my opinion, when getting an entry from cache server the first time, the MapListener's entry create event should be triggered. When getting the same entry again, the entry update event should be triggered.
However, I have tried a client with replicated cache, a client with partitioned cache, an extend client with remote cache and a client with local cache(front cache part of near cache), the client (the NamedCache object has been set the MapListener) cannot get any event notification after getting data from cache server. By the way, my listener is OK since when putting data the entry create event and entry update event will be triggered.
Your suggestion is very appreciated. :)

    Hi
If I were you I would read this http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/toc.htm
and particularly the section about Near Caching here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/nearcache.htm#CDEFEAJG
which is what you are asking about in your question.
Near Caching is how Coherence stores data in the locally - which is the answetr to your first question. How Near Caching works is explained in the documentation.
Events, which you ask about in your second question are explained here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/delivereventsjava.htm#CBBIIEFA
It might be that ContinuousQueryCache is closer to what you want. This is explained here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/queryabledatafabric.htm#sthref38 A ContinuousQueryCache is like having a sub-set of the underlying cache on the local client which you can then listen to etc...
