Hello, ted_marx38.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The most common cause for this issue would be media present that is purchased with another Apple ID.  When prompted to authorize the computer it may show a different Apple ID.  If this is the case, the computer will need to be authorized for this Apple ID.  The article below will walk you through the process of verifying if that is the case or correcting the issue if not.

iTunes says I have authorized five computers so I can no longer play music I have purchased. I have not replaced my computer once. Why does iTunes say this?

    Hey Christownsend,
Thanks for the question. To troubleshoot this issue, you may want to try deauthorizing all computers:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    1. Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    3. Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

    Hey SDGardella,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are receiving error 499 when attempting to download purchases from the iTunes Store. The following resource outlines this error message:

    Hi Harry,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you have installed iTunes on your new computer, make sure you have downloaded or copied the songs to the new computer as well. The steps in this article can help with copying your music to a new computer:

You may also be able to download the past purchases from the iTunes Store:

If you've already copied or downloaded the songs to the iTunes library on your new computer, see if the files are displaying a red exclamation mark next to them. If so, this article can be helpful:

  • My Laptop crashed. I had a full backup on Carbonite so the iTunes folder is there and downloadable.  Is there any way just to import that and have iTunes on my new computer (Windows 7) recognize it?

My Laptop crashed. I had a full backup on Carbonite so the iTunes folder is there and downloadable.  Is there any way just to import that and have iTunes on my new computer (Windows 7) recognize it?

Nothing gets imported.  Simply restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the new/restored computer.
Download and install iTunes from Apple's website.
The first time iTunes is launched, assuming the ENTIRE iTunes folder is restored to the correct location, it will launch and be exactly as it was prior to the comptuer issues.  If for some reason this does not work, close iTunes, hold the SHIFT key while launching iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose or create a new iTunes library.  At this point simply point iTunes to the correct location for the existing iTunes library.

How do I consolidate an Itunes music library on two windows computers onto one windows computer?

Click here, pick the option which best fits your situation, open the larger library in iTunes, move the media files from the smaller one into the library in the open iTunes program window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder, and then import the playlists. Any rented movies will only play on the computer they were originally downloaded to.

  • Itunes is showing i authorized 2 computers when i only authorized 1. how do i fix this?

itunes is showing i authorized 2 computers but i only authorized 1.  iis there any way i can fix this so it shows i only authorized 1 computer

You could de authorise the current computer and reauthorise it to see if that resets it.
Otherwise go into your account page in iTunes store and Deauthorise all computers and then reauthorise yours. You should then just have one computer authorised

I just purchased the new Nokia windows phone.  How do I delete an app that I installed but don't want to keep?

You are welcome! I played with the 928 in a Verizon store and really liked it. Besides the great camera and Nokia Maps, I'd be pretty excited about Nokia Music, too. As I understand it, this free app lets you create playlists from its entire music library, which can be stored on your device to listen to any time.
There are a few members on the WP board who are really knowledgeable about Nokia and WP, so let us know if you have more questions.

  • Sharing itunes purchases between two authorized computers not working

    hello,
i currently own two apple laptops and want to be able to play my music that i purchased on one, on the other, as well. i have followed the instructions in other posts that tell me to 1, authorize the new computer, which i have done, and 2, if that works to go into a folder on my drive and delete it out to start fresh, which i have done, as well. however, when i click on the purchased songs, it is still telling me i need to authorize my computer. the computer, as i said, is already authorized.
    can anyone help with this?

I'm not sure I understand your second step. Couldn't you use the Home Sharing feature in iTunes 9 to accomplish this, as long as it's enabled for each? Both computers should be authorized with the same iTunes Store account, as you've done.

  • HT202213 I'm trying to set up "Home sharing" but i can not get into my old computer because of a virus. The old has Vista and an older version of iTunes. The new has Windows 7. Also this is my sons computer however I have made a new user account for me. H

    I Have 2 issues;
    1.  I can't transfer my iTunes library from my old computer which I can't get into due to a virus. I'm trying to transfer my iTunes folder to my sons computer in which I now have a user account. Old is Vista and new is Windows 7. Therefore home sharing is impossible, right?  Wrong?
    2.  I found my purchases from iTunes on my iPhone 4S. I can't seem to download them. There is no button to tap "download".  Also, I'm unable to sync to iTunes because my phones default is to sync to my old computer which will not open!

Contact Apple customer support, they can reset your authorizations.

  • Prior itunes purchases to new pc

I have a new pc and cannot see my prior itunes purchases. I had hundreds of tv shows purchased and thought I could import after account sign on. Is there anyway to access my prior purchases without having to copy off my other pc?

*I have a new pc and cannot see my prior itunes purchases. I had hundreds of tv shows purchased and thought I could import after account sign on.*
When you purchase something it is downloaded to the computer you are logged into at the time, purchases don't simply appear on every computer you choose to use.
*Is there anyway to access my prior purchases without having to copy off my other pc?*
No there's not. If you want to have your purchases on more than one computer you have to copy them from the computer they were purchased on. There are various methods to copy purchases between computers, CD-R, iPod, USB stick etc, you can read more at this link: iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between authorized computers

  • TIGER 10.4.11 NEED ITUNES 10 FOR NEW IPHONE 4

I just got the new i phone 4. I have 2 macs at home, both running tiger 10.4.11. I know I need the new version of itunes and I was going to bite the bullet and went out and purchased leopard only to then realize that both my macs have 512MB of ram. And leopard requires at least 1GB to be installed.. Needless to say im sooooo frustrated with apple at this point. As an longtime apple customer I cannot believe all the trouble it is to download a FREEEEE itunes update. After calling apple care I was told all I could do was go make yet another purchase for more storage space or buy a new computer!!! Ridiculous! Please anyone help.

I had the same problem. VERY frustrating! I live 5 hours from nearest Apple store which is what customer support told me to do after buying, as you did, the new op system disc and in trying to install it there was not enough room so they said ! I eliminated and backed up photos etc... still not enough. So after doing everything Apple suggested and spending several hundred dollars, Apple suggested I send my Mac in or take it to the store (5 hour drive one way) .... I was ready to return my Iphone 4.
As a last resort, I found a small shop in a town about 30 min away that said they work on Macs. I took it in and for another $120 and 2 days he finally got the new op syst on, but I lost Itunes library and everything else.
But.... he said the reason it shows that there is not enough room is because applications were duplicated, multiple downloads were hidden... well to make a long story short...I got more help from this little shop and I will never buy another Mac laptop or Apple computer again.
During all this.. my new Iphone 4 worked fine on my 8 year old Windows PC desktop but I could not carry around a desktop with me for syncing, etc.
Interesting why an Apple product .. Iphone 4 will not work on a 3 yr old Mac but will work on an 8 yr old PC! I finally got it when the customer support also tried to sell me a new Mac. No way!
Of course, when I bought the Iphone... they failed to mention that you have to have a new Mac for it to work!! This is my 4th Iphone!
I feel your frustration!! I have been there and I will no longer use Mac computers. I have now spent over $350 getting this resolved plus $300 for phone... and did not get ANY help from Apple that worked... it just cost me money. The $120 I spent with the small "unapproved" Apple shop was the only worthwhile expense.

  • Retrieving itunes purchases

hi. i recently suffered a harddrive failure on my laptop. this meant losing my itunes stuff as it couldnt be retrieved from the old harddrive. upon fitting a new harddrive i re-installed itunes and logged into my account assuming it would recognise my ipod touch and bring up all my previous purchases. unfortunately it didnt, it would only recognise my laptop as a 'new computer' and asked me to authorise it, this i did but it now tells me i have '2 authorised computers' attached to my ipod, which i dont and i still cant access any purchases prior to my harddrive failure, plus when the ipod 'sync'd' itself it deleted several apps that werent recognised by the '2nd' authorised computer.
any ideas how i cant retrieve my original purchases from itunes?
    cheers :o)

You don't "retrieve them" from itunes. Your music will only be where you put it.
You get ONE download only. it has always been very basic to always maintain a backup of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use this to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. File>Transfer Purchases.

  • Itunes playlist for new computer

    Hi,
I have a new laptop.  i am not able to access my other computer where my itunes account was originally set up on.  I downloaded itunes onto my new computer.  I authorized this computer.  Only the music that I purchased from itunes is showing up.  None of the music that I downloaded from cd's is listed.  Also, my devices and playlists are not on there either.  Is there a way for me to get this stuff back?

If you right mouse and select Get info it will show you the Apple ID used to purchase these songs.
Usually the name of an apple id is based on the email. So knowing that you may have forgotten the Apple ID password.
You can request a new password here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
