Retrieve Lost Mails (Mac Mail 1.3) on OS 10.3.9

Retrieve Lost Mails (Mac Mail 1.3)?
Is there a way to retrieve lost emails in Mac Mail 1.3 on Mac OS 10.3.9. I came from Earthlink and switched to AT&T. I deleted my Earthlink account because it's already cancelled and is generating errors. I set up my AT&T account after that and was able to send and receive emails.
However, I noticed that my old emails in my Earthlink account are no longer there. Those documents are very important. Earthlink no longer has the emails on their server because I configured the email client NOT TO LEAVE MESSAGES on the server.
I would appreciate your help.

Deleting a mail account causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you you were warned that this would happen by an alert similar to this for Mail 2.x (I don’t know what the exact wording is in Mac OS X 10.3):
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected. For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless — see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may use a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage to try to salvage as many deleted mbox files as possible in the case of Mail 1.x, and as many deleted *.emlx files as possible in the case of Mail 2.x. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.
BTW, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum.

  • Poor mail retrieval success on Mac Mail 8.1 (POP)

I recently set up Mac Mail 8.1 as my POP email client.  My email service is through a webmail account I have with netfirms.com.
When I click "Get new mail"  the activity window says that it is fetching new mail, however it often gets stuck on "preparing to retrieve messages..." with none making it to my Mac Mail inbox.
Occasionally some emails come in, however it is very slow in doing so; 10 - 15minutes after clicking "Get new mail".  additionally, the message retrieval activity concludes after a small fraction of what is in my webmail inbox comes into the Mac Mail inbox; it never finishes the job of fetching mail.
When I click on "Get new mail" again it is hit and miss (more often a miss) as to whether it will bring in new messages or get stuck on "preparing to retrieve messages..."
When I go to the connection doctor my POP account is connected to the server, and I do not get any error messages, so I am at a loss to explain what is happening.  It sometimes works, mostly not, and when it does it is very slow in doing so and has only brought in a very small number of the emails it should.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > the POP account > Advanced tab it will show the port it is trying to use.
Presumably as this works sometimes it a valid port.
However on the web site about how to set it up for various clients does it list other options you could try ?
I would also check the Authentication method as well.

  • Migrated to new iMac - how to retrieve old non-Mac mail?

I have been using an old MacBook Pro, but recently bought a new iMac. I used the me.com iSync (I think that's what it is called) to sync my Mail accounts to me.com, and then to sync with the new iMac. The Mac mail came over just fine ([email protected]) but I had several other accounts set up in Mail on the MBP - Yahoo, a few Gmail accounts, my web site's accounts, etc. None of the email messages came over. I get new emails on my iMac to these non-Mac accounts, but I would like to transfer over the old ones as well. I have tried to click "Get Mail" but it looks like this just gets new mail.
Is there a way on my iMac in Mail to retrieve old emails (including Sent emails) from non-Mac accounts? I keep having to go back to my MBP to find/reference old emails.

Reference Kappy's advice in method 1. I think this would do it for you.

  • Apple Mail - Mac Mail-

I love my new Mac (switching over after 20 years on PC) and love Mac Mail but I have been spoiled by MS Outlook when writing emails. In Outlook it always capitalized the letter of each new sentence, capitalized "i" and auto completed days of the week as you began to type them. Is there a setting in Mac Mail that at least capitalizes the first word of each new sentence or "i"? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, my inbox on my mail server is only 45MB, and I get about 100KB of email a day, but my mail app is somehow transferring 20TB a month to my mail server!!!! It all happens in the background so I don't even notice it going on.
I'm about to get kicked off my host. APPLE??? what the heck is going on?

  • Attachments getting lost on Mac Mail, but not on iPad/iPhone

We use several Mac computers, iPhones and iPads in our business, with GoDaddy as our email server. Emails with attachments work fine on the iPhones and iPads, but we are now losing the attachments on the Mac computers. This has recently happened. Any ideas? Is this a software update issue? I am running the OS X 10.8.3 version.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mac mail broken

    FIX MAC MAIL
Mac Mail just plain fails for me on connections to my mail server.  I spent 2 days trying to make it work, maybe longer. I finally had to move to a 3rd party mail provider.. both Postbox and Airmail connect and work beautifully.  I liked some of the features in Mac Mail and would like to go back to it. But it needs to actually work.
I am familiar with email setup and host my own email server. I'm trying to use IMAP with my desktop mail, but all attempts at connection fail from some reason, either smtp or imap fails, and sometimes it's random.  On trying Postbox and Airmail, connection was automatic and correct and has not failed since setup.
IMO, the connection model for Mac Mail is impaired, and needs some serious attention.

  • Exporting from Mac Mail to Outlook 2011

    Hi,
I want to export all my current mails from Apple Mail into outlook. I am trying to use outlook import function but it doesnot have apple mail/mac mail in its options.
Is there any other way of doing this???

Outlook for Mac has no option to import from Apple's Mail application. The best suggestion I can offer is that you use an IMAP account to transfer your messages.
Get a free Gmail IMAP account from Google and connect to the account in Mail. Drag your messages into the account to copy them to the server.
Connect to the same account in Outlook and copy your messages from the server to folders under On My Computer.
Another option is to get a third party tool that are available online.
One tool that I am familiar with is Apple Mail Export
Or you can find more on
    google or
    yahoo for more results
    Hope this helps!

  • I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again?

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.

Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

  • I lost all email 6months and older in mac mail. Need Serious Help!

I lost all email 6 months and older in mac mail. In my in-box as a well as all other folders I created. I expected that the mac email software would keep all email as it did for me in when I used to use Outlook. As well I thought I was covered with the Time Machine I have installed. Well.....The Time Machine that I was aggressively encouraged to buy apparently doesn't back up email. If it does, I must need some secret decoder ring to unlock where it is. I need serious help. I lost months of professional and personal data. I need to fix this immediately and find some way to get my email back. Please help.

In March when I upgraded to Lion and iCloud I also experienced a similar problem (cluster of problems) which was solved by a password reset (conforming to new requirements) for my Apple ID. I'm glad to see that many nice people contributed and your primary problem is fixed.  My comment is on your Quicken problem.
Your data inside Quicken 2004 is on borrowed time.  In the process of researching personal budgeting apps I found many reports on the web that indicate Intuit as a company is scaling down Quicken (desktop) development and its future attention to the Mac platform will be minimal.
Did you know that Intuit is behind Mint.com?  You may be hesitant to put your financial data "in the cloud" and I may be being sheepish, but.. bbaaaa, bbaaaaa, the cloud is where it's going.  I know first-hand want a pain in the arse it is to customize an app to your liking.  I spent several hours on Mint.com setting up categories and tagging transactions.  It's tedious. I didn't look because I wasn't a Quicken user, but perhaps Intuit was nice enough to provide a data conversion path for Mint.com.  It is worth a look.
My second suggestion is to scour the web for a hack solution.  You can't be the only person who is facing this problem.  Quicken was very popular.  I just bet someone has posted directions or some code for exporting the Quicken 2004 data and manipulating it for something else.
    Good Luck.
    Ellee H.

  • Does anyone know how to retrieve lost mailbox folders and their contents in mail?

Does anyone know how to retrieve lost mailbox folders and their contents in mail?

It might be that you selected "Delete sent mail after a mont (or a week, or whatever)" in Mail Preferences. iCloud account is IMAP, so it won't keep mail in your HD. I have that problem.

  • Lost attachments in Mac Mail ...

I have an email thread (quite a long one). In one of the emails sent to me was an important document, it was sent as an attachment. I am trying to retrieve this document, however, when I go to find that particular message in the thread I cannot click the attachment. The message no longer is in standard format, but rather colored text.
Does mac mail only store messages with attachments for so long? Is there a way to retrieve it? Please Help!!
    Thanks

The problem of "invisible" attachments sounds all too familiar. I am using Apple's "Mail" program ver. 3.4.
Recently, attachments have not always been showing up when the email's file size and the Paperclip icon indicates an attachment should be present. I have found that when this happens, very often I can view the hidden attachment by either going to the File Menu and choosing "Quick Look Attachments", or by pressing the Command and Y keys simultaneously. On occasion, I have had this abnormality occur from the same sender's email account who has also sent other emails with attachments that have shown up.
If this is a known Bug, hopefully the upcoming OS X 10.5.5 update will provide a fix.

  • Mac Mail updated, lost all my emails, iPhone gets emails, iMac doesn't.

    Hi
I booted my mac which seemed to do some kind of update (this was a few days ago) and mac mail was also updated. However it lost one of my email accounts during the process and all my sent items are gone. I can still find them using spotlight but they dont appear in mail anymore.
What is also strange is that my iPhone is collecting new emails from my pop account (set to leave emails on server) but the iMac never picks these emails up. Its like the iPhone is removing them from the server regardless of settings. I disabled the iphone from collecting email but the iMac doesnt get them still.
The account settings seem ok and I can send emails using these accounts.
    So,
    1. Why is my iMac not collecting pop based emails that the iPhone gets from the same account?
    2. How to i put all the sent emails back into Mac Mail from the hard drive? And where are they?
    Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
From what level of OXS and Mail would it have been updating from?
In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail -- is there only one POP account folder related to this account? Open this POP account folder -- do you see the Sent Message.mbox folder? Does it contain only one Info.plist file and one Messages folder?
Were it not for the failure to receive new messages, I would simply recommend to Rebuild the Sent mailbox, but I think more than that might be needed.

  • Archiving Mac Mail for later retrieval

I have several users who insist on saving emails stored in Mac Mail to their local hard drive.  If they drag messages to the local folder, the emails are saved with a .eml extensions.  They can click on the file later and it open and appear as the original email did in Mac Mail.  The other option is some of them use File/Save As to save them to the local drive.  If they don't select "Raw Message Source" when saving, the files saved as Plain or Rich Text.  When that happens, the emails open unformatted in TextEdit.  I have instructed them to save these emails properly moving foward.  However, one of our big wigs has quite a few emails that are no longer in Mac Mail that he saved to his local drive as Plain or Rich Text.  Is there a way to convert those to .eml files so that they open back up in Mac Mail properly.  I know it is not as simple as just changing the file extension.
    Thanks for any help.

No. They are no longer email messages. They have lost the headers and no longer have the structure of an email message.

  • Mac mail help - saved messages gone blank, lost data??

Entire email folders of mine seem to have lost all the content in them - all that remains is the heading detail on the individual emails.
It happens without much consistency -
Sometimes I will use the folder, move messages to it and they will be fine, as normal,
Then later on I will discover that ALL of the messages in this folder will seemingly have lost their data and gone blank.
It makes no difference whether viewing in the mac mail pane or opening the message up directly.
It wont happen to all folders or all subfolders
Is there a safe way of getting the messages back and preventing it happening any more?
I say 'safe' as reading through other similar threads years ago I saw suggestions about rebuilding mail boxes which others then mentioned that it completely wiped their entire mail boxes - the thought of that fills me with fear.
Im running an 2.8 Ghz i5 27" Desktop on Yosemite 10.10.1 - but it has been happening since Mountain Lion at least - Ive had this issue a few times but it seemed to be very limited and isolated, but in the last 6 months Ive noticed it happening to entire folders and I cannot let my records just evaporate like this!
(I run my home-office with it and cannot lose these records and correspondence)
Thanks in advance, distressed and frustrated.
