Retrieve OLD PLAYLISTS?

Need to retrieve OLD Playlists
I recently had a computer tech reinstall OSX for me because it wasn't booting for some reason.
I am using iTunes 4 currently and all the songs in the library still seem to be there. Only one problem, when I asked the tech to get back my last updated playlist settings i think he retrieved an old one and NOT my LAST playlists that I had before I had the problem with laptop not booting?
It looks like I have playlists from around 7 or 8 months ago for some reason? There are playlists that I KNOW i deleted and some that are NOT present that I KNOW I added?
So I am wondering how I can get my old playlists back?
Any help would be very appreciated, thanks in advance!

Just for future reference, the iTunes Library file is a catalog file that tells the iTunes program what song files are part of that particular library and stores metadata about those song files. Playlists are actually one type of metadata that is kept in the iTunes Library file. So, if you don't have a backup copy of your old iTunes Library file (or its "reflection," the iTunes Music Library.xml file, which is not directly used by iTunes but can be used to exchange information about iTunes libraries with other database programs), you won't be able to retrieve old playlist information.

  • I managed to transfer the music from 1 pc to 1 other pc (to be played by iTunes). Bit didn't fixe the transfer of the meta data (for example the rating). Does anyone know how to use your old playlists, etc..(= meta data) on the other PC? So, please help!

I managed to transfer the music from 1 pc to 1 other pc (it is played perfectly on the other PC (Windows 7- pc) by the newly downloaded and installed iTunes, version 10.6.1.7). But I didn’t fix the transfer of the meta data (for example the rating). Does anyone know how to use (or import) your old playlists, etc..(= meta data) on the other PC? So, short: how to migrate the meta data from one pc to an other pc?
It's a pity that it seems not to be possible to import on the new pc e.g. the ratings!!!
I don't want to start again with rating my (beautiful classical) music!

Did you do the move via Home Sharing, astro?
If so, perhaps try the instructions from the following post:

  • How can i sync my old playlist to my new iPod shuffle?

How can I sync my old playlist to my new iPod shuffle?  Everytime I try to sync it I get the little pop up box that asks if I want to transfer and delete what new songs I have already downloaded.....i know it has something to do with sharing music libraries but not sure how to do this....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    You don't.
If you do not have your contacts, then you cannot sync your contacts.
You should ALWAYS maintain a backup copy of your computer.

  • How do I get my old playlists back?  I seem to have only a bunch of "Smart Playlists" which is kind of stupid because the stuff that itunes populated them with don't even meet the crteria of the list! But that's another story.

Against my better judgement, I updated my Itunes software when I got my wife a new Iphone.  Problem is, instead of my old playlists, I can only view a few "Smart Playlists".  In addition, what songs are in them include a bunch of my daughter's music, which isn't even stored in this computer.  So it would seem that somehow my itunes is screwed up somehow.  Does anybody know how to get rid of this "Smart Playlist" crap and get me in touch with my old library and playlists?

  • How Can I retrieve old podcasts I deleted by error?

    Hello,
I uses the last version 7.2.2 on MacOS.
I deleted a few podcasts from an album I subscribed to.
I know that the podcasts I deleted are still available on the publisher's site.
Until version 7.1.... It was possible to retrieve old podcasts again by using the command "retrieve old podcasts" (or something like this) (just below "refresh album in the contextual menu). But it seems that this useful command has been removed.
Is there any way to do it anyway?
Many thanks in advance for any help.

  • In ios 7 I can't see my old playlist of videoclip in landscape view. Anybody know how can I set it?

In ios 7 I can't see my old playlist of videoclip in landscape view. Anybody know how can I set it?

    Hello everyone,
I faced this same issue, but not from updating to iOS 7.
In my case all my music playlists disappeared. In another post I found a process which got them back, but after I'd done so I noticed that my Apps list and my books list were both empty, even though I'd bought plenty of books & apps. The following trick I discovered restored both of these lists.
    1. Within iTunes, select the Apps tab within the library, to show the (empty) window of all your apps.
    2. Now in a finder window, open your iTunes folder. On my computer this is in my Music folder.
    3. Within the iTunes folder, locate and drag the "Mobile Applications" folder into the apps window.
    Presto!!
The same thing worked for finding the missing books, except that the books folder is stored one level deeper, within the iTunes Music folder, and of course I dragged it into the books window.
I don't know if it matters, but I'm still running OSX 10.6.8 because I have use some legacy OSX apps that won't run in anything more recent, but my iTunes version is 11.1.4.
I hope this helps a few people...

  • I lost my music but still have my old playlist, is there a way to see what songs were on that playlist?

Pretty confusing but here we go.
My old mac hard drive died taking the music with it. I have a very special playlist made from that music but I don't remember what tracks were on it. The playlist still exists on my iphone and as I re-add songs to my computer, then to my phone they go right the old playlist on my phone so I know there is a memory of these tracks SOMEWHERE, I just need to figure it out. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • Need to recover old playlists, old iTunes library will not open because it was created by a newer version?

I have a Mac mini, have installed iTunes on it and want to find some old playlists that were lost.  I have several 'iTunes Libraries' with different dates but I cannot open any of them becauseit says they were created with a newer version of iTunes.  Please help!

Somewhere in your process you ended up with an earlier version of iTunes than was used last with the library. iTunes 10.6.3 is the highest version that will run under OSX 10.5.8
    iTunes 10.6.3.25 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
If you had an earlier version and still want that version I am not sure how to go about this.  My iTunes library file does not say it was created with a particular version, although I admit I have not looked at the .xml copy to see if it is buried in the file itself.  Apple only has a very limited number of iTunes versions openly posted, though you can still find just about any version if you look in the right places.  You would have to kind of start low and work your way up to where you want to be since once you open a library with a version it cannot be reverted to an earlier version (make backups first).

  • Mail keeps retrieving old messages

I was wondering if there is a way to set up mail where it stops getting old messages. I am trying to clear up my mailbox but every time I do it retrieves old messages from the server and then I have to clear those out. In addition, the old messages that are added come up as unread so my unread message number indicator on the icon is always high. I want to be able to have a lot of messages in my inbox but I just wish it would stop getting old messages unless i tell it to. Does anyone else have troubles with this?

    Just a curiosity...
POP3 and imap have implemented a 'last' feature. This is a value that represents the last message that the client (iPad mail) has seen from that server.
Sometimes the versions are funky and this 'last' is not implemented or not compatible.
Since this is an old feature (5 years as I remember) most sendmail servers support it. But, well versions and opinions being as they are some people don't use industry standard products and muck up features.
THis isnt all that helpful in solving the issue. But may be useful in diagnosing it.
