Retrieving a lost mailbox

I thought I'd get clever and clean out the mailboxes in my Library>Mail folder, since many are named for Mail accounts I've since deleted or renamed. In the Mail directory in the Finder I renamed a POP folder for one such account to reflect its current address, and to my horror 2 years of personal emails that are precious to me disappeared! It seems that my renaming it wiped out the contents of its inbox and its sent emails! Worse, I stupidly failed to back up before renaming. I tried "undo" but no dice. Can I recover these somehow via the Mac OS? Do I need to buy Norton or some other software to try to do so? Or am I SOL due to my carelessness? I'll be heartbroken if these emails are gone for good.

If you did not make a backup the files and you deleted them from iCloud Drive, they are gone, unless you did not yet empty the Tras on your Mac. Have you checked the Trash in the Dock?
If you deleted them completely, you can only try data recovery software like Disk Drill, but that will be expensive.
If you are syncing another Mac with iCloud, they documents may still be on this Mac, if it has not been connected to the Internet and the changes had not yet been synced to that Mac.

Does anyone know how to retrieve lost mailbox folders and their contents in mail?

It might be that you selected "Delete sent mail after a mont (or a week, or whatever)" in Mail Preferences. iCloud account is IMAP, so it won't keep mail in your HD. I have that problem.

  • I've lost an important email correspondence from 2012. I've heard this could be due to getting new Mac with Mavericks. can any one tell me (how to find out) if this is related? Also, how to retrieve the lost emails in my Gmail? Thanks

    Hello!
I've just been told that "a lot of people have reported the total loss of their e-mail related to the Mavericks (10.9) update.  It appears the update corrupts the email files on your computer and when the Apple e-mail client sees everything is "gone" it wipes the server too (your GMail account)."
I need to recover/retrieve a lost email sent from my GMail account back in sep/oct 2012. can any one help?
I have searched my account the relevant correspondence is gone. I should not have deleted it myself. I've only started using "Mail" for my GMail account last September, so the servers could not have mixed up the Gmail archives, I think. Either way, I'm not smart enough yet to know how to retrieve this correspondence. The lost email is rather important, why I need to investigate all possible solutions.
My gmail settings i.e. POP/IMAP and Filters are as they should, as far as I believe, but yet, I cannot tell how my settings were in 2012, tho I think I've never changed anything personally. In Sep 2012, arounf the time the, now lost, corresponcence took place, I switched to using Chrome, where before I was using Safari or Firefox. I now use a new mac book with Mavericks and browse in Chrome, most of the time.
Would anyone be able to guide me through some steps, or have any leads on this?
    Many thanks in advance!
    LK

Unless you've done anything to change it, Google keeps every email that ever passes through their server in your All Mail folder/mailbox/label. Even if you delete stuff, they hold onto it, there. You have to go out of your way to actually delete anything permanently.

  • How can I retrieve pictures, lost from my iphone during a backup?

How can I retrieve pictures, lost from my iphone during a backup?

The photos could have gone a couple of different places ...but it is unlikely that they are lost forever.  It kind of depends how your Backup was done.  With many Computer-based iTunes connections, your Computer Photo App will actually open first when you connect your iPhone and the photo transfer will happen between the iPhone and the App.  Assuming that isn't what happened in your case, but you did Backup on iTunes, you could reconnect to iTunes and then click on your iPhone button on the Computer screen ...typically the iTunes Summary screen will show up ...but you can tab-through the various iTunes Screens and find the Photo page.  You could check your options and see if you have a Manual Sync setting regarding iTunes to iPhoone ...this would mean you have to select the Photos you want to download to the iPhone during the Sync.

  • Can i retrieve a lost profile

    Hi,
Is there any way to retrieve a lost profile? I linked my wife's iPhone to my MAC book to download photos, and iTunes kicked in to ask me if it was ne or her iPhone. I picked her iPhone, not knowing this was an old profile linked to her old iPhone from 15 months back. So iTunes duly wrote this profile onto the new iPhone and deleted all photos, apps, texts etc from the last 25 months. No back ups exist.
Any thoughts? even on how to get just texts back? I think we are resigned to the fact the photos are gone, but are keen to see what options may exist.
    Thanks!

You were prompted to transfer a backup to the iPhone or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone?
If so, this means the new iPhone has not been connected to iTunes since it was purchased. The prompt provided is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If there is no backup for the new iPhone including an iCloud backup, the data is lost.
Had you selected as a new iPhone, this would not have occurred.

  • HT204266 How do I retrieve a lost iphone with the Find My Iphone app?

How do I retrieve a lost iphone with the Find My Iphone app?
I got my iphone stolen right out of my bag and I am assuming there is no way of retrieving the phone back unless I have the Find My Iphone app? I am hoping someone could prove me wrong or give me another solution to getting it back. I have a lot of photos, videos and memories in that phone and I would do anything to get it back. Please help!

"I got my iphone stolen right out of my bag and I am assuming there is no way of retrieving the phone back unless I have the Find My Iphone app?"
It is not an app.  It is a feature of icloud and iphone.  Did you set it up on the iphone itself BEFORE it was stolen?  If not, then you cannot track it at all.
Change your passwords and report it to the police.

  • I have lost all my documents and previous downloads after syncing mac with my ipad4. Is there a way to retrieve the lost data. I have backed up my laptop on the icloud

I have lost all my documents and downloads after syncing my macpro with the Ipad4. I do backup my devices on the icloud can I retrieve the lost documents?

You lost them from the iPad, or from the Mac(Book) Pro?
If you lost them from the iPad, yes, you can restore your last backup from iCloud. Settings - iCloud - Backup - Restore.
Note that you can always re-download apps from the App Store, and music from the iTunes Store, for free, if they are accidentally deleted.

  • How can i retrieve the lost bookmarks on my ipad ?

How can i retrieve the lost bookmarks from my ipad ?

See if this gets them back.
Quit Safari completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus  sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I am up to date on my software. All notes are  backed up to Icloud. I have approximately 74 notes on my iphone  but Icloud is showing only 15!

    Hi iPheariPhoPad,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with Settings, the Notes app entry isn’t showing up as expected. Take a look at the article linked below and try restarting your iPhone 3GS.

If that doesn’t do it, try restoring your iPhone as shown in this article:
