Retrieving deleted documents

Hello,
Occasionally Apple Works seems to self delete a document from the Starting points list leaving me with an alias that of course won't open, up to now its just been an annoying happening but now Ive 'lost' a document that took me hours to do! is there any way I can retrieve a document that has that most horrrid of the dialogue box's " the alias ..... can not be opened because the the original item cannot be found"
I hope somebody has an answer?
Thanks.

Hello
As far as I know, AppleWorks doen't delete files by itself.
As you certainly know there is no "Delete" item in ifs File menu.
When a file is gone, it is that some one deleted it or does something making it disappear.
The 1st case is simple: someone moved the file (or the folder where it was stored) to the trash.
The second case is not so simple and it surfaces here from time to time. If someone rename an AW document while this one is open he may be quite sure that he will loose the doc.
Sure, it is an anomaly somewhere but it seems that nobody knows if the culprit is AW or MacOS so, as AppleWorks will no longer evolve we have to live with this oddity (or of course, leave it).

  • Retrieving Deleted Documents in Solution Manager

    Hello
    Some documents where deleted via the DELETE ROW button under the Configuration Tab in tcode SOLAR02. However, we want to know if there is a way to retrieve these delete documents.
    Also i want to know which table stores these documents. Please respond soon.
    Regards

    First goto transaction
    Solar01 and from the SAP menu Business Blueprint->Find document.
    Enter the name in the query for the lost document or directly press enter( also,can remove project name  from selection criteria).
    You wil get the list of all documents present.The doc which are removed from project can also be seen here.
    Can switch on trace for getting the table.
    Remember if you have press Minus button doc wil be there in knowledge warehouse and listed here.
    But if you have Press Delete symbol it means it is permanently deleted.
    Hope it helps

  • HELP!!!! Is there a way to retrieve deleted documents?

    While deleted unwanted photos, documents, etc I inadvertantly deleted a few files I needed. Is there a way to retrieve these or an air dirve recovery system you know of?
    Thank you.

    thank you Michael Black. I'll check that out.
    one other question, what exactly would detail an deleted file that has been over-written?
    I appreciate your advise.
    Basic file system summary - when you delete a file, nothing about that actual file changes other than its reserved space index in the file allocation table for the volume.  That changes from in-use to available.  As you continue to use the system, any disc area marked as available may be used to write new data, over-writing the old.
    As long as the entire space previously occupied by a deleted file has not been over-written, recovery software has a reasonable chance to recover the entire file.  As the area occupied by a deleted file, or parts of the space once occupied by portions of the file, get over-written, the ability of any software to recover the file (at least fully recover it) gets less and less.  Eventually, nothing is recoverable.  And obviously, a partially recoverd text file may still be useful, but a partially recovered image or binary file is as good as wholly trashed.
    So the more you use the machine, the less likely any given file can be recovered as the disc space gets re-used.

  • Exception while retrieving deleted document using metadata based query

    Hi,
    I am using dbxml 2.4.11 on Mac OS 10.5. My xml documents are stored in the dbxml with some metadata. Index on metadata is built. After delete a document I get an exception (error code is DATABASE_ERROR) while trying to use metadata based query:
    com.sleepycat.dbxml.XmlException: Error: DB_NOTFOUND: No matching key/data pair found, errcode = DATABASE_ERROR
    at com.sleepycat.dbxml.dbxml_javaJNI.XmlResults_hasNext(Native Method)

    at gov.nasa.gsfc.md.xdba.server.ApplicationServiceImpl.findDocument(ApplicationServiceImpl.java:99)
    the code used to query:
    query = ... /DIF[dbxml:metadata('md:Id')='1234']
    // Perform the query.
    XmlResults results = getXmlManager().query(query, context);
    while (results.hasNext()) {
    XmlValue xmlValue = results.next();
    DocumentDTO documentDTO = new DocumentDTO();
    XmlDocument xmlDocument = xmlValue.asDocument();
    XmlMetaDataIterator metadataIt = xmlDocument.getMetaDataIterator();
    XmlMetaData md = metadataIt.next();
    while (md != null) {
    String name = md.get_name();
    String value = md.get_value().asString();
    NameValuePair nameValuePair = new NameValuePair(name,value);
    documentDTO.addToMetadataList(nameValuePair);
    md = metadataIt.next();
    retVal.add(documentDTO);
    counter = counter + 1;
    results.delete();
    context.delete();
    As name and value of the metadata I use kind of Id. If I use the query with a never before existing Id, I get the expecting error code DOCUMENT_NOT_FOUND, which is ok.
    Anybody has an idea why?
    Thanks a lot,
    Hoan.

    Hi George,
    I use now version 2.4.16, built a new database, but I can't found any records using the code mentioned above. First I thought there would be problem on Mac, tried to install the whole database and app on linux, but the problem still persists. The query I am using is:
    collection('////usr/server/gcmdx/xmldb/data/live.bdbxml')/DIF[dbxml:metadata('md:docType')='DIF' and dbxml:metadata('md:internalId')='456']
    (Switching back to 2.4.11, I find the records inserted)
    I can send a record if you want.
    Thank you for your help,
    Hoan.

    Sorry no. That's how it works.
    Check if you still have an old backup and do a restore otherwise it's gone.

    How to retrieve deleted Pages document? Thanks.

    If you have a Mac that is signed into your account and you are using Time Machine to back up your Mac, you can recover the deleted document using Time Machine.  Otherwise, without a backup souce there is no way to recover it.

  • Retrieve a deleted document

    How to retrieve a document that was deleted in error.

    Hello peter
    Apple don't deliver a tool allowing us to extract a document from versions if the main document is gone.
    This is why I wrote and posted scripts filling the gap in :
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3303794?tstart=90
    At this time this set of three scripts is a "must have" for every Lion user.
    I'm too busy to submit an User Tip with them.

  • Could not retrieve the document with the passed obsolete token.

    Hi,
    Issue is with the specific report not able to execute when the query is cancelled and getting an error when you are cancelling an already executing query.
    Receiving an error message during running one of our report in the
    following way:
    - Run the Webi report
    - Select the value for 8 prompts
    - Click on cancel
    - try to re-run by clicking on re-fresh and receive an error message.
    The error message is the following:
    "Could not retrieve the document with the passed obsolete token (Error: RWI 00323) (Error: INF)"
    Till now we have made the following changes:
    This might be caused by a storage token that identifies a document state, which is no longer available in the storage tokens stack.
    In the webi.properties file, increased the value of storage tokens stack size.
    1. Edit the webi.properties file found in the following location:
    u2022 <Installed dir>\program files\businessobjects\BOenterprise115\Web services\en\dsws_webservice_boe\data\asemble\dsewsBobjJava\src\WEB-INF\classes\webi.properties.
    2. Add or change the following variables:
    u2022 WID_FAILOVER_SIZE (This sets the maximum number of tokens to keep in memory. It is 10 by default.)
    u2022 WID_STORAGE_TOKEN_STACK_SIZE (this sets the maximum number of tokens stored on disk. It is 10 by default.)
    u2022     Deleted cookies.
    u2022     Add  the Java Runtime Parameter value from following path:
    Start - > Control Panel-> Java -> Java Applet Runtime Settings
    Click on View.
    Add the Java runtime Parameter value: Xmx200.
    It is not a machine specific issue however it is intermittent.
    Please advice.

    Pradnya Kokil

    Hi Pradnya,
    Following solutions might help you to resolve the issue.
    Solution1:
    To achieve optimum performance, the developer should limit the number of new windows that can be opened using the OpenDocument function, particularly if using it within the drill function.
    If you must open a new window each time, you can increase the number of document instances available on the system by modifying parameters in the webi.properties file:
    1. On the Business Objects server, navigate to the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\classes
    2. Open the webi.properties file using a text editor.
    3. Uncomment the FAILOVER_SIZE=10 line by removing the # from the beginning of the line.
    4. After FAILOVER_SIZE, add the following:
    STORAGE_TOKEN_STACK_SIZE=40
    5. Save the file.
    6. Restart the application server
    Solution2:
    Do not use Control Key + N or File New from Browser for invoking new instance of Browser
    Avoid opening Infoview by Hyperlinks.
    Alternatively, by setting logontoken.enabled property in web.xml for desktop.war, will stop users allowing using old token
    Locate web.xml file in desktop.war file deployed on your application server
    Locate the following string in web.xml:<param-name>logontoken.enabled</param-name>
    Change the <param-value> for logontoken.enabled from true to false (forexample, <param-value>false</param-value>)
    Save and close the file
    Restart the web application server to apply the changes

  • How can I delete Documents from the KD?

    The documentation regarding deleting documents is poor! Can someone show me how to do this programmatically? I've been trying something like the following Web Service below:
    <WebMethod(Description:="This function will retrieve delete specified documents by CardID from the Plumtree Knowledge Directory. Excepts Plumtree CardIDs As ArrayList, Returns a Boolean (Success/Failure).")> _
    Public Function PTDocDelete(ByVal PTCardIDs As ArrayList) As Boolean 'Instantiate Plumtree Remote Session Dim IPTRemoteSession As IRemoteSession IPTRemoteSession = RemoteSessionFactory.GetExplicitLoginContext(New System.Uri("http://mymachineName.com/ptapi/QueryInterfaceAPI.asmx"), "Administrator", "")
    'Query the Plumtree Document Manager passing in the Folder ID Dim PTDocumentManager As IDocumentManager = IPTRemoteSession.GetDocumentManager() Dim i As Integer
    Dim arrPTCardIDs As Array arrPTCardIDs = PTCardIDs.ToArray() 'Convert ArrayList to a 1-Dimensional Array
    Try 'Loop throught the CardIDs and Delete them For i = arrPTCardIDs.GetLowerBound(0) To arrPTCardIDs.GetUpperBound(0) PTDocumentManager.RemoveDocuments(arrPTCardIDs(i)) Next Catch pe As PortalException Return False 'Failure! End Try
    Return True 'Success!
    End Function

    You mean the Photo Library? You delete pics that were synced to your phone the same way they got there, through the iTunes sync process. Remove the checks next to the albums/folders that were synced to your phone, hit the apply/sync button & they will be removed from your phone. The only pics that can be deleted directly on your phone are pics in your camera roll.
    If you mean delete the Photo Library itself, you can't delete that. All photos synced to your phone reside in the Photo Library...the various albums/folders merely contain pointers to the actual photos, which are in your Photo Library. They are not duplicates. This is similar to the way that iPhoto on a Mac organizes photos.

  • Is there any process to retrieve DELETED DATA in any stage either PO,GR,IR

    is there any process to retrieve DELETED DATA in any stage either PO,GR,IR >????

    It is normally quite difficult to physically "delete" PO, GR and IR. GR and IR are canceled, which means both the original document and the cancellation document can be found in the system.
    PO's get the deletion flag on the items (the trash bin) and also can still be seen in the system.
    Physical deletion of objects from SAP can only be achieved by "archiving". If archiving has been set up properly, you can later view the archived objects. If not, they are gone.

  • How can I retrieve deleted text messages from my iphone 5

    Somebody deleted a string of text messages from my iPhone 5 and I want to know if they can be retrieved and if so how? I'm new to the iPhone as this is my first apple product.  I am still not even sure on how to use my iTunes and so forth.  Please help as the string of messages was very important!! Thank you so very much!! Tracy

    SMS text messages are backed up with the iPhone - whether it's locally or to iCloud. If you've already written over the backup that had them (as in, backed up after the delete) then they're gone.
    If you still have a backup available from a time where you had the messages on your iPhone, all you have to do is erase the iPhone and restore from that backup.
    "Retrieve deleted messages from iPhone" is simple as pie.
