Retrieving e-mail in Japan via WIFI using imap for gmail

For some reason she can send out e-mails, but can not retrieve them. She is using WIFI so that she doesn't have to deal with data roaming charges. Why would she be able to send but not receive. She was told that the iPhone can't receive e-mail in Japan because of it having a different chip (believable if it was over the cell network but it is over WIFI.) Would it be possible that they would have the port blocked for receiving but not sending at the WIFI hot-spot?

Yes, that's certainly possible.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist

  • I am unable to connect my ipad to the internet via wifi, when asked for my password I get message "unable toI ge join network" however my laptop is able to access the internet using similar procedures and in the same physical location.?

I am unable to connect my IPad to the internet via WiFi, when asked for a password then attempt to join I get the messag "unable to join the network" however  if I use my laptop in  the same physical locationand using similar procedures I am able to conect.?

What router are you using? make/model/version
What security type are you using? If it is WEP then symbolic (non hex) keys may be converted to hex in different ways by different operating systems. Is your laptop a Windows PC?
If you are using WEP then drop it and move to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be hacked in seconds).

  • How do I delete a message?  Using Imap and gmail

I am using imap with gmail in apple mail for leopard. I get the idea that when you press the delete button it only deletes the inbox tag and it is still available for reference in "all mail" on the left window. I like this, it allows me to clear out my inbox and still reference e-mails later. Here is the question... How do I really delete a message, one I truly never care to see again? My "all mail" is getting out of control.

    This is what I do:
In preferences, I set my Gmail account as recommended by Google: I UNcheck the "Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox" option under Mailbox Behaviors. Once I do that, clicking "Delete" from the inbox actually archives it into the All Mail, but leaves it in my mailbox.
If there is an email I actually want to delete from my account, I move it from my Inbox to the Trash folder. I do this with a MailActOn keystroke, but you can do it just by moving it or dragging it there.
MailActOn helps a bunch if you have a lot of emails. I process about 300 a day and rely on it for maintaining my sanity, especially since I can set the same keystroke to do different things in different accounts, since I "delete" and "archive" differently for different accounts.

  • Retrieve online file as CSV via HTTPS using PL/SQL procedure

    Hi all,
    Situation:
Server A (not ORACLE)_: accesed via URL, generates dynamically a CSV file and returns to the requestor.
Server B (ORACLE)_: which runs the PL/SQL script. It is the requestor. Read the CSV and store it within ORACLE.
    (1) I want to connect from Server B (ORACLE) to an external URL via HTTPS which generates dynamically the CSV file. Subdomain.domain it is the Server A which contains this CSV file.
    https://dubdomain.domain/csv_generator.php?query=q1
    (2) This file is downloaded to the Server B (ORACLE). A PL/SQL script executed in this machine do the task.
    (3) After that, I load this CSV to an ORACLE table which a common CSV PL/SQL parser.
    Doubts:
Is it possible to retrieve an online file (a CSV) dynamically created and hosted in a third party server (Not ORACLE) via HTTPS using a PL/SQL procedure executed in a ORACLE server? If the answer is yes, what technology could I use? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Yago

    An CSV example in {message:id=10158148}.
For https, two actions are needed in addition.
Firstly, the certificate of the https web server needs to be loaded in an Oracle Wallet on your database server. The wallet will have a specific directory location on the server, and will be protected by a password.
Secondly, the PL/SQL procedure making web call, needs to open the wallet (using <i>UTL_HTTP.set_wallet</i>) using the location and password. Example of that in {message:id=10820182}.

  • Using POP not iMap for Gmail in Lion

I set up Gmail using iMAP and I find it utterly unusable. It's trying to download all 100,000 messages onto my new MacBook Air. NO!!!!
I want to use POP—as i have on all my other machines—to access my Gmail, but I can't seem to get the new version of Mail to cooperate.
Can anyone please step me through how to set up POP access to Gmail? Just changing imap.google.com to pop.google.com does not work. If I try to create a new account, the moment I enter gmail.com it automatically set up as IMAP.
    So frustrating!

    THANK YOU BARNEY
Words almost fail me regarding why this option is not only hidden from view, is not explained in the help text accessed from the '?' button, and needs secret knowledge to get to (or did I miss something basic somewhere?) but thank gawd I found your answer, albeit after an exasperating significant amount of wasted time...

  • Connecting via WIFI using SKY Broadband (UK) - Netgear router

Hi all, I've tried suggestions on this forum, so apologies if its been answered before, but I'm still having problems.
The IPod touch is recognised by my router, however, when I load my router password onto the IPod, it doesn't recongise it. Any advice would be really appreciated.
    Thanks in anticipation.

I was having the same problem connecting to my dads SKY wireless router.
It took me while to figure out that I was not turning on the 'caps lock' button on the ipod touch keyboard. The Sky password (on the sticker under the router) had to entered in upper case.
    hope that helps

  • Hello, I can no longer access my gmail account through the mail icon.  When I use the icon gmail tells me my password is invalid, however when I log in through Safari I have no problems.  Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I had no problem accessing my Gmail account through the mail icon until two weeks ago.  I can still access my Gmail account through Safari, but when I attempt to access my Gmail through the mail icon, Gmail tells me that my password is invalid.  Any Suggestions?  Any help would be greatly aprecieated.
    Thanks,
    Frank

I see you are using LastPass. Could that add-on be interfering with your login?? You could try disabling it temporarily under Tools > Add-ons to test that theory.

  • Double alerts in Mail when using Exchange for gmail

I am using the Exchange type account in Mail for my gmail so that it plays nice with labels.  But now when I get an email in the inbox Mail sees an identical copy in All Mail and I get two audio notifications.  This was amusing at first, but the novelty has worn off.  Is there a way to fix this without redoing the whole account setup?  Thanks.

Hmm. Dunno. I have my Gmail set up as an Exchange account and don't have this problem. It's very well behaved. It shouldn't take but a minute or two to delete the account and set it up again. I don't know if that will solve the problem but I can't think of anything else. Sorry.

  • Mail acts like I'm using it for first time when I've had it for years

I've used Apple Mail for several years and have my accounts set up, but when I launched it today, I got the "Welcome to Mail" interface and it's asking me to set up my accounts.
I had this problem before, but forgot how to fix it. I would like to be able to get at all my old emails and all of that.

Probably little value in reinstalling Mail -- the issue is likely within your User Account, and not the application. Removing the com.apple.mail.plist file and the Mail folder from Home/Library/Preferences and Home/Library/Mail will allow you to have a fresh start. You can test this in advance by the following:
Create a New User Account, and as that New User try to set up this one or both Gmail accounts. If not familiar with setting up a New User Account, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
This will be a useful test, and it not meant to suggest a permanent switch to the New User Account, but rather a test of the Mail application outside of your normal User Account and its existing setup data.

  • I'm using a Mac OS X (10.9.2) Mtn. Lion (converted to Mavericks) and use Safari for Gmail, my long time email program. Lately I almost cannot use Gmail at all. "Missing Files", "Errors", etc, etc, and can only use it in Basic HTML. HELP!

I have no idea if the problem is with Safari or with the Gmail files.  I get the msg. "Error' over and over and often "you may have entered the address wrong" (when I KNOW I HAVE NOT) and other msgs. which I do not remember at this time. I'm having to use ''Basic HTML" and that seems to be OK - tho it is insufficient. The "Mail" app in OS X works fine but I cannot tolerate the format and must solve this dilemma. Any suggestions?  I've read the "related issues" section and have not found anything closely related to this issue and would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks tons.

  • Using IMAP with Gmail

Do I need to set this up using the 'Gmail' option, or the 'Other' option, as I read somewhere that the 'Gmail' option sets up a POP account, not an IMAP acccount.
    Cheers

You have to set it up under "Other"(yes the "Gmail" option sets up the account as POP at least for now)

  • No cut and past in ichat using jabber for gmail

Just bought new macbook. I can't cut and paste or click on links during a chat. I use ichat all day at work and need those capabilities to function. any idea on how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
I have tested between to Jabber IDs on my two computers using two different Jabber Servers and Copying and Pasting a URL and then sending it worked for me.
At the second computer it was shown as a Link and opened the web page.
Have I misunderstood what you were saying or was that what you were trying ?
The test was iChat to iChat.

  • TS3899 When i check my email I get the message "Cannot Get Mail.  The user name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect".  The user name and password are definiately correct, I can log on through safari.  This worked fine this morning!

My gmail account has stopped working on my iphone, saying the user name or password is incorrect, but both are definitely correct.  I have tried restarting the phone, deleting the account and setting it up again, and checked that I can log on through safari.  It had been working fine until this morning!  Any ideas how to fix this?

Turn off 2 step authentication on your gmail account in a browser.   It should work fine afterwards.

  • Not all my messages are sinked when using IMAP and Gmail.

This happens on all computers I've tested. I've tested 2 windows 7 64 bits and one windows vista 32 bit.
I configure IMAP on my thunderbird client and most emails sink, but there is about a week or 2 that don't. This week or two is about 2 weeks before I sinked the new cliant to the server. For example, if I sinked today, august 27, emails between august 1 and 14 would not sink.
Emails from 2 years ago and yesterday will sink just fine, it is always about that 2 week past mark where they don't sink.
On one windows 7 that I sinked on august 14, the emails don't sink from July 15 to august 1 although they are there on the second computer.
The emails are in my Gmail, so I've just been going into the online client to read them, but why would this be happening?

You are low on memory.  Look in Options >Status and post the number you see next to "File Free."  Once you get that number, remove the battery and reinsert and post the number there after the reboot.  Then read the thread below to fix the problem for good:
