Retrieving folder of images - cache file?

Looks like I have trashed a couple of folders of images stored on the desktop, not iPhoto. However, i found two cache files with the suffix .dpImageCache
They both have a different file size to one another so it looks like they have got the images there. Is there any way of retrieving the images? Or is this just some stupid dumb techie thing that serves no purpose other than to wind the user up?

Hi, IR75. There is a .dpimagecache file for each folder of pictures you have used in the past as desktop images. It is a stupid dumb techie thing that serves some purpose best understood by OS X itself and perhaps by stupid dumb techies, not including me or, apparently, you. I don't believe you are likely to have any luck extracting any actual photos from it.
To recover files of any kind that have been accidentally trashed by someone who is certainly not a stupid dumb techie, but might fairly be characterized as careless, you may want to download the demo version of Data Rescue II or FileSalvage and use it to see whether the photos (or some of them) are still recoverable. If they are, stop using your computer until you are able to buy the full version of one of those utilities and recover your photos to some storage medium other than your main hard drive.
When you trash a file and empty the trash, the file remains on your hard drive; only its directory entry is removed. That has the effect of making the space it occupies on the drive available for other uses. Until it is actually overwritten by something else in the course of your computer use, it remains recoverable by software that is specially designed for that purpose, like the two utilities I mentioned above.

  • Remove image cache files

I found on a metalink note "Remove image cache files within directory "$OA_HTML/cabo/images/cache" and style sheet cache files within directory "$OA_HTML/cabo/styles/cache" after the patch is successfully applied"
Could anybody tell me which are the files extension I have to look for (I have to remove)?
    thanks,
    Paul

That would be ok but make sure you bounce Apache then.
If you have any other languages installed, you would find a directory <lang code> (such as 'en' for English, 'ar' for Arabic) under <OA_HTML>/cabo/images/cache/<lang code> which is used to cache dynamically created images for each language.

  • User sip folder have many .cache files with 4kb and the folder is becoming full and Lync Client stops working

User sip folder have manu Mailitem&username&.cache files until folder is full and Lync client stops working.

    Hi,
You can try to change the Lync Profile name. After you do it, Lync will create a new Profile. The Lync Profile path is following:
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
If the issue persists, please repair Office 2013 and then test again.

  • What folder are the cache files stored? In the previous version I could look at cached files but now no files are stored at that location.

I want to be able to retreave cached files while running firefox as I could in the last version

You can find out where the file is through '''about:cache'''
but that would be a major hassle finding your files, you want to install
    :CacheViewer '''0.7b''' -- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/cacheviewer/
It is not marked as compatible but get the latest development version 0.7b, read the Developer Notes for the extension. It works. You may have to override compatibility.

  • Messages Opening Image Cache Folder when Sending Files

Messages / iChat seems to be opening my image cache folder every time I send an image to my contacts the image cache folder opens in Finder and stays open with the copied image. Is there a way to get rid of this? It's really annoying. It started happening after I updated to Mavericks.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I don't have an answer for this one.
Are you finding those items are zipped before Sending ?
    Where are they from?
I get them zipped when sending a pic dragged from a Browser or from iPhoto but not from the Desktop or a Finder window.

  • Extract thumbnail images from a cache file without originals?

After an external drive crash, I'm left with only the Bridge (CS2) cache files for a folder full of images. Does anyone know a way to extract the thumbnails from the cache as jpgs or some other standalone format when you *don't* have the original image files? They would be low-res, but better than nothing. Thanks in advance.

    >>says that this export technique does not work, it produces a low res screen version of the file.
Are you certain the original files were any better?
My preferred method of doing this works well, but it takes a few extra steps. I'd make a high-res PDF out of the PM file, then pick apart the PDF to extract the graphics. Are the graphics raster or vector? If they're raster, you can use Acrobat's Touch-up Object tool to open them in Photoshop. If they're vector, you can open the PDF in Illustrator and save out the graphics from there.

  • What is the default name of the folder where the cache (i.e. Firefox's temporary internet files) is stored?

What is the default name of the folder where the cache (i.e. Firefox's temporary internet files) is stored? Basically, what folder is Firefox's equivalent of Temporary Internet Files?

You can find the location of the cache on the about:cache page (open that page via the location bar like a website).
Only large image and media files are stored as individual files on disk.<br />
Other files are stored in a few large container files (_CACHE_XXX_) in the cache folder and not as separate files on disk.<br />
The individual files on disk have random names without a file extension for security reasons: you can't open an application or start a downloaded virus inadvertently by clicking a file in the cache folder.<br />
You can look at this extension for easier access to files in the cache.

  • Remove caches file's automatically if you delete a folder from your drive???

    Gday,
First off all sorry for my poor/bad English.
When i remove/delete a folder in bridge, where will by the cache file of this folder??
Does it also Remove/delete automatically, ????
Or should I in the preferences box, tick on the (automatically Export Cache to folders when possible) option???
    Already many Thanks,
    Henry

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.
If you want to delete all backups of a selected item, such as for space or security reasons, see #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library

is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library ?

As I understand it Robo doesn't really 'do' third-party
source control. We use SourceGear Vault, but really only as a
repository for the files. We can't really work concurrently because
Robo needs exclusive access to the top level project files. But it
kind of works for us, because we're on opposite sides of the globe.
I see what you're saying on the 'local' versions of (say) the
cpd files conflicting. If anyone else has an informed view, I'm all
ears. We've set it up this way ourselves - I don't know of anyone
doing the same. If someone tells me this is a bad idea, I'm happy
    to think again.
    Cheers!

  • How can I store ALL cache files in ONE place? i.e. in one folder

    Firefox 28.0
    WIN xp
I would like all the cache files to be maintained in one single folder and not spread over multiple folders in a directory structure (as it currently operates).
    (current cache location)
    C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxx.default
    (multiple folders and sub-folders)
Is there some way for Firefox to do this?

    AFAIK that is not possible.
It is possible to choose an alternative location but the structure will remain the same.
    * see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.disk.parent_directory
I do not know whether you have discovered it but you cache details may be accessed from Firefox by navigating to ''about:cache'' . About:cache details the three caches.

Running Mac OS X Version 10.7.2  Lion on a MacBook Pro
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Any ideas?

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks.
My HD is a "normal" HD, so I guess it's HFS+. (According to Disk Utility it is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The NAS is WD MyBook Live Duo. I just plugged into my Time Machine.
I am relocating using Aperture "relocate originals for project" under the File tab.
Ahh, thanks for the answer to question 1.
Yes, I am trying to relocate them, but tried different things to find the problem.
And the problem seems to be that when an image gets an extra attribute (when it's downloaded from the internet, when it is comes from a mail message) then Aperture seems not to be able to move the file.
I.e. Aperture presumeably asks the Finder or kernel to perform this task, and this then fails because of the extra attirbutes that were set.
I now found a way of manually removing the extra attributes, but that is a pain.
    Think of this normal workflow:
    - someone sends me an email containing images
    - I move the images to my Desktop
    - I then import the images into Aperture
    - I then decide to relocate my images for that project to my NAS
Then is when this problem occurs.
So I just tried to relocate to another place on my HD.
    That works fine.
I looked again at the error message.
And it says "could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor" .
So, yes, it seems like it has to do with the NAS not supporting setting the extra attributes.
And as long as there are no extra attributes on an image, there is no problem.
(Not completely true, but I have another thread about that)
Thanks Frank, I have to digest this a bit.
    Regards
    Jan

  • Where is browser cache file for Firefox 5.0? For example, if I hear a sound on an url, how do I retrieve it or anything else that's in the cache??

Where is the browser cache file in Firefox 5.0? It's my understanding that in prior versions, one only had to type "about:cache" in the address bar to retrieve the cache file. But this doesn't work on 5.0. I want to retrieve sound files from Cornell.edu ornithology website but cannot find where the file is located. In IE6.0 one only had to go to tools > internet options > settings > view files = viola!! As for prior versions of Firefox, the plug-in CacheViewer was very helpful but is incompatible w/ Firefox 5.0. Please help!

A-OK, Xircal. Absolutely correct. I had a space where it should not have been. Problem solved. Thx bunches.

  • How to clear the cache files in folder Temporary Internet Files

When one user opens files such as pdf. or doc. from Portal,  the same file will be downloaded into the Temporary Internet Files folder. if another user copied the files out of the Temporary Internet Files folder from this computer and save to someplace else, then we face one security problem.
So my question is: How to clear the cache files in folder Temporary Internet Files??  Can we delete the files automatically when close the files in Portal??
or is there some ways to make encrypty???
    Thanks very much!

    Hello,
this is a basical security problem which should be resolved by the OS standard security setup . No other user should have access to the temporary file folders in the personal directory. The user account must be secure. Normaly your security problem should not be a problem if basic security exists on the clients.
You can resolve this problem if every user has his own account on the client
The users having no administration permissions on the clients
The folder for the temporary internet files is placed in the personal profile folder of the user account.
On default no other user has access rights to you personal folder, this means the client OS is setup correctly.
You can setup the IE that no temporary files are saved (but it reduces performance)
You can enable IE to delete automaticly the temporary files if IE is closed.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards
    Alex

  • Can the folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 and the files it contains simpley be deleted?

My daughter is running Adobe Reader 9.4.5 and Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X
on a Dell Dimension 4400 system with
Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 Service Pack 3.
During a full system backup using Seagate DiskWizard version 11.0.8326
each time folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6
is accessed the pc freezes with the Blue Screen error
IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL ERROR 0x0000000A
    (0x00000166, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804E5443).
Each time the Adobe Reader 6 folder is opened manually, the system presents a spinning
CD icon superimposed on the cursor and attempts to access the CD drive.
The access ultimately fails since there is no CD loaded because there is no intent to install
    anything at the moment.
Through a manual process of backing up each of the the files in the Adobe Reader 6 folder
individually, one at a time, I strongly suspect the problem file to be instmsiw.exe.
Can the folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 and the files it contains simpley be deleted?
Are there any registry entries or issues that must be addressed before deleting these files?
What is the best way to free up space on the C drive that is apparently being occupied by
files left over from the install of a prior version of Adobe Reader?
The folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 contains the following files:
    0x0409.ini                        5KB          Configuration Settings        2/18/2003
    abcpy.ini                          2KB          Configuration Settings        3/24/2003
    Adobe Reader 6.0.msi      2198KB     Windows Installer               5/19/2003
    Data1.cab                       23334KB    WinZip file                         5/19/2003
    instmsia.exe                   1669KB      Application                        3/11/2002
    instmsiw.exe                  1780KB      Application                        3/11/2002

    Rdr60ENU.mst               4KB            MST file                           4/16/2003
    Setup.exe                      212KB        Application                        5/19/2003
    Setup.ini                        2KB            Configuration Settings        5/19/2003
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall Adobe Reader 6. That version poses a security risk to your system and should be removed a.s.a.p.
After you remove it, reboot and then delete the "Adobe Reader 6" folder at the location you mentioned above.
Then go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/ and download version 9.4
After that installs, download the latest patch for it by opening the program, then go to Help | Check For Updates.
As a precaution, download the free version of Malwarebytes from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and then run a full system scan.

  • Folder redirection with Offline files enabled - Can I change the location of the locally cached files?

I have a 2012 r2 server setup with folder redirection and offline files enabled. All this works perfectly.
As you probably know, the local cache for offline files is stored at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\
The problem I have run into is that one user (who cannot be told to delete files cough ceo cough) has a very large documents folder, and a small SSD drive for his C drive. So the offline files are filling up his SSD. He wants all his files to be synced,
so decreasing the max disk usage is also not an option.
What I would like to do is move the Offline files to his D drive which is a large drive, however I have been unable to find any official method for doing this. Is there any provision to change this?
If not, would it work to move the entire \servername\ path to the d drive and then create a junction at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\ that points to d:\servername\?
    Thanks,
    Travis

    Hi,
The following article is for Windows Vista but it should work at least in Windows 7.
How to change the location of the CSC folder by configuring the CacheLocation registry value in Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937475
Meanwhile creating a symbolic link should also work like:
    mklink /d "C:\Windows\CSC" "D:\CSC"
Note: It will create d:\csc folder so you do not need to manually create it.
Note 2: As mentioned above, you may need to re-sync the offline files. Personally I also think robocopy will not work.
