Retrieving Gmail Password In Mac Mail

I have been unable to retrieve the password for Gmail account. I've contacted Google numerous times and even answering EVERY question, they will not send me a password reset.
My Gmail account is setup on my iMac and my iPhone, but I can't set up my email account on my MacBook Pro since I can't access the password.
Is there anyway to export my Mac Mail settings or be able to see the password (it shows up as •••••••••) or be able to hack it to copy and paste.

On the iMac, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. Do a search in your "login" keychain for "gmail" and find the correct one (eg, the POP or SMTP server key). Highlight it, click the "i" button at the bottom of the screen, and click "Show password". You'll need to enter your Mac user's login password to reveal the password.

  • GMail won't accept password using Mac Mail

I set up my POP access according to Gmail's directions, and can log
onto the account fine on the web but it won't accept my password using
Mac Mail. Anyone dealt with this before? Please let me know. Thanks.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Please disregard, I've figured out the problem. In case it could help someone else, when asked for the User Name, you have to include the "@gmail.com" where with Apple Mail, you don't have to.

  • TS3276 changing gmail password in Apple mail

I would like to change my gmail password in Apple mail. I was able to chage the gmail password on the goggle web site but it the same password was not accepted in Apple Mail.

Problem solved, I deleted the 2 step verification in google and my password was accepted in Apple mail.
    NOW
When I installed the last mailbox, I noted a lot of "Mail Activity" and several hundred messages were incoming. In my mailboxes, I see the names of the mailboxes but there is no numbers next to them indicating the number of emails in the box. I also see that there are about 200 junk emails, several of then are not junk
Any suggestions. Hopefully the screen shot comes thru

There are two standard protocols for receiving email, POP and IMAP. In the POP (Post Office Protocol) when messages are "read" by your email client (Mail) they are downloaded and stored on the reading computer and deleted from the POP server. When you are using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) the messages remain on the IMAP server until they are deleted. IMAP was created for exactly the situation you are trying to achieve. For example Apple's iCloud (formerly me.com, formerly mac.com) uses IMAP protocol. So whether I access my email on my Mac, my iPhone, my iPad, or via webmail I have access to all the files in all the various mailboxes automatically because they are all seeing and using the same online mailboxes. If I delete a message on any of the varioius devices it is deleted on all of the various devices.
Whether you can use IMAP protocol or not depends on your email host and whether they have an IMAP server or not. Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because they do not want to bear the expense of the additional disk space required to store the IMAP messages. As I mentioned before Apple's free email service is by default IMAP. Google Mail offers a somewhat non-standard IMAP service. It works with Apple's email client, Mail, but it is just a bit "different".
Personally I resisted using IMAP for years. Largely because I had always used POP and was comfortable with it. Once I got an iPhone and needed to synch my email between my computer and iPhone I realized IMAP was "the only way to go."

  • Junk and Trash mailboxes from Gmail disappeared on Mac Mail--any ideas?

Junk and Trash mailboxes from Gmail disappeared on Mac Mail--any ideas?
Under Mailboxes in Mac Mail, I used to see Inbox (along with sub-Inboxes for each account, all of which are still there), VIPs (still there), Sent (still there), Drafts, Junk and Trash, all of which are missing, without me making ANY changes anywhere, either on Mac Mail or Gmail.
Any ideas ... or other people experiencing same issue?  (Happened in my wife's account and I just assumed the kids deleted something, but then I went to my account where the kids never are and I found the same issue.)

Do you mean that they are not listed under Gmail's header at the bottom of the Mailbox List or that they don't exist in the Unified Mailboxes at the top?
If they are not in the unified mailboxes, check down under Gmail and vice versa. If they are at the bottom under Gmail, select each separately and go to the Use Mailbox for command in the Mailbox menu. Set each one to what they are supposed to be, ie Trash, Junk, Sent, Drafts.
If they don't appear anywhere, log into Google's email website, go to Settings, click on the Labels tab and make sure those mailboxes are set to show in IMAP.
Finally, if they are IMAP accounts, just delete the accounts from Mail then re-add them. If you have a lot of email, it will take a while to synchronize, but it should recover those foldrs. If you are using POP, I'm not exactly sure how to save the old email, but I would assume Google is already doing that for you.

  • Pop gmail account using Mac Mail has stopped receiving email.

I have two pop gmail accounts using Mac Mail.  One has stopped receiving email while one is fine.  Both are set up exactly the same.  Any idea how to fix this issue?

I saw on Yahoo's site the following:
    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-40.html
    Does that address your problem?
I see you're using the UK version and that there's no similar page on the Yahoo UK site but perhaps it helps anyway. Have a look here as well: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/pop/pop-30.html

  • Using two gmail accounts in Mac Mail client, smtp server issue

I've set up two gmail accounts (one personal, one from my job) in Mac Mail. The personal account is set up via POP, the job account is IMAP. I receive mail into each account with no problem. However Mac Mail won't allow me to set up two separate smtp.gmail.com servers (one for each account). If I edit my SMTP server list and try to change either account individually, it changes BOTH accounts. So I can receive with no problem, but can only send mail from both accounts from ONE account (which ever one I've programed). Is there a way to set up two SMTP severs through gmail (one for each account)?

I have two separate ones set for password authentication to two different accounts.
In your smtp server list, how many are listed? If only one, click the add button and set it up for the other account.

  • Gmail forwarding to Mac Mail

I just set up my account to have my gmail account in my Mac Mail.
I am new to macs altogether so my question might have an obvious answer. When I read new mail through Mac Mail, it is marked as read. However, when I then log into my gmail account directly online, the same email that had been read on Mac Mail is marked as new on gmail.
Is there a way to have an email be marked as read in gmail if it has been read in Mac Mail, and vice a versa? Similarly, if I delete an email in Mac Mail, is there a way to have the email be deleted from my gmail?

Yes - you need to set your GMail up as IMAP, not POP. Make sure that you have IMAP enabled in your GMail's webmail (the same place where you enabled POP), and then delete and re-create your account as an IMAP version. You'll need to use the GMail server settings - eg "imap.gmail.com" for both incoming and outgoing servers. Check these articles carefully:

  • Help with imap gmail account via mac mail

What are the best settings for gmail as imap in mac mail?
I have my gmail account set up with mac Mail as an IMAP account.
I notice that in the last few weeks?? not sure how long, my mac mail is taking forever to load.  I opened the activity window and it seems like there are so many things happening.  I did find an old account that was still had some activity and while I had delteed it, I did need to do a few more steps to get it out of the process.
Now, as it still seems to take forever for my inbox to fully load, I began looking into the settings.
I am not able to change the settings for trash and I think saving the deleted messages to the server could be a waste of time.  This is the advanced setttings page
the trash is 'grayed out' and won't allow me to uncheck the 'store deleted messages on the server'.  Anyone know how to change this?
Also, I want to uncheck 'store sent messages on the server' as I think that will save a LOT of process activity, but gmail's directions for imap accounts says to leave it checked.  Not sure why, any thoughts?
    Michelle

I'm not familiar with CalbeOne, but you can follow the instructions they provided at their site:
    http://help.cableone.net/HSD/mycableone/migrate/default.aspx
You might also want to make sure you followed their transfer instructions.
Build your accounts in Mail as per the POP or IMAP settings provided. When adding accounts to Mail, when you get to the first screen, you can hold the option key down when you hit continue for more options on the Mail configurations rather than the standard defaults.
If you are viewing these accounts at the gmail website, then you might need to do some configuration there also. I'm not sure on how much they are integrated with gmail.

  • Email Keeps Asking for Password on Mac Mail

Mac Mail very often asks for the password on my Verizon email accounts (only). When I go into Mail preferences often the password has been erased. I have also changed the authentication settings from APOP to POP.
Is this a port issue? My port is still 110.

Its an issue that is specific to the keychain access and mac mail.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access and from Keychain Access menu item and run First Aid. Plus find the saved password entry that Mail keeps asking you for.
Then run Mail again and tell it to save the password again to see if it sticks.

  • Gmail account on Mac Mail

Cableone partnered with Gmail about 18 months ago so all of our incoming mail actually comes into my Mac Mail (with a bit of configuring for each account) except for a regular GMail account. My addresses are actually cableone addresses and not gmail except for one. We have 6 email accounts for various things. Does anyone know how I would set it up to be received directly on my iMac instead of looking at it in a browser? Cableone can't help me with this one.

  • Gmail password rejected in Mail.app

    Hi Everyone,
I have scanned through much of the archives looking for answers. My wife's 12" Powerbook cannot receive email from pop.gmail.com. It rejects the password EVERY time. We have been through the settings in meticulous detail about 50 times over. NOTHING works. Gmail rejects her password every time.
    Every.
    Time.
She has been on the gmail website and her password works fine there. Pop is enabled on the Gmail website. We have been through the email setup links at gmail.com time and time again.
Nothing works. Her password gets rejected time and time and time again ad infinitum.
    HELP!!!!!
P.S. Works fine on my 17" Powerbook. I have no problems with Gmail.

hi - i can second this problem with a few more details for trouble shooting.
I have deleted the Mail account and started over countless times.
I have changed the password within Gmail, logged and logged back in to make sure the new password is the current one
    I have repaired keychain access
and to top it all off ...
i have started an alternate gmail account and successfully linked it up with Mail without problems.
Any other things i can try before i give up on this email account?
