Retrieving inadvertantly deleted e-mail? Is this the big "duh"?

Help oh faithful Apple warriors! My 2002 14" G3 iBook crashed -- On my third mother board -- so I've been using my wife's 2003 12" G4 iBook in the meantime. I log on to .Mac on her Safari and check my e-mail that way.
Well, I had a problem with some "sent" messages not appearing in the "sent" box and so I went to her mail application to see if I could check it there. I set up my .Mac address as a new account. (To complicate matters, her e-mail account is a sub-account of mine. We paid for it but I forget what that is called.) Well I made a mistake and set-up a copy of hers. I then figured that out and added my account.
I wanted to delete the copy I made of hers and went to "Help." I was able to delete her "sent" and "drafts" but not the copy of her "inbox." I then looked for my missing "sent" e-mails and didn't find them. I deleted my "sent" and my "drafts" off her computer. I was unable to delete my "inbox" off her computer. AND A GOOD THING -- because I went to check my "sent" e-mails online and they were GONE. There was something like 1,500 sent e-mails. I looked in the "trash" and nothing. I rebuilt my "inbox" and thought this would restore the "sent" box and it didn't.
Help! Is there a way to get them off the server?
And if not, how can I safely remove my mailbox off of my wife's "Mail" application and not lose what's left of the contents of my .Mac mail account (i.e. the "Inbox".)
Hoping for the best -- Lost in LA

Or someone might be so kind to post the solution here, saves me getting a few wrong diagnosis.

Go to MESSAGING, press OPTIONS, SETTINGS then EMAIL. Once there, MAILBOXES. Now you should be able to list all your accounts. Select the one you want, press OPTIONS, delete.

No, it can't be done. There have been many requests for this.
All you can do is send feedback to Apple on it at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iPad.html

  • Sync outlook mail account from the infotab in Itunes

    Hi!
I have selectet my outlook mailaccount from the infotab in Itunes, and expected it to appere in Mail on my Iphone. But even if it shows how many unread mails I have got, I can not find them.
When I open Mail it is like I have no mailaccount ready. I have to select i.e. exchange, hotmail, gmail etc. Did it not sync properly?
Do I need to set up a imap or pop3 account to connect to my mail anyway? Contacts and calender sync's like a charm!
    Best regards

    Hi jmknight,
When you disable contact syncing or delete a mail account from the phone, the data that is removed from the phone is ONLY that data that was synced from that account.  So if you previously had [email protected] added to the phone and had contacts synced from that account, those contacts will not be removed from the phone when you delete [email protected] from the phone.  Additionally, it will not ever delete the contacts from the mail server itself (they will still be accessible at hotmail.com through webmail), rather it just un-syncs the contacts from the phone.
    I hope this helps!

  • HT201320 lost bottom banner when open "mail" cannot delete e-mails?

lost bottom banner when open "mail" cannot delete e-mails?

Close the mail app. Then double tap on the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar. Swipe upwards on the mail app. Reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Once the phone reboots, try opening mail and see if this returns.

Until yesterday, I could delete e-mails by touching the trach can icon while looking at the message. Doesn't work today, so I have to go to Edit, then delete. Solution anyone?

Try a simple reset of the phone. Many times that will fix a problem. Hold down the Home and power button together until you see the Apple logo, then release, ignoring the slide to power off screen. This will reboot the iPhone and normally clears any minor issues.

  • Why I cannot assess deleted Apple mail messages in time machine after installing mountain lion from snow leopard.

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, I cannot retrieve my deleted Apple mail messages from Time Machine.  I could do it in the past using Snow Leopard.  The effective date for the the non-retrival of deleted messages is the date I installed Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard.  Any thoughts?

I'm still not sure what you mean . . . is it listed in the "On My Mac" section in Mail's sidebar, like these?
Mountain Lion appears to have given it an icon very much like an Archive box and put the "on My Mac" folder within that "Box" on both the back ups and the new Mail program - in fact it did it 6 times, which was the origional problem.
    Can you post a screenshot?
I could restore inbox messages although they came in as a new mail box called Time Machine rather than into their origional mailboxes (there are 7 different addresses)
Yes, that's how Time Machine restores Mail messages, so it doesn't erase the current contents of an existing mailbox.  You can then move them into the desired location.

  • Inadvertently deleted column in response view

I inadvertently deleted a linked column in the "View Responses" table.   How can i get that column back and linked to the questionnaire form?

I would try using the History Function on the "View Responses" table to go back to a day/time that you had the column you lost.  If you've had some people submit forms since this loss then copy and paste those replies to excel and you can import them after the recovery.  The history function is located at the bottom right of the screen.  I've attached a screen shot of it.  Only go back as far as needed.

  • I can't delete e-mail from iPad

On my iPad (3), when I try to delete e-mails I get the message "Unable to move messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash" In the past this worked OK. Now I have over 100 e-mails I want to 'disappear'. Help.
    Bob F

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • E71 How to delete e-mail headers from phone (IMAP ...

I use IMAP e-mail, so all none deleted e-mails stay on the server and are accessable from anywhere.
I have realised that I can't delete e-mail headers from the phone (I only want the last 7 days or so) . The delete options are: delete from Server and Phone, delete from phone - header remains.
This means that I am building a huge list of headers and will be useing memory.
Anyone found a way around this?
    Many thanks. Peter

Nokia email client is not supported for my device (7610).
Also, it seems, there is no way to delete the headers selectively. Normally, when you want to handle the emails through your mobile device, you want to keep only important ones and delete the rest. So, possibly, Nokia can consider this for the future updates of the software, where user can delete the headers selectively to keep the inbox uncluttered and only as per the requirement.

  • I have mistakenly deleted a mail folder which I had created. Can't remember if it was located to 'iCloud' or 'On My Mac'. How can I retrieve the emails contained in this deleted folder? Your help will be immensely appreciated!

Yeah not a problem. It does seem though that if you did not have a Time Machine backup then you may not be able to recover the deleted folder :/ But for future reference to prevent any of this, a Time Machine backup is a great investment.
What it does is create an entire backup of your computer anything from personal information down to the screen saver.
What you first need is a new external hard drive (I would recommend a 1TB or higher just to prevent running out of space soon).
after that, just plug in the drive to your computer.
once it is plugged in, in the top right hand corner, close to the wi-fi symbol, you should see a symbol that looks like a clock with a backwards arrow around it.
click on that and select "open time machine preferences"
just turn the button to the "on" position, and select the backup drive and Time Machine does the rest
    very great tool

More tedious but more inuitive, you can select each email or a group of emails and drag and drop them wherever you want, including Inbox.
