Retrieving Iphoto pics after emptying the trash

I was saving my Iphoto pics to a zip disk and when completed I accidentally emptied the photos icon into the trash and deleted the trash. Thus I lost some pictures I had not yet saved to disk. Is there a way to retreive them maybe by reinstalling the software or are they gone for good?

You must understand this difference.
You can keep all kinds of photos in the Pictures Folder. You can have all kinds of folders in that Pictures Folder.
But every picture you imported or dragged into the iPhoto window is stored in a very special folder - iPhoto Library folder in that Pictures Folder.
The Iphoto Library Folder is where everything you have done in iPhoto is stored -- it is the database. There is nothing stored in the application.
Now what you are saying makes no sense unless you moved the database - the iPhoto Library folder to another location - which is okay, as long as iPhoto knows where the database is.
Simple version
iPhoto stores everything you do in a database called the iPhoto Library folder which by default is placed in your Pictures Folder. You can also use this Pictures folder to store photos that are not in iPhoto
I guess they are gone for good and no way to retrieve them,
if you deleted the database - the iPhoto Library Folder - then what was in iPhoto is GONE. You will have to move on to "data recovery" software as mentioned in earlier posts.

  • How do I restore my iPhoto Library after emptying the trash?

I recently transferred my iPhoto from my external hard drive to my desktop of my macbook air. I have two different iPhoto Libraries on this computer. IphotoAug2014 and IphotoFeb. I just now deleted the iPhotoFeb from my desktop and then emptied my trash! Is there any way to restore the library? HELP!! It is still on my external hard drive, but i have updated it since its been on my desktop.

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

I am trying to open space in my macbook hard drive, so I deleted files and after emptying the trash bin the amount of Gigs didn't increase, why? Where can I go and delete those files?

Did you do a secure empty trash? SHIFT COMMAND DELETE, they will be over wriiten. Are you deleting docs as they aren't much space, videos, pictures, music use much more space.
You can move those fiels to an external "archive" drive to save them then delete them from your internal drive.

  • Can you recover deleted files which were stored on an external HD after emptying the trash on the Imac using Time Machine.

Hello - I had deleted files off of my external HD which I thought would not affect my Itunes library... Unfortunately I was incorrect in my assumption.  Additionally, I empty the trash as I was hoping to regain storage space for the external HD.  My question is, can i restore these files now that the trash has been emptied?  I do have a regular back-up running on a Time Capsule, however when I chose the ext HD and enter into the time machine to restore it will not allow me to locate any files on the external HD??
    Help!!!

Is Time Machine configured to backup the external disk drive?
It doesn't sound like it is. Which means that they is no way to get anything from that EDD from TM.
Your only alternative now is file recovery software. For a review on such software, try http://data-recovery-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-recovery-software/

  • Need to find a document after emptying the trash.

Not too long ago I looked through the list of things I had put in the Trash.  Some how I over looked a document I should have removed from the Trash and Empetyed Trash.  There is some way to locate what has been empteyed from the Trash and get it onto the Desktop.  How do I do that?
I have not Secured Empty Trash... so my document should still be able to be found and removed from the Emptey Trash.

As Michael says, it's touch and go as to whether you can retrieve the file.
    Most used applications for data recovery are;
    Data Rescue 3;
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    Stellar Phœnix;
    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Both programmes will give you a free download to scan your HD and see if the files are recoverable, but you'll have to pay for the full application to actually recover them. I've personally used DR3 with reasonable results on a bad drive, though it fails on more obscure file formats (I lost all my Audacity .aup files).
You'll need to be able to run the rescue application from another drive (a bootable clone is best).
Or you could just restore from your TM backup…

  • IPhoto crashes when emptying the Trash and then quitting iPhoto

When I empty the iPhoto trash and then quit iPhoto, it crashes every time. When I reopen it the trash is again full.
Also, the items in the trash are blank squares.
    Any ideas?

    Ronniebel:
Have you tried the usual maintenance procedures? Repair disk permissions, repair the disk with Disk Utility while booted into the system installation disk that came with you Mac, run Tiger Cache Cleaner's medium cleaning routine or OnyX to clean out the various user caches and the cron maintenance scripts.
Also download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Another possibility is to run iPhoto Library Manager and use its File->Rebuild Library menu option to rebuild the library.
Next, move the iPhoto Library folder to the Shared folder and set the access so other users can read and write. Then log into another account on you Mac, fire up iPhoto with the Option key depressed and locate and open the library in the Shared folder. See if you can delete the trash there and operate normally. If you can then it's something to do with your other account. If you can't then it's the library itself.
    Good luck.

  • IPhoto 6 quit when I empty the trash

Hi, I just installed the last iLife 06 and I've a problem with iPhoto. When I empty the trash iPhoto quits and when I relauch it I can see the number of element into the trash. If I click on the trash then it seems there are elements inside but without any thumbnails.
Is this a bug and how to be sure elements have been really erased ?
    Thanks

Using the iPhoto menu to empty the trash instead of the contextual menu seems to relly empty the trash...

  • Project Files disappear after emptying Aperture trash

Here's an odd issue: I import raw/jpeg files from my Canon 5dMII into a created project in Aperture. I sift through the pix and delete what I don't want. I then check in Aperture's trash to see if the deleted files are there, then empty the trash. What happens then is Aperture also deletes the files that remain in the project from which I had just deleted files! I looked in my imac's regular trash and the the files from the project weren't there--poof--gone! After going through this a few times, I happened to notice some "mystery" projects appeared in my library: "Untitled Project (1)"; "Untitled Project (2)" and so on (four of them).
In these "untitled projects": The mysteriously deleted files from MY project! HUH? Aperture moved the files from my created project into an "Untitled Project" after emptying the trash. Now THAT--is weird....Help!

The files I deleted were masters (raw/jpeg) that I knew I didn't want/need in the project--no other versions were created from them--they were just looked at then deleted. So the files that remained in the project that Aperture moved into an "Untitled Folder" were unrelated to the deleted files. The fact I seem to be the only one with this issue is even stranger to me . Is Apple Feedback the best (only?) avenue to report this bug?

  • Emptying the trash can in iphoto causes the grey exclamation point.

Shortly after buying my new mac I made the cardinal error of manipulating some of my photos directly through finder, and ended up totally messing up my iphoto library. It's basically fine now, after much heartache - and I back up disc copies regularly and I also use time machine now. However, the other day I noticed there was a ridiculous amount of photos in my iphoto trash can - so I emptied the trash can in iphoto. I immediately got the grey exclamation point of death back in probably one third of my pictures. I restored the library from time machine, and the ex points went away, but does this mean that the link is bouncing THROUGH my trash can to get to the file? Is there any way for me to safely empty that trash can without having to once again rebuild my photo library?? (I'm a total shutterbug and don't want or need that hassle...)
I'm running the new iphoto 09 - but the problem was there before I installed the upgrade.
Something tells me OldToad is going to reply to this one... (At least I'm hoping...)
Thanks for any and all input.

Well hello, Old Toad, thought you might find us.
Terence, last night I backed up my library in time machine, emptied the trash can in iphoto (took five or six attempts, iphoto kept shutting down) and then rebuilt the library. Just an fyi, when I said ridiculous amount, I meant it - there are 26000 plus photos in my trash can. (I know why, but I think it's unimportant to this issue).
When I rebuilt it found 13000 plus photos to reinstate. I said ok, and around three hours later it was all said and done. No change, I still have the grey exclamation point of death on about a third of my photos in the events. The reinstated photos are all in an album, not an event - I can't seem to move them from the album into an event, and there aren't a lot of them there anyways that I'm all that attached to.
    SO...
I restored the backup copy from time machine. Tonight, I will try OldToad's recommendation and try to put these photos back into their original homes, but with that many pics It may be Tuesday or so before you here back from me...
Wish me luck, thanks SO MUCH for the suggestions, and I'll keep you posted.

  • I have iphoto 08 version 7.1.5.  I copied photos from recent - last import into albums.  I then deleted the photos and emptied the trash. Today all the albums are empty and the photos are nowhere in the library.  Have I lost them all?

OK, here are a set of screenshots with my step by step - maybe you will be able to spot where I've gone awry:
I find a photo in the Library that I will delete from an album:
I go down to my Albums and find the picture in one of them:
I hover over the pic so the little down arrow appears in the bottom right-hand corner. I click on it, then click on the Trash Can in the window that drops down:
    Gone from the Album:
    Gone from the Library:
    In the Trash:
    Whaddup with that?

  • I am using iPhoto 2009.  If I empty the trash bin, will it delete those pictures from albums I have created?  I noticed some of the pictures appear to be the same in both the trash and album.

I have a lot of photos in my trash bin and was thinking about emptying the trash.  However, I got a message that said that if emptied, I would not be able to recover them.  I chickened out.  I looked at several pictures in the trash and noticed that they were the same pictures in albums that I had created.  I compared the numbers shown on those pictures in the trash and found that they were the same as the numbers shown in on the pictures in the albums that I had created.  I would like to delete the pictures to create more space, but I don't want to lose pictures that I can't replace.

yes - albums are not copies or places - they are pointers in the databae pointing to the photo in the library - you can see it in an album, under photos or under events - but it is all the same photo - if you delete it it is gone everyplace - and no additiponal space is used for an album (or many albums - a photo can be in many albums without using any additional space
Only put photos that you do not want to keep in the trash
How much free space do you have on the disk volume that the iPhoto library is on?

  • Unable to empty the Trash in iPhoto.

I'm unable to empty the Trash in iPhoto.  I have uploaded all my photos to iPhotos and then deleted any duplicates.  Consequently I have 33,000 photos in the trash but every time I select 'Empty Trash', the iPhoto app crashes.  Any Ideas?

iPhoto has a big problem, if the Trash is too full. Put only small numbers of photos in the trash, to delete at once.
To solve this, put the images back into an event, and trash them again, in smaller installments, no more than 1000 images at a time.
The question is, how to remove them from the trash, without having to track them down again - if you use the "Put Back" command, all photos will be restored to their projects. I'd suggest you create a new project "MyTrash" and add a new image to it, so that this project will appear as the current "Recent Project". Drag your images from the Trash to this recent project; leave only 1000 or less images in the trash; then try to empty trash. If this succeeds, continue to trash images from the "My Trash" project, until all are gone. You might wish to empty the system Trash in between.

  • IPhoto 5.0 - How to empty the trash?

It seems so simple when I read the directions in the program "help" menu- it says "hit the delete button" - but all I get is a tone when I hit the delete key on the keyboard....the photo is selected, of course, but nothing gets deleted.
I see the trash on the left side of the library display - but I cannot seem to locate any command that empties this.
I have SO many bad pix in the ones that loaded in from my digital camera, and I need to start cleaning things up here.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I contracted Security Tool the same way about ten minutes ago on my Win7 Home Premium laptop. Firefox prompted me to do an immediate update the way it normally does, with a convincing update screen that looks like the typical Mozilla update prompt. However, the installer I downloaded was in fact "Security Tool." The program firewalls Firefox to prevent searches and also prevents access to Task Manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del. On the surface this appears to be a particularly nasty strain of malware / scamware, and FF users need to be warned and/or innoculated immediately.
