Spent hour writing comment. Meant to use backspace to backspace but it went to prior page. Lost all that was written. Why not redesign FF so that this never happens to anyone again. Let it be able to go forward to EXACTLY where you were in the text entry field with text intact. Please and thankyou!

Disable the need of the function key when using the control key

I'm often using the F1-12 keys when using an IDE for developing. Those IDE's use the CTR+F1-12 shortcuts quite a bit and it's always needed to use FN+CTR+F1-12 which is ridiculous and redundant. Is there a way to keep using the functions assigned to F1-12 (Adjust volume, brightness...) without pressing the function key and be able of using CTR or ALT +F1-12 without the need of pressing the function key?

According to the system help text it is possible. And for me it works as described in the help text on my MacBook Pro.
But on my Mac Pro (late 2013) the relevant control (“Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys”) is missing form System Preferences >> Keyboard >> Keyboard.

HT4859 How can I retrieve a note accidentally deleted from my Iphone that was never synced or backed-up to ICould?

Hey, so I was actively working on a note when I accidentally deleted it. I hadn't synced my Ipod to my computer or had my phone turned off so that it could sync to ICloud between when I did all the work lost on the note and when I deleted it. How do I get it back for free? I downloaded a program that found the deleted note easy enough but then wanted me to pay $99 for their program to get it. There has to be a way to get it for free.

How do I retrieve lost voice memo that WASN'T backed up?

While updating to the new IOS 7.1, my phone froze and went into recovery mode. I had to do a reset and update and then restore from a backup file which took upwards of an hour. Oh joy. I try to back up my Iphone 4s to my Macbook often so I didn't lose too much during the reset except for a very important voice memo.
My question is, is there any way to retrieve that voice memo lost during the update if it wasn't backed up? I've tried iExplorer and some other data recovery software but they are only able to extract what is already available on the phone or from a previous back up. I called into my local Apple store and they referred me to a super expensive data recovery specialist. I've heard of USB sticks, Iphone Data Recovery sticks that are supposed to be able to retrieve old data from when you first bought your phone. But they are expensive as well and I'm not entirely sold that it'll work for me.
Does anyone know of any alternative methods? Or if it's even possible to retrieve lost data after a reset? I'm desperate to get this voice memo back so thanks for any help!

No. It's gone. And you can ignore the spamvertisements that are sure to pop up touting data recovery software. The only thing they are going to recover is your money... straight into their own pockets.

Retrieving Lost Text After Burning CD's?

Unbelievable! I wanted to back up my iTunes purchases by burning onto disks. 15 disks to be exact. All went well and they are great. EXCEPT, yours truly forgot to check the 'add cd text' in preferences. I'm not going to reburn them, as that would be a great waste. But is there anyway to retrieve the text so that it displays when these disks are being played? Or do I need to print out the list and then manually add the text for ALL 300 songs?
And as a follow up.... I have never checked the 'add cd text' before burning a cd and this is the first time that's happened. They were all songs purchased from iTunes too. Any help for this?

Hint: For backing up iTunes Store purchases, audio CDs are not a good way to go. If you ever needed to recover the files you purchased, you'd have to rip the audio CDs into a lossless format (WAV, AIFF, or Apple Lossless) in order to avoid losing sound quality. In the end, you'd have files way bigger than the originals were. I would recommend just backing up the actual purchased files to another hard drive or to CDs/DVDs.
I appreciate your advice on the backups NoName. I'm fairly new to computers (this is my first) and I do plan to get an external drive. But as a last desperate resort in case everything ever went wrong, I wanted to just get them somewhere for now. But I hear Ya' and I will do that as soon as I am able!

I ran into a strange behavior when using Safari Browser (Mac and Windows) when opening the page.
As long as the process retrieves less than 50 rows everything works fine. The data is pulled from the OnDemand Process and delivered to the browser; the XML Data can be selected in JS for further processing

When calling for more then 50 rows Safaris shows a POST Error -1001 and no Data is delivered.
This occurs only on some Mac's and my Dev WIN-XP PC using SF Browser; never on iPad/iPhone . Never when using FF on Mac or PC.
I googled a lot of different Sources, it seems to be a Timeout Problem when making a long runing AJAX Call. But i did not find any useful hint.
Any Ideas from the APEX & HTTP Gurus?

It's just that in my experience htmldb_Get.get() is troublesome for browsers, due to the fact it performs a synchronous request. The browser can do nothing else while it waits for the response. I've seen Firefox really struggle with it in the past couple years. Also, I've seen no good reason to use synchronous XMLHttpRequest calls. As you can see, it's simple to refactor a call to htmldb_Get.get() into a call to htmldb_Get.GetAsync().
For your case in particular, I was just guessing Safari have implemented a timeout to ensure that they don't end up waiting indefinitely for a request that never returns as this would be fatal. You're probably hitting that timeout.

There is also a pure jQuery way to perform AJAX request, I recommend using this because at least it's documented. Here's a snippet of a typical APEX AJAX request done the jQuery way:

In other words, I emptied out a folder on my main MAC to make space and the next subsequent backup backed up the EMPTY FOLDER and then deleted the "old backup" that actually contained the contents of the very important folder.
Now only the emptied folder exists on my MAC and in the two backups on my Time machine backup drive.
This was clearly a big mistake on my part not realizing that the "old backup" being deleted by Time Machine would include backed up files that I had no intention of getting rid of....
What can I do now?
Is DATA RETREIVAL even an option?
I am sure that the Folder of files that I need are on the most recently deleted "OLD BACKUP" but how do I get to this, if even possible?????
Super desperate situation here...

It may be possible to recover some of the data, if it hasn't been overwritten, but it won't be cheap or easy.
You've posted in the Time Capsule forum, but you mention a "backup drive." If your backups are on a Time Capsule's internal HD, instead of an external HD, it's even worse.

JTable text alignment issues when using JPanel as custom TableCellRenderer

I'm having some difficulty with text alignment/border issues when using a custom TableCellRenderer. I'm using a JPanel with GroupLayout (although I've also tried others like FlowLayout), and I can't seem to get label text within the JPanel to align properly with the other cells in the table. The text inside my 'panel' cell is shifted downward. If I use the code from the DefaultTableCellRenderer to set the border when the cell receives focus, the problem gets worse as the text shifts when the new border is applied to the panel upon cell selection. 1) When first run, the text in the custom renderer column is shifted downward slightly.
2) Once a cell in the column is selected, it shifts down even farther.

1) LayoutManagers need to take the border into account so the label is placed at (1,1) while labels just start at (0,0) of the cell rect. Also the layout manager tend not to shrink component below their minimum size. Setting the labels minimum size to (0,0) seems to get the same effect in your example. Doing the same for maximum size helps if you set the row height for the JTable larger. Easier might be to use BorderLayout which ignores min/max for center (and min/max height for west/east, etc).
2) DefaultTableCellRenderer uses a 1px border if the UI no focus border is null, you don't.
3) Include a setDefaultCloseOperation is a SSCCE please. I think I've got a hunderd test programs running now :P.

Reference vs Managed when using Back up Service

What is the best protocol for storing photo libraries when using a service like SugarSync or Dropbox for photo managing? I've found that services like Dropbox and Sugarsync don't like the way iPhoto packages it's contents. They ignore some of the package files and if you are storing a libary this could lead to corrupt photo library. I also don't like the hacky way that you'd have to make those services just backup the masters. I've had issues restoring from both.
Has anyone used these services that also use iPhoto? Best practices to recommend?

The major problem with a "referenced" library is that if the library is launched with the source files not mounted that will break the link/file path between the library and the soruce files.
Bringing the source files back online will not restore the links. Each photo must be manually relinked via this warning:
Usually if one photo is relinked all the photos in that folder will be relinked. If you have many events or folder it results in a lot of effort to get a working library again.

Safari 5.1 reloads page when using back button or gesture

Safari has the strange behavior of reloading pages "navigated to" using the back button or gesture. Most other browsers I've worked with pull from cache when using the back button. I don't think this behavior is compliant with standards - defacto as they may be.
An example of why this is wrong is the navigation of this forum. I just loaded Lion and need to use the forum for support. When navigating back from a particular post to the list of posts the page will reload. Needless to say several hundred posts have been entered since last looking at the list and I subsequently lose the context of what I read last. The list of posts from cache which I orginally looked at should be returned - not the latest updated one. Let me choose when to refresh a page from the cache.
I downloaded Google Chrome to compare behaviors. Chrome does not reload pages navigated to using the back button - it pulls the pages from cache.
I've looked at the configuration of Safari and see no options to configure this behavior.

Switch from one finger swipe to two finger swipe
ok, since i do not have a trackpad, i used my magic mouse. I changed my swipe between pages from one finger to two and my pages no longer re-loaded. Changing that option back to one finger swipe then set my pages to re-load our setting are slightly differnt, but were looking for the same outcome. Lood for a "Swipe between pages option. Then look for a drop down triangle. now change your swipe left or right with two fingers to one. this should re-load your pages now ;-)

Apple wireless keyboard won't let me delete without using the fn key.

My apple wireless keyboard won't let me delete in indesign without using the fn key. Is there a key command that I accidentally hit that causes that or something? I've never had this happen before. It isn't happening in any other program, just indesign cs4. Has anyone had this happen and how do I fix it?

I figured it out. My keyboard shortcut set in indesign was corrupt. I went back to the default set and created a new set and the delete key started working again.

How do I turn off the requirement to press control when using a function key

When using my wireless keyboard, it requires me to press controls to use the function keys (F3, F5, F70.) However, this makes it so some of my games controls won' work,(For example, in Minecraft I can't access the debug menu.) Is there any way to disable this.Thank you for your support

Please take these steps if you're prompted for a password when moving items in your home folder to the Trash.
1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
