There are a few things you can do to copy your songs from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Help - not able to access files stored on ipod

I really need some help. I recently used my ipod to transfer files from my old windows based pc to my new imac. My ipod still has the disk use enabled, and when I open itunes, i can see that there is still a significant volume of files still stored on the ipod. This is good as I really need some of these files and my old pc literally blew up yesterday! The problem is that when I open the ipod disk from the desktop, the open window does not contain any files in it. I know the files are there, and this is supported by the "other" space used up on the ipod. Can anyone tell me how I might retrieve these files as there are some that are vitally important to me? Thanks.

  • How do I move mp3 files from my iPod to my computer?

    Short version:
I need to move music from my iPod to my computer so I can fix ID3 (or AAC) tags on the mp3 files, then move the same, corrected mp3 files back to the iPod.
    Long version:
I used to have a Pioneer car stereo with iPod control. It displayed all of the song information correctly. I got a new car about a year ago that didn't have iPod control. Today, I finally got a new stereo that supports full iPod control. I plugged in my iPod for the first time in over a year (I only use it in my car). The files may have become corrupt or something while my iPod has been collecting dust, but now the song title, artist, and album are all displayed as the song title.
    Instead of:
    Gimme Shelter
    Rolling Stones
    Greatest Hits
    It displays:
    Gimme Shelter
    Gimme Shelter
    Gimme Shelter
The real head scratcher for me is that it only does this on some songs. Maybe 10% of the songs still have the ID3 tag intact (although the album art doesn't display so I want to fix that anyway).
I don't use the iTunes store. All of the music that is on my iPod was legally purchased as CDs and ripped to my old computer years ago. I don't have that computer any more, and I no longer have the mp3 library that was on it. I don't want to go through the hassle of ripping all of my music from my CD library back to my computer, import it to iTunes, then copy it over to my iPod. It seems like I should be able to transfer my ripped mp3 library from my iPod into my new computer, fix the ID3 tags, then copy them back to my iPod.
I'm using an old 30GB iPod Video. I have no use for upgrading it to something new.
    I found this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
But it explicitly states that it won't work with music that wasn't purchased from the iTunes store (which mine wasn't). I really wish that Apple didn't think it knew what was best for me and would let me use the hardware that I purchased the way that I want to use it. Is there any third party software or anything that will help me do what I need to do?

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • How to make automatic download for mp3 files [80 gb of mp3 files stored in GoDaddy]

I'm building this site --> Matthew
I want my visitors to download the mp3 simply by clicking the "down" blue icon. But here's the challenge, I can't do "Link to File" cause I have a lot mp3 files [80 gb total]. I believe Muse can't carry those in one file. I already stored those in my GoDaddy account.
Right click "Save Links as.." is not an option.
Hopefully there's another way to do it.

  • How do I store mp3 files on my IPOD but leave uncompressed files in iTunes?

I always buy uncompressed files and I want to keep them uncompressed in iTunes so I always have a copy of the best fidelity on my computer (for burning CD's). However I only want to store compressed files (MP3 or whatever other compression option is available) on my iPOD (or at least I want to be able to choose the format for my iPOD). I couldn't find a way to do this without changing the format of what is on my hard drive. Any ideas?
    Thanks

I get duplicates when I convert my 320 kbps mp3 files to 128 kbps AAC files for my Nano. I'm not sure if I set something in my preferences to make sure the original file stays intact. Why don't you try converting one song (that you can reimport if necessary) to make sure that you get duplicates too. Just to be safe. If you don't get a duplicate, post back and I try to figure out how I have my iTunes set up to duplicate converted songs rather than replace them.

  • I cannot copy or transfer mp3 files stored on external drive back into itunes so i can listen to book again

    Hi,
I mostly use itunes for listening to audiobooks which I have been collecting for years. Have hundreds of them. A few years ago when computer too full and my itunes library too big I carefully copied the books onto an external hard drive as mp3 files and then removed them from itunes. (At that stage I really wanted a non itunes library backup as I had already lost library a couple of times....now I understand the itunes back up a bit more and can use it.)
However I have lots of my favourite books on an external drive and I want to listen to them again. I cannot go to the folder holding a book, select all the the mp3 files that make up the book and drag them into my itunes music file as I can with a mp3 disc. There are 73 files on the first book i want to move!
Itunes has been selected as the default player and will play the files but I cannot transfer them.
Under details on a file it reads NOT PROTECTED
I am  the administrator of my computer, indeed am its only user.
Cannot think of anything else that might  be useful.
    hope you can help
    Elizabeth

luckily that is also backed up on the external drive too so I'll try looking there, but do you have any thoughts on why I can't get the backed up files to stay on the PC correctly ? because until they are back on my PC I can't use it or get the rankings back right?

  • Retrieve Binary File stored in DB

    Hello,
I am able to store PDF, MS word, MS Excel files as Binary files to MS Sql Server 2008.
How do I retrive these files on the view page.
I need to hyperlink the files, so when User clicks it opens or prompts for download.

Well... they hyperlink should go to a CFM file which queries the DB for the file content then outptus that with the correct MIME type set for the file in question.
However getting CF to do this is a really inefficient approach to such things: you're gonna want to keep an eye on what percentage of your CF threads get tied up serving files like that.
Is there any reason you can't serve the files from the file system, rather than from the DB via CF?

  • How To Transfer MP3 Files from HD to IPOD?

I just got a new 30GB IPOD which I assume is the latest model. It came in a black box and says part number "PA149LL/A", but has no model number on the box.
The published web documentation for this is WRONG, and hard copy instruction with the unit is NON EXISTENT. I have no idea how to get music from MP3 files on my hard drive onto this thing.
I went to preferences and set the music file address to the folder which contains all of my MP3 files. I also set it to "manual" mode for music creation. I tried to create a playlist.
I can not get any way to "find" a music file through the ITunes screen. None of the screen graphics look like what is posted on the apple web site help material.
FYI: it did dump a ton of these same MP3 files onto the Ipod when I let it go in "automatic mode".... which I wanted to then remove when I realized half the files didn't have valid tags the Ipod could recognize so they were not filed correctly.
I tried to delete the songs from the Ipod as instructed on the website using: "clear" the playlist, and then command the thing to update the Ipod playlist. My first lesson courtesy the 800 phone help line: it can't do that unless you put it into "manual" mode, contrary to what the web site says.
Is there any place to go to get accurate operating instructions for THIS model?
I am not exactly a computer moron. I design PC hardware and power supplies for a living and have three college degrees. This thing needs some basic instructions on how to do a few things..... like load and play music.
Any advice would be appreciated on how to get this Itunes software to see or access my MP3 files stored in a folder on my desktop. I set the address in the preferences, but that did not help.
I'm not even sure exactly how or where the "search" files should appear when looking through Itunes?

Part numbers beginning with P are usually promotion items.
You can buy a stack of 'em & give to employees, grand openings, etc.
They are the same as regular retail iPod, just a different model number. http://www.apple.com/ipod/imaging/
Looks like you have a black, 30GB video iPod.
Here's a great place to start to learn how to use iTunes and the iPod.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/
I went to preferences and set the music file address to the folder which contains all of my MP3 files. I
That will tell iTunes to use this folder. iTunes does not "watch" this folder to see if anything is added. You have to add it to the library yourself and iTunes will put it in this folder under Artist -> Album.
If you IMport a file, it will convert it to the format set in teh iTUnes prefs. If you Add a file, it will simply add it to the library in the format it already is.
    To get music into iTunes;
    - insert a CD and select Import.
    - click on iTunes Music Store and purchase songs.
    - go to iTunes menu - File -> Add (Folder or file) to library and select the file/folder.
    - Drag songs onto iTunes.
    To get music onto the iPod;
    - Plug it in.
Yeah, it really is that simple.
Easiest way to manage your library is to use iTunes.
Edit the ID3 tags, add delete songs and put them onto the iPod.

  • How can I transfer mp3 files from my PC to my Ipod Touch 4?

I have an Ipod Touch 4 that was given to me. I use it almost exclusively to listen to audio books downloaded from various libraries. Once upon a time long ago I did manage to download some music (mp3 files) to the Ipod but I have no idea how. Now I would like to transfer some additional mp3 files to the Ipod but I have no idea how to do so and I have not been able to find any instructions that make sense using Google. I should also mention that I find ITunes to be the most confusing non-discoverable software I have every encountered. The instructions for dummies won't do. When it comes to ITunes I need the instructions for someone who can just barely find the on/off switch with both hands in daylight. Thanks for any help.

  • RETRIEVE OF ETXT FILE STORED IN BLOB

    Hi,
I have a question on utl file. I wrote some text in an utl file (text file) and stored it as blob in data base at back end while my team mate has to retrieve the data stored in blob in front end using java. when he retrieves, the file which i stored as blob is retrieved as html file not as text file i stored initially . when we retrieve a file stored as blob, how a blob file will be retrieved..is it depends on front end programmer or is there any format where a file stored as blob will be retrieved only on that format? Kindly give your expertise on this question

As Billy said, the passing through correct mime type is the only reliable way. If you have already loaded tons of blobs without providing this information, you may try a small workaround to determine the right mime type for your files by emulating the file utility behaviour in the database - you have to load the /etc/mime-magic or something similar for your os into the database and then compare certain bytes of your lobs with those recorded in the mime-magic file. An example how it can be done is here
    http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-9592_11-5219073.html
You could so complete the missing information in the database without to unload your data , but you should be aware - this can not replace the need to provide right mime type information by loading into database.
    Best regards

  • Cannot copy mp3 files to ipod after 4.3.1 OS update

I updated my iPod Touch to 4.3.1. Now when I open iTunes and try to copy mp3 files to my iPod the cursor turns into a circle with a line across it indicating I cannot copy the files. I manually sync as I select a few items from my PC library. This method has worked fine for years. Only failed after 4.3.1 update. Any ideas? I have rebooted both PC and iPod several times. No joy.

    Hey PlanB77,
Here's why I know the problem is Apple and NOT a problem with the aftermarket cables.
I have a total of (6) aftermarket cables. These cables support several Apple devices (iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Nano, and iPad)in different locations. All (6) of these aftermarket cables have worked just fine for many months. After the update to 4.3.1 on my iPod Touch, NONE of these cables work on my iPod Touch, but the original Apple iPod cable works fine. These aftermarket cables still work fine on my other Apple products that have not been updated.
It is beyond comprehension that all (6) aftermarket cables have failed only on my iPod Touch while working fine on all my other Apple devices. Hence my comment, Apple has become truly pathetic. They now demand your dollars for overpriced cables. As this change to the OS is without a public announcement and after I have purchased cables from other vendors I stand by my conclusion.
Oh, and Apple wants to charge for support to tell you why their OS 4.3.1 upgrade broke your product. That adds insult to injury.

  • Ipod skips mp3 files

I recorded an audio book on tapes to wave files and then converted the wave files to mp3. I added these mp3 files

these file to AAC and same thing happens. What can I do?

    1. suggest you use freeware Audacity to record to mp3 files to begin with -- much smaller than wav files and don't require a second conversion -- and split up into smaller files. Record at not too much more than the ultimate kbps rate you want. Suggest 32-48 kbps for audio spoken word files is adequate. Use line in from a stereo audio cassette player, etc (see guide below)
    2. Then, you are probably creating too-large files. The iLounge consensus used to be 5 hours/300mb max for satisfactory play, but now maybe 13.5 hours. have a look at this post:

    3. I think that if you use higher bit rates and sampling rates, you will approach the limit at shorter time length files. I would love to have a definitive answer on this.

  • New updates won't transfer any MP4 or MP3 files anymore!

Ok... before the itune and ipod update, I've had absolutely no problem transfering my mp4 video files or my mp3 files into my ipod. I usually just drag the icons from my folder to itunes.
Now after updating in itunes 7 and updating my ipod through it, I cant transfer any mp4 or mp3 files anymore?!?!? What the heck? It will show it transfering at the top (of itunes) but I cant locate ANY of the new files I placed in my ipod. I ALWAYS use manual update and I dont want to change it because I dont want to lose all of my stuff on my ipod.
What the heck is the problem???

WAIT A SEC!!!! i think i've figured it out... just DOUBLE check and TRIPLE check that you have the LATEST version of quicktime... I thought I did, but as it turned out, i had version 7.0.4 when the latest is 7.1. So after i upgraded quicktime, itunes worked fine, and i was able to load videos onto both itunes and my ipod successfully.... even the 1.2 update stopped causing problems. Once again, just MAKE SURE you have the latest update of quicktime. You don't need to go pro, just make sure you have 7.1. I hope this works for everyone like it did for me...

There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.
