Retrieving purchased music??

Ok, so I lost all of my music last month when my computer went crazy. I got rid of that computer, and now have a new one. I have a record of having bought several CDs through itunes (on my old computer), but obviously those songs aren't in my new library's computer. There isn't a way to get the purchased music back is there? If there is, please let me know! Thanks.

This is why it is important to back up your music. You need to develop a good backup strategy to protect your music. If the music is on your iPod, you can purchase third party software that will allow you to rip your iPod library onto your iTunes. There are several programs out there such as CopyPod, YamiPod, iPod Transfer, etc.
The iTunes Music Store does tell you that you need to back up your music when you purchase it. It would be like if you lost a CD you bought at Best Buy and expected them to replace it because you lost it. It is your responsibility. Try an External Hard drive or burning your Library onto Data DVD's or CD's.

The songs are no longer on my ipod, however they are in my library but it says, The File couldn't be >found, will the program still beable to help me with this?
Oooh! I am sorry to say but you won't be able to get it back if the songs aren't on your iPod. And in this case the program would not be able to help you. You would have to have the songs on your iPod in order for the program to help you.

Any iTunes content that is downloaded by your iPhone including 3rd party apps should be transferred to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes on your computer after doing so. All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer.

  • Can't retrieve purchased music without a backup...

even though I have a reciept in my email showing that I made a purchase for a particular album. I have an order confirmation number. Can anyone verify wether or not this means that I have to purchase the album again or just enter my information and retrieve my purchase. HELP! This should not be a difficult/costly fix. Surely, if one has proof of a purchase, one can just retrieve the info and restock it in one's library without having to BUY the item AGAIN.

I have to purchase the album again
Probably. Creating the backup was your responsibility.

Apple pays a royalty for each song download, so they usually require that you need to pay as well. Click here if you want to ask anyway.

By any chance, did you have the Find My iPhone app installed prior to it being stolen?

Hopefully you had your iTunes purchases backed up to an external source such as an external drive or CD's?

  • HT201272 I lost my itunes library, now i tried to retrieve the music i purchased from apple and i am only getting part of it!

Cant retrieve the music i purchased from apple videos etc,
I called cust service she want me to pay 49 us dollars for a tech support I told her i dont need tech support i do need my files that i purchased available for download, she insisted I hang up.
I need help from you guys, I am student full time so no extra cash to pay for apple bills.
    regards

    Sue,
I recommend an external drive to maintain your music.  All your purchases are held in iCloud...so redownloading should be easy.  Also, Home sharing is a great way to transfer to a new computer, but in the case of hard drive failure your options are limited.  Home sharing is specifically for transferring to another pc.  Good luck!

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • I'd like to retrieve previously purchased music

I can't find the link but apparently there is one to help me retrieve the music that I've purchased through iTunes without paying for the same stuff again. Or can someone walk me through it please?

    Beerdo,
Apple's policy is clear: songs purchased from iTMS can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups .
That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to their policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/purchase.html
Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

It is probably not wise to leave your e-mail and phone number on a public forum.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
    You purchase one download only.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

  • Issues Retrieving Already Purchased Music

Today I had purchased two albums off iTunes through my phone. Everything downloaded and I got my music. When I got home, I went to transfer my purchased music from my phone to my computer. That didn't go as planned because not all of the songs transfered and now both my phone and computer are missing 2 songs from the first album and 12-13 songs from the second album. I tried going back to my purchased area to redownload the music from cloud, but all of the music I had already downloaded only showed up. The missing songs did not show up. It would be nice to have all my music and not just bits and pieces. Would appreciate any help.

If the tracks don't appear in your Purchased area of the iTunes Store at all, go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
    Regards.
