Retrieving sample basic using Excel add in

Hi I am having problems accessing the sample basic database using excel, I see the sample basic in Application/Database and I get an error which states that "Unable to load database[Basic]". I get this error for all the the sample databases. The system administrator said the databases were installed with the essbase, but I still can't retrieve them. Anyone has any suggestions as to why this may be occurring.Thanks,

It's not a problem with the Add-In.The database was not Installed correctly. You need to rebuild the Sample Basic application. Can you check to see if all the DB files were installed.Look in the C:\essbase\app\Sample\Basic directory you should see these files, or atleast the outline.Basic.otlBasic.indBasic.esmBasic.tctEss000001.INDEss000001.PAGDo you know how to do this? There are no standard steps.
If you wish to just cross check the data which has been loaded in cube ,then Identify the level 0 combination of members in data source from where cube is picking up data (Oracle,flat file ..etc) and retrieve the same combination through excel addin and compare the data.

Retrieving of exchange rate - Excel Add-in/Planning

We have entered exchange rates in Hyperion Planning desktop andrefreshed it to Essbase. We would like to be able to retrievethese rates in Essbase Addin and have not been able to do itdespite retrieving all the possible combinations ofdimensional members. You will be able to use Essbase Excel Add-in to view the exchange rates. They are stored under the HSP_Rates dimension. Just make sure that you use the dimension name itself during member selection for Entities, Versions, and Currencies dimensions. Select the members for each dimension as follows: Scenarios: (scenario associated with the exchange rate table) Years: (year(s) to which the rates apply) Time Periods: (level zero time period(s) to which the rates apply) Versions: "Versions" Currencies: "Currencies" Entities: "Entities" Accounts: "HSP_Average", "HSP_Ending" or "HSP_Historical" HSP_Rates: "HSP_Rate_currencycode" eg. "HSP_Rate_USD" -Shoba

Essbase error msg while using Excel add-in: data item found before member

We're encountering an Essbase error message "data item found before member" on 2 of 4 cubes. Has anyone else encountered this msg, and does anyone have an idea how to resolve it. It occurs on multiple machines in development and testing environments.

As dougadams said, some members can be converted by Excel so that essbase no longer treats them as labels. Typically this includes numeric member names (i.e. accounts) and dates. I find the dates to be more of an issue than numeric member names, because it typically changes the date format as well. Either way, using a single quote as a prefix to the member name will tell Excel to treat it as a text entry, and hence a member/label to Essbase.The above is almost always the reason for the error you got. Of course, it's also possible that you really do have a numeric entry somewhere before your first 'data cell' in the template, especially if you did some manipulation of the template.

Can we retrieve Data of Single Dimension in multiplecolumns in Excel Add-in

I have strange requirement of having single dimension in two columns while retrieving data from essbase using Excel Add-In.
Logically I feel it is not possible however we are looking if there is any possibilty of work arround for this requirement.
Whenevr i am trying to retrieve data using a macro on a single column we are able to successfully do it. But in case of multiple columns we are unable to do it.Do let us know if there is any work arround or alternative method to handle this requirement.

Not completely sure what you mean by "single dimension in two columns". Normally this request comes down to wanting to show multiple levels from a dimension, e.g...
_______________"Sales"
"100" "100-10" 12345
"100" "100-20" 34567...which is definitely not possible.
If you just mean data like this (with multiple columns from the same dimension)...
________"100-10" "100-20"
"Sales" 12345 34567...then that should work fine.
If you could post a sample of what you'd like to see, it would be easier to answer.

Excel Add-in Retrieve issue

I have a user SAMSHRE who was able to do retrieve in Excel add in, however, suddenly, the members is not being able to do retrieve using Excel add-in. Is there anything I need to look at to solve this issue.

Hi,
To solve the issue, you have to check first the security. Try to connect to Essbase from his computer using another user.
If it works you have to check the security configuration. So, you have to check the user roles and the security filters.
If it doesn't work, try to close all Excel, and disable/enable the add-in of his computer.

Essbase - Data not saving in excel add in

Hi everyone,
This is my first time building a cube from scratch and would appreciate if you guys can point me to the right direction. I am currently running into issues with saving data using Excel add in. I have a BSO cube with 6 small dimensions (Currently with less than 15 members in each) + 2 additional attribute dimensions. I created the cube manually in EAS and did a sample data load through a flat file without any issues.
I have been able to use the Excel add in to retrieve the sample data and navigate the tree without any issues as well. However when I tried to retrieve/lock and send , manual changes on the grid, the data doesn't seem to save. When I hit retrieve my changes are gone.
I haven't made too many changes to the default settings but have checked that the application allows for updates and that I have the Application Manager Application access as well. Are there any settings I should look into that might be causing this?

two possible issues
1. The member you are trying to send data to is a dynamically calculated member
2. you are trying to send data to a member that is the only child of a parent and the parent is not tagged as never share. If there is a one to one relationship between a child and parent, there is an implied share that is created. The NEver Share on the parent will fix that.

We worked with oracle on this , and here are the steps provided by them
If you do not use the Visual Explorer functionality from within Essbase Excel Add-in, you can eliminate the error by renaming two files.
1. Navigate to the \Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin directory
2. Rename the file so the extension is not an executable, i.e. hve.exe to hve.exe.ORIG
3. Rename the DLL file so it is not a valid data link library file, i.e. hve.dll to hve.dll.ORIG
and also bug has been raised with number 8214299.

Essbase Excel Add-in in 11.1.2.1

We want to migrate to Essbase 11.1.2.1 but we still want to use Excel Add-In, as we have VBA Macros.

So what's the issue? The add-in is alive and well in Essbase 11.1.2.1.
You might want to look at the very latest and greatest version of Smart View as it gives you near parity (really, really, really close) with the add-in. Yes, I know, VBA requirements, but worth a look.

Excel add-in warning

I am using Excel- add in for unicode cubes. I am getting the warning
Essbase Warning
The application chosen is a Unicode application,however the addin is not fully unicode enabled.As such,some characters may not display correctly. Do you wish to proceed?
I turned off warnings in the options dialog box. But i am still getting the above Essbase warning.
Can you suggest me what to do to turn off these warnings while using Excel-Addin?

where can I find the Thisworkbook module??^^^It's the workbook module in the currently open workbook. If you hit Alt-F11 in Excel, you'll get dumped into the VBA editor. If you do that, by default, over on the left you'll see a Project browser, under the Microsoft Excel Objects node, Sheet1 is the selected object. ThisWorkbook is the module name of the workbook object.
For giggles, in the VBA editor, type Ctrl+G. You should see the Immediate window. Then type:
?thisworkbook.name
You should see a response (in the case of a just-opened Excel with one workbook) like this:
Book1
You can go to the event ThisWorkbook.Workbook_Open and stick code in there.
I personally would want to limit Application.DisplayAlerts and be sure to turn it back on when done. Changes to the Application object are global to life of the Excel instance.

Excel Add-in: TxsOqConnection::getDefaultDatabase

Using Excel Add-in against a 10(.2.0.3.0)g database, I've started getting a connection error after entering username/password (see error below).
This has been working fine and is now suddenly giving this error; no database configuration changes were made.

Simple Qustion: No data shown in the retrieval of Sample.Basic database

I'm a very beginner to Essbase, I'm getting started with essbase add-in tutorial, when I retrieve the data from Sample.Basic, it only returned the dimension names, there is no data in the intersections, it show #Missing in the cells, the tutorial shows there are data in the sample.basic database, why am I not able to get it displayed?, thank you so much

Just a comment about my nemesis' note:
You need to load data and potentially calculate it (I know Cameron you don't but it does not hurt).^^^The reason you don't need to calculate the data is because CALCDAT.txt already contains the consolidated results. Glenn is correct in saying that calculation doesn't hurt, but there's really no point.
FWIW, the reason there's no point is because CALCDAT.txt is a full export of Sample.Basic, that is, every valued data point is contained within the data file. Thus, when calculation occurs it just overwrites the data values that were already loaded.
As we are talking about a second or so to do the calculation, this matters not a whit, but I thought it might be instructive when you finally get to a real database. Full exports, when loaded back into an empty Essbase database, do not need to be recalculated.

Add bookmarks to pdf file using Excel VBA

I have, through internet searches, created an Excel macro that prints numerous workbooks to pdf, combines them into one file and prints that file. I have been searching for the last piece, which is adding bookmarks, but have not had any luck getting any of it to work. The following is the code that I am using to add the bookmarks -

This code does insert a bookmark on the first page of the document. The bookmark title displays as Untitled instead of Test Bookmark as the code states. Can someone answer the following questions -
1. Why is the code not changing the bookmark from Untitled to Test Bookmark, and
2. How would I nodify the above code to go to a certain page then enter the bookmark.

Thanks you very much for the help. I implemented as follows:

btitle = PDBookmark.SetTitle("Total Accessories / Hardgoods")
I added the "btitle =" due to it erroring out. However, when I step through the code and get to that line, I get the "Excel has encountered an error and needs to close" error. Is there a reference that I'm missing that you know of?
2. I was able to find the code to get to a specific page number and it is working great.
