Help!! I lost all my files on my computer along with it all the music I have on my I pod. I had to format the HD to get my Dell back up running. I have re loaded I Tunes on the computer. My question is how do I retrieve my Music off my I pod back to the computer? The support only shows how to do this if you still have the original I Tunes file on your computer and never lost all your files. All music on my I pod came from CD's not purchsed from I tunes store.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Moving songs from I pod to I pod

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another. If the songs you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. You just need to connect your new iPod and follow the on screen instructions to register and name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like.
If the songs on the old iPod are no longer in iTunes you need to copy them back there so they can be used by the new one. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. ITunes Unable to Retrieve Songs from iPod Shuffle on newly reformatted lapt

I just reformatted my computer - reinstalling the OS on my HP Laptop (uses XP)....and now, after trying to retrieve music files, which apparently I did not save correctly, iTunes will not allow me to import the songs from my iPod shuffle. I get a message that my computer is not authorized. I followed the instructions and "authorized" my computer, but to no avail - it will not recognize my shuffle - and I cannot even get the music I put onto my shuffle from my personal CD collection - which had been placed onto my music lists prior to my reinstalling the OS. HELP........!! Please.......anyone.....if you are an Apple employee and reading this - why is it so doggone hard to get help in understanding how to use this technology???? Can I get a little help here ????????

Moving songs from i-pod mini to my i-tunes

I have two minis, a shuffle and a new nano. Two adulst and two kids, all sharing one i-tunes account. I have a new computer, and have songs on one of the minis. I want to get the songs from the mini onto the i-tunes account. I can move songs from the library to any of the i-pods, but can't figure out how to move from the i-pod to the i-tunes

Retrieving songs from ipod shuffle... Help!

I have an ipod shuffle that was linked to my home computer's itunes. I loaded it with tunes (some that I bought from itunes). My computer crashed and I had to re-initialize the whole hard drive. (I did not have the songs backed up. Stupid, I know!) Now when I plug my shuffle in, I get the message about it being linked to another itunes library. That library doesn't exist anymore. It says if I relink it to the current itunes (which I want to do) it will erase the songs from my ipod and replace them with songs from the current library. I don't want to erase them because the ipod is the only place that they exist. When I say no it ejects the ipod icon from my desktop. How can I get the songs from my ipod to my new itunes or at least add new songs to the ipod without losing what's already on there?

It always seemed like iPodRip should work, and we played with it a lot, but always seemed to keep rubbing up against the same problem — it only works if the iPod stays mounted and, unless the Shuffle is in Disk mode, it always unmounts as soon give the standard "No" answser to iTunes.
We couldn't figure out a way to get iPodRip to work while iTunes was still in the loop at all, and there was no way to get her Shuffle into Disk mode without .... well, going into iTunes and therefore dumping out all of her songs, which was what we were trying to avoid in the first place.
Working with my own iPS, which I always keep in Disk mode, was just fine and it does seem to be a slick little app. I still have it on my own system but, of course, I haven't needed it for anything else. My friend has been off looking more into this on her own, and I have no idea what her progress in the past week or so has been.
Based on that, assuming we didn't just miss something really obvious, it seemed that it's only partially good on Shuffles. I've never heard of the other one but will take a look and see if I can get that to work any better. In the meantime, if there is some little trick to getting iPodRip to work with a normal (not in Disk mode) iPS I'd be interested in learning about that, too.

My harddrive crashed and I installed a new one. When I installed Itunes it will not let me import the music that is saved thru itunes in my phone. How do I get the songs from my Iphone to my Itunes? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have 5th gen Ipod Nano and I have recently bought a new computer and have been syncing all of my music onto itunes.But when I try to login I get locked out. I have tried using ICloud but I still get locked out. So I created a new Apple ID, I have been forced by ICloud to do this many times in the past and eventually the ICLOUD icon will appear and I can sync all my music I have purchased on itunes in the past. I have tried uninstalling Itunes and then reinstalling it. The problem seems fixed for a while and then it starts again. I have had to deal with this problem for months now. I find this very frustrating. I don’t see the point in having an Apple ID or password when nobody but me accesses it on itunes. It would make more sense to have an option that will keep account logged in. I also find that your website does not offer any help when encountering this problem.The only options I have online are to login with my apple ID and change my name,email address or password. This also adds to my frustration with Apple. I have tried to turn ICloud on by following your instructions at help.apple.com but still find that the problem isn’t solved. I have looked on your site to see if I have an up to date Itunes downloaded and that ICloud installed correctly and I did. But still cant access my account or retrieve any of the music. You must initiallly activate iCloud from an IOS device or a Mac. You cannot inititally activated from a PC.

Hi. Transferring songs from i-Pod to Mac

My old Windows PC recently crashed, taking with it the 3500 songs I had in i-tunes. Fortunately, I still have them on my i-pod Classic. However, am I right in thinking that there is no way of transferring them from my i-pod to my Mac without purchasing some software package, which I am reluctant to mess about with ?

2nd Computer at Vacation home...can I load songs from I-POD to ITunes?

As I understand it, my IPOD is designed to put the tunes on the IPOD that are on the ITUNES program on the computer.
What I want to do is to make the ITUNES on the new computer match the songs on my IPOD...in other words copy the tunes from the IPOD to the empty ITUNES program on the new computer.
Can that be done? Thanks for your help.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Erasing songs from i-pod and restore songs

How can I retrieve songs from an Apple ID based on a disabled hotmail account?

I have an old apple ID from a hotmail account that I had to shut down due to security reasons (it was hijacked). My Mac bit the dust but I was able to recover the hard drive and reimage it on a new Mac. The new Mac no longer recognizes my old Apple ID, my hotmail account has been terminated and now I can't access 1000s of songs as it no longer recognizes my password. I can't reset the password because I can't get into my old email. Pretty sad, huh? Help?

Thanks but no, that allows me to change my current Apple ID. I need to be able to get access to songs purchased on my old Apple ID. Unfortunately, I can't re-authorized this old account because I had to get rid of it (because of the hijacking of my hotmail account) and because my old computer literally bit the dust (can't restart it). Pretty nasty, huh?
