Retrieving TRASHED Mail?  When is it too late?

is it possible to get mail or mail addresses even after you deleted them from your trash folder? i would think not but I know there is a mail server in which you can empty or not empty.
Thanks
g5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Several structural factors have an impact on this question.
• are you using more than one client to pick up mail from your server?
• are you employing POP3 or IMAP clients?
• are your clients set to delete mail from the server when it is picked up?
Depending upon how your client-server relationships are structured, you may be able to recover addresses and message content from your server from an indeterminate—but likely relatively short—period of time.
If you are using a single client with the option to delete mail from the server once it is transfered to your client, the observations that Allan made are certainly correct, and it is likely that most users—even if not you—you be configured to do just that.
It's generally safe to say that once you've emptied the trash, anything removed using that mechanism is gone. While it is true that under some circumstances that limited recovery is possible, it's clearly not a reasonable or affordable option. The underlying rule ought to be: if you think you will ever need the data, do not discard it.

Your mail is housed on the mail server. The device attempts to update, and because you are not connected to the internet, you cannot access it. You need an active data connection to deal with mail.

  • How to I retrieve saved mail when I closed iCloud

    Hi,
I am new to this iCloud and don't know how to use. I always get confused. So I noticed that my new mini came with Mountain Lion and it had iCloud with Mail and Contacts checked. I removed the the checkmarks and the program said it would delete and then asked if I wanted to save the files. I said yes and clicked OK.
Now I find that on my mini, one of the most important mailboxes is suddently missing. Where did iCould save my files and how do I rectrieve them?
    Thank you.

Go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

  • When I Googled MacKeeper, several items warned against downloading it. Too late! In order to reverse the process, I'm told I need to unencrypt anything that was encrypted. How do I unencrypt? Thanks so much.

When I Googled the word MacKeeper, several items that appeared warned against downloading this item.  Too late!  I've already downloaded it.
I was told that, before reversing the download, I needed to unencrypt anything that was encrypted.  How do I do this?

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Then a dialog will pop up asking why you want to uninstall it. You don't have to provide that information. Enter anything you like in the text box, then click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Do not empty the Trash after dragging the MacKeeper application to it. Let the application delete itself.
Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon in the Dock or the LaunchPad to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.

  • HT2417 my iphone 4s voice messages repeatedly disappear and reappear at random. When they do reappear, I cannot listen to them. Sometimes, they eventually come through but usually too late to respond

I have an iphone 4s with Sprint. Ever since I switched from my iphone 3G with ATT, I have had incredible frustration with the voicemail system. Periodically, my voicemails on the new phone disappear; all messages old and new. This occurs out of the blue. Similarly they at times reappear, but the new messages have no content and all show up as 0.00minutes. Randomly, some messages retrieve their content and I can listen to them, often too late to respond to the caller. This is very annoying and almost questions why the voicemail exists at all. I have taken the phone to Sprint multiple times and performed countless resets with no recourse, hence they suggested contacting Apple. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a viable solution? iOS is up to date, phone only used in USA
    Thanks

  • Regular panic.crashes when retrieving e-mail

My iPhone started to panic crash all 20-30 minutes when not being used about 2 weeks ago. Resetting and restoring it from backup didn't bring any change. I've also sent it to Apple for repair, but they said, they couldn't find anything.
Now I've found out that it seems to happen whenever it retrieves e-mail from the server. Now, that I deactivated push (which was only used by my Mobile-me account) it seems like it doesn't crash anymore – but that can't be the solution.

HELP! Can I retrieve my previous session? I only just ticked the "open with previous session" preference but it seems too late! Can I still get the old pages/tabs I had open?

That could be a problem, unfortunately.
But most likely the pages you were on are stored in the History list. Try pressing Cmd+Shift+H to get the History window.
To help prevent this from happening to you again in the future, I can recommend the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2324/ Session Manager]. It is quite powerful but may not be able to help you any more than the History at this point.
Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help more users with similar problems.

  • (Mac Mail) How to obtain Yahoo! Mail when: You're inbox dissapears or does not show after all settings seem perfectly in place.

    Hello everyone!
Note**: I am in no way attempting to illustrate how to get FREE email listing from Yahoo! Mail, I am only reciting what I have stumbled upon. I do not know if Yahoo! actually wants this to work in Mail. but it does, so if they didn't want it to work they will patch it or something. I recommend that you take advantage of their paid service(annual) which allows POP forwarding of emails quickly and withou any need for reconfiguration.
I hope this "fix" is not being rementioned or creates redundancy, however after hours of searching all sorts of foums(including the Apple forums ofcourse) I was unable to find a true fix. Simply put, I just got a brand new Macbook Air 13'' for Christmas 2011. I also bought a Macbook Pro 15'' back in late 2010. I was never able to get Yahoo! Mail configured even through methods of IMAP rather than POP or POP3. Oddly enough, on my Macbook Air and Pro, now, when I try to redo the Yahoo! settings, my Inbox would display messages for a matter of seconds and then the messages would dissapear. However, there was still a number next to my Yahoo! e-mail, accurately indicating how many unread messages I had. I fixed it like so:
    1) Go to www.yahoo.com-- Configure Yahoo! account via account settings to work off of IMAP rather than POP Forwarding. Do so by going into account options on the top right or left hand of your screen and clicking through the forwarding options until you see IMAP. Make sure you save your new settings! This is very simple and I feel requires no further explanation. If you become confused, let me know and I will go into detail then.
    2) Once your Yahoo! Mail account is IMAP simply go into the Mail application on OSX (Mac). On the top bar of the Mail pane click on the "Mail" option in between the Apple sign and File.  Then, Click on Preferences from that dropdown pane. When this window appears, Click on the "@" symbol that says "Accounts" right under it. This is in between General and RSS options. Under the left-hand list that says "Accounts", click on the "+" sign as opposed to the "-" sign you will see there. This will allow you to setup an account or additional accounts. A window then will appear with options:
    3) ****Make sure you ARE connected to the internet wirelessly or via ethernet for this part!****
---------- Full Name: (Enter Full Name Here)
---------- Email Address: (Type in full email address, e.g.: [email protected])
---------- Password: (Type in your password to your email account, this IS CASE SENSITIVE.)
    4) Now! Listen! (lol), hit create and let the mac show you the settings it has pinged back from the Yahoo! mail server. It should illustrate that your e-mail is an IMAP based email address etc. As long as the account is created with the IMAP configuration and Mail reads it as so, you have succeeded thus far.
    5) Critial Step here: Go into the Mail application on OSX (Mac). On the top bar of the Mail pane click on the "Mail" option in between the Apple sign and File.  Then, Click on Preferences from that dropdown pane. When this window appears, Click on the "@" symbol that says "Accounts" right under it. This is in between General and RSS options. Under the left-hand list that says "Accounts", click on the Yahoo! IMAP account. Close to the top of that page between the different Mail options and the account settings you will see three different bar pages: a) Account Information, b) Mailbox Behaviors and c) Advanced.
    6) Click on the Advanced tab. Do not touch anything on this page, except, IMAP Path Prefix. This is located in the middle of the Advanced page screen right above Port, where you will see |Port:   993   (Box IS checked for: USE SSL). In that IMAP Patch Prefix type the name of your Inbox(I say this because some people rename it in Yahoo!). Mine is simply "Inbox" so my configuration in Mail looks like so: | Imap Path Prefix:  Inbox |. After this, click on "General" or attempt to close the Mail options window and it will as you to save the new setting. Ofcourse, hit yes and click the Get Mail envelope and you will see your Inbox populate, assuming you have new mail.
What this means: Test your OUTGOING mail server by sending yourself an e-mail either from your Yahoo! Mail or from another email. Thus, this will allow you tot est your INCOMING email as was now reconfigured to IMAP by seeing if you actually receive the email.
Reason for doing so in this sequence: By letting Mail create the account it will properly import all of your mail folders you have in your Yahoo! Mail account. Obviously, your Inbox and Outbox as well as Sent and Trash folders will import but I have additional folders, for example, that also imported for putting financials or receipts into different folders for organization. Once these are populated naturally, by changing the IMAP Path Prefix you're telling the Mail application where to send your new emails. Atleast this is my understanding of it.
Unfortuntely, I am not an officially educated 'techie", however, I have been fiddling with computers over the last 20 years and have been training myself to become Apple expert, seing as I have decided to completely convert to Apple products. Apple is just reliable. This, to me, is priceless. I truly hope I have helped you and that I have saved hours of Youtube video watching as well as forum searching for many. Should you have any questions, FEEL FREE to ask! I love helping others, hense why I have made this post(my first Apple post). Happy Holidays everyone and enjoy!

What Mac Mail did was delete ALL inbox messages from my yahoo account, after one week from importing them to Mac Mail.
The Yahoo server did exactly what you Mail program told it to do.
Mail/Preferences/Account/Advanced - This setting is adjustable for each mail account.
I didn't know about this feature until it was too late. I have already unchecked it for future emails.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Not Really, you could forward them to your account, after you've told your mail program not to delete the emails at all, but they will show up as being from you instead of the original sender. The originals at Yahoo have been dumped and probably purged. It would take an IT manager at Yahoo to manually replace the emails, not much chance of that.
I've already asked yahoo to "restore" my inbox to a day ago. That should help me with retrieving some of the messages back, I hope.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
The sync feature refers to IMAP email accounts like .Mac or .Me or an Imap gmail account. I didn't think Yahoo offered IMAP email accounts.
Apple's MobileMe membership will let you sync your Mail, AddressBook, Calender, personal website with iWeb, etc.
"MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync."
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
I wanted to use Mac Mail, see if I liked it or not, then decide to get a MobileMe account. However, this is still a side note, since my yahoo account is my main email client.
You seem to be very well informed, and I was wondering if I can ask you to clarify a point for me. Do you know how to archive the inbox in the Mac Mail?
And thank you for answering my queries.

  • Flashing Folder and a 4SNS Error - too Late ?

    Greetings
I recently came home to find my iMac making some rather noisy sounds.
    Apps locked and unresponsive.
After restarting I go the flashing folder with the ?.
Inserting the OS X install disk didn't work and neither did a few other things that are suggested with this problem. OS X disk is not very good condition.
Inserting the OS X Applications CD containing the AHT I ran the initial test.
    The result was 4SNS/1/40000000: TH00 - 9.00
A quick google shows that this is a system sensor - related to the temperature of the HDD.
During the process of trying to determine the FF? I note that the iMac is very hot and the fan running. Surprisingly as the fan only ever comes on in summer and/or when I'm gaming, which is hardly ever as I use a PC for that.
As I type I'm running a extended test, iMac still very hot, test running for about 25mins so far. Fan has reached the same noise level as when I got home to hear it.
Further google reading suggests that the HDD might be fried?
Silly me, don't back up. And to be honest there really isnt anything that I dont have on the iPad that I cant lose - like family photos. So it's just apps and a few word files that I could live without.
    But my questions are:
Is HDD likely to be fried now because of faulty sensor?
Is it too late to back up to another external HDD?
Obviously a trip to the Apple store / authorised repari is in order?
Should I stop this extended test? Not sure what it's going to prove.?
    Thanks

I tried booting in Safe Mode by holding down shift while starting, but it just went to the flashing folder with the ?-mark in it. Then I tried to enter single-user mode by holding down cmd-S while starting (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492), in order to try the fsck-thingy, but still just the flashing ?.
When I start my computer it makes bad noises from the bottom right side. I fear that the HD is broken , it sounds as if it is working very hard, making scratchy and clicky noises.
I also tried using the computer as a FireWire target in order to retrieve some data (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661). When I bootet the "broken" computer and held down T the FireWire symbol appeared on the screen. But on the host computer I could not find the target computer.
    Any more ideas?

  • Can't send mail when using mobile broadband

    Hi
I am getting quite frustrated as I can't send mail when using my mobile broadband modem! I can receive mail, and surf the internet etc, but mail just wont send!(i get the usual cannot send try later/resend options). I thought this might be an issue with my mobile broadband but have recently reinstalled it. When at home on a wireless network I have no such issues.
    Any help appreciated

I am not using a SMTP it is a Pop3 domain name account from freeparking and uses mail.'NAME'.com for incoming and outgoing mail!
Even though your e-mail service uses the same URL for POP3 and SMTP servers, in the software sense you actually do have separate POP3 and SMTP servers, although they may be hosted on the same machine, or the requests are routed via some "smoke and mirrors" to the right host.
It is not related to my ISP at home, which is Virgin media. My mobile broadband provider is 3. I was thinking it might be that I need to change the port settings in mail when using my mobile modem, but don't know what to change them too(or how to do it!) or configure the modem differently but again not sure what to do there!
Check with the freeparking online help to see if it supports port 587 or some such.
Also try Mail's "Connection Doctor" (under the Window menu) when you're away from home to see if that shows anything useful.
Since you can send e-mail from that SMTP server when you're at home but not when you're using your mobile broadband, I think one of two possibilities is likely: (a) Your mobile broadband provider is blocking your attempts to access the freeparking SMTP server and/or port. (b) The freeparking SMPT server for some reason doesn't like being communicated with via your mobile broadband provider. I'd check with each of them to explore these options.
Does your mobile broadband provider have an SMTP server that you can use instead of the freeparking one?
My modem(Huawei E220) is not particularly Mac friendly as it is, and I believe Mail can be quite sensitive when servers don't respond immediately?
Yes. Mail seems to have a fixed time-out value for server responses.

  • How do I prevent my Samsung Galaxy S5 from checking my e-mail when I use a public Wi-Fi hotspot?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, and would like to find out how to suppress the regular checking of e-mail when my phone connects via unencrypted Wi-Fi (in such places as libraries or restaurants).
When the phone was first set up in-store, there was a checkbox next to "sync email," which I checked.  (I can also access this checkbox via settings > manage accounts > (account name) > sync settings.)  Checking this box makes the phone retrieve e-mail from my ISP's mail server regularly.  But if I clear the checkbox, then the phone does not check e-mail at all, even when I open the Email app and touch the reload/refresh icon.
Is there a way either to:
check e-mail only on-demand (i.e. I must open the Email app and then, as an added layer of protection, touch "load more emails" or the refresh icon before it ever will authenticate with my ISP's mail server)
or, even better, check e-mail only when connected via WPA2-encrypted Wi-Fi or mobile data (LTE) but never send the password over the airwaves when I access a public Wi-Fi hotspot?

It would be nice if there was a user-configurable preference to allow certain network activities (such as logging into an IMAP or POP server) only when the connection is secure (as it is with WPA2 and, I assume with LTE mobile data) and not when a connection is wide-open.
There is a setting to "sync email," which I can uncheck, but unchecking that box seems to completely stop the e-mail app from retrieving messages, even when I refresh.  Is unchecking that box before connecting to the hotspot (and then checking it again when I get home) the best that I can do?  (If so, that is just as easy as not using the public Wi-Fi hotspot at all.)
Verizon's 1GB plan is affordable, and I use public Wi-Fi hotspots specifically to avoid overages.  I guess there is a trade-off between saving money and privacy, but there should still be a way to get the e-mail program only to access the network when I tell it to.

  • I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.

I have a question. When I am at a different computer how do I retrieve my mail. I logged in and put my username and password in. Everything shows up but all my messages arent' in the inbox. It is blank...Only my home computer has messages in it.

Sounds like you're using a pop3 client on your home machine with the settings set to remove immediately off server once delivered to client.
