Retrofit System
Hello
I have been looking for detailed information about the Retrofit system and its applications in system landscapes where multiple releases occur at the same time, but I am not finding many data.
Does anyone has experience in this subject or knows some material that describes how the retrofit works and which are the advantages and the disadvantages of using it?
Thanks,
Fernanda Viveiros

ChaRM:Retrofit system level
Hi Team,
I am implementing retrofit functionality in ChaRM. Currently i am using Sol Man EHP1 ST Level: SAPKITL433. I am working with ECC landscape (ECC 5.) to test retrofit functionality (DEV,QA,PRD & Retrofit). What is the software component level required in the ECC systems to implement retrofit?

Hi Experts,
We have created TR in SE2:300 (SE2K900212) and after releasing it, we have got Transport Of Copies (SE2K900214). Now object which is relevant with Zpackage25 under this TR, we want that to move to SE2:200 client through automatic retrofit process, which we are trying to do.
But while doing this, it prompts us for error message saying TR in SE2:200 (SE2K900215) –“Choose a change request with target system SE2.400 “ and after checking logs it says- “However, the objects you edit can only be recorded in change requests with the target system SE2.400.
The correct target system is determined from the package and transport layer to which the object concerned belongs”
We don’t want target system of 200 to be changed to 400, 120 is correct client, but I believe Zpackage25 or relevant Transport layer having some issue in not recognizing this package ,
Can you please let me know how I will be able to take care of this?
Thanks,
AsadHi,
This is the complete scenario:
Our Solution Manager system DM2 is on Solution Manager 7.1 SP 07.We
have Connected our Solution Manager system to Satellite system SE2(ECC
System) and we have configured ChaRM in this Landscape for SE2
satellite system.
In our SE2 Satellite system, we have built "Implementation Landscape"
and "Maintenance Landscape" as below for Prototyping "Retrofit
Scenario".
Maintenance Landscape:
SE2/200(Dev) -> SE2/120(QA) -> SE2/110(Pre-Prod) -> SE2/100(Prod)
Implementation Landscape:
SE2/300(Dev) -> SE2/400 -> SE2/100(Prod)
We have followed the below steps for recreating "Auto-Import" Scenario
in Retrofit
1) Create a Transport Request in SE2/300 from Task List and save some
Example Objects in the same. The Task List has been created from the
Project containing the Logical Components of both "Implementation
Landscape" and "Maintenance Landscape" with SE2/200 being identified as
the "Retrofit" system.
2) Release the task of this Transport Request from the Satellite system.
3) Release this Transport Request from the Task List.At this stage,
Transport of Copies(ToC) is generated.
4) Create Transport Request in SE2/200 from the Task List.
5) Start "Retrofit" from the Task List. When performing this task,we are
receiving the following Error message after selecting the "Retrofit"
Transport request in SE2/200.
"Choose a Change Request with Target system SE2/400".
This is the error we are getting: -
Greetings, Solution Manager experts.
My company is considering implementing an N + 1 ERP environment: 1 stream for maintenance, and 1 for project work.
At this time, I am trying to assess if ChaRM Retrofit is being widely used in the industry, and what benefits and problems companies have seen with it. From what I can tell, there is not much documentation available on this topic.
Are you using ChaRM Retrofit in an N + 1 SAP landscape?
If so, has your company see a benefit to using this product?
Can you offer any tips or watchouts to implementation?
Thanks in advance for your help.Hi,
Here are the information i collected about his topic. (hard to find information about that) :
Prerequisites :
A retrofit system must exist in the Maintenance Project (role type : Post Processing system). It should be a development system of an other project, for exemple an implementation project.
The task list of the maintenance project will now have two new tasks :
--> general tasks --> Assign Post Processing system to development system
--> Track section --> Post Processing --> retrofit systems --> start retrofit
I wish i could give clues for further research

Massive copy of BW transformation between different source system
Hi all,
in my BW I have different source systems. I have mapped several objects to one source system.
Now I need to copy all the transformation to other source systems. These source system are different instance of ECCs, there are the same extractor in all the systems.
I can't use the BDLS becouse these move the transformations between the system not copy it.
I try to create a Transport and using the Conversion of Logical System Names but this change only the objects with source sytems dependencies, it don't change the technical name of transformation, and do not create a tranformation to the new system but overwrite the existing one.
Do you know if there are some program or some procedure to copy transformation between sourcesystem in BW?
Thanks in advance
MarioHi,
you can do a Retrofit (System copy), Generally, retrofit happens between two different BW systems.
check with your basis team if the retrofit is possible with in the same BW system but for different clients.
Note : System copy will overwrite all the objects.

Hi Retrofit,
The new functioanlity "Retrofit" is available in Sol Man EHP1. What is retrofit functioanlity? How is the benefit of this functioanlity?
Your input will be very much appreciated
Thnaks
KumarHi Khalil,
Request for your input to set up the logical component for retrofit functionality.
I am considering two possible ways to implement retrofit.
1. Create one logical component LC1 and the follwoing systems in the logical component:
LC1: SJ1:100 (System Role: DEV), SJ1:200 (System Role:QA), SJ1:300(System Role:PRD), SJ1:400 (System Role: Post Processing).
Note: Post Processing system is a retrofit system.
2. Create two logical componets like LC1 & LC2 with the folowing systems in the logical component
LC1: SJ1:100 (System Role: DEV), SJ1:200 (System Role:QA), SJ1:300(System Role:PRD), SJ1:400 (System Role: Post Processing).
LC2: SJI:400 (System Role: DEV), SJ1:200 (System Role:QA), SJ1:300(System Role:PRD).
Which option will be best to go for retrofit functionality.
Note: Post Processing system is a retrofit system. All the clients are within the same system.
Thanks for the input

Cross System Object Lock with ChaRM Retrofit
Hi-
I need to know if there is the ability to have a cross system object lock while utiliziing Retrofit within ChaRM. For example I am working with an N, N1 landscape. When I release a transport request in N I need the object to be locked in the N, and N1 (after retrofit) landscapes.
Will this be supported with both Workbench and Customizing requests?I dont believe this is possible at the moment. As you must be already aware, that SAP releases the locks from the objects as soon as the transport request is released from the Development System. Unless, this locking mechanism is extended to various systems first (DEV and QAS) and later to parallel landscapes (eg:- Project landscapes) it would be difficult to bring in this feature.

Retrofit between ECC 6.0 System and R/3 4.7?
Is this possible? If I have ECC 6.0 as my Maintenance Landscape and 4.7 as my Implementation landscape? I thought it was however I am getting this error:
The function is not available for this support package in target system
Message no. /TMWFLOW/TRANSPORT_N689
Diagnosis
The function module called is not in the target system. The current basis support package in the target system is too low.
Procedure
Either import the current basis support package, or find a note for this function.
If you are retrofitting transport requests, check whether notes 1040612 and 1066123 are in your satellite systems.Hi,
As mentioned by the error message, you should check the basis support pack level (s.w component: SAP_BASIS) for your satellite system. The notes mentioned in your error message specify the supported basis pack levels.

Can't mount oracle database on linux system
This is same as previous posting just added
e-mail and username info fo forum posting.
I am not able to mount an Oracle database.
I am new to Oracle and am working on an Oracle8i installation on an
Intel Linux Suse 6.3 platform. I am using only one harddrive and am
not using the 4 mount points as mentioned for efficiecy purposes in
the Oracle documentation..I am using the installation cd from Oracle8i
for Linux Starter Kit by Oracle Press. If anyone has this book they
can refer to pages 41-44 for the examples I followed.
As sysdba in sqplplus using the STARTUP command I can not Mount the
database -step 2 of the 3 stage process (Start, Mount and Open the
database) of opening an Oracle database.
I show the errors I encountered when I did the first 2 of the 3 steps
in the step-by-step mode (STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=, ALTER DATABASE
MOUNT) in the sqlplus session and alert log respectively with startup
nomount and alter database mount for this sqlplus session.
Additionally I show the init.ora file lines referring to control file
which seem to be referred to by the sqlplus error messages and the
alert.log file. Perhaps some can give me some advice as what I can try
to fix this problem.
At the end of this e-mail I added several questions I had in regard to the control
files. Any help is appreciated.

I need to know several points:
1) What are control files susposed to

I used the
unix find /usr/oracle \*ctl* -print
command to locate files with a ctl extension.
This resulted in about a dozen such files in
different directories as shown below:

2) On page 100 in the book Oracle 8i A Beginners's
by Oracle Press mention is made of a
CREATE CONTROLFILE command that can under
circumstances be used to re-create a control-file.
but that is all that is said about it. Perhaps
you might know something more about it.
3) Would you recommend any good text for
Oracle DBA's, especially for the problem of the sort
that I am encountering?
[email protected]
nullIt's probably not supported on RHEL5/Centos5/etc., but...
You can get the installer to function using the following steps:
- extract the cal_linux_*.tar.gz, and cd into the OracleCalendar_inst directory
In there is the actual installer, cal_linux.
- the cal_linux is shell script wrapped around some binary blobs. The installer's
problem is that Oracle is setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 environment
variable, which is a mistake on RHEL5. You need to make it not set that variable,
but you need to do so in a way that the size of the shell script does not change at all,
and none of the binary blobs are impacted.
- the approach I took was
mv cal_linux cal_linux.BAK
sed -e 's/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL= /g' < cal_linux.BAK > cal_linux
chmod a+rx cal_linux
cal_linux -i gui
Note: you must have exactly 5 spaces in the substitution part of the sed command, because you're replacing 5 characters (2.2.5), and the size of the shell script must not change.
If you do that, the installer should run (one warning from awk still) and you should be able to install the product.
Tim -
Good day colleagues.
We are in the process of introducing retrofit, and the picture is clear for us, generally speaking, to retrofit the project landscape with the changes done in the maintenance landscape.
What about the other way around? We mean, when the project is set to Go Live, we understand the transports will be all added, e.g. to the Production System buffer to be moved there via Maintenance Cycle, based on the way we defined the project and the logical component being used.
However, how do you feed those project transports to your Maintenance Development System using ChaRM? or do you do that Manually? We doubt. Copying Production back into Development? no way !!!
How do you establish that? We have a sort of idea but the documents about retrofit only seem to talk about moving transports one way, as far as we have found.
Many thanks for any feedback.
Juan CarlosHi Piyush.
I apologize for a late close on this questioning about moving projects back into the maintenance stream.
Basically there are 2 solutions as far as we know:
1. What Vivek mentions, which is performing a cutover and repacking the project transports into 2 transports in the maintenance stream: A workbench and a customizing. In that sense, at the end of the day you end up moving just 2 transports to the maintenance stream up to Production. They contain all your project objects. Thanks to Vivek, again.
This is a very practical and interesting approach. The only reason we did not adopt it, is based on the fact that if by any chance we encounter an issue with a project transport object in the maintenance stream (Dev or QA), now that all is bundled together, we may be stuck right at the time weare getting ready to GoLive. How tough is going to be that issue? how easy and quick to fix?how much would that affect the whole project time frame? Those questions made us decide to option 2.
2. What we are doing is that at cutover we move at the same time all project transports to the transport buffer of each of the maintenance stream systems (Dev, QA, and Prod). We first open the gate to move the transports to Dev and we test, then to QA and we test, as well. If there may be an issue, and the issue can not be quickly resolved by the project team, we can go up to the extreme of using a new feature introduced in ChaRM in SP10, if we are not wrong, but definitely available in SP12. That feature provides a way to selectively decide which transports of the release are to Go Live and which ones do not, although we have no had to use that feature, yet, but it is there.
We do not see any risk on adding the transports to the maintenance buffers at the same time. There are ways to control the systems that are open for receiving transports, and the project phases, which guarantees no room for error. There have to be deliberate actions taken (more than one in our case), to wrongly move a project to GoLive before its time comes.
That is more or less the scenario Piyush.
Hope that explains the scenario. So far no decision on really publishing as a blog. It seems not to be written on stone, as consulting with different companies, each adds its own flavor to the recipe and shuffle ideas to get to what they are looking for and makes them happy.

SMSY//Logical component definition - multiple roles for one system?
Dear all,
as our client has a divided system landscape (three-tier operational line as well as two-tier development line) some systems have more than one role to fill. The development system on development line is source system for all developments, as well as post-processing system for retrofit purpose from operational line. The maintenance system on operational line is target system for developments from development line, as well as source system for maintenance activities on operational line.
--> What are the consequences of assigning multiple roles to one system?
--> Is there anonther option than assigning multiple roles?
Best regards
NickWe have Event Manger 7.0 installed into a stand-alone SCM 7.0 system. When trying to set this up in SMSY, the only options given for setting up the Logical System is to associate with with EHP3 or EHP4 for in ECC 6.0.
Obviously we have not installed EM into ECC. So where are the other appropriate entries in SMSY for recognizing that EM is installed in SCM?
1) This system must be maintained as SCM 7.0 in SMSY and not as SAP ERP 6.0 or EHPX for SAP ERP 6.0, this is the reason as you can see this system SCM 7.0 can be assigned just to SAP ERP 6.0 or EHPX for SAP ERP 6.0.
2) There's no Main Instance available to be selected when you have a SAP SCM 7.0. You must select one or more of the following main instances below.
BI Content
SCM Server
cFolders on SCM Server
GEOCODING
Portal Content
SAP LiveCache
SAP NW - Adobe Docu. Service
SCM Optimizer
SCM WCL
XI Content
These are the main instances available to SCM 7.0 -
Retrofit in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 Supported Across Different OS's?
Is Solution Manager 7.1 Retrofit Capability supported with a different enhancement pack level and across different Operating Systems (HP-UX & AIX)?
The specific scenario would be setup of a dual landscape where traditional Dev -> QAS-> PRD is on HP UX 11.31. Then we would create a parallel 'Upgrade Project" landscape on IBM AIX 7.1 uDEV -> uQA (on AIX), perform an enhancement pack upgrade on uDeV and uQA and use Solution Manager Retrofit Capability to synchronize transports between the two landscapes.
Thanks in Advance!

ChaRM for a 5 system landscape
Hi all,
we got a requirement to implement charm for 5 system landscape. but the problem is
currently the scenario followed for the rollout is
1. AA(DEV-proj)--> BB(QUA - proj)
Then the TR is forwarded from BB system to the maintenance landscape
DEV>QUA> PROD
they don't want to implement retrofit functionality.
is there any way we can mapp this scenario to charm.
kindly advice in this regard.
Thanks,
Subhashini.Hi Ragu,
Thanks for the reply.
currently a two systems are separated from the maintenance landscape.
they are forwarding the TRs to the development system.
is there any way we create 2 tracks.
1. AA-BB-DEV-QUA-PROD
2. DEV-QUA- PROD
again i not having a clear idea on how to differentiate the tracks as both leads to the same production system.
or is there any way develop a custom method for forwarding this TR to the DEV system.
kindly sugggest on how to go about.
Thanks ,

Touch Screen Retrofit for iMac9,1 Screens
I am currently conducting research on virtual organs using the Hauptwerk/Classic MIDIworks systems. These are heavily dependent on touch screens. According to Darryl Wood of Classic MIDIworks " . . . there are a lot of switches inherent in organs. There's no way to implement that many physical switches, multiplied by all the different sample sets, practically or economically." This is why touch screens are recommended. That is to forgo the expense of independent drawknobs ($25 to $50 each) to say nothing of all the pistons, couplers, swell shoe displays and memory level displays that would cause a $7,000 organ project to drastically escalate in cost. I have found a retrofit in the form of the 3M MicroTouch System 3250EX. This is a surface capacitive touch system based on the 3M MicroTouch Controller EX and optimized for displays ranging from 6.4 to 32 inches.
If you do not recommend the 3M system, please send a list of touch screens and necessary connection hardware.Hi @Bobi617 ,

Please feel free to post a revised message in English.
I understand you are having issues after a possible update on your HP Notebook and your touchscreen not responding. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
Here is a document on troubleshooting the Touchscreen if the system restore does not help.

In STMS, How to set-up transport path for retrofit client? I have already set-up transport path for DEV, QA and PRD to activate standard ChaRM. Is the existing transport path to be modified to include retrofit client?
Note: I am working with ECC sandbox to test retrofit (within ECC sandbox system, i am creating four clients DEV,QA, PRD & RETROFIT)
