Return 2011 MBAir to factory condition?

I have a mid-2011 MacBook Air 13" 128GB computer. I have alread once used the RECOVERY partition to reinstall Lion.
I need to do that again, but now I find that the RECOVERY partition is missing! I have no idea why it's missing, though I did erase the account that I first booted into the reinstalled Lion with.  That is, I set up one user, then, set up a second admin user and deleted the first. Lord knows why that might erase the RECOVERY partition, and it may not have.  But the RECOVERY partition does not show up when booting holding down the OPTION key after the first sound. Nor does the recovery partition show up in the DISK UTILITIES (which it did show up in previously).
Now I need to return the computer to factory setup. I have Lion on my desktop and I have (somewhere) a flash drive that I made from my DESKTOP when I first installed Lion (upgrading from Snow Leopard).
Any clues as to how to proceed?  THere are many discussions of returning Air's to factory condition, but none that I can find with a missing RECOVERY partition.
Thanks--

If you have an internet connection, then you can use Lion Internet Recovery.
Hold down the Command+Option+R keys while booting, and hold them down until you see a spinning globe. You can then proceed to perform a reinstallation.
Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions as if you had a recovery partition. Format your SSD, then reinstall the operating system.
See this document on the details and limitations of Wi-Fi network parameters.

  • How do I get my old imac back to factory condition without a DVD so I can sell it

My old imac did not come with a DVD, neither did my new one for that matter, how do I erase all my personal data and return the old machine back to factory condition without a DVD?

That's a great tip If the Op has the original version of OS X installed. If he ever upgraded to Lion or Mt Lion he can not sell the computer with either of those OSs installed as they are Tied to his Apple ID and not to the computer.
This will cause all kinds of problems for the buyer.
The OP needs to get replacement system discs from Apple and install the original version of OS X on it before it is sold.

  • Restore 2012 imac to factory conditions - OSX Mavericks

    Hi
I have a early Late 2012 early 2013 maxed out iMac 27" (Slim one with Fusion drive and a FDD) It came with Snow Leopard installed.
I now want to restore it back to factory condition clean but with Mavericks on it.  I then want to set it up with my software.
How do I do this as I have read conflicting reports.
I will clone the drive before I start with Superduper and backup all software/Date.
One method says delete HDD in settings and then when you reboot you have an option to automataclly download Maverricks.  Is this correct ? Is this the best way ? How will it download when I havent set up internet access ?
Another methods mention making a bootable USB drive.
Please advise as I would like to do this over Christmas
    regards CARLO

You can only reinstall the OS version that came pre-installed. You must remove the computer from your list of registered products once you sell it so the new owner can register it and use the original pre-installed software.
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • I can't restore my system to its factory condition.

    hello all
i have Pavilion DV6 laptop, my HardDisk is dmaged and i can't boot anymore (because of the physical BadSectors) , so ibought a new HardDisk ( 1TB )
when i plug my old hard disk into another PC , i can see the 3 partion's
    1 : C:\[system]
    2 : D:\ [Recovery]
    3 : E:\ [HP TOOLS]
i can fully browse them , so i just copied all the files in the partion D:\ ( which contains the Recovery Files) to my new Hard Disk
( i made a new partion with enough free space for the recovery files )
i done that by showing the hidden files and the system hidden files and then copy , the original size of the Recovery files are the same with the new one (near 19 GB) so i just installed a new Windows 7 (32bit) in my New HardDisk (the old system was windows 7 64bit but i have windows 7 32bit CD Available so thats why)
and i also downloaded and installed HP Recovery manager to restore my laptop to its factory condition, but when i run the recovery manager,i got an error message(HardDisk.dll is missing) i downloaded that .dll file , next time i got another error (PRRC.dll is missing) i downloaded that file too , finally when i ran the Recovery manager from my Desktop i got a Turkish message ! , while my system language is arabic
    see here : http://imgur.com/WzrMDD2
and when i reboot and Press F11 To start the Recovery manager, it starts normally but i can't click on the system restore ! , i also can't reset my laptop to its factory condition, the buttons are disabled see here : http://imgur.com/7JYwO8B i can only click on Run Computer checkup and Show Contact info
should i install a 64 bit system and try the Previous step ? , or is there any missing files that i should copy into the D or C ?
please guys help me to restore my system , the old HardDisk is Dmaged and not bootable anymore so i don't want it

Hello MohammedFawzi.  I understand you're trying to recover your notebook to factory conditions.
If you're unable to perform the recovery the normal way I suggest ordering a set of Recovery Discs directly from HP.  This will not only reinstall the operating system but will also recreate the partitions (including Recovery), install drivers, and most of the software.
To order the discs you'll need to contact HP Support in your region.  You can visit HP Support Worldwide to locate your region's contact information.
I hope this is helpful.  Have an amazing week!

  • How do I get MBP back to factory condition then reinstall snow leopard?

I have a new Macbook Pro that came with Leopard installed and the Drop-in Snow Leopard dvd. I upgraded to Snow Leopard as soon as I got it home and then used migration assistant to migrate from a cloned back up of my old macbook which was running Tiger. I have also installed Logic Express and subsequently now seem to have a number of problems that make me think that the best thing to do would be to get everything back to the factory condition and start again. The only thing I need to preserve are my emails as I haven't really put anything else on the computer yet as all my photos and music are on an external drive. I have Mobile Me so my emails should all be stored on that somewhere ( I think?)
Should I do a erase and install from the original Leopard discs that came with the computer and then upgrade to Snow Leopard again from the drop-in dvd and then set everything up from fresh?
Or...should I just wait until I can get an appointment with a Genius at my local Apple Store? They are booked up until the middle of the week!

There is no reason to wait for a genius. Some say that you can do an erase and install with your Sno drop-in DVD. I would try that first. Then, if no luck, I'd reinstall Leo via erase and install and upgrade to Sno. I would not migrate from the Tig clone again. I'd just drag and drop my data and reinstall my apps by hand. Leave all peripherals disconnected during whichever install you do. But, stay connected to the internet. Doing so will facilitate joining your network, getting to the internet, and connecting with MobileMe. You MobileMe mail will show up when you start using mail; it may take awhile though. You will need to use your supplementary Leo DVD to reinstall iWork and iLife. Also, use your Leo install DVD to install QT 7 and Rosetta if you want them.

I am going to restore my Macbook Pro to it's factory condition. I do this every once in a while because it seems to improve performance. I backup everything to an external drive and then I restore only what I want from my backup drive. In iTunes I have renamed a lot of my songs. Last time I cleaned off my mac and restored/reloaded my music I had to rename all those songs again. It took me about 2 weeks to reorganize my music. How do I get iTunes to remember all of those names and keep everything exactly the same when I restore/reload the music into iTunes?

It may seem like it does but it really doesn't.
Just delete stuff you don't want.

Use Time Machine, backup everything, do the reinstall (I recommend you don't do it) then restore your user folder with Time Machine.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Or you can use third-party software like Phone to PC to transfer your music.

  • Recovery the pavilion DM4 as a factory condition using set disc

I'm trying to recover my DM4 as a factory condition but the to HP recovery manager, on System recovery, show that this option is disabled (Discovery partition is removed).
I have created the set disc to recovery (4 discs + repair disc).
I would do it as a factory condition. How can I do?

I guess the primary boot is set to Hard Drive and hence it is looking for HDD for recovery.
Changing the boot device to Optical drive should resolve the issue. Refer:

  • Lost all my photos and music because I had to reset my laptop back to factory condition.

Hello everyone! ok so I had to reset my HP laptop running windows 7 back to factory condition. I could not back anyting up because my laptop was barely usable. I lost everything! But this happened to me in the past on another computer and I started messing around way deep in the computer files and eventually i found everything! It took forever to find them but I did in fact find them. but now the problem is that was so long ago that i cant remember at all how I did it or got to where i was. Does anybody know how to find the files i am talking about?

    Excuse me for jumping in.
Download and Recuva Free, it may get your files back even if the disk is formated, it will take a while.

  • Cannot Reset Spectre x2 to factory conditions TWO D: partitions? Windows RE doesn't launch

I'm having a terrible time trying to reset my Spectre x2 to factory conditions.
    1. I tried using the Windows 8.1 command to reset everything. It says it cannot find recovery environment.
    2. I tried going through HP support app to have it boot into Windows Recovery Environment. When I try to do this it just boots right back to windows rather than to WinRE.
    3. I tried going through other methods of booting up into WinRE (like holding down shift when clicking Restart or going through the long sequence to get to startup options and asking it to boot into WinRE). It just boots right into Windows.
    4. I tried to mark the D:Recovery partition to active but when I go into Disk Management and right-click on D: partition the normal right-click context menu isn't there. Instead, it just says "Help?" as the only option.
NOTE: For some reason I have 2 separate D:Recovery partitions in Disk Manager. I suspect this may be linked to the problem. They are both labeled as D:

    Hi there
I'll not be able to view the image until it's approved by Forum moderators.
HP OEM recovery partition might have got corrupted. It occurs if you've upgraded Windows 8/8.1 to 8.1/8.1Update. That's why manufacturer says to create a Recovery media (preferably USB) just as you setup your laptop for the first time.
Have you made the recovery media before? You may have to use that for doing recovery/refreshing. Otherwise order the Recovery USB directly from HP in your region.
Also, what happens when you hard/force shutdown your system by pressing Power button continuously for 3-5 seconds and then again powering it on again for 3-4 times?
It should normal go into Windows RE.

  • Exists (SQL query returns at least one row) condition with MAX on 10.2.0.4

I just wanted to note this on the forum..
    I'm using Apex 3.0.1.00.08
My DEV environment has just been upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
I created the following process to select some values into some items on my Form page.
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    into    :P11_STAT_YEAR
          , :P11_PCT_ID
          , :P11_STAT_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_STAT_PERIOD_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_MEASUREMENT_ID
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
, pcd.measurement_id;The process should run conditionally if there was at least one row to select...
So I copied the SQL into the Process condition, removed the "into" section and set the condition type to be "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row) ...
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
, pcd.measurement_id;This worked perfectly until the DEV environment was upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
The condition would fire even if there were no rows returning.
I pasted the condition code into SQL Developer connected to the DEV (10.2.0.4.0) environment and it returned no rows.
To solve the problem, I removed the MAX.
You can test this using this code if you have access to the two versions... select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
group by sysdate, 2Now I know the MAX isn't required in the condition as I'm just trying to find out if any rows exist, but it was there as I copied the code in... I was just wondering why this happened between 10.2.0.2.0 and 10.2.0.4.0?
    Gus..

    Hi Gus,
    try to execute
select count(*) from dual where exists (select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
group by sysdate, 2)in SQL Developer. The above statement is generated by APEX for an "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row)". Can't test it, because I don't have a 10.2.0.4.0 at hand.
Does SQL Developer now show the same behavior?

how can i bring my mac back to factory condition?

Insert its original install DVD, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a new OS on it. If you're going to be selling or giving away the computer, throw any files which may contain sensitive data in the Trash and securely empty it first, and include the disks with it.
