Return control key to the way it was?

Hi gurus, somehow I messed up my control key in Mountain Lion. I used to be able to use it to modify other keys, for example, control right arrow would move to another desktop. However, now just pressing the control key exposes all of the open files of the highlighted application, and pressing other keys may or may not have an effect. For example, control down arrow does "clear the desktop" but control right arrow no longer changes to another desktop. I've combed through System Preferences a million times, and haven't found a solution. (Move right a space is checked in the Keyboard shortcuts of System Preferences.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, I never did figure this out. I made a new user and proved to myself that the new user had the typical control key behavior. I poked around in plists for a while, diffing them, etc., and couldn't find anything that changed the behavior. I finally restored the entire ~/Library/Preferences from a backup, rebooted, and now the control key is behaving itself again, but that was an ugly fix. I think whatever I did managed to map control down arrow onto control. Computers these days, so complicated

Take a picture of your toolbars so you can easily reconstruct them from the default after solving the the problem.
If it happens to you it will probably happen again in the future so you might want to keep some copies of your modified localstore.rdf file so you can delete the bad one and rename one of the replacements in waiting. Saving, copying and renaming must be done with Firefox down, of course.

When you get a call it has some small icons of reminding and message and one white ugly "slide to answer" bar.*** seriously?
People complained about the green bar in IOS 7.0.3. You can't please everyone with everything. Deal with it and move on. Or you can just get a Droid phone and suffer through the bizarre interface changes.

C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes should be the original library. You should be able to connect to it as follows.
Close iTunes, wait a few seconds, click the icon that starts iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the file C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
Depending upon exactly what you did this has either restored your library, or done absolutely nothing at all. That was the reason for asking you to check using the script.
Assuming you still have a library full of dupes there are a number of ways to go. I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates which I discuss in some detail in this thread. While it should work it will be ideal if it discards the copies that are outside the media folder C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes\iTunes\iTunes Media. I've a feeling it will do exactly that, but it depends in part on exactly you got into this mess. It would be worth doing a few sample runs of just a few sets of duplicate files first.

I recently upgraded my IPad because I thought it was a necessary security upgrade since Apple's security was recently compromised. I did not know it was going to reconfigure my settings. I hate it the way it is now and don't know how to get it back to the way it was. Is there anyway to reverse the upgrade without losing my pictures and other data? I also lost some expensive courses I had purchased. They are no longer there when I open the app. I hate the way it organized my pictures too. I like to sort by price or alphabetical etc but then I want to return the cells to where they were and I can't figure out a way to do that.
For instance, the rows that don't matter so much like the ones that just describe what date is the follow are now all together and I want it back the way it was when I opened the document without losing any changes I've met to other things in the doc since I sorted.
Can anyone help with this?

Adding to replies from Wayne and Barry. After you open that Numbers document, insert another column into a table before you sort it. The column can be anywhere in that table. Here is Column A (labelled "Original") that I inserted. It has numbers in sequence (1, 2, 3...)
As Barry said, these must be numbers, not the results of a formula.
Now you can sort by any column to your heart's delight and always go back to the original order by sorting that table by column A.

My god I've lost all my addons and other important info when I signed on this morning it asked me which which user I wanted to use this was the first time ever asked. How do I restore my 27" mid-2011 iMac EXACTLY the way it was after hard disk replacement?

Hi all.
Recently received an email from Apple saying that the 1TB Seagate hard drive in my 27" mid-2011 iMac is apt to fail anytime. Apparently they used some bad hard drives in the mid-2011 27" iMacs which are problematic so they're offering me a free replacement to a brand new hard drive. I'll be sending in my iMac for the replacement sometime in the next few days.
In preparation for it, I've backed up my entire system using Time Machine into an external harddrive. The backup is up to date & includes all system files. I've also made a Lion install disk on an 8GB USB flash/pen drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
My question is: When I get my iMac back after the hard disk replacement, will I be able to restore my iMac to EXACTLY the way it was before the replacement using the Time Machine backup & the Lion install disk that I've prepared? When I mean EXACTLY, I do mean EXACTLY, e.g I don't have to re-install all the programs I have, my settings for the programs I have will stay intact, everything is where it should be etc...i.e EXACTLY the way my iMac is right now.
If yes, how do I do it? I've read Pondini's guide: http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
However it is less than clear on certain points, e.g in my case, which one do I have to use to restore my system to the way it was...the Time Machine backups I have on the external HDD or the Lion install disk that I made using Carbon Copy Cloner? And how do I go about doing the restore?

No. IIRC (if I remember correctly), you can either use a saved Lion installer (hopefully it exists on your backup/clone) or use the Recovery HD. If you have the USB stick w/Lion installer on it, use that.

There is a file in the iTunes library folder that contains your playlist information is the iTunes Library.xml file.
Try and find the file, usually located in one of these locations depending on your OS:
Operating System
Default location of iTunes Folder
Mac OS X
/Users/[your username]/Music
Microsoft Windows XP
\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
Microsoft Windows Vista
\Users\[your username]\Music\
Microsoft Windows 7
\Users\[your username]\My Music\
Then you can import this file to your iTunes Library like this:
1. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
2. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file
3. Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

FF updated itself and was shocked at the absolutely awful, terrible, horrible changes that have been made. I learnt a lesson, dont ever tic auto update.
