In CrystalReports how to insert return line in text Objetc and how to apply format bold to some word inside a paragraph.
¿Exist some internal command of Crystal that he indicates that from a position within the paragraph he is applied format bold?

Importing Excel Files and Formatting Issues

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. When in doubt, post in the forum! Anyway, I am using java via ODBC to connect to an excel file to extract some info from it, using SQL statements. Everything can be extracted without any problems, however, Excel keeps pi$$ing me off by changing the format of the cell data.
Firstly, I highlight every cell in my Excel file and format it as "Text."
Then I extract the cell info by using a ResultSet and getting a String (even for numeric data - ResultSet.getString(...))
What is getting on my nerves is that not only does it not extract numeric values followed by a string, when it does extract numeric values, it is adding a ".0" after the value.
For example, if the cell value is 123, it will return 123.0
If the cell value is 123SHOE, it returns null
Furthemore, when editing the Excel file, after having every cell formatted as "Text," if I enter a number, say, as a zipcode, 123450000, it brings up an error! But the very definition of "Text" states that "Text format cells are treated as text even when a number is in the cell."
The moral of the story is, I want to convert all data in the Excel file to "Text" and when extracting data from the file, I need to be able to extract numbers, numbers followed by characters, and everything else.

Hey Dr. Clap, quick question for ya. I was checking out the Apache POI you recommended. More specifically HSSF. I noticed in the documentation that "String cells cannot conatin numbers and numeric cells cannot contain strings." Unfortunately, this is not going to work well with my app as some of the primary keys (I use the term loosely) are Strings which contain numbers. My main problem is that my app wont recognize the Strings containing numbers, so it returns null, and Excel is chopping off the leading zeroes and is popping up with an error because numbers are in the String. However, as I stated before, Excel notes that text cells can contain numbers!
FYI, I am using Pervasive SQL to extract a given list of users in a DB (which I dont want to connect to directly) and am saving that generated query (list of users) into a text file. I then open the text file in Excel which parses it correctly and assigns the cells the correct values. So I don't think I can format the cells as text because I am importing the file I generate. I love doing things ass backwards :) Another reason I am using Excel files is so anyone can use the software so long as they have an Excel file with the appropriate columns within the file.

I created a poster in Pages and it is printing with all kinds of lines and boxes behind the text and images. When I go into the doc I do not see them there. Where is this coming from and how do I get rid of them?

Yes, I started with a Layout template. Yes, I did copy some text from Word - and this is some of the text with the problem so I will try deleting it and typing in the original text. But other parts that I am having problems with seems to be the previous boxes which were there as the template that I deleted - somehow their 'shadows' seem to still be there but only shows in print but not on my screen. If there is any other info I can provide to help you help me, please let me know!

Format bold text in field and putting some text on new line - Help!

I am lost. I found the rich text formating item to click. But after that, I don't know what to do next. I want to bold some characters and I want some reponses on separate lines as I asked previously. As to spans and the commands - I have no programming experience. I have just been using what George has given me. It has worked well, but I just need the bold text in some of the field text to be printed and I need some items to be on separate lines. But I have no idea where to put the information you are saying about spans and I do not know the script to use to bold text or to start text on new line. Am I to insert it in the calculation box of the text box? Sorry to be so lame, but I am void in programming skills. Help!
For example, here is the script. In aISOreq{0], if I want to bold "Patter#1 Check:", where do I put the span and what script do I use to say to bold it.   Could you give me an example, please. Also, if I want to put "a. Medications on weekend?" on one line and "b. Activities on weekends? Types of activities? Supervision? With who?" on the next line, where do I put the span and what script do I use to say to put on separate lines? Could you give me an example for this also, please. Look at the reference of the richValue property of the Field object. It contains a couple of examples of how it should be done. Also read the reference of the Span object.

Char. formats(Bold, Underline) in Long text editor not visible in ABAP WD

Hi ABAP experts,
Problem:
I have created long text with using bold and under line formats in long text editor (FM TEXT_ EDIT). I am trying to show same text in WebDynpro using READ_TEXT FM. But FM READ_TEXT is getting long text with HTML tags as shown below for bold and underline and it long text showed as same in WebDynpro application with HTML tags.

The normal text editor in Web Dynpro won't handle HTML tags (they get safe encoded as you described). In NetWeaver 7.01 we do introduce a FormattedTextEditor that allows for such formatting. There are APIs to convert from SAPScript based texts to the XHTML FormattedText tags.

How do I read from a text file that is longer than 65536 lines and write the data to an Excel spreadsheet and have the data write to a new column once the 65536 cells are filled in a column?

I have data that is in basic generic text file format that needs to be converted into Excel spreadsheet format. The data is much longer than 65536 lines, and in my code I haven't been able to figure out how to carry over the data into the next column. Currently the conversion is done manually and generates an Excel file that has a total of 30-40 full columns of data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No need to use nested For loops. No need for any loop anyway. You just have to use a reshape array function. The picture below shows how to proceed.
However, there may be an issue if your element number is not a multiple of the number of columns : zero value elements will be added at the end of the last column in the generated 2D array. Now the issue depends on the way you intend store the data in the Excel spreadsheet : you could convert the data as strings, replace the last zero values with empty strings, and write the whole 2D array to a file (with the .xls extension ) using the write to spreadsheet function. Only one (minimal) problem : define the number of decimal digits to be used;
or you could write the numeric array directly to a true Excel spreadsheet, using either the NI report generation tools or ActiveX commands, then replace the last elements with empty strings.
We need more input from you to decide how to solve these last questions.

I guess it is a normal format but my system seems to be unable to read binary plist ?
I tried some stuff with plutil

Same for convert

Problem in formatting of long text -- line break not recognized.

We have a PO smartform in our SRM system and we are facing problem with formatting of long text on the smartform for long texts maintained for the PO.
for ex, we maintain the long text as --
"this is long text for item 1.
1. this is line 1.
2. this is line 2."
On the smartform it is displayed as --
this is long text for item 1. 1. this is line 1. 2. this is line 2.
So basically, the line breaks in the text are not considered in the smartform .
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue ??

Which Std. FM are you using to fetch the PO texts? If the PO doesn't exist in your system, i'm afraid you cannot use Include Texts as mentioned by Harsh.
As an alternative you'll have to create a table & pass the text lines to it! I don't think SmartForms are not smart enough to identify new-line character.

Hi Tom,
Your LOOKUP formula will return a value that it finds in the "other" table. That value can be used in conditional highlighting rules. (Numbers 3 calls it conditional highlighting, not conditional formatting. Just to keep us awake, I guess, but it works the same).

Its like organizing lines and arcs and make it looks like a text(JAVA).

Tabs and formatting text

Hi, a couple of things. I know this is just a Beta version but:
When I paste text into the controls it ignores all tabbing.
When I try to align justify both left and right sides of the text it doesn't work.
I can't import text where some of the text is bold, italic, or
underlined.
I can't import text where some of the text is in different fonts.
I am trying to make an interactive book. So I need to be able to have properly formatted text.
Perhaps there should be an option for the controls to contain Rich Text Format or HTML text.
I would say the main things would be the tabbing, if I was pasting several paragraphs of text into a text Label or text Gallery. Second would be able to have bold or italic text inside a paragraph. I
think that would be really nice! I would think that a Sienna should have
more functionality than a webpage not less!
I suppose there are ways round it such as doing a copy and paste of my text and changing tabs into several spaces but I shouldn't really need to do that.

Thanks. At the moment I've decided to just use Visual Studio Express to make my eBook using a WebView control to display my chapters.
I think for me I still like the ability of Visual Studio to do advanced scripting.
But I think Sienna is good for prototyping and it did inspire me to make an eBook in the first place.
You could put a WebView component and it could display webpages with Flash content then people could make their apps in Flash! haha. It's all gone circular. :s

How to format bold text in SENDTASKDESCRIPTION method?

I'm using the SENDTASKDESCRIPTION method of SELFITEM object to send a message to an user's inbox in SBWP tx.
The description task has formatted text in bold using <H>Example</>. But at moment to display the message in user's inbox the text appears plane, without bold characters.
How can I do to display the text formatted in bold?

I debuged the method and found that the text is sent without format (ASCII).
The method used the FM SWU_GET_TASK_TEXTLINES and only obtain the "ascii_text_lines" table:

Removing new lines and carriage returns

SO I am new to regular expressions in java and I want to remove all the new lines and carriage returns from some text, and change them into 
I have tried,

Hello, i've got the same problem. I want to replace "carriage return" and "new line" from an text file. and i use the replace all function for a String object. The problem is, if i call the replace function like this:
row = row.replaceAll ("\\r", "");
The "carriage return" is replaced, but not with the "" characters, only with nothing.

After replacing with the function call row = row.replaceAll ("\\r", "");

How to keep all text and formats the same on multiple computers?

I'm creating a file in InDesign CS6 on my Windows computer. I keep everything on my flash drive. When I go to school, I bring my flash drive with me and open it up on the Mac computer, but then there are are compatibility issues. There seems to be missing fonts and formats but the school uses the same version of InDesign I do. Now I was told a lot of things of how to keep the fonts and formats the same (embed the links, package the files, outline the text, save as IDML). However, it is not clear to me what each of those options do, so I don't know when or why to use them. So I just want to make sure that when I bring in my file in next Monday, I won't have any missing fonts or formats. What would you suggest is the proper things to do to keep everything the same on multiple computers? And could you please explain why?

If you want cross-paltform comaptibility limit the fonts to OpenType or Windows TrueType formats, both of which work on both Mac and PC. To avoid missing font warnings the fonts must either be installed on each computer, or they must be in a folder named Document Fonts in the same location as the .indd file they are to work with. Packaging the file will build taht folder for you.
the rest of the stuff in your list won't help you. .idml would allow you to open on an older version, but does nothing for your situation. Embedding the links will keep you from having missing links, but so will packaging, and embedded links will make the file much larger and harder to work with.
For goodness sake, don't even think about outlining the text. It stops being text when you do that and you can no longer edit it.
And finally. do yourself a big favor and don't attempt to actually work on your file directly from the flash drive. Copy the whole package folder to the hard drive, work on it, then copy back. You don't want to know how many files are fatally damaged by write errors on flash drives.

In APEX 4.0, question on formating bold and underline in a table

I am using APEX 4.0,
I see I can format Bold and underline in a textbox using a control but when I save this to a clob in the database, it using the command punctuation and not really the underline or the bold.
I am using a word doc to display the contents of the clob but I just get the command punctuation and not the real underline or bold, what am I doing wrong?

You do NOT save formatting to a CLOB type column, hence the C lob (Character). If you want to save a Word style document to a column, then look at a Blob (Binary)..
