Return Standard Permissions to Portal Content Objects

Hello experts,
I was changing the Permissions of some portal content objects and accidentally I've modified the permissions of all the Portal Content Objects (including the standard objects). I clicked the "Reset child permissions" button of the Permission Editor of the "Portal Content" folder. Do you know any way to return the standard permissions?
Best regards and thanks in advance

Hi,
If you have another portal then you can transport permissions from the first to the seccond portal.

  • Portal Content Objects - Dropdown for "ID Prefix".

    Hello experts,
It's been a long time since I took TEP10 Academy, but I still remember when doing the exercises at SAP's Trainning Facilities that the ID Prefixes of all PCD Objects were not in an input field as the standard SAP Portal delivery does. Instead it was a drop down list that showed predefined values -com.sap-, so instead of writing the ID Prefix each time, you just select it from the list.
I'm currently doing lots of portal content in my current project and I remebered that functionality that would be particularly useful by now, I want to minimize typos when creating all PCD objects, so here I am asking if anyone know how to accomplish that.
    By that I mean:
-Define / set up several ID Prefixes for PCD Objects.
-Assign those ID Prefixes via a drop down list (combobox).
Or whateaver means via configuration (no developments) to accomplish the previously described objectives.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Transport of portal content objects from EP 6 SP 15 to NW 2004s portal

    Hello All,
My question is regarding the transportation of portal content from a EP 6 SP 15 portal to the NW 2004s portal. We had developed a lot of content in the EP 6 portal. We had installed and configured business packages in the SP 15 portal.
Now, we installed a new NW 2004s portal and we want to transport all the developed content from the SP 15 to the new NW 2004s portal.
I exported all the developed content to a transport package on the SP 15 portal and the export resulted in the .epa file. I then imported it into the new NW 2004s portal. But the issue now is I am unable to see the system aliases which were created for all the systems. The systems do exist in the new portal but the aliases do not exist.
Is there anything that needs to be done to get the system aliases?
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sunitha.

    Hi Sunitha,
I think while exporting you have to select the option include dependant objects also to get the system alias also.

  • Tool to access portal content objects offline

    Hi All,
One of the portal desktop rules configured on our Production system was giving a problem logging in.The problem stated the desktop does not exists, though it was created new. So we deleted the specific desktop and the corresponding desktop rule and since then we are not even able to login to the portal even with the admin user.
From one of the threads, we found found out that one can access the Portal Display rules directly, using such an url
    http://<YOUR_SERVERHOST_NAME>:<YOUR_PORT>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fadministrator!2fsystem_admin!2fsystem_admin_role!2fcom.sap.portal.system_admin_ws!2fcom.sap.portal.themes!2fcom.sap.portal.portalDisplayRules
However using this url we get an exception in red as <b>Acess Denined for the object. See details of the exception in the log files.</b>
How do we Resolve this error, as no one can access this portal and we need to reset the portal desktop rules as this is urgent.
Is there any other way from where we can reset the desktop rules without logging in to the portal, as we are not able to login in from the admin also?
Do we have any command line tool from where we can access the Portal Content offline.
    Thanking you well in advance.
    Thanks and Regards
    Laxman.

    Hi Laxman,
In my opinion; in the next releases portal drive cannot be extended to access pcd content because it is using webdav protocole to access KM. Webdav is a common method used to access files/folders remotely. ( http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4709.txt )
However, it will be great if a new tool will be released to access pcd remotely. Working with PCD on content administration menus are really hard.
    In your case, if I understand your point properly;
If you want to develop your portal without affecting end user, I suggest you to use a test server or install developer workplace on your laptop/pc. I frequently use locally installed developer workplace. When I am dealing with end-user critical works, first I try on local server and after seeing that it works, I move it to the portal. You can work on your local server without danger of breaking down the production server. If there are problems with local portal, you can reinstall or restore from backup easily.

    Abdul.

  • Question about permissions in portal content

    Hi all,
I'd like to ask you guys a question about permissions given to pages in the portal content (EP 6.0).
When a user accesses a page that contains an iView (for example one for a Web Dynpro, or for a BSP), and the page permissions are correctly set for the user (or a group the user is member of), everything works fine and the user can see and use the application contained in the iView.
If the Page has no permissions set and the user tries to access this page, an empty page appears instead and the "Detailed Navigation" column appears on the left.
I know I should not let the user see the link to the page he is not authorized to use (this is done managing the roles given to the user), but I'd like to know from you if it is possible to show a message like "unauthorized user" instead of the empty page that appears.
Can you also tell me how to keep the "Detailed Navigation" column hidden on the extreme left?
Thank you for any hint you can give to me.
    Lorenzo

    Hi Lorenzo,
a way how you might go ahead and hide or show content for specific user groups is via roles merging (see documentation <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/53/89503ede925441e10000000a114084/content.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/53/89503ede925441e10000000a114084/content.htm</a>
In essence, this means that you create for example 2 roles (A and B): A contains some content everyone can see, B more secure content for another group. You merge those 2 roles via a merge ID - and if a user has both roles, he sees the content in this workset with all the navigation options. If somebody only has role A, he will only see this content.
Maybe this is someting that could help with you considerations (always depending on the number of items that are affected, this might be a useful way, or leading to too much confusion, because you have too much different roles).
    Best regards
    Jana

  • Portal Content Directory Invisible

    Hi,
I could not find my Portal Content Directory in my Content Administration. What could be the problem? Kindly help me out.
    Regards,
    Kalai.

The problem is due to lack of role as by default the portal content directory will permit only super admin role so if you have created user with out this role then you have to either add your user or the new role to the permissions of the Portal Content Folder....
You can do this by logging into the user with super admin role and add your user/role to the portal content permissions...
Permissions can be added either from System administration or from Content Administration ...
System Administration --> Permissions --> Select Portal Content and add your role or user
Content Administration --> Dbl Clk Portal Content Directory --> in the display select box select Permissions and add your user / role ...
this might help as i faced the similar problem ....

  • Portal Content - Folder level Permissions

    Hi Experts,
The standard Portal Content Folder allows a developer to create any folders, iviews & other objects inside that folder.
But Users don't get access to delete the Portal Content Folder itself.
Now i am trying to set a folder & trying to give access to developers to create their stuff inside that folder ,,, When i give Full Control on that folder they can create edit objects inside but at the same time there is a fair chance that they delete the folder by mistake.
How do i restrict this?... One should have access to create objects inside the folder but not delete the folder itself.!
    regards,
    Shawn.

    Hi Shawn,
Please check the [Permission Inheritance Model|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ep60sp2/helpdata/en/f6/2604e905fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/content.htm] of PCD. The guide one [Setting Permissions|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ep60sp2/helpdata/en/f6/2604db05fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/content.htm] can be helpful to make sure that the Root Folder you are planing should not pass the Inherited permission to it's sub-trees if it is restricted to display only explicitly.

  • Transporting/Deploying Portal Content and Delta Linked Objects

I researching the best way to trasport/deploy changed ESS Portal content from sandbox to D>Q.  I have become familiar with the few changes my co. needs to deploy part of ESS.  I have read articles that say it is wrong to modify the "Content Provided by SAP".  The recommendation appears to be "use delta link objects". I created the necessary delta links in a new directory.
How do I get the delta link objects to display instead of the sap source objects? I this primarily related to how the  portal is configured or how the content is managed?
I'm really sorry about the general question (in advance) but this stuff is new for me and I'm essentially looking for some good direction here.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
Yes exactly right. You should create your own PCD folder under Portal Content to store your objects. How you structure that is entirely up to you, however in my experience I have seen two ways
    1. First by Function or Dept (e.g. Finance, Logistics, HR) then by technical object (iView, role etc...)
    2. First by Technical Object (e.g. iViews, Roles, Worksets etc...) then by function or dept or region (Finance, HR etc...)
Number 1 makes more sense to me. Just some other tips when it comes to creating PCD content:
    1. Put everything in your own namespace (e.g. com.mycompany) that way it is easy to separate from SAP content using filters.
2, Come up with a logical naming standard so you can easily identify content by group, function and technical type (e.g. for an iView you might name it whoswho with the prefix com.mycompany.hr.ivu resulting in a name com.mycompany.hr.ivu.whoswho)
    2. Don't give PCD folders any prefix (e.g. com.mycompany) as it ends up elongating the resulting URLs unnecessarily and you can run into problems down the track.
    Hope this helps you.
