Return to ACR basic panel

After making a local adjustment in ACR, the basic panel disappears. How do I return to the basic panel? Thanks, Richard

Ok, I guess I misunderstood what you intially said. I'm glad it's cleared up.
I agree some things in PS are unintuitive. My newbie experience was going to a copy shop to use their scanner. Photoshop was the default editor for their computers. I had to call one of the staff over, I couldn't figure out how to get the scan started.
I expected "File > Scan..." not "File > Import > Twain...".

  • Why can't I toggle between current settings and defaults on the ACR basic panel?

When I try to toggle between current settings and defaults, I get a blue or black screen in the "After" image so I can not compare before and after.  The toggle doesn't work when I am viewing a single image or when I am viewing before and after side-by-side.  The blue or black image looks like the image is totally clipped, but it's the same whether clipping is on or off.  Command-Option-P does not work either.  Also, the histogram totally disappears when I try to toggle.  So I think something is corrupted, and I'd like to know how to fix it.  BTW, this toggle works fine when I am in the adjustment brush panel; it's the basic panel where it doesn't work.  I use Photoshop CC (2014) and Bridge CC on a new iMac--Yosemite. All are up to date (ACR 8.7.1.311).  I am not using Lightroom.  I would appreciate a suggested fix.  Confession: I am very new to the Mac environment and just returning to Photoshop after an absence so I'm finding my way; there's a good chance I'm making a rookie mistake.  Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions on where else I might post my question.

The only fix at the moment is to hold the option key when clicking the green button.
Send Apple your feedback and this might get fixed: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Basic Panel Keyboard Shortcut No Longer Works

For some reason when I try to use the keyboard shortcut (command 1) to return to the basic panel it no longer works. Any ideas?

Is there a keyboard shortcut in your operating system for Cmd-1? This would most likely override the Lightroom keyboard shortcut.
Also, you can try deleting your preference file: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

  • ACR 7 Basic panel defaults

For my GH2 (.rw2 raw files) the Basic panel defaults are Exposure = +.54, Contrast = +31, Whites = -15, and all other at 0.
For my S100 (.cr2 raw files) Blacks = +25, all other at 0.
From this limited sample I deduce that each camera model has a baked-in set of defaults on the Basic panel, apparently independent of the individual profile.  Is this now the game?
    Richard Southworth

I might be misunderstanding you here (still quite early for me and coffee just kicking in!), but your defaults for PV2012 should all go to zero for each of the controls, and not vary between cameras. I therefore suspect that you previoulsy set some personalised defaults in ACR 6 (or whichever version you were using), and that ACR 7 has picked up on these and set the PV2012 defaults to take that into account? This happened with me when I first used LR4: I'd tweaked my default settings for ACR, and they were picked up by LR - for example, in ACR 5.6, my blacks were set to 3, and that became +10 in LR4/PV2012.
For the time being, I've reset my defaults to zero until I get a proper handle on PV2012 as it's a whole new ball game (but so far, I'm finding it to be far better than PV2010).

  • ACR & Bridge Panel artifacts

I am posting here as it might get seen by Adobe engineers. It is difficult to find a bug report link for Bridge CS6 (unless I am completely missing something).
I am running the following machine:
MacBook Pro 17" (late 2011) - highest spec model that one could purchase at the Apple store in Seattle.
Intel 2.5 Ghz. i7, 8 GB RAM, Anti-Glare screen. Upgraded with OWC Electra 480 GB SSD.
Mac OS X 10.8.2 currently installed (clean install with all updates from Apple - including the Java 6 update 5 - applied).
Disk Permissions repaired and Disk verified.
Starting with OS X Mountain Lion at 10.8.0, I noticed there are artifacts in some of the panel fields of both the Bridge preferences sheet and the ACR panels at times. This does not interfere with functionality of the programs, but is just not something I have seen in previous versions of Adobe CSx or under OS X 10.6.x through 10.7.x. I am assuming this has to do with OS X 10.8.x compatibility, but wanted to post for exposure of problem and to see if anyone else has noticed this issue.
    Here are images:
As you can see, there are artifacts in some of the fields.
I have been able to reproduce this in Bridge CS6 on the Labels panel by simply going to and away from the panel after relaunching Bridge CS6. The ACR issue shows up when I select the Adjustment Brush icon to view the panel, and then some of the artifacts show in other panel fields (including the Basic panel) once they have been 'activated'? It looks to me like the artifacts are coming from other panel labeling for fields, but can't be sure.
Hopefully one of the Adobe employees or engineers will see this and report it. I had sent an email to Adobe with the Bridge labels panel image attached about a month ago, but no word back on that one.
Again, this is a clean install with the defaults all in place. Other programs are running without artifacting (Office 2011, Sketchbook Pro, Apple programs, etc.).
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Moved thread to Bridge forum for better responses and visibility.
@CorkyO - You could use the bug report form here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
For reporting bugs with Bridge, you need to use Photoshop Feedback portal here: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family and it will be looked into by Adobe.

  • Basic panel disappeared from Develop module.  LR 5.7 Mac OS 10.10.1 Tried control clicking headers of panels that are still there.  Do not get a pop up list.  Can't find way to restore.  What should I do?

Basic panel in the Develop model no longer appears.  Started this afternoon.  Been using LR 5 since it came out.  No problem before today.  Searched forums and did the control click on develop module headers.  Check list doesn't appear.  What do I do next?  I did a Time machine restore but nothing changed.

I have now tried control click, command click, option click and combinations of these on 2 computers running the same lightroom versions, same Mac OS with the same result. No list of develop headers, no way to check/ uncheck.
LR on my MacBook has all the panels.  On my iMac Basic and Split Toning are missing.
The only result of clicking is collapsing or expanding the individual sliders under the headers.
My only thought now is to find the preference files for LR and delete them and see if the missing panels return.  Any other suggestions?

  • Why are clipping adjustments in the basic panel not being saved, updated or shown in the histogram? I am using LR 5.7 on a MAC OSX 10.8 etc.

Why are clipping adjustments in the basic panel not being saved, updated or shown in the histogram? I am using LR 5.7 on a MAC OSX 10.8 etc.

Here is more information and hopefully a better explanation. My version of
LR-5.7 (OS X 10.8.5) apparently does not save the .NEF (Nikon RAW) edits
done in the basic module. That means that I can correct exposure,
highlights, shadows etc. but once I go to another picture and returned to
the edited one the histogram (on the edited photo) and specifically the
clipping triangles are white or some other color. This is normally suppose
to indicate that some channel or all channels are clipped in the
highlight/shadow areas. If I adjust any slider in the Basic panel even as
little as one +/- value or press the J-key, the histogram will now show the
original edit. Moving on to another photo and then returning to to
previously edited one and again the edits are "not saved" and I have to hit
the J-key or adjust a slider to see the previously edited information
    reflected in the histogram.
This is especially frustrating for fours reasons. If I have edited a shoot
and return to it I cannot see from the clipping information whether the
original edit was correct and of course I might re-edit it (to some now
incorrect value). This brings up the second issue synchronization. I can't
rely on it because if I go back to fine tune a specific image in the batch
the triangles are white or some other color for that and every image. I have
to hit the J-key to show/hide clipping or the back slash key to see
before/after previews. This is the third issue which is very time consuming
and inefficient regarding my workflow. The forth issue is that I have
noticed that normally when an image is saved in PS, LR adds a copy of the
saved version to its catalogue. I have noticed that the PS to LR saves are
all wrong in terms of exposure (they are much lighter in tone) than the
original LR edit and the PS edit on my screen. If I check the PS to LR photo
in LR I notice that the Basic panel values have been changed and that I have
to sync the image with the originally edited RAW/NEF LR file to get it to
    look the same.
Note 1). I am using an Apple cinema display and a calibrated Eizo ColorEdge
monitor to view my NEF files. I have reverted back to using LR 4 however I
am not sure if I should expect compatibility problems with Camera Raw 7.4 in
LR 4 vs. Camera Raw 8.6 in LR 5.
Note 2.) I am going to do an import converting everything to .dng  to see if
    this is a work around.
Note 3). I would be interested in knowing if this issue is related to the PS
RAW engine ver. 8.6, the Adobe created NEF calibrations or LR 5.
    Note 4). I have duplicated this issue in OS X 10.8.5, OS X 9.xx and OS X
    10.10.1
Hopefully someone else has noticed this problem. Any shared information
would be valuable. Thanks for the reply.

  • How do I get the basic panel in the develop module to reappear in Lightroom 5?

Hello! I was editing a photo in Lightroom 5 the other day, and I thought I hit something, but all of a sudden the basic panel was missing. I went online to see how I can fix it, and what was suggested was to right click on one of the panels and it should have an option that says basic, in order to get the basic panel back. That is what I did, but what it does is just opens and closes the panels. I don't know how to get my basic panel back, I hope I can get some advice.
    Thank You!

The trick is to right-click on one of the other panel headers, e.g. Tone Curve, and you'll see a context menu allowing you ro reselect the Basic Panel.
Alternatively, when in the Develop Module simply do Ctrl+1 (Cmd+1 on a Mac), or in the menu bar go to Window>Panels>Basic Panel.

Right click on or near one of the other headers and a pop-up will appear and you will be able to select the Basic Panel for viewing.

    the short cut is F8
    left panel F7
    bottom film strip F6
    top panel F5
    left and right panel "tab"
thats on the common windows; no idea what the upper class do
I think we have all be caught out with the disappearing panels

This is one of the most commonly asked questions in this forum. See this.

  • In Module, the Basic panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

In Develop Module, the Basic Panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

When you say the Basic panel has disappeared, do you mean the whole right side panel or individual tools such as the White Balance tool is gone? If it is the whole right side panel that is missing, you may have hidden it. Using the Tab key, you can cycle between hiding and showing the side panels. You can also move your mouse over to the far right side of your screen to get the panel restored but it will disappear when you move your mouse off the panel. There is also a small triangle on the left edge of the right panel that you can right click on in order to determine the show/hide behavior (I personally use the manual mode).
Regarding the individual windows contained in the left/right panels, they can be opened and closed by clicking of the triangle that is displayed next to name of the tool in its header bar. While you can elect what modules will be shown on the LR Top panel, I am not aware of any mechanism to completely hide individual tools in the left/right panels. If all else failes, you can hit the Shift/Tab key combo a few times to restore all of your windows the the default behavior.

You have to change the photo to Process Version 2012.
Under the histogram in the develop module is a Lightning Bolt icon. Click on it.

  • Adobe "greyscale" available through Lightroom 5.4 or CC 'Basic Panel, B&W'?

Does "Black and White" selection In Lightroom 5.4/CC "Basic Panel" completely, fully convert an image to Adobe "Greyscale"? Do not want to create another large file by having to go into PS CC just to 'convert to 'greyscale'. Need to know if all color in files are removed when selecting B&W for publishing purposes, please.

thanks for your time and your response Geoff, but alas that is one of the criteria I've already tried without success.  :-)
    Here's what I just got on four random images;
This is on image 3 but the same thing applies to all of them.
    Before;                     brightness 0, contrast 0, blacks 0,
Auto (one image)       brightness 23, contrast 10, blacks 6,
Group, sync on          brightness  23, contrast 10, blacks 5,
    is auto still lit?                 YES
Apply auto again        brightness 23, contrast 10, blacks 6,
Point one is that the AUTO button is still lit after being applied. ?
Point 2 is in this case only the blacks are moving, allbeit only one notch I know, but I seem to recall it being a larger number on the other files I was trying it with and it varies from image to image as I recall.
The same thing seems to happen with the other auto button in DEVELOP, HSL / Color / B&W but the differences seem more noticable there, but there's more of them...
    Thanks again.
