You can't restore a Time Machine backup made with Snow Leopard onto a system with Tiger. You can, but you will damage Mac OS X.
In order to restore your Time Machine backup, you should have your Snow Leopard disc. Then, insert it and hold the C key while your MacBook Pro is starting. Finally, choose your language, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar), choose the option to restore the backup and follow its steps, so you will recover Mac OS X Snow Leopard

How Do I revert to Snow Leopard from Lyon?
The backups prior to Lyon install are not available... the restore button is not active.
    thanks!

You need to do a full system restore from your last Snow Leopard backup.

  • Must return to Snow Leopard from Lion

I had a one year old iMac and the power board failed. The mac store replaced my old iMac with a new one but the new one came with Lion and all my writing files were done on an old Word program. Most of my files cannot be opened with Pages using Lion. Is there a conversion program available so I can access my old Word files or do I have to go back to Snow leopard? I had no backup so how do I go back to Snow leopard? A second question: Seeing that this problem happened due to the failure of my under warrantee iMac, a failure I did not cause, will the Apple store restore my iMac to Snow leopard for me?

Taking this stepwise, so as not to confuse you.  I am not trying to insult, just to help you prioritize the actions.
First ... Your system came with SL, correct?  If so, you should have gray install disks.  If you have no gray install disks, call Apple, give them the serial number and they will send you duplicates for a nominal fee.  Even if you have the store reinstall SL, you want them because they have "hardware test" and other software that is good to have at home.
Second ... I would ask if the files are still on your system, "most of my files cannot be opened" suggests Apple did not overwrite your data, just the system files.
    Party party.
So, how to save your files (before any decision is made about going back to SL or staying with Lion)?
Buy an external self-powered disk.  Preferrably already formatted Mac.  USB 2.0 is slowest, but cheapest.  Firewire is twice as fast, but more $$.  2x as large as your main disk.  I have LaCie, and macsales.com carries many good "mac compatible" drives.
Then download CarbonCopyClone (free).  Use it to clone your main disk.  It is bootable, so at the very least you have a bootable alternate in case your HDD tanks.  Do not worry about SL yet ... just get the backup.
That will secure your data.  As to "keep Lion or go to SL", I have no valid opinion.  But at least you will have the SL install disks if you decide to.
Repost when that makes sense ... trying to avoid information overload.

  • Is there a way to get rid of Mountain Lion and return to Snow Leopard?

Eversince apple replaced my hard drive due to a recall and I installed mountain lion because it was touted as the greatest, i have been greatly disappointed. My system has slowed to a crawl, and there's just too much going on. I don't see the benefit and feel ripped off.

Restore your backup. (The one you made prior to replacing the operating system)

  • I'm fed up with Mountain Lion. Is there a way to return to Snow Leopard?

Every thing was fine until the "upgrade". Now I can not print, stream music via Airport, or use any other device on the wirless net. Computer can't find them. Plus I'm com[pletely conused over ICloud and would like to eliminate it completely.

Once you get straightened out consider backing up via a bootable clone. It can solve a lot of problems.

  • Can't install leopard or snow leopard on a new hd, macbook 7,1

    Hi guys,
I'm brazilian then sorry about my fails in english.
I have a Macbook Pro, I had a 320HD with Lion , recently I bought a MBox 2 audio interface with Pro Tools and these combination don't works on Lion, then I decided to return to Snow Leopard or Leopard.
I Put the new HD and tried to install from original Leopard... Nothing, I receive a panic screen saying that I need to restart and start again, and I Am in this loop forever.
I tried to install from Snow Leopard retail DVD and the same things happens.
I have started with C, with options (this time the boot options appears but when I choose the DVD the same pnic happens) aand tried to start using Command + R, but nothing at all.
Now the incredible event: with my Lion pen drive disc everythin happens normally, I Can install the system normally, without Problems.
    Someone to help me please!
I need my Pro Tools working and I hate piracy.
Thanks and sorry about this testament.

I suggest that you partition your HDD using DISK UTILITY.
Slide your Snow Leopard disk into thr Optical Drive.
    Begin the installation process.
A window will appear asking you to choose on which HDD you want to install Snow Leopard.
    Choose the new partition.
Snow Leopard will be installed in the new partition.
You HDD will have both Lion and Snow Leopard.
    Ciao.

  • CAN I REMOVE LION AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD

can i remove lion and return to snow leopard

I see the help offered.  I have just posted the same question and now see others with the same problem.  Lion may be fine, but for me It's giving me a headache.  A couple years ago I switched from a long time PC user to Mac largely because I was tired of the constant "upgrade" "patch and fix" merry-go-round we get with "those other guys".  My Macbook Pro worked well with Snow Leopard but was eventually talked into the Lion upgrade.  24 hours later, I'm sorry I did.  Some of my software that worked for me is not supported by Lion and neither is my Linkstation (where I have my files and backups).  I tried installing the disk that came with the system to revert or return to factory condition but it too returned an error message "...software not supported...".  I tried both pressing "C" during startup and when that failed, tried installing from the disk after Lion loaded, same result.
I see that suggested as a solution so I'll try again, just in case I missed something, but if there are other thoughts or suggestions, they are appreciated.  I've tried to go into disk utility to partician, nope not allowed, can should I "erase" the current partician or ????
I don't know... thanks for any suggestions to clean this up.
    Thanks.

    1. Copy out the entire iTunes folder, not just the iTunes Music.
The pathnames to the music are in the itunes library etc files. the playlists etc won't work, the user will have to match their exact user name as before, then if they overwrite their itunes playlist that will have to be rebuilt, another problem we will ahve to deal with.
    2. Copy the entire iPhoto library. It shouldn't be copied piecemeal unless absolutely necessary, and then should be reassembled before use.
True, but Apple doesn't expect users to revert to earlier versions of it's OS, it's not uncommon for them to include changes in newer iLife programs.
If the user goes and replaces their iPhoto Library completely, then it replaces the older version one, then it's another problem.
    6. Zeroing the entire drive isn't necessary, and leaving the Lion recovery partition won't hurt anything.
Zeroing isn't necessary, but  it prevents a lot of bad sectors failing later and data issues in OS X etc which are hard to resolve after the fact. So let the software Zero and take in a movie or have the hassle of reinstalling something later or rebuilding the entire drive.
Also if the user goes to Bootcamp or DU and partitions, for some reason DU hangs on bad sectors. Mapping off those bad sectors ahead of time prevents a lot of issues with hard drives. IMO.
...leaving the Lion recovery partition won't hurt anything.
We don't know that, and Apple doesn't expect it to be there with Snow Leopard install, it can potentially cause problems later.
I'm more of the mind that keep things the way Apple expects them to be, rather than take a chance.
The OP can install 10.7 again from MAS by simply option clicking on Purchases and redownloading and running the installer, which will recreate the Lion Recovery Partition again.
But what if the LR is already there and they go try to install Lion again only to have it hose up on a pre-existing LR?
That's what I'm thinking along the lines of, trying to prevent issues from occurring later on and for the next tech or adviser who can't tell the LR is there or not.

You will need Snow Leopard to install Lion unless you buy it on the USB drive from the Apple Store. You may wish to think about buying a Snow Leopard disc in case you wish, like some others, to return to Snow Leopard if Lion is not suitable for you. I personally saw the advantage of paying for SL and downloading Lion which was about the same cost as just buying the Lion USB installer.
    Good Luck

  • Help Downgrade to Snow Leopard due to Constant Freezing from YouTube and Update Failures?

I love the new OSX Lion, however due to youtube being my most visited site, the widespread issue between new iMacs with Lion and Flash Player is bad enough that I would like to return to Snow Leopard. My computer has already frozen and needed to be restarted upwards of 15 times. If I no longer posses the Snow Leopard install disc (never thought I'd need it since I upgraded), is there any way for me to revert to Snow Leopard? I just can't stand the freezing, as well as how long it takes to restart following said crashes, it has rendered my mac nearly unusable. Also, when I run the Software update application, updates keep finishing downloading and then telling me that the download "Can not be saved" which forced me to move my music library to Spotify. Although after 3 days the iTunes update did finish however i did not want to go back to iTunes for fear of future problems. Help?

I've already tried all of those methods using the 10.6.3 disks I bought, they simply don't work as I posted earlier.
All that happens is the machine constantly bleeps 3 times in a row and the DVD drive stops spinning. I know booting from a DVD install disk is a slow process but no matter how long I leave it nothing happens except for the 3 bleeping sounds.
Having scoured the net and spoken to Apple themselves all information tells me these 10.6.3 disks are actually for someone upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I have no idea why Apple sold me this version as before I ordered it I explained fully to the sales person what I was wanting to do and they had all the details of this mid 2011 iMac I have bought. So unless the sales person didn't have a clue what they were talking about then I should be able to "downgrade" to Snow Leopard on this iMac as even the specs for this model clearly state on everymac.com that it originaly shipped with OS 10.6.6 (Snow Leapard)
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-comparison-chart/?compare=all-intel-macs&hi ghlight=0&prod1=iMacIntel041
So there must be somewhere I can purchase these 10.6.6 install disks to "downgrade". Trouble is on Ebay or Amazon where you can buy Snow Leopard most of them are 10.6.3 or "retail" versions with no actual version numbers to let me know I'm buying the correct disk.
Who would have thought setting up your computer could be a mission impossible task and why Apple don't help is simply a disgrace to be honest.

  • Can I return my iMac to snow leopard

Can I return my iMac from Lion to Snow Leopard?

Did it come with Snow Leopard originally? Or with Lion? If it came with Lion, most likely not; there are a few exceptions with machines that were built right around the release of Lion and may still boot in SL - you'd have to check with Apple as to the build number if it would work. If you have the SL install disk, yes - you can do it: but the hard drive has to be erased first so have a backup, then boot from the disk, erase the hard drive, and reinstall.

  • How can I return to the Snow Leopard version of Quick Look?

Lion does not allow playing more than one movie clip in succession, using Quick Look. In Snow (and earlier), you can select a bunch of clips, hit the spacebar, and they each play in alpha/numeric order without clicking the arrow button to play the next one. So, if your movie project is 10 clips in a folder, you highlight each and hit Space (play), you've got to click the forward arrow per clip. That's 10 times. You can't see your project as a whole. How can you get that function back? It's the same deal when quick-looking photos.
I prefer this method because it does not put what you view into the Recent Items.

The only way to return is to remove Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard.
