Returnable transport packaging concept.

Dear Experts,
Please help me to understand Returnable transport packaging concept. what are the pre requisites involved like material master data. & regarding traceability of the material.

Hi all SAP GURUS,
we have 1 special requirement involving of Capital Tools/Equipments( Capital Asset  ), which we need to send to different sites thru ordinary truck wherever it requires and once the work is complete at site then 2 possibilities
1)  If there is no further demand on tools then again we will take back of tools from site to our plant
or
2)  If any demand further for tools then  we need to send these tools from that site itself to another site where it requires.(i.e means not taking back the tools from the site to our plant.)
Note : In some cases some of tools not further required then some we will take back to our plant and some are again sent to another site where ever it trequires
Requirements to be fulfilled are:
Till we didnt created any Material masters for this so suggest the best possible method to follow in order to suit the above requirement considering the below constraints.
1) Tracking of Capital Tools at every point of time
2) Considering the Excise and Taxes involved in the above process at different poins of time
3) Documents which are required to prepare as per all Laws.

  • Returnable transport packaging for Subcontracting material

    Dear All,
I have a doubt regarding a new process to be followed in our company. We need to issue raw material to our subcontractor for processing. We also intend to send packaging material to the subcontractor along with the raw material. Ie We are sending the raw material to the subcontractor along with the packaging material ( say, in boxes).
I would like to know how to address this issue.
    What We tried
Standard SAP is allowing the vendor's Packaging material to be "received" from the vendor when we Purchase material from the vendor using movement type 501 'M'. After this, we are able to see this as a "special stock" as RTP ( Returnable Transport Packaging ) in T code MMBE. After this we can issue the packaging material  back to the vendor using movement type 502 'M' . There is also a provision to send " our" packaging material to a customer through a Sale order, and receive it back from them.
But is there any standard process for sending "our" packaging to a subcontractor and receiving it back from them ?
We also tried including the packaging material in BOM, and sending it through 541 movement  but in this case, when we perform Goods receipt ( 101 movement of the parent material ), the packaging material gets consumed, which should not happen. We want them back in stock.
We also tried using the option "Non - Ordered item" for the packaging material while performing Goods Receipt of the parent material. But this would increase the stock of the packaging material without us even issuing the same to the vendor initially. ie  More stock will be there than is actually present.
So how else do we address this issue ?
    Regards,
    Velu

    Hi Velu,
This scenario can be automated as well in BOM.
While maintaining the BOM for the subcontracting material, include the packaging component as twice, but one with negative quantity. PFB screen shot.
Also turn of the costing relevancy indicator and maintain material provision indicator as "K"(customer material) for both the line item.
So while doing GR for the sub contracting, system post automatically 543 and 545. Hope this is useful, if it is so, your rewards are awaited .

  • Returnable Transport Packaging Material In ASN ( EDI -856)

    Hi,
We are working on inbound delivery creation with returnable transport packaging (RTP) materials. We want to create inbound delivery with RTP and we are passing RTP material in E1EDL24 without reference document (i.e. purchase order or PSA) as we are receiving without any reference.
We are using message type # DESADV & Basic type:DELVRY03. Currently, IDOC is failing and it's looking for reference PO for RTP material but we don't have RTP item on PO.
Any suggestion/guidance on how to handle RTP material with ASN and create inbound delivery with RTP material ? In otherword, I am looking for IDOC segement mandatory fields for RTP material.(Note : I can add item in inbound delivery without any reference but not able to do with ASN)
    Thanks.

  • Returnable transport packaging

    Hi,
When i do a GR for a PO, i also receive the RTP Stock with <b>501 M</b> Movement type giving the vendor name of the RTP stock.
When i am sending back the RTP Stock with <b>502 M</b> i can give a different vendor for the same stock.
Want to know is there any check on this stock so that it should sent back to same vendor.

    Hi
You can't send the RTP stock of one vendor to another vendor with 502 M.System will throw error message M7 076 , Special stock of this vendor doesn't exist. This error will be called from program itself.
In your case i don't know why this is not giving the error.
Try by configuring the message as error in SPRO-> MM-> IM and PH -> Define attributes of system messages.

  • Returnable transport packing

    Hi All,
It is agreed with the vendors that the empty oil drums and pallets will be returned to them.
    1) Is it right to use LEIH material type for creating material master for empty drums and returnable packing?
    2) Which report is available in the system from which I can see how much stock of Returnable transport packing is belonging to which vendor?.
    thanks and regards

    Hi,
LEIH is the correct matreial type used for RTP (Returnable Transport Packaging)
you can receive such materials via mvt. type 501 M and specify vendor.
please go through link for info on RTP.

you  can get reports on basis of mvt type 501 M, MB1B ...
    hope this helps.

  • Transport layer and transport package

I have a fundamental query on transport package and layer.
Objects are classified in packages depending on the project and put in $TMP or test package else they are local ? Only objects belonging to a transport package can be transported , others are not ? How transport package is defined ? All objects must be a part of transport package else can not be transported ?
ABout transport layer, I understand this is used to define which path objects will take during transport particularly when there are multiple transport routes. But what are the advantages of it ? How we can define it (trx code/menu path) ?
Is it mandatory to use transport package and layers ?

    Hi Mike,
Just to clarify a few basic concepts:
A transport package (formerly called a "development class", a term you may still encounter) groups related development objects. Whenever you create a new development object (table, program, ...) you have to assign it to a package; the object is then placed into a transport request. Alternatively you can indicate it is a local object (its package is then "$TMP") but such an object is non-transportable.
A transport layer identifies the route that transportable devmt objects must follow. Typically in your system you will have two layers: a layer usually called Zxxx (with xxx = SID of your development system) is used for your own developments. Another layer called "SAP" is used for transporting SAP objects, for example changes to standard SAP code implemented via transaction SNOTE and recorded in repairs. Without the "SAP" layer in place, repairs would be non-transportable.
Each transport package belongs to a layer. You assign the layer when you create a new package in transaction SE80. You can change the layer later on, but this is rarely needed and can cause quite a few side-effects. SAP objects always have layer "SAP". The layers themselves are managed in STMS, under "Transport Routes".
    Hope this clarifies things,
    Rgds, Mark

  • Best Practice: Usage of the ABAP Packages Concept?

    Hi SDN folks,
I've just started on a new project - I have significant ABAP development experience (15 years+) - but one thing that I have never seen used correctly is the Package concept in ABAP - for any of the projects that I have worked on.
I would like to define some best practices - about when we should create packages - and about how they should be structured.
My understanding of the package concept is that they allow you to bundle all of the related objects of a piece of development work together. In previous projects - and almost every project I have ever worked on - we just have packages ZBASIS, ZMM, ZSD, ZFI and so on. But this to me is a very crude usage of packages, and really it seems that we have not moved on passed the 4.6 usage of the old development class concept - and it means that packages do not really add much value.
I read in the SAP PRESS Next Generation ABAP book (Thomas Ljung, Rich Hellman) (I only have the 1st edition) - that we should use packages for defining separation of concern for an application. So it seems there they are recommending that for each and every application we write - we define at the least 3 packages - one for Model, one for Controller and one for view based objects. It occurs to me that following this approach will lead to a tremendous number of packages over the life cycle of an implementation, which could potentially lead to confusion - and so also add little value. Is this really the best practice approach? Has anyone tried this approach across a full blown implementation?
As we are starting a new implementation - we will be running with 7 EHP2 and I would really like to get the most out of the functionality that is provided. I wonder what others have for experience in the definition of packages.
One possible usage occurs to me that you could define the packages as a mirror image of the application business object class hierarchy (see below). But perhaps this is overcomplicating their usage - and would lead to issues later in terms of transportation conflicts etc.:
                                          ZSD
                                            |
                    ZSOrder    ZDelivery   ZBillingDoc
Does anyone have any good recommendations for the usage of the ABAP Package concept - from real life project experience?
All contributions are most welcome - although please refrain from sending links on how to create packages in SE80
    Kind Regards,
    Julian

    Hi Julian,
I have struggled with the same questions you are addressing. On a previous project we tried to model based on packages, but during the course of the project we encountered some problems that grew overtime. The main problems were:
    1. It is hard to enforce rules on package assignments
    2. With multiple developers on the project and limited time we didn't have time to review package assignment
    3. Devopelers would click away warnings that an object was already part of another project and just continue
    4. After go-live the maintenance partner didn't care.
So, my experience is is that it is a nice feature, but only from a high level design point of view. In real life it will get messy and above all, it doesn't add much value to the development. On my neew assignment we are just working with packages based on functional area and that works just fine.

  • Java package concept in ABAP Objects

Hi, just a question on grouping of classes in ABAP Objects.
In Java, you can group classes by "package" to avoid
namespace collision, my question, in ABAP Objects, how
do you group classes to avoid namespace collision?
I know that there is package concept in SAP/ABAP but it
    is different concept in Java.
Thanks in advanced for your reply.

    Hello One and Lonley,
the package concept in ABAP and Java is quite different. In java the package name is part of the development object in ABAP not. So any class pool name is global unique. In combination with the restriction on 30 chars this leads often to somehow cryptic names.
The only way to escape this somehow is the excessive use of local classes. That mean classes defined within main programs. If you are on 7.00 you may check FuGr SAPLSAUNIT_TREE_CTRL_LISTENER for this technique.

  • Error while importing Transport Package ?

    Hi,
I have created a Transport Package which includes the following things :
    1. Two folders
    2. Two iViews
    3. one .par file
I am trying to Import the above package by choosing the option 'Source for package file - client' and then browsing where my .epa file is placed.
When i click the Upload Button I am getting the following error -
'Error extracting the package file. Check the log file for details'
What can be reason for this error?
    Regards,
    Vikas Khandpur

    Hi Vikas
It is not generally advised to Package a .PAR file into a .EPA file. Because a .PAR file may depend on parts that are not included in the .EPA file which might cause incosistent transports.
You can directly upload a .PAR file into the Portal. Just go to System Administration -> Support -> Portal Runtime -> Administration Console and upolad the .PAR file.
Try removing the .PAR file from the Transport Package and download the exported .EPA file. Import this new file and see if it works this time.
    Hope that helped

  • Portal Run time error when created a seperate role for Transport package.

    Hi Experts,
I have created a seperate role for Transport Package(import/export iviews).
Normally we have transport package functionality in system admin.
Below steps i followed for creating the new role(trans admin)
1.Copied SAP provided system admin role to a seperate folder.
2.Deleted reamining portal objects(like UWL, portal display etc ..) except transport packege workset.
3.Renamed the role to trans admin.
I have assigned that role to my self, it is working fine to me when i clcik on export and import.I have super admin role.
when i assign this role to some portal users, Export is not working.
when user clicks on Export role they are getting below error.
    Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
    iView : N/A
    Component Name : N/A
    Access denied (Object(s): com.sap.portal.system/security/sap.com/NetWeaver.Portal/medium_safety/com.sap.portal.appdesigner.contentcatalog/components/Framework).
    Exception id: 12:10_31/08/09_0031_21763550
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
By looking into exception iD also, same error access denied it is showing.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks

    Hi Raghu,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have given full permissions to all users to this trans admin role before itself.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Assigning query elements to a transportable package

    Hi experts,
when i create a query and want to transport it i have to assign it to a transportable package. The problem is that a query has a big number of elements which are assigned the package &TMP. I have to assign all these elements to a transportable package to transport. Is there a possiblility to assign all of it to a transprtable package in one step?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Ali

    Hi Ali,
I know this is more manual work.
But you can do this way -->
In the transport connector you have a push button called PACKAGE. Click on it and here you can filter on ibject type as ELEM now you will get all the elemements which are there in your system.
Now you need to select the required ELEM which are belongs to your query and then say OK this will prompt a popup to change the package. Now you can change the package here and then refresh the screen to see the changes.
    Hope this resolves your issue.
    Thanks
