Returned Emails

I don't seem to be receiving all my emails as I have just been informed that several people have had their email to me bounce back undelivered. I am receiving some emails so the problem obviously doesn't apply to all senders.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Are you sure that they have the correct email address for you. Try sending them a test and have them use the reply to function rather than inserting your email address.
You should also check your spam folder in the BTYahoo webmail in case they are there and while there check under Options that their email addresses are not in your blocked address box.

  • How can I change the return email address in Mail?

    Hi
Having just switched to a Mac and just got broadband I was quite pleased with myself managing to download an email into Mail....
However, we use a forwarding email address at bigfoot.com so that we can always quote the same email address whatever our ISP given address. How can I make this the default return email address on emails I send, rather than the [email protected] that we have been assigned?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Stuart.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here, paste in a text editor, modify the email address, then copy the whole command again, and paste in Terminal), and press <Return>:
    defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Reply-To" = "[email protected]";}'
The following article contains a more thorough description of this technique that takes into consideration the possibility that you might inadvertently overwrite other default headers by doing that:

  • How do you change the default return email when distributing a PDF form

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to distrube a pdf form as a customer survey to various client/contact emails.  As a test, I chose to distribute the form, filled in the form distribution information and I send the form to myself. However, when I filled it out and chose 'submit form' it prompted me with the return email address that I know is incorrect and want to change.
As the author of the form, I need to change the default return email address, but there is no option to do so when I choose to distribute the pdf form  or any new form that I create (only prompted me the very first time I chose to distribute a form).
Does anyone know how to change the return email address and information for form distribution?  Can someone please help me with this?
    Thank you very much!

The email address that it uses it what is set in the Identity user preference: Edit > Preferences > Identity > Email Address
so change it there before you distribute.

  • Two problems  1 changing default return email  2 fillable forms in adobe x mobile

Hi can anyone tell me how to change the default return email form forms?  during intial set up of live cycle I mistyped the return email address and every form I go to build now wants to send the information back to a non existent address.... I can't find anywhere to correct the issue ... please help!
2ndly  I can't get any of my distibuted forms to be fillable in adobeX on the android operating system doe anyone know how to fix that?
I have gone through the helpfiles and used advanced extensions all to no availe

That should work yes. Not to say that there isn't anything else that will cause this but it's the typical reason why it happens.
It shouldn't cause any conflicts in a Mac. At worst, Reader may want to open PDF's by default but they can easily switch that back by highlighting a PDF, choosing File>Get Info>Open with, choosing Preview and clicking "Change all". When I installed Reader, Mac Preview remained the default Reader until I told it to use Reader.
Mac and Windows users can get the reader at http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO. It will detect their OS and give them the correct download.
One thing, if they decide to keep Preview as their default PDF Reader then they will have to actually open Reader and use File>Open to open PDF's in Reader.

  • Virus-like returned emails in Mail

    I use Mail 1.3.11(v622) on OS X V.10.3.9.
Recently I have started to receive emails that are supposedly bounced back to me, although I haven't sent emails to the addresses they have bounced back from.
The message I receive is as follows:
    "SMTP_Error []
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
The full mail-text and header is attached!"
The emails usually come with an attachment "mail.zip" or "mail_body.zip".
I use Pacific.Net as my online server. Is it a problem with Mail or pacific.net? It seems like the virus problems I have encountered on Microsoft Outlook on PCs. Could it be a virus?
Also, one of my regular email recipients tells me that she is not receiving my emails and that when she tries to email me it bounces back with a message about "virus protection".
    Help, please!

More than likely, the attachment included with these bogus return email messages are infected with a Windows virus and if opened on a Mac, can cause no harm.
Since an authentic bounced message from a recipient's incoming mail server does not contain,
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
these messages are either spam or a Windows user has been infected with a virus who has your email address in their address book. The virus sends an email (with infected file attached) to every contact in the infected user's address book and randomly selects a contact's address from their address book to appear as the sending email address for the message or messages. This occurs without the infected user's knowledge.
This method enables the virus to spread quickly since the majority of users are more inclined to open an attachment received from someone they recognize and/or the message received does not appear as spam. This message also appears to be a problem the recipient needs to address so they open the attachment and get infected.
Recently, I received the identical message 4 times with my POP account provided by my ISP and each message appeared to be sent by a different email address. I forwarded these messages (with long headers shown) to my ISP and within a couple of days, I received a message from my ISP indicating they blocked the sender's IP address from being able to send messages to my ISP's domain. All 4 messages were sent by the same computer/IP address so these were determined to be spam that happened to contain an attachment infected with a Windows virus.
Although these attachments can cause no harm to your Mac, contact your ISP about forwarding the messages to your ISP with long headers shown so they can determine if all messages were sent by the same computer IP address (if your ISP provides such a feature) or mark the messages as spam and then delete them.
Also, one of my regular email recipients tells me that she
is not receiving my emails and that when she tries to email
me it bounces back with a message about "virus protection".
Does this regular email recipient have a Hotmail address and is the recipient a Windows user?
If messages sent by this person are being bounced back by the incoming mail server for your account, you need to contact your ISP or email account provider.

  • How do I return emails to the sender

    Hi,
Sorry if I'm being a bit slow with this query. I would like to know how to return emails to a hotmail  account with some kind of error message. Is this possible? I can't find anything obvious.
    Thank you

If you want an auto-reply and this email is always coming from the same account you can make a rule. Choose Reply to Sender as the action (enter your error message) and choose the sender and activate the rule.

Probably not. Anyone who knows what to do can make an email look like it came from whatever address they want.

  • Fillable Form Return Email Address

  • I have hundreds of returned emails I did not send

My mac.com email is returning hundreds of emails I have not sent. How do I notify apple my account has been hacked

When people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
There are two things that can happen. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
The other problem is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam.

  • Ipad returning email

my ipad (both hotmail and gmail) is returning mail as spam.  It is only to one specific company, it will emial all other contacts, apart from anyone with this particular email address.  My iphone wont send either.  However it is not a problem with gmail or hotmail as I can email the address from my laptop no problems at all.  I get a message on my ipad saying it has been returned as spam saying
' technical details of permenant failure: google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipeint domain.  We reccommend contacting the other email provider for further information.....the error that the other service returned was 554554 sorry, message looks like spam to me(state 17)'
if it was the other server, then sure it would be blocking my email addres or ip address when i send from my laptop too??
I have restarted my ipad, removed all email address and added them again.  Email is not in sync with itunes, so I have treid that too.  I need to be able to email this company for work related reasons and it was much easier when I can email from my ipad.  I have emailed them before, this problem is on,y a few days old.  I have not updated the ipad in that time, nothing has changed.  any advice greatly appreciated

Yet the problem seems to be on their side as the email leaves your iPad, goes through google servers, tries to get to destination and get denied. So it's not on your iPad side but their side

  • Mail is changing my return email address and won't stop

I have 3 gmail addresses set up in Mail. Two are for 2 separate businesses and 1 is for personal. When sending a message, no matter which account I put in the return address box, when I get a reply it comes back to the inbox of my personal gmail address. All my business emails are being replied to my personal address and it's confusing my clients. It also makes it a pain to keep my business emails organized.
When I check the reply messages, they have been changed from my business return address to this personal address. This is really ticking me off. I just switched from a pc and was hoping the mac mail client was going to work better than Outlook but so far it is worse. I thought all this mac stuff was supposed to bug free, no crashes, etc., etc. So far I'm having some serious buyers remorse. It ain't living up to the reputation. I got a number of other issues but I'll keep this discussion to the mail thing.
    Help. Please.
    Thanks,
    Roy

I'm running OSX 10.7.2 btw. Mail is 5.1. I have a drop down box below the subject line in my "new message" that says "From" and I have a choice of any of the email addresses but no matter what I put in that line, replies always come back to the personal address. I've changed the preference in compose to one of my business email addresses and I think I'll just leave it like that and see what happens. Maybe after a day or 2 I'll change it back and see if it works properly then.
Found Library and mail preference file but I'm not ready to test dumping that and having to reload accounts again. If nothing changes, I'll give that a try.
Hey, thanks again for all the advice. It's been very helpful!

  • Returned email from gmail accounts

In the past few weeks (since upgrading to Mavericks, but I don't think that's the real issue), I've been having trouble with the Mac Mail app. I have several email accounts linked here, but the trouble only occurs with my AOL domain. If I send personal emails to a gmail user (not bulk/spam/etc.), they will be returned saying that email has "permanent fatal errors." This ONLY happens from the Mail app; if I send an email to a gmail user directly from the AOL mail website, it goes through without a problem. I changed all my passwords when the Heartbleed news came out, but maybe that's an issue? HELP!

No, responding to emails is very easy, so yes, you must be doing something wrong
This phone is a royal pain in the a**.
No, its about as intuitive as they can get. The manual is here though http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf It usually helps to get your own configuration correct otherwise its not likely to work.
That said, how have you configured your email account ? Give us details (minus your password obviously) and how you are connected. Does it ONLY happen with incoming gmail emails or have you only tried it on them ?

  • Returned Email from AOL

Quite a bit of email I send to friends with AOL addresses gets returned to me. The below link is included in the rejection notice I receive from AOL:
    http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421rlycs4.html
I read AOL's explanation of the the problem, which seems to blame Mac's email server.
How do I resolve this problem.
    Thank you.
    iBook G4, 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   756mb memory

    Hi--
I read AOL's explanation of the the problem, which
seems to blame Mac's email server.
But keep in mind that AOL's explanation is kind of a guess. It's just looking at the mail traffic and deciding, based on some factors programmed into its logic, whether or not a certain message is spam or not. In this case, it thinks for some reason, that the pattern to your emails looks like a server with an open relay.
I run a number of email lists and have sometimes been blacklisted by AOL (they usually blacklist for 24 hours). I have figured out a couple of triggers. One, obviously, is if a certain number of people mark my emails as "spam". People sign up for the emails, then forget they signed up, or can't figure out how to unsubscribe (even though it's right in the email), so they mark it as "spam". It only takes one or two people to mark it as "spam" befor they clamp down.
Second, even once I've gotten my server whitelisted with AOL, I've found that if I send my emails too quickly, AOL will start blocking my server. My lists are in the thousands, and AOL users account for about 10% of the emails. They're spread out fairly evenly across the thousands, so it's not like I send a couple hundred emails to AOL all at once, but if I don't put about a half second to a second between all emails, AOL starts rejecting the emails.
How do I resolve this problem.
A couple of things to try: first, don't put too many AOL addresses in the "CC" fields on an email. That might trigger their filters, especially if there are pictures attached to the email. Try to space them out, too. Don't send more than a couple in a minute.
Finally, like a brody suggested, contact .Mac's support. They're more likely to be able to communicate with AOL and get some results than you. They'll ask for you to do some tests, so set things up with an AOL friend ahead of time if you have to do a lot of emailing of test messages.

  • Getting MASSIVE amounts of returned emails... not sent buy us

    Hi all,
This weekend we started to received a ton of returned e-mails (over 2500 initially... more flowing in) on my boss's e-mail account. All of these e-mails have her return e-mail address in the body of the e-mails. They are coming from various IP addresses all over the world.
The programmer that we contract with says that he doesn't think that our server has been hacked (we are being used to send the e-mails) and that there is nothing that can be done.
I've turned up our junk mail settings on the server (OSX Tiger Server) to a moderate setting to see if that slows down the incoming returns. It was formerly set to low. I have also turned on the virus scanning features too.
Since I'm not up on e-mail servers... and didn't set up the e-mail services initially... I'm not sure what to do.
Can anyone offer up some advice? Is there a way to delete that e-mail account and give her a new one without having to delete her entire profile and create a new one?
I'm afraid that these incoming returned e-mails are going to jam up operations as each of them has an attachment of various sizes. Even at 10k, it'll still add up to gianormous proportions if we keep getting thousands a day. Not to mention it basically shutting down her e-mail inbox...
Thanks for ANY advice you can provide.
Network specs: G4 DP 1.25 server w/2GB RAM, running OSX Tiger Server (latest upgrade). We have approximately 20 macs of various flavors all running Tiger networked to the server, utilizing roaming profiles (user folders stored on the Server).

    Alex,
Here are a couple of minutes of the mail log. It appears that it is just incoming (returned) e-mail (or at least that is what I think it is...). The IP address on this cut is from a China IP provider according to a whois check. This appears to be the typical type of traffic in the log. There are other IP addresses though... not all of them came from the IP address in portion of the log shown below.
I also passed on your tutorial on configuring the mail server to our programmer. I'm not comfortable with line command stuff at this time, so I'm going to let him make the changes.
