Returning a Z10 to Rogers

For those of your wanting to return your Z10 from a retailer for whatever reason. My reason was that there is no direct sync function that has been available in all previous BB.
The lesson here for Rogers service providers in Canada is, if you use the phone for more than 30 minutes of talk time the phone is considered used and they will not accept the phone back. It is yours.
When I purchased the phone the sales person only told me I could return the phone in 15 days for a full credit. No mention of the 30 minute policy.
Buyers beware

  • Unable to move Calendar and Contacts from 9810 (OS7) to Z10 on Rogers.

I have tried both BB Link and SD Card device transfers and both don't work for my Contacts and Calendar.
I am with Rogers and my Calendar is associated with my rogers.blackberry.net email which is no longer supported on OS 10.  How can I move the calendar entries over?  I think they moved over, but since I can't sent the rogers.blackberry.net email up, they will not show.
For my contacts, when I look at my OS 7 contact options, they are associated with "Unknown".   This may have started when I switched from my BB9800 (OS 6) to my BB9810 (OS7).  I believe the contacts all moved over to the SD card during the device switch, but they too are invisible until I add "Unknown" email address.  LOL
My question is this:  Since these two items appear to have been saved to the file on the SD card, is there a way to edit these two files directly to re-associated them with a more "correct" email address?
Rogers BB Support will not support me.

    Hey RalleyMeister,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
I would suggest checking out this KB article on data that is not migrated over to the BlackBerry Z10: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB33523
Your best bet is to synchronize the calendar and contacts from the BlackBerry Torch 9810 to Microsoft Outlook or a Gmail account and then have it synchronized wirelessly to your BlackBerry Z10.   Follow the steps in this blog to setup Outlook to wirelessly synchronize that data: http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2013/02/how-to-setup-outlook-to-wirelessly-synchronize-your-contacts-...
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Z10 Hardlock

Bought a z10 today (hardware upgrade), and I need to unlock it as I travel quite a bit and using a foreign sim is the best option for me.
My carrier (Rogers) doesn't give out unlock codes, or at least I can't get them to give me one, not really sure why they have this policy.  Anyways, that's never been a big deal since I've always just used one of the many unlock providers online.
Today, I bought an unlock code online and it didn't work.  Tried it again, same thing.  Then I bought another unlock code from a different retailer.  Didn't work.  Tried again, same thing.  Repeat with another carrier, and then another.  Now I have ONE attempt left before it will "hardlock".  What can I do about this?  I just bought this phone today, I really don't want to hardlock my own device.  I do however need it unlocked, but I'm so unsure how to go about this now, one more failed unlocking attempt and this phone is pretty useless to me, and that's NOT what I want.
    What are my options?

You can obtain the unlock code from Rogers directly for CDN 50 with only one condition, your phone must be registered to you for a period of 3 months, it may not be requirement if you bought the phone outright. If you have purchased unlock code(s) from a third party and none worked, especially if they are all the same, don't be surprised when you find the one Rogers provide is the same - it happened to me twice (yep two different Z10s from Rogers, the first was not unlockable using the code and I was offered a new one). There certainly is a problem with the database of unlock codes, I read somewhere that its a common issue. I am the proud owner of a Rogers Z10 which Rogers can't unlock.Since I have been traveling for a few months now, I placed a hold on the situation until I return to Toronto and write to the Ombudsman, as customer service adds agony and despair to a situation that already has plenty of both.  Good luck...

  • A few days into having the Z10- MY pros/cons/thoughts/concerns/praises/etc....

*Let me preface this by saying I just want to lay it all out on the table- you may take it with a grain of salt, or feel free to comment!*
I have been a very loyal blackberry customer since 2007- I've had their curves, bolds, and torches, and I currently own the Torch 9810. Blackberry has been a fantastic company, and I've always loved owning a blackberry. I was EXTREMELY excited when I found out that they were releasing a new operating system as well as two phones, so, on the 22nd, when AT&T released the Z10, I went and bought it outright so that I could play around with the OS. Man on man, can I say how brilliant Blackberry has done with their new line of phones. The Z10 is sleek, sexy, quick, and unlike anything out there. I played around with it for quite some time, and the following are things that I've thought about it:
    Good things/good features/wow effect:
    - huge, bright, and wonderful screen
    - quick interface and smooth OS
    - loved being able to access the camera without having to go into the phone
    - THE CAMERA!! WOW As all BB users can tell you, it is 100fold better; it's quick, it takes crisp and clear pictures, and comes with image enhancements, it's easy to use, and there are so many options within the camera application.
    - I was able to transfer my texts, calender, contacts, and memos from OS7 to OS10
    - I love being able to see my calender events on the 'lock screen'
    - the HUB is quite a cool feature that consolidates many things
    - call quality is great!
    - the virtual keyboard is the best out there
    - the 'sleep mode' screen is really awesome- the one that shows the clock, and alarm settings
    - cool little features like when you want to power off the phone, and it prompts you to hold down the power button for 3 seconds
    - NOT HAVING TO DO A BAT PULL EVERY TIME YOU DOWNLOADED A NEW APP!
    - being able to folder up items on the home screen
    - media sharing!!! connecting to a TV or PC or other DLNA supported devices
*this list isn't a fully extensive list, but these are the things I could think of right away*
    Concerns/not so good things/problems/things I actually miss from OS7:
    - Physical keyboard (YES, I know- the Q10 will be coming out soon... anyone know an official AT&T date???)
    - back button and trackball/pad (that was blackberry classic!!)
    - being able to determine how long the vibrate for text/bbm/emails/phone calls/etc
    - APPS, APPS, APPS.... I just don't understand why so many apps from OS7 aren't there!! (BBuzz, Skype, Point, Shazam, Google Maps [not the blackberry version, but the regular google maps], and BBVA Compass Bank mobile banking were the ones that I HAD, but no longer would have on the Z10) <-- when developers ask what apps people want, well... simple.. GO LOOK AT WHAT iPhone IS DOING!
    - facebook SUCKS on the new OS, and, well, it sucked on OS7 too, which is why I only used the 'mobile site'... now the BB10 mobile site sucks!! :/// I've only been able to check facebook from my computer except when I get updates!
    - ACTIVE FRAMES!! WTF is that??? I had to purchase an LED/vibrate notifications app, but it only works if it's running in the active frames........ hate that... with a passion
    - phone contacts and facebook contacts are merged and i hate that too!!! Ive tried all different ways to no avail to get that option off
    - text messages, BBM, contacts, and 'reminders' lag
    - the HUB and having everything consolidated... not a fan of that at all. I want email with email, texts with texts, and facebook with facebook. Maybe I'm paranoid, but consolidation scares me
    - battery life is NOT very good, even though they tout the battery being the biggest yet
    - I miss the way photos were categorized with BB7, and the whole media application was better on 7
    - what happened to voice notes and voice notes recorder??
    - I wish the 'memo pad' was back instead of it being called 'reminders' on BB10
    - I feel like BB7 was just easier to use then BB10
    - gestures, albeit being an awesome feature, is really hard to get used to. I want the back button and trackpad back!! made life SO much easier
*this too isn't a fully extensive list, BUT, because of most of these things, I am returning the Z10 tomorrow.*
I wish Blackberry would contact me and talk with me about the good/bad/neg/pos things about the new Z10!! There are some amazing updates and features, but I feel BB may have overreached a bit on a few things.
Phew! I just needed to vent and get all of that out there.
Let me end by saying that Blackberry has surly come around and made a dramatic turn around in the way they build phones. The phone itself is amazing, and there are great things about it. Unfortunately, MY cons have outweighed the pros right now- I just hope things get even better. BLACKBERRY- CONTACT ME AND TALK WITH ME....
Until next time, I hope you BBers have a fantastic week!!

  • Z10 issue forwarding emails with large attachments

I am having an issue with my Z10 on Rogers running 10.0.10.85 version of the o/s using Exchange/ActiveSync.
I am unable to forward emails with attachments greater than about 300kb from my Z10, The emails just stay stuck in the inbox with the "sending" logo and they never send.
I really need to resolve this and our IT team is stumped? Has anyone else seen this? Any resolution?

Send this to your IT team and see if it helps. Within 3 minutes of making the changes all was fixed, that is of course if it's the same issue.

  • Z10 without BIS just a kind of pale iPhone copy

I'ma  faithful blackberry customer almost for decade now and I had in mind to switch from my 9860 to Z10. I purchased it from my carier, ORANGE and got it last monday. I had already changed from old to new blackberry several time and I was prapared to it with Z10, not that way!
After having trasfered data from my 9860 to Z10 and connecting it to network I was waiting for the BBY registration message and the Services directories, but I'll keep on waiting if the customer support hadn't told me (after having placed 15 calls and spent hours) "Z10 doesn't use BIS anymore" ... Thus NO MORE push mail, no more filters set up on BIS end, no more auto CCI when sending messages from the Z10, no more Blackberry email management success at all!
You just have to set up each and every email address teh way you did on other device email client:
Using GMAIL you should know if you connect to you Gmail account using any email client you should use the recent:[email protected] to get new messages even they already had been downloaded by other client. NO WAY to set up a gmail email address in Z10 using ":" you get this message error "IMAP server is not available yet, try again latter" !!
If you try to connect to server using plain text authen. it doesn't work either.
I've sent back Z10 to my carrier: without BIS Z10 is just a new smartphone maybe not worst than i5 or S4 (I'm not a Apple oy Samsung addict) and certainely not better.
WHY don't you let your customers decide if they want to keep using BIS or straight connect using POP3 or IMAP?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    DIDFOR wrote:

    To add to the above...
While an answer is now moot for you (since you returned your Z10), nevertheless...it is a shame you didn't give it more time. Had you done so, you may have come across the "Advanced" email configuration screens, on which you can indeed select POP, IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV, EAS, and several others. Using the wizard requires the server to provide back to the device the proper settings...using the Advanced settings allows the user control over how a specific account is configured to their Z10 (within the limits of what the server supports, of course).
As for PUSH...there certainly is that! But, of course, only for server environments that support it. But, to compare, even under BIS, PUSH was (for non-PUSH supporting email servers) only truly from the perspective of the BB...BIS was polling the server at a 15 minute interval, and then pushing to the device things that arrived on the server. BIS would shorten that interval whenever it found something, but during periods of inactivity, BIS was polling every 15 minutes...which is exactly what ActiveSync does for non-PUSH enabled servers. So it is relatively the same as before.
As for the message ("IMAP server is not yet available..."), that normally happens when you have not, inside of GMail itself, activated IMAP. The user has control over what is faced to email clients (POP, IMAP, or both)...at least for non-paid accounts, I am not sure if it's different for paid GMail accounts (e.g., your own domain, hosted within GMail)...but, I do know that paid accounts have support available from Google...but it would appear that you did not try that either.
As for BIS...that's gone for BB10, replaced by on-device ActiveSync. We can debate forever "why" they may have chosen to do so, but that debate is moot...for it is what it is.
Good luck with whatever other platform you decide upon!

  • MMS - invisible mmsc settings

    Hi,
is there any procedure how to unlock invisible mmsc setting on Z10? I bought unlocked Z10, using provider O2 Czech Republic, every services work fine except mms (unable to sent/receive). When I go: Text message/Options/Text messages/MMS/Advanced - I can see only this setting:
SMS (Allow Special Characters, Service Center Address, Routing Preference, Send Text..., Retries)
APN Settings - this is visible but locked (APN = mms, Username=null, Password= null)
    MMSC - unvisible!!??
Any idea how to unlock it?

I gave up in the end after 6 weeks of constantly trying. I wrote to Vodafone CEO office and had a reply very quickly. They agreed to me returning the Z10 and re-instating my contract to before my last upgrade which has allowed me to choose a different phone.
Shame really as the Z10 is a beautiful phone

  • New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

Most every business is using MS Outlook for their email. I cannot understand for the likes of this, why the Z10 Link software does not offer this very important feature???
When out on the road we take notes and make new email entries. When we get back to the office, it is critical that we have an easy way to get the phone synced up to our email system on the computers. Having to take the time to manually type in the new information in to Outlook is another loss of valuable time when we are rushed to get things done.
I know of a fair number of business associates and also clients who are putting off getting the Z10 because they need this feature. They are doing many emails and taking many notes during their mobile activities. When they get back to the office, it is a quick process to sync their present BB phone with Outlook and get their work done.
I cannot understand who would think of leaving out such an important feature!
I remember when the Playbook came out there was no built in email client or spell corrector. It was bug riddled in many aspects on top of this. Because of this RIM lost out on big potential sales. The early versions of the Playbook were useless to non Blackberry users, because the only practical way to get email done was with using the Bridge mode.
Now they came out with a top qualtiy high tech business phone, and there is no local email sync capability to one of the world's most popular email programs. This is like throwing a crowbar in to the works!  Also having sync capability to Thunderbird is another big plus to have done.
    Jerry G.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Last evening I spent about 2 hours cleaning up my 1500 contacts in Microsoft Outlook 2010, ensuring, numbers were inputed correctly, deleting older contacts, adding new ones.  Making sure my calendar was updated, and also my notes.  I was preparing for my Z10 that I picked up this morning.
Perhaps it was an oversight on my part, perhaps I assumed that since Blackberry Desktop has synced my desktop Outlook for the past 10 years that it'd be no different with the Z10.
    Was I ever wrong.
I thought I downloaded the wrong software  with the BB10 Link, but I looked again, and I looked everywhere in the softawre.  I was nearly going out of my mind until I did a few google search, and there are literally hundreds of posts in the last few weeks regarding this no sync issue.  I guess I wasn't the only one who found out the hard way.
I love the device, it's quite awesome.  The internet is fast.  It's well designed.  I'm not crazy about how the new BBM works since I like seeing all the BBM contacts in a window rather than only seeing them in contacts or when I click on create new message.  But I could live with all of that.
I am not about to export my contacts into a CVS file, then upload them to my GMail account and then have it synced with my new Blackberry.
There are millions of users who use the desktop software to sync.  I agree with the OP, how could this be that big of an over sight for users at RIM?
At the end of the day, I switched back to my BOLD 9900 and have returned the Z10.  Despite every great aspect of it, the syncing option was definitely a make it or break it for me to use the new phone.  I already carry an iPhone around as my multimedia phone, so not having all that extra jazz on my Bold sucked, but at least it worked as my primary phone for business.
This seriously a collossal over sight - Blackberry - Please fix it!

  • Blackberry is popular in Iran despite sanctions-a great market for blackberry

Iran is considered the largest market for cellular phones in the middle east [guardian].
Blackberry z10 sales have started since February in the world. There is no official Blackberry store in Iran, but market demand has made importers bypass restrictions to bring Blackberry z10 products into the country 48 hours after the canada!!!
Because of recent sanctions by usa, the price of dollors became triple since last year and Iranians have to pay more money to buy a smart phone. salary of an engineer in iran become $250 per month !! (I used this example to let you know about the situation). So number of selling smart phones reduced %50 and unfortunately Apple and Blackberry lost a huge market in middle east.Three another companies (samsung,LG and sony) still remain in iran and by financial supporting of iran's government and good relationship with japan and s-korea they have good market.
In middle of February the price of z10 was more than $1500 in iran (equal to 6 months salary of an engineer in iran!!) but fortunetly the price have decreased continuously since march. The BB z10 is selling about $600 in market now. However, I belived that most of them are refurbished and is sold to us as new one!!
There is a great potential for selling Blackberry in iran. About %40 of iranians are under 30 years old (about 30 million people) and most of them so interested in loyal and American smart phones such as iphone.
After coming BB z10 to iran, many people prefer to use it to iphone. a lot of stores started to sell BB z10 and many seller said iphone placement will replaced by BB z10. but after 1 month many customers returning their Z10s and they wanted to sell it with cheaper price. They said all services was blocked in iran. it was not possible to update BB OS, you can't to buy applicaions from app store, you can't to use BB email,BBM ,.... . Many buyer complained that the GPRS is deactive by BB and wifi disconnected continual by BB sever. so the BB services that you can use iran is equal to Nokia 1100.
Itunes and google play also have been closed their services to iranians. However, a lot of way exists to use their service . For example by changing IP, using VPN or rooting ( or jailbreaking) mobile phones you can access ti itunes. so BB will lost a great market in the world. I read a news about returning BB z10 in usa. If BB had official service and store in iran (similar to samsung,LG,sony), they would sold more than 1 million smart phone in iran.
The focus of the sanctions has been on Iran's banks and oil industry, Iranian individuals and companies that Western capitals believe are assisting what they suspect is Tehran's drive towards a nuclear weapons capability. However I belived that eventhough sanctions made a lot of problem for iranians in iran, a lot of problem also has been made for western companies such as BB which interest to be iran market.
at the end I have some suggestion for BB company, If they want to sell their mobile phones in iran:
    1. please let iranians install application from app world and let get updates (do not fear!! no body use them for nuclear prog ram )
    2. please add persian keyboard to your os (you can add 5 letter to arabic keyboard to convert it to persian, it is not difficult).
    3. please add the name of iran to your country lists and let us to register in your website.
    4. find a local distributor in iran and import your device legal. government give importer companies dollar with cheaper price, so company can sell smartphones with lower price in iran.
    Mohammad

    I think, i success.
App store of blackberry, Google, Apple will open to Iranians soon. USA omitted mobile phone sanctions two days ago. Also, North american companies could open local distributor in iran:

  • Slow Boot with errors in kernal file - Can someone help tell me what these are?

I've been getting increasingly frustrated with the startup time on my MBP. I have copied the startup log from the kernal and highligted the few things that I am questioning why they are getting errors and hanging.. Some of these may be normal but some dont seem like it...
Im looking to see if someone can look at this log and let me know what these few things are? And maybe how to fix them?
Ideally I would love for someone to just look at it and be like "Oh, thats your problem..." I'm just not familiar enough to be able to do that....
Also, I am new to the "Apple Community" so I'm not sure the best way to deliver the information that I have, such as the log text and system specs that may be useful.. So if I just need to post the log that I copied in here, let me know..
    Thanks.

Here is a copy of the log file... The things in red are what make me (a person who knows nothing) curios...  Some are warnings and errors, and some I highligted just because of the time they slow things down.. Im just curious what they are and can/should they be fixed somehow?
    Thanks!

  • BlackBerry Link and syncing Contacts, Calendar and Tasks with stand-alone desktop installation of Outlook 2010?

I have used Blackberries in business since the beginning. Fantastic products!
Sadly after spending the better part of Feb 6th transitioning from Torch to Z10 I have had to abandon the effort and request an RMA number to return the Z10.
    Here is why:
"Link" appears to be focussed on syncing documents and media like content such as music and movies but does not, from what I can tell, sync Outlook Contacts, Calendar entries or Tasks. I have never bothered putting music or movies on a BB... never had the time to fuss with such... however, I use, edit and sync my Contacts, Calendar and Tasks between my Torch and my desktop PC every day... as in EVERY day!
From a review of postings on various forums there does not appear to be a solution in the works to this problem and the trend appears to be to use a Cloud based email or service to host such "PIM" information and then sync the handheld to the Cloud repository. This method MAY be suitable for some forms of info but it is not suitable to post such personal info on the cloud... it needs to stay on the desktop and in the handheld device, both of which are password protected and looked after carefully.
This is an odd situation, BB (RIM) cut their teeth on pages, emails, BBM and great cell calls, mainly in a business environment. Many small business users live and die on their BB. They do not run Exchange Server... they run Outlook stand alone on a desktop. To remove this functionality from the Z10 (BB10 overall perhaps) seems at best to be a serious oversight.
I wish BB the best with the Z10 and hope to see it do well. For me, I had to make a choice between the efficiency and effectiveness of syncing Outlook Contacts, Calendar and Tasks with the Torch, or hand feeding and maintaining thousands of constantly changing entries into what is undoubtedly a more powerful and wonderful looking Z10. Efficiency and effectiveness won over brawn and beauty. The Torch is back on line... It's a tool... a really great tool! Tomorrow it will process a hundred emails,  numerous SMS messages, a few BBM's, keep me on time and feed me a bunch of useful phone numbers and addresses as it has for a couple of years now. It will also spend an hour or so teathered to my laptop at a remote location where there is cell coverage but no internet. It will NOT display any movies, tweats, twits, or facebook stuff that I won't have time to look at anyway. The fast, powerful, shiny Z10 is heading in an RMA bag back to Telus.
I have a sort of sick feeling in my gut and hope to be able to sync again in the future!

my feelings and my situation excatly

  • Outlook synchronisation: what smart-alec developer decided USB cables were old hat?

I've been trawling the internet/this forum to see if BlackBerry have condescended to come up with a way of allowing those of us who want to synchronise Outlook Contacts/Calendars with a Z10 to do so (as I've been doing with my boss's BlackBerries over the past few years).
Unless I've missed a new development over the past few days, short of moving a load of sensitive data into the cloud, it just doesn't seem to be possible.
Nor does it seem to be possible to contact BlackBerry direct about this: couldn't find a phone number or a support email address. The only method they seem to deign to communicate through is Twitter, which I have no intention of signing up to.
The only people I could speak to about the issue was Vodafone, whose impression was that BlackBerry aren't going to bother to come up with a solution as wires and cables are old hat.
We are currently considering whether or not to return the Z10. Certainly, any good feeling I might have had towards BlackBerry has totally dissipated.

Blackberry announced that it will incorporate outlook USB sync with BB link.

  • Need to define multiple smtp servers for all accounts (1 for WIFI and MOBILE network)

Hi.   I just bought a BB10 and so far, loving it.   My phone service provider is Telus but I do not use their email.   So when I am on the Telus network, my smtp server setting needs to be smtp.telus.net and when I am on WIFI, I need to point to smtp.cogeco.ca.   Home can I set this up?

If I would have know this I would have bought an iPhone instead.  Actually, I will return the Z10 Monday and get the iPhone 5.   Enough is enough.

  • Outlook synch usb

    Hi,
I know this has been spoken about before but still suffering without an answer.
When will we have synch ability for BlackBerry 10 for outlook?
I actually cannot function with a calendar that is out of date. I cannot use outlook com as when I set up a meeting on my phone that I want to synch it goes to client from outlook com instead of work address. Sonia now have to set up meeting through outlook for synch and then again through local calendar for client (so email goes from work address.). Maintaining this is a real issue when meetings change.
I love this device but it is proving to be cumbersome. I also by law am not allowed to cloud contacts, tasks and calendars.
Please please help as this is a real issue.
When will link support synch from outlook??? Just give us a date so I can go back to my Samsung until it is resolved or DONT give us a date and I will just return the z10 and go to Samsung s4.
If the developers are not fully focused on this issue then they really have priority issues.

The Outlook to usb sync is announced and I have not heard a date yet, but soon i hope, but maybe BB advisor can respond with a date. If not mistaken no android device including Samsung S3 & 4 without 3rd party app like De Ja office & Companion link has the capabiites of USB sync. You can use a 3rd party app in the meantime as all other android users around the world are using to sync with outlook without cloud or outlook.com.
    http://www.companionlink.com/
    http://www.dejaoffice.com/
A temporary solution is also forward your calendars and contacts from your desktop outlook to your z10 device as an email or put on sd card . This will update your contact and your calendars.  I phone 5 has outlook sync with USB with Itunes app, but on a limited bases.  The rest all use cloud services.

  • Time machine deleting backups unnecessarily

My imac is backed up via TM to a locally connected USB disk; it's 2tb in size and has 1.22tb available.
Recently I restored some files from an october backup and have just tried to locate other files backed up at the same time. But Time machine is showing my oldest backups as originating in mid-November. Why has it deleted earlier backups when there is so much space available - I'm only backing up one hd to this set and it only contains 879gb of data? Can I find them or are they gone forever? is there some setting somewhere that is limiting my backups to only one month?

    Thanks Linc
Here is the log from the last TM backup to the first, with roughly 9 hours shutdown.
I don't know if there is anything relevan there - analysing (or even understanding) this is not an expertise that I have. if you can make anything of it I'd be garteful. Don't worry if you'd rather pass - its water under the bridge anyway but I'd just like to know what happened.
I've started another backup using retrospect. It served me well for twenty years before ™ appeared, but it's by no means as straightforward but you're right, I should have two backups.
