Reverb

I´m a professional lute player and do a little recording. I use a tascam interface (US-122L) and two Neumann microphones, and then ... good intruments and old churches. I use GB for recording and cutting. Now I do need a little extra reverb once in a while - the GB reverb is not really satisfying. What software would I use? Logic express seems to be an instrument by itself, not a digital tape recorder.
I would really appreciate help, hope I´m not in the wrong forum ...
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iLife05, iWork06

AudioUnit is a plugin standard developped by Apple.
When you to the details of a real instrument tracks,
there's two pop-menus for additionnal FXs. Click on
it and below GarageBand Effects, there's AudioUnit
effects. Select AU Matrix Reverb.
I found it. Interesting ... I´ll give it a try. Still, I guess I feel most comfortable with a good ol´church and original reverb. Thanks to you all!

  • HP ENVY 6 Speakers Sound Bad (REVERB)

    Hi everyone,
I've bought my HP ENVY Ultrabook 6-1111TX laptop a couple of days ago.
I really do love this laptop except for the speakers. (Which I'm guessing should sound better than average because of the whole Beats Audio thingy.)
Ever since i turned it on, i've noticed that the sound from the speakers comes out with a LOT of reverb. It seems as though the speakers just arent capable of handling the simple windows BEEP sound without buzzing. (The default Sound Test sounds good however?)
At first i thought this might be a driver issue, so i updated everything to the latest drivers (IDT 6.10.6433.0) but this didnt help at all. Then i tried unistalling the IDT driver compleately. The default Windows8 sound driver makes the speakers sound pretty quiet but it didnt make any buzzing at all. I reinstalled the IDT drivers - buzzing again. Then I got the idea that it might be the  beats audio settings, If i turn off beats audio the buzzing stops (as far as i can tell) but the background noise is still there. Then I tried different settings in the equalizer. After a while I got it to sound less iritating but still I realized that it's not really helping that much.
I finally gave up and came here for help.
These are the default settings with which the speakers sound.. well... bad...
(Speaker Tone Controls on Bass 4 / Treble 4)
    My audio drivers:
    BiOS: F.23
    Other things i tried:
Turning HP Coolsense On/Off - no difference
AC Power/Battery Power - no difference
Pluging in My External Speakers (Creative 2.1) - seems like it sounds good.. no buzzing/crackling/reverb or anything?
    Soooo, any suggestions please?

    Hello Šlapias,
You’re having a problem with your speakers making a buzzing sound.
What is the product number of your laptop?
If you are able to connect external speakers to the laptop, it could be that the internal speakers are bad.
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • How do i use a Aux channel with reverb from two different patches

I have a Concert with an Aux channel strip for Reverb and i want two seperate patches to both use Send 1 with different amounts/level of reverb but when i move the fader on the patch and then go to the other patch the fader has moved back to the down position
    Hope this makes sense
P.S i know i can do it with two separate buses but want to keep it tidy
    Thanks

1: select an instrument channel, go the parameter of the channel then change the midi channel to "ALL"
2: insert the Multitimbral sampler of your choice ( RMX, hypersonic or what ever) and load the sounds you want onto them
3: open environment, in the environment parameter it shows AUDIO click hold it and select ALL OBJECT, then go to view and untick "BY TEXT"
4: connect the GM DEVICE to the channel that has the Multitimbral Sampler on it'll ask Do you want to remove the channels port setting? click remove
    thats it
Now go to the arrange window and you can use all the 16 midi channels to control one Multitimbral Sampler
that means midi channel 1 will control what ever sound is loaded in the first slot on the Multitimbral Sampler
lemme know if there was a mistake along the line, i'm a bit tired gotta help out

  • IPhone 4 - iPod app plays music/podcasts with reverb - How do I make it stop?

    Hello!
Recently, when I play music or podcasts from my iPhone 4, whether into headphones, from the phone itself, or connected to speakers, it plays it with a sort of echo or reverb.
It does not do this when I am on speaker phone.
I can't think of what could be causing this, but I use my iPod often, especially in my car on the long drive to and from work.
It's kind of creepy sometimes, depending on what's playing, not to mention, just annoying that it's happening in the first place.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this, and how it can be fixed?

    CORRECTION:
After Apple gave me a new phone, it worked fine for a while, then the problem started again once I plugged it into the Aux input in my car.  I unplugged it, and tested the phone by itself, still did it.  But only on podcasts.
My husband did some more research and corrected the problem.  Here's what was happening:
When you play podcasts, and you're in the "now playing" screen that's a translucent black, shows volume, where you're at in the podcast, etc.  In the upper right corner of this screen, there is a little white box that says "1x".  Touching this box will allow you to change the speed of the podcast (I guess some people are such avid podcast listeners, that it saves them time to listen to it faster).  I had coincidentally and unknowingly changed the speed of the podcast to "1.1x" which just made it sound funny, not faster.
He changed it back to "1x", and everything is now hunky dory!  But thanks for the new phone, Apple!  Just wanted to clear that up.  Sorry for the confusion.

  • How do I set up a mixer with a reverb bus and send to it?

I'm just starting with STP so forgive me if this is a stupid question, okay?
I'm using Soundtrack Pro exclusively for multitrack audio. I will typically have 8 audio tracks I import into STP, each of which has its own channel strip in the mixer. I have set up a separate buss for Reverb so that each track can access the same reverb setting. Usually there is a rotary dial on each channel strip so you can send, for example, a little bit of drums to reverb, a tiny bit of bass, and a lot of background vocal to the reverb. All I seem to be able to do in STP, though, is to assign a given audio channel strip to the Reverb channel strip, with no control over how much of the audio I send to the buss.
Since this is a standard feature of any mixer, I'm assuming that STP's mixer can do it, but I just don't know how to implement it. Anybody know?
Also, what goes to the reverb buss is PRE-FADER. So, if I pull down the fader from a track, the full signal from that track continues to go to the reverb buss. How would I set this to POST-FADER?
Thanks --and I apologize if these are dumb questions. I'm fully prepared to say, "DOH!" when somebody tells me the answers!
    --monadyne

    Hi Monadyne,
Sounds like you want to use sends and busses. Per your example, here's what you'd do:
    1. You can create a bus (Multitrack->Add Bus)
    2. Add the reverb as an effect on the bus (e.g. click on the effects "*" on Bus 1 that you just created and add a reverb)
    3. On any individual track, you can add a send (click on the effects "*" in the track header, then click on the [Add Send] button at the bottom of the Effects tab).
If you click on the the reveal traingle for the send (in the effects tab), then you can set the send level and select pre/post fader.
    I hope that helps.

  • I am having trouble using reverb of any kind; it does not sound natural, but rather "pixilated." Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I have used Silververb and Space Designer and am having the same problem...

I am using Logic Pro 9 with two MXL 990 microphones in my piano and a Rode NT1A for vocals. I have tried recording with added reverb and keeping getting not a natural reverb sound, but a rather "pixilated" one that does not sound natural. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? I have tried using Silververb and Space Designer, and both result in the same problems. Thank you!

This is asking for the impossible! It does not sound natural because maybe it isn't and in judging so whats your reference anyway. If you are in dire need of some natural sounding room you can go and record it yourself. But even then, the chances that it sounds like you imagined it, are very slim.
There are very decent sounding reverberation plugins, based on artificial reverb generators or convolution-style, the last one is said to sound more 'natural' then the first one. Be it as it maybe, it really is like cooking food. You got all the ingredients for this delicious taste at hand and believe it or not to reach a satisfying result this is not enough, because if you do not mix the ingredients in the right proportion you will end up with a different dish you thought you'll get. This is exactly the same when one would mix audio, I dare say.
So treat yourself to some good ingredients and the rest is up to you, namely: taste and experience!
And looking at some of my past music productions I always find the same plugins for the 'ambient' task:
Altiverb by Audio Ease when I have acoustic ensembles (classical music mostly), the Sony Oxford Reverb in studio productions, Bricasti when I have to deal with drums and MMultiBandReverb from MeldaProduction for all-round stuff. Thats the base I start from, after that I can end up with dozen Reverb plugins which basically all are doing the same thing but just in a tiny different way.

  • Is it possible to add reverb to vocal mic, without affecting my keyboard sound?

    Hello,
I am trying to record my vocals and piano simultaneously. I'm using the MBox 2, with Adobe Audition 3.0. Whenever I add reverb to my vocal track (via the fx tab under my vocal track in multi track view), it affects the way my piano sounds while I am recording (it creates a delay on the sound of the keyboard while I am playing...almost like a 'bouncing note' delay). I really want to be able to hear some reverb on my voice while recording, but I cannot seem to figure out how to do it. This is how I have everything set up:
Piano is plugged in via DI on input 2 on the back of the mbox
vocal mic is plugged in via cannon on input 1 on back of mbox
If anybody could help, that would be wonderful. I've spent hours trying to figure this out with no luck. It is a lot more fun to record your singing with a bit of the pretty reverb....but my piano doesn't agree.
    Thank you
    Best,
    Jenny Jo

    Hello Brian,
Thanks for your help again. I have spent the last 6 hours running into nothing but problems. I tried your advice about recording mono in both separate tracks, and still no luck. I was using a condenser mic, and a keyboard. Both using mono, and I was using the studio reverb. I finally decided to try something simpler, just so I could at least feel a bit satisfied in getting a recording in. I set the condenser mic near my keyboard and speakers, and plugged my keyboard into the speakers. I armed the one mic track for record for phantom power, applied studio reverb, and set up the correct settings for the track by going into Audio Hardware Setup and selecting 'Asio Digidesign Driver' as the audio driver for everything. I simply wanted to play my piano, which would sound through the monitors next to me, and sing into the microphone..which would pick up my vocals with the piano in the background. The only way I could hear reverb on my voice during the recording, was by adjusting the 'mix' knob on the front of the mbox. It seemed to be working okay, and I thought I had found at least a compromise for the moment. But after saving the files, and upon listening to them...I noticed drops and rises/glitches/ in the recording volume. I then did a bunch of tests. I recorded some without any reverb assigned at all, did some recordings with the mix knob up and some with it off...I tried everything I could think of. I saved each one as a wav file, and MP3, just to see if that would affect the sound. Listening to them, they all have those same sound glitches. While doing the recordings, the sound disturbances weren't audible.
I am wondering if there is a setting that I need to fix...I am not the most savvy technical person, and am rather new to recording. Maybe the buffer size needs to be adjusted? I really have no idea...it is frustrating. I should say that I am using an MBox 2, which is supposed to be used with Pro Tools software. I had problems using Pro Tools as well, I don't think my OS is very compatible with it. Unfortunately, I have windows Vista, which I hear nothing but problems about in regards to recording. I prefer to use Adobe Audition, as I'm familiar with it, and like it.
Well, I hope this email hasn't put you to sleep. I really hope I can get this figured out, as I'm keen to record.
    Thank you again..
    Best,
    Jenny Jo

Subject: Is it possible to add reverb to vocal mic, without affecting my keyboard sound?
Out of some disbelief I had to try my own setup suggestion from above, since it's not a thing I do daily anymore. Without wanting to go into any dispute with the above poster, I can only say:
    It works well here.
    Your mileage may vary.
Setting up two mono tracks with a separate input to each, I was able to record vocals with reverb from Audition in my monitoring headphones, along with recording an electro-acoustic instrument (guitar in my case) on the adjacent track with no reverb at all. I sang/tested with lots of consonants and different monitor levels and reverbs; I used the Studio Reverb, which is the least CPU intensive and recommended in the manual. There was no noticable delay, echo, what have you, which I felt disturbed my precision at all. Now I KNOW technically there is a delay/latency, but for practical purposes it isn't noticable. I've also heard some singers are extremely pecky on this, and for them there is the solution of direct monitoring and an outboard reverb added to their headphone signal. For everyone else however it works well and the latency just a theory - certainly not an audible 'echo' of any kind. With a poor soundcard and a computer low on resources latency will become evident. Also if you don't use ASIO. This type of application is why we have ASIO.

  • Audio tracks only playing the reverb portion

I'm having an issue with recorded audio tracks not getting played through the output properly. The only audio that I hear is related to the reverb effect on the track. I have been working on this project for a few days and it just started happening this morning. Everything was working fine before I saved it last night.
Example - I have a vocal track. I see via the track mixer the audio is playing but I barely hear any sound. I just hear reverb. If I turn the reverb plugin off (Im using the default GB reverb), I don't hear any audio. It's as if there is a hidden "send" track for the reverb, and the audio track is getting routed to the send track, but not the master track. That's why I only hear the reverb. Since the GB interface is so simple, I don't see a way to edit this or even check it. It's just my guess based on using other DAWs.
If I create a brand new track and drag the audio from "the bad track" - the audio plays. I have to re-add all the plugins I was using to the new track, which is annoying, but at least I have a workaround. I just don't understand how this happened. I seriously did nothing in between the time it worked and it stopped. Last night, everything was good. I hit save and closed. Then this morning I woke up to resume my work, and nothing was playing.
If anyone has a solution for this, please let me know. Mixing is already a time consuming process. I don't need to add more time to the process.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Chris
    I'm using Garageband 08 - Version 4.1.2

Since this was pointed out, I've left the "ducking" section as viewable. I just noticed that when I dragged a new .aif file into a new track, it triggered all of the other tracks ducking to be enabled - upwards. The yellow arrow. The new track was ducked under, downwards, or blue arrow.
I'll continue to keep an eye on it for any other patterns.

  • Mastering Plug-In and Reverb?

I'm getting down to the last few steps of my mix and now I want to experiment with adding a touch of reverb.
I'm using a plug-in called "Mastering-Mild" that ships default. It seems to give me that finishing touch more than any other Mastering pre-set, including the advance features where you can control individual settings. However, being that the one I'm using is just the "Standard" plug-in, I only have an amount slider and I can't see what effect it's having on the VO (as in what elements it's adding).
Can anyone confirm that any time I'm adding a Mastering plug-in of any kind with Adobe (Standard or Advanced), that it is infact adding a tinge of Reverb as well? I've been adding Convolution Reverb AFTER my Mastering step, but I'm starting to think this is redundant if I'm already adding it during the Mastering phase. Also, I don't want to be adding Reverb to my VO twice.
    Can anyone confirm this?
    Thnx!

But the reason I'm adding reverb is that I've been told it can help bring the voice out over the audio track where it can other wise be lost in spots (because of the similarities in the frequencies).
    Is this inaccurate?
Completely inaccurate, yes. Whoever told you that clearly hasn't the faintest idea of how to lay over a VO properly, nor appreciated the horrible mess this would cause. If anything, completely the reverse is true!
The idea is that when the VO is talking, the music track ducks in the background - by anything up to about -12dB, depending on a number of factors, including the type of music and the intended age range of the listener. It's normal to duck the music further for program material intended for adults rather than kids. If you do this properly, the chances are that a) the VO will be heard at the appropriate time, and b) that the music won't get in the way of it at all. Adding reverb to the VO is, if anything, going to make it blend in better with the music track (which probably has reverb on it already), because it will sound more like it. What you want is a VO that's clearly distinguishable from the music, not the other way around. So that's music generally with its own reverb, and voice absolutely dry.
Mind you, the addition of background music to video is generally done pretty badly. Basically it shouldn't be there at all unless it is adding something specific to the track. It should be an additional signifier, really, and as such needs to be emotionally compatible with what you can see, or what the director wants you to feel. So you want to select your music carefully, and place it appropriately. And if you can't find anything appropriate - then don't use any at all. There is no absolute requirement in any programme for inappropriate sound; quite the contrary, in fact.
Just in case you were wondering, I did VO recording and dubbing professionally for over 20 years until I got fed up with it, and went back to pure classical recording.

  • I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but can't it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

  • How do I create Gated Reverb on a snare?

I have a snare. Made an Aux send. On the aux channel i put a reverb (wet signal 100%) then right under the snare i put a gater (threshold all the way up) i can here the reverb when i adjust the gate "hold" parameter. Is this the proper way to do it? I didn't side chain anything and for some reason i think i should be?

Also, use a sh*tty-sounding reverb like the AVerb.
One of S.D.'s bigger halls can work well too, especially EQ'ing it so it's thinner.
    @RafMaravilla
Try experimenting with the attack/release to get different effects. A faster attack and slower-to-medium release can get you an effect which can sound like the reverb is being swallowed by the snare, once you've juggled these settings with predelay.

  • How to set the length of the reverb? (GarageBand)

    Hey Guys,
im from germany and im just mixing and recording some songs in my free time with garage band 11.
When im recording my Voice and im using a reverb for it, i just can set the loudness of the reverb. but i want to set the lenght of it, i want to ask you guys how i can do that?
    thanks a lot

Gern geschehen!    Take good care of the old GarageBand '11 and make sure you back up your system as it is now, just in case!
i have another question, its almost the same content how is it about the echo? in the older version, i could easily change the type of the echo, for example in which tact it should be or how much it should be repeated and so on.. oh, I wish it wasstill as easy as before!!!
The Smart Controls will allow you to change some effects on a track, but the available effects will depend on the patch you selected.  Get yourself HangTime's marvellous Effect Finder - this will help you to find out, which patches will have which effects: Download here:  http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/File%20Pages/DownloadsGB.html
For the echo you can also use the automation curve on the track, just like for Reverb.

  • How do I get reverb  to carry on at the end of a clip.

    Dear FCP Community
When applying the reverb filter in FCP, I would like to have the reverberation to continue for a few seconds at the end of the clips normal length. I can't work out how to do it .... is it even possible!
    With thanks, Johnny

You need to have extra material at the end of your clip called "Handles".
Then as soon as the picture section has ended, increase the amount of "Wet" effected mix in relation to the "Dry" unaffected mix.
So lets say your part with picture is 5 seconds long, you need 7 seconds of audio -2 seconds more at the end. From the 5th to 6th second you increase the ratio of wet to dry mix and from the sixth to seventh second, you fade the audio out, letting the next clip take over. Make sense?
The numbers here are just for illustration. Yours may differ.

Ugh. Apple you are getting very frustrating.

  • Some of the audio out of my mac sounds as if there's a reverb effect on top

Mostly on videos, using VLC and quicktime it sounds as though there's a reverb/delay effect on top of the audio.. it's really annoying... haven't noticed it in any DAW's such as Ableton Live/Reason or Logic just in things like itunes,safari,vlc,quicktime.. it's quite strange

the problem persists no matter what i'm using. I've used my monitor pair(m-audio bx5a's), the inbuilt speakers and a pair of headphones...
I believe it has something to do with the inbuilt soundcard as when i attach an external soundcard to the bx5a's there is no reverb..
I just did a test two seconds ago.
Basically, i opened up ableton live (standard DAW) and put a kick drum beat on loop.
The output config was simply 'built in output'.
I first listened back on the monitors via the headphone out... bass drum has reverb on it.. out of nowhere?!
repeated the process with my headphones via the headphone-out .. same tail of reverb.. again out of nowhere.
I then repeated the process with just the inbuilt speakers.. again lots of tail..
Having done all this i attached my numark omni control midi controller which has an inbuilt sound card plugged the monitors into the output of the controller.. bass drum comes out clean as a whistle...
ugh.. hope there isn't some sort of sound card related dilemma..
being a music technology student facing this problem is both embarrassing and frustrating!!! not many people would notice it in the first place!!!
So far i've considered two possible reasons for my dilemma-
    1. There's something wrong with my internal sound card
    2. I've installed some piece of software or changed some setting within some random piece of software that's effected all of the audio out of the inbuilt card...
man alive, it's annoying whatever it is.

  • What ever happened to 3.0 Reverb in Logic ?

Did Logic dump the 3.0 Reverb plug-in in Logic 7 ?
The other older reverb plugins are still in Logic 7, but I don't see the "3.0 Rev" anymore.
    What happened ?
    thank you,
    m

Looks like 3.0 Verb was intentionally removed by either Apple or Emagic.
This doesn't make any sense. It produced some great effects. Apple needs to bring it back.
