Reverse axis

Hi,
I am trying to reverse the order of my 2D plot's y axis (make it decreasing).
I am using Diadem 2012.
I see that in the older versions there was a "mirror.." selection, but in Diadem 2012 I couldn't find it..
Any suggestions?

Hi Koray,
Ah, you're right.  The "Scaling Type" property is either "DateTime" or "Inverted", not both.  You can set it to "Inverted", but then you have to set the "Display format" property of the DateTime channel in the Data Portal to "Numeric" in order for the "Inverted" setting to stick.  Then your axis displays the number of seconds since 0 AD proceeding from top to bottom.  In order to display inverted date time values, you'd need to additionally create a UserCommand that uses the RTT() command and invoke it as an @@ function expression, passing it the CFV variable, in the Numbers Format field of the Y axis.  I can help you do that, but it's not easy or obvious.

  • Reverse axis values in xy chart - is it possible?

    Hi gurus,
It seems like Xcelsius Enterprise SP3 doesn't give the option to reverse the values on my xy chart.
Default, the chart looks like this:
    5 |
    4 |
    3 |
    2 |
    1 | _ _ _ _ _
    --- 1 2 3 4 5
But I want to make it look like this (reversing the y-axis):
    1 |
    2 |
    3 |
    4 |
    5 | _ _ _ _ _
    --- 1 2 3 4 5
I know that line charts can sort the data, but haven't seen this option on the xy chart!
Have any of you managed to get this working?
    Best regards,
    Morten

  • Line of best fit and reverse axis

Hi, How do i do a line of best fit in Numbers? Instead of having a line like do to dot i need it to be smooth, Excel does it but does Numbers?
I also need the bottom axis to start at 10 and go down to 0 and i need the left axis to be on the right! How do i do this?
    thanks a lot

  • 3d plot cursor reversed axis

I recently started investigating the use of 3d plots in LV2010 for presenting data on a project. I need to label a data point and have it's position updated through time. I figured that a cursor would be the easiest way to accomplish this. However, when I inserted the cursor and placed it at the same coordinates as the data point via a properties dialog the cursor was not near the data point at all. The z position seemed fine, but the x and y position were at the opposite corner of the plot. After some frustration I determined that the problem is that I have the x and y axes inverted in the plot. Apparently the cursor doesn't recognize that the axes are inverted and is placed in the plot as if the axes were not inverted.
Now that I know the issue I can accommodate it by calculating a new position for the cursor and get the label to follow the point through time as I want. I just though that I would share my discovery and see if anybody else has seen a similar issue.

    Hi sdfgdfgs,
Thanks for the post.  I haven't seen this before but feedback for issues like this are always appreciated.  Thanks for including how you made your workaround as well.

In WebI, there is an option to reverse the category axis for charts.
Do we have something similar in Design Studio? I have a requirement to reverse the order in which labels are appearing in the chart.
    Please do help.
Thanks in advance for your response,

    Sarah,
You can go to Edit > Initial View and change the sort.
    Would this work for you?

  • Reverse y axis columns

    Hi.
I'm using numbers to create a chart for my website alexa rank. x axis is dates; like september 13 2011. and y axis is site rank in each day. as you know, when rank number is lower its better, so I need to reverse the y axis columns. how can I do this?

Numbers always graphs with values ascending toward the top of the chart, so you'll need to do a minor fiddle on the data to make the graph do otherwise.
Here's an example showing alexa's rank in an imagined list of 10 sites.
Columns C and D contain the same formula, but with one argument changed.
    C: =RANK(B2,B,0)
    D: =RANK(B2,B,1)
Each is filled down its respective column.
The third argument controls the direction of the ranking. The second (in column D) is selected as the set of values to be charted.
In the Chart Inspector, click on Axis, then uncheck "Show Value Labels" in the Value Axis (Y) pop-up menu.
Replace the now missing values with a descending list as shown, typed into a text box. You'll need to use the Text inspector to adjust the space between lines to align the numbers with the grid lines on the chart.

  • Why doesn't the Crop tool allow me to reverse the mouse axis?

    Dearest Adobe,
When using the crop tool every axis is backwards! I know I'm supposed to move the photo, not the crop window, But for me this is not a matter of "correct" or "best practice", some people's brains do not work this way. I have been using lightroom for more than a year, and it still feels absolutely wrong every time. Please please please, I beg you, provide a reverse mouse axis checkbox.
I love Lightroom so much. Please help me...
    With love,
    Cody

The brain is incredibly flexible. But some people are left handed, some people are right handed. Some people have different dominant eyes, legs, arms.. etc. Part of learning a process is how it has been performed in the past, but another large part is the fastest and most reliable synapse. If a process "just feels wrong" that means my brain has already been trained or was wired a certain way to begin with.
The point of design is to create an intuitive interface that not only doesn't interfere, but enhances use of the interface. If I have to re-train my brain to work the way the tool wants me to think, then it is not as successful as it could be!
If you google: "Lightroom crop tool backwards" there are quite a few results with many people asking the same question.
All it needs is a preference item that reversed x and y direction for the crop tool and said: Crop Tool: Reposition the crop window/Reposition the photograph [x] [ ]
I know I'm not the only one!

  • Reverse Y-Axis sequence on Analyzer graph

We would like to report rankings, 1-10 on an analyzer graph. Not a problem, however, we want 1 at the top of the y-axis, and 10 at the bottom (1=best). Is there are way to reverse the sequence of the y-axis...it comes out 10, 9, 8 ..1 top to bottom, and I don't see anywhere to reverse within Analyzer. Thanks!

A solution consists to put a negative sign to the member that is used for ranking, in your Essbase outline (To avoid a problems, you can create and USE for ranking a SHARED MEMBER which will be the negative equivalent of the account member used originaly for ranking). Then, you will able to applicate the ranking using the new negative shared member account and by selecting the BOTTOM 10 members. At last, change the negative sign to positive one in Analyzer Analysis Tools Manager. I Hope that this will help you...Regards

  • Reverse y axis in graph

How do I reverse the plot on a graph without using negative numbers?

    Jerry,
I'm plotting data points, not a function so the Grapher.app isn't much help to me, but thanks for telling me about it (might be useful later). Having the y axis reversed isn't as important to me as having the x and y axis crossing at zero. I don't mind having the downward values as minus (as is normal), but now if I plot it the x and y axis don't cross at zero!! Surely this is a basic feature that should be available?
If possible maybe you could let me know of any other tricks or overrides that might be useful?
    Badunit,
Thanks for your suggestion, I already tried that method, and as I said before my main problem is the x and y axis not crossing at zero (I'm studying engineering so they are very fussy about these details, and personally I'm a bit of a perfectionist), also manually putting in the x axis for 50+ graphs (all with varying scales) is something I'd rather avoid!

  • Change gearing sign (reverse slave axis)

    Hello,
I am building a precision winding machine: the mater motor controls a cylinder and the slave motor movese the head with the wire. The objective is to wind the wire in a 3d helix. I am using a cRIO 9022 with two NI 9512 drivers.
The problem is that I need to be able to change the gearing sign, so that I can do clockwise and counterclockwise helixes but always move the master motor (and the cylinder) in the same direction (the winding machine is built so that the wire should only be pulled in one direction).
I have tried reversing the sign of the numerator in the gearing VI to get the slave motor to move in reverse but this does not seem to work. The only solution I have found is to reverse the motor phase by swapping the A and Abar wires in the 9512 driver.
I can attach a copy of the project if needed.

Looking at the SoftMotion Multi-Axis Gearing example (Function Block or Express VI versions), I do see the numerator with a negative value and the slave axis then moves in the opposite direction from the master axis.  I would expect this to work with motors as well as the simulated axes I'm looking at.
    Some questions:
Are you using SoftMotion? Which version of the software are you using?
Are you trying to change the gearing during operation, or do you set a ratio and run with it through the full operation?
It might be useful to see the project, as you offered.
    Thanks,
    Edwin!

  • Reverse value order horizontal axis keynote chart

    Hi
I am trying to create a chart that shows rankings (so a lower number is better), so I want the low number to show the highest column. So I guess the zero should be at the top of the Y axis. Does anyone know how to invert the values on Y to show zero at top and max value at the bottom?
    Thanks

I am trying to create a chart that shows rankings (so a lower number is better)
Yes we get a lot of requests to do it that way but it  just completely confuses viewers. However, if you want to deliberately confuse your viewers create custom lables.
However, the most effective and the easiest way to display a rating scale thats understood is:
1 star for least and  5 stars for best, creating the chart in that fashion creates this:

  • Reversing the x-axis

    Hi,
By default, the x-axis in Java 3D runs from left to right. Does anyone know of a way to change this so that the x-axis runs from right to left?
    Thanks

I think you can use setScale for a non-uniform scaling, so you would use -1.0 , 1.0 , 1.0 , this would essentially be a mirror effect. Careful here, since your axes would no longer obey right hand rule, probably you could flip more than the x-axis to get the desired coord system you are shooting for.

  • 3d graph axis text reversed

    Hi
The 3d graph control is everything I could want for my application with one exception!
When you rotate a graph, the text for the axes becomes reversed. I have seen other controls that handle this but the NI version does not seem to have an option to maintain text direction.
If anyone knows any tricks, or even the right method to achieve this then please let me know.
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I'm afraid that with the present 3D Graph control, what you ask for is not possible. However, I thank you for your suggestion, and we shall consider adding this as an option in our future versions of the 3D Graph.

  • Waveform chart X-Axis reverses itself when upper limit is edited in Absolute Time - problem may be linked to Timestamp Control?

I've seen this problem for some time now, and it still exists in the Silver toolset Waveform Chart in LV 2012.  If the chart is in strip mode, and you edit the upper limit value to a point in the future, the X-Axis will invert (higher values/ later time to the left), to the limit of the Chart History length.  This happens whether the chart is active (logging data on a compiled executable) or even when in design mode, though it's more consistent when there's data in the chart.  It's not history length related as far as I can tell, as I set the length to 7 days of sampling @ 1-second intervals (605K), and it happens when I try to set the end time to an hour in the future with only a few minutes of data collected - suddenly the right Absolute Time becomes the time my last sample point was collected, while the left Absolute Time becomes nearly 7 days in the future (so neither end point is what I was setting it to).
It's nice that the chart gives the option of editing the limits, but as such, it's important that they work as you would expect them to.
Also - until this is addressed, is there a way to lock it against editing?  Until a fix is made, my workaround is to put a transparent button over the range start & end points, and a transparent flat rectangle above all other mid-range points, and pop-up a data entry form with a Timestamp control to allow editing.  Unfortunately, this doesn't work as I would expect, as typing "11 AM" in the Timestamp control over a prior value of say "10:05:34.232 AM" ends up becoming "11:05:34.232 AM" instead.  ???  Another error - or is this by design?  If it's by design, is there an option to make it behave as I would prefer (11 AM = 11:00:00.000 AM), as Excel behaves with timestamps?  I can't help but suspect this may be linked to the chart axis issue.
Also - I just built a simplified chart modeled somewhat on my current project, and could not get this to recur.  BUT... had the strangest thing happen:  My sample data was generated using the Trig functions for Sine and Cosine, and at one point my waveforms distorted on the display, so I'm attaching that here plus the simplified chart project.
Last - my system is LV 2012 on Win7 Pro-x64.
    Thanks!
    Erik

I am not so sure that this is a bug, and I have not been able to reproduce this behavior that you are describing.
But you can lock it from editing by right-clicking on the graph and go to Properties>>Appearance>>Enabled State --> Disabled
Also, word of advice for the future: You will get more replies from the community with shorter posts and keeping it to one question per post. Summarize what the issue is, and put the detailed documentation and instructions to reproduce in the actual VI.
