Reverse Engineering Portmon log to obtain Labview serial configuration settings

Hi there,
I am attempting to interface Labview with a custom-designed power supply device through a USB-RS232 adapter. The power supply came with a "debugging interface" programmed in java with which one can send and recieve commands to the board (detect, set voltage, get voltage, stop, reset, etc.) through the USB-RS232 adapter which works fine.
I however am not experienced with java in the least and want to streamline command sequences with Labview, as I am interfacing the rest of my lab equipment with Labview. I dont have experience connecting serial devices, I do have USBTMC & GPIB VISA interfaces with the other equipment.
Nonethless I've tried the advanced serial communication example provided by NI, (http://www.ni.com/example/27665/en/) - I have appropriately set to COM3 as my device manager (and MAX) find the correct port for the device, baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity, flow control, XON/XOFF characters, Input Buffer Size, End read/write with termination character, which termination character, and how long till time out.
Yet from my Portmon log, I'm seeing that the java interface sets a few other parameters that I (at the moment) do not have access to through the labview VI (or from MAX). How do I set Output Buffer Size? What are  EOF? EVT? Replace? XON/OFF limits? WC? How do I set them?
Both Portmon log files are attached.

Output Buffer Size - This is set with the VISA Set I/O Buffer Size VI that is in the example you were looking at. The documentation says it is just the Input buffer size but it is actually the I/O buffer size.
This forum post answers your question about XON/OFF Limits:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Can-I-set-XonLimit-and-XoffLimit-for-serial-port-communication/td-p/...
I am not sure yet about the other commands you have asked about. Have you looked around in the VISA Serial property node options? Have you made any progress?

  • Reverse engineering in Java Studio Enterprise 8.1

I tried to do the reverse engineering in Java Studio Enterprise 8.1.
The Reverse Engineering process launches which I can tell from the output log,
but I didn't see any diagram generated. What could be the problem?
    Thanks!

to see if the relationships are in the model, try to expand the class and interface nodes and they should have something like the following. If these are absent, there might be something in the reverse engineering process that lost the relationships.
    - package1
    - class1
    - Relationships
    - Implementation
    + interface1
    - package2
    - interface1
    - Relationships
    - Implementation
    + class1
As for sequence diagram, not sure how you created it. If you just cdfs the classes, you should not see any message except for the lifelines that represent the classes. If you select an operation of a class to do cdfs or reverse engineer operation, the sequence diagram will be generated.

  • ODI 11g - SQL Server reverse engineering - no objects

    Hi,
I'm using ODI 11g and I created the logical and physical schema and then a Model. When I reverse engineering it nothing appears under the model node. Is there any log that ODI provides, to check it? A very quick window appears and disappears so I'm not sure what's happening.
    Thank you

Facing same problem, how you fixed it?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
I am trying to install ODI using your blog, I'm also using sql server 2005, I copied sqljdbc.jar in the drivers folder of ODI, but I didn't have crimnson.jar file(which is there in your folder).. I tried to create master repository.. I selected
Driver: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver (I selected --Microsoft sql server 2000 driver for JDBC)
    URL : jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1026;SelectMethod=cursordatabaseName:Master_Rep
    User: sa
    password: ******
My sql server is listening on port 1026 (I checked it)
    Here I am not sure
    1) JDBC was installed properly or not
    2) and please let me know Driver and uRL are correct..
I want to know ..is this is JDBC Problem or Driver and url address problem.

  • Unable to apply reverse engineering to dbf file

    Hello everyone,
We are new to ODI and struggling to understand whether we are making an error or we are actually facing an issue with a .dbf file.
    Some details for everyone:
    - ODI version: 10.1.3.4.0
    - Platform: Win Server 2003 sp2
    - File we wish to load: xyz.dbf, where xyz.dbf is one of the 3 output files (xyz.shp, xyz.shx, xyz.dbf) of an ESRI geographic information systems software
    - We are not interested in the other .shp and .shx files but just in the .dbf one: hence we are treating this one as a stand-alone .dbf file.
Given the above elements, we have executed the following:
    a. Created an ODBC entry using the "Microsoft dbase Driver for dbf files" vs. the relevant directory storing the .dbf file (as well as the .shp, .shx);
    b. Used Topology Manager --> "Dbase" technology to build the relevant Data Server, Physical Schema and Logical Schema.
--- Up to this point when we test the connectivity to the .dbf file we have absolutely NO problems. ---
We have then proceeded in Designer:
    c. Creating an appropriate Model vs. the Logical Schema introduced at point b.
    d. Attempting the reverse-engineering process.
At this point however the "reverse engineering" has not performed what expected, as
    1. it has correctly introduced in Designer a datastore corresponding to the desired .dbf file, but
    2. it has not created any columns at all for the datastore, without producing any error message.
Additionally, clicking on the datastore just created and selecting from it the "reverse" option in the "columns" tab, an error window is retrieved: "java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC dBase Driver]Invalid string or buffer length".
At this point we are struggling to understand how to proceed further: shall we use a different ODBC driver/is this an error un-related to the ODBC driver we used/shall we use a different technology in consideration of the fact this .dbf file is not a stand-alone one but comes with .shp and .shx as well/anything else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi CTS,
First, thanks for your help - much appreciated.
However, we just tried to reverse the .dbf as you suggested using the custom reverse engineering via RKM SQL (Jython) module.
First two steps (1 - Reset Metadata, 2 - Create Jython Classes) worked OK, but third failed with the same error mentioned in the first thread:

  • ODI Reverse-Engineering Question

We've been using ODI 10.3.5.1 for about a year now. The current load process was set up for us during implementation of Hyperion Planning. We are now trying to add a new dimension to our hierarchy, and I mistakenly went in and added the columns manually to all the models I could think of. I also added the columns into the source and target datastores in the interfaces manually.
Naturally, the load did not work. I keep getting the error "invalid column name 'Cost_Center'. I have been told by the installer (over email) that i should have reverse-engineered the models, and let the program build all the datastores. I tried to do the reverse-engineering, and am now getting an error for the HYP_PLANNING model, and the HYP_ESSBASE model runs and runs and runs, without doing anything noticeable.
How long should a reversal run? I don't believe our hierarchy is extraordinarily huge.
This is all in the TEST environment right now, but I need to put things in LIVE for August financials, so I have until 9/9/09 to figure this stuff out. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Like I said, it was done by the consultant, so I don't even know what an agent is.

    Dear Expert
    Still facing this problem.
I did several tests, changing flexfields in physical topology and the parameters of RKM.
But the result is always the same.
    What else could do.
    The doubt remains.
    Should be poss edit details.

  • JDeveloper capabilities for Reverse Engineering existing instances and data

We are experiencing difficulty obtaining the indexes, synonyms, and triggers via reverse-engineering capture of existing 10g DB's. Does JDeveloper have the capabilities for Reverse Engineering all objects from existing DB's ?
Will 10g JDeveloper handle reverse-engineering large 300 table schemas rich with large quantity of indexes, synonyms, & triggers?
And last, how can a listing of the Data Dictionary be extracted /exported in CSV or excel format for review distribution? Via JDeveloper? We have a large distributed development, test, quality, and integration team which prefers to review various elements of schema updates and changes in excel.
    Thanx.

    Vicki-
Thanks for the additional info. I was thinking you were most concerned with reverse-engineering existing schemas. I did not realize you were designing new schemas.
When you mention ERDs, are you interested in logical ERDs (as compared to physical tables and foreign keys)? If you are interested in doing pure logical ERD modelling, then Designer is the way to go. It has been years since I worked with Designer, but it has ooodles of capabilities to forward and reverse engineer between databases, physical models, and logical models of schemas. It sounds like you might be using Designer today and are hitting some snags. Is this the case? If so, I suggest you see if Oracle Support or the Designer forum can help you get past the specific Designer issues. The forum for Oracle Designer is here: Designer
Sue mention that JDeveloper does support database modelling. Here is a how-to for JDeveloper 11g that shows how it works:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/db_dev/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm
The how-to is pretty complete showing you forward and reverse engineering capabilities.
    A few more minor notes:
1.The JDeveloper schema modelling features work on a physical (not logical) level. In other words, they work on tables not entities.
2.The SQL Developer report features certainly work on "DATA". But, the "DATA" they work on can certainly be the data dictionary data. In other words, I can write a report in SQL Developer that queries all of the column names, column data types for a subset of tables. Then I can export that "DATA" into excel and use it for whatever your downstream needs are. The potential capabilities are practically unlimited.
    Cheers,
    -dave

  • Reverse Engineering fails to "identify" parent - child relationship

Using Reverse Engineering I obtained two classes - visual compapesence clearly shows that one is inherited from another.
I wish I could copy and paste individual "class Diagrams' for each of those two to demonstrate my point ...
How I could merge those two class diagrams together and "force"
to recognize "parent" <-> child relationship /

On possible solution is to create a diagram in each pacakge that was reverse engineered.
I agree with peter, that a single diagram would not be useful when revese engineering a large project. When diagram get that large, it is hard to see more than a couple of model elements at one time. While we do have the Navigate Link tool, it is still painful to navigate around the diagram. If you printed a diagram that big, it would take up an entire wall.
It is hard to determine what diagrams are needed to explain a software project. For this reason, we have tried to make it easy to build diagrams. Peter, mentioned the first mechanism. Create Diagram From Selected (CDFS) was designed to allow the user to select the model elements that need to populate a diagram. When performing CDFS the diagram will be populated, Relationship Discovery will be executed, and the diagram will be layed out.
Another approach is to create a dependency diagram. You can select a model element, and create a dependency diagram. The contents of a dependency diagram will be the model elements that the selected model element uses. For example, if the model element generalizes from another model element, the super class will be present on the diagram. If another model elements extends the selected model element, the subclass will not be represented on the dependency diagram.
Another diagram creation tool that might be needed is a inheritance diagram creator. An inheritance diagram creator, would make it very easy to see model element super classes, implemented interfaces, and the subclasses.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi,
Under the readme eRPI : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/readme/erpi_1112200_readme.html
    I find this :
ODI Setup Steps to Integrate with Financial Management
To setup the ODI to integrate with Financial Management:
    Rename odiparams.bat located at <ODI_HOME>\oracledi\agent\bin to odiparams.bat.backup.
The default installation location is C:\app\Oracle\product\11.1.1\Oracle_ODI_1.
Download Oracle Data Integrator Companion CD 11.1.1.6.2.
Unzip the contents of the Companion CD to the temp directory.
    Unzip oracledi-agent-standalone.zip.
    Copy the contents to: <ODI_HOME>.
Make a backup of the HFMDriver.DLL.
For the 32 bit operating system, copy HFMDriver32_11.1.2.2.dll as HFMDriver.DLL.
For the 64bit operating system, copy HFMDriver64_11.1.2.2.dll as HFMDriver.DLL.
Rename odiparams.bat.backup from Step 1 to odiparams.
Edit the PATH to include: <ODI_HOME>\oracledi.sdk\lib
    Restart the ODI Agent.
I try this procedure, but now, I have a new error :
    - Unable to connect on "myhfmserver" with "admin" user
I think that, there is another step to do, because now HFM 11.1.2.2 use directly the "EPM Registry" (into Shared Services Schema) to retreive the HFM servers ou Clusters.
But I don't find any information, how to setup this part into ODI.
Or may be, we need to setup "Regedit Keys" into Windows registry like previous HFM release ?
If you have any news, please inform me

  • Unable to generate Logical Model Diagrams through Reverse Engineering

    Hi,
I am currently using SQL Developer Data Modeler Version-3.0.04.
I have generated Logical Model Diagrams from Relational Model Diagrams through Reverse Engineering (Done by pressing an" engineer to Logical Model button" on top panel of sql developer) .I saved the DMD file (source file) once i had done generating the logical diagrams. Now if i reopen the DMD and open the logical diagram again I found that most of the tables had lost their relationships. So i tried to regenerate the Logical Model Diagram again from the same Relational Diagram but it is not being generated unless i create a new Relational Diagram. Is there a way to generate multiple Logical Diagrams for the same Relational Diagram rather than creating a new one for each Logical Diagram to be created.
    Regards .
    Thanks in advance.

    hi Dev
    1. Have you defined the correct link between DSN and your Excel File the answer is yes
    2. Have you test the Connection in Topology ?yes and it's OK
    3. Also is your Excel file has an Extension of XLS ? yes
    4. When reversing have you check the required Technology - Microsoft Excel with required Logical Schema and context Yes i have Microsoft Excel with required Logical Schema and context
and also try checking the Tables and System Tables for reversing .I' can't
