Reverse question Can the W530 chiclet keyboard be installed in a W520

Hello,
I had the opportunity to try out the T530 / W530 chiclet keyboard and really liked it
I have bit of a reverse question
Can a new chiclet type keyboard be installed in a W520 and would the bios have to be changed
for key mapping etc..
Thanks in advance for your help

It won't fit due to a slightly different surrounding bezel.  And even if it did fit (or you replaced the bezel which would allow it to fit), then BIOS wouldn't support it anyway - key mapping problems.

We have to make use of the old computer which has a win95 system, can the LV 7.0 be installed on win 95 system?

LabVIEW 7 does not officially support Windows 95. You may be able to install and use LabVIEW 7 on Win 95, but
LabVIEW 7 is not guaranteed to work properly on 95.

  • Questions on the W530

    Hey Everyone,
I am a college student who is looking to buy a new laptop in the coming weeks, and have made the W530 my top choice. For now I plan to use it for everyday tasks and entertainment, but eventually I'll use it for coding with matlab as well as Microsoft visual studios and possibly some programs for 3D printing. I plan on getting the base options that it comes with but I am having trouble deciding on the screen. I planned on getting the 1600x900 screen but I'd like to know how it differs from the 1920x1080 FHD screen. Is the difference noticeable or should I be fine with just the 1600X900 screen? If I were to get the FHD screen is it possible to install a blu-ray player later on, or is that out of the question since Lenovo does not offer that as an option. And last question, how reliable are the recent W530's as I've seen many posts about problems in the W530 that seem to only effect the ones from early 2012?
Any help on these questions would be extremely appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. The HD+ 1600x900 screen on W530 is of good quality. The FHD 1920x1080 screen on W530 is of excellent quality. Choosing which one is really a matter of personal preference and needs, although it is obvious that the FHD provides a larger working area.
    2. Installing a Blu-ray drive (to replace the stock DVD drive) is separate from the FHD screen option and can be done by yourself. Check this:
    http://www.primitivebuteffective.com/2011/05/lenovo-w520-for-sony-vegas-pro-10-and_23.html
    3. In general, the W530 is a great (relatively portable) workstation.

  • So what do you think of the new Chiclet keyboard?

From seing pictures I miss the blue enter button. I haven't tried it out yet, has anyone had any physical experience?

  • Can the creative cloud apps be installed on a drive other than the boot drive?

I have an SSD for the boot drive and keep most apps on an 'applications' drive. It appears that CC apps install by default to the boot drive. Am I incorrect? Can I control what drive they install on?

Yes you can change the install location:
    Launch the Adobe Application Manager.
Click on your name in the top left and from the context menu choose Preferences.
Change the Install Location to the one you want.

in the main bay as a boot drive and for programs
(i would get the samsung 830 7mm 256gb ssd, but there is only one online store that sells it in canada and it is a bit more expensive)
When installing the hard drive in the ultrabay, it needs the hard drive caddy.
Lenovo sells an official one, but there is also one from NewModeUS, according to various forum posts apparently works better and is slightly cheaper

I talked to a tech on the phone and he said that the 500gb will come with some rubber rails, but i will need more for the SSD
Is it also possible to install a 9.5mm SSD into the main bay without rails?
If not, can someone link me to the rails on the lenovo site? i rather not have to deal with Ebay even if it is a few bucks more...

i haven't decided if i will need 16gb of ram for the coding I will do once i start my CS degree in the fall, but i assume if I am using lots of Virtual machines or what not to run Linux side by side with Windows, (that's possible right?) it might gobble up the GB's, i also might experiment with ram disks to see how those work...
    also:
any tips on reinstalling operating system on SSD so i retain the lenovo utilities that came on the factory image on the HDD,
I know you can download most of them from lenovo to install, but are there any that are only from the factory image?
should i make a clean install or make disc image?
Is there anything that I missed that might not make these upgrades go as smoothly as possible?
    any info is appreciated

I have a machine with essentially the same specs, except I have 16GB of ram. I'd say get the RAM. 16GB makes my machine run like a dream. i'm in engineering, so I run AutoCAD and other similar applications. If you do use VM's, then you will want the extra memory as well. The machine can run linux, but with the loss of the Optimus, as it is not supported well. Do a clean install, but make the Recovery dvds first. also go to the root of the hard drive and back up the SWTOOLS and swshare folders. those contain all of the preloaded software. I always do a clean install when I get a new machine. Everything else looks good.

  • Can the "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" unlock an iOS device?

I have a iOS device where the touch screen isn't working any more after some water damage, and even replacing the front display doesn't help. It's apparently a problem on the circuitboard that I cannot get fixed.
I only need to be able to unlock it so that I can connect it to iTunes and back it up, so I wonder if this "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" can be used to unlock the device.
Does someone own this keyboard and could try this? Can you unlock the iPad or iPhone and enter a passcode after pressing the wake button, without having the swipe on the screen?

No.  The iPad Keyboard Dock connects to the iPad through 30 pin connector on the iPad.  Your PC wouldn't have that connector.
Instead, you should just get a USB keyboard, which basic models are often just $20.

  • Can the apple wireless keyboard work with Apple TV

I just set up my ATV and was wondering if it can recognize an apple wireless keyboard. If so, how would I set that up?

No, this is not currently possible.
If you have an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad you could use Apple's Remote app.

Is Bluetooth turned on on the iPad? (I am not trying to be funny, just asking).
Try resetting the iPad by holding the power and home keys down until the Apple logo appears (15-20 seconds).

  • Can the Photoshop CS5 upgrade be installed on two pcs?

I have photoshop CS2 installed on my desktop and have an upgrade to CS5 on the way. Someone told me that with current adobe products, it's ok to install a copy on your desktop and on your notebook, which is what I'd like to do with photoshop CS5. Is that ok, or was I mis-informed, and installation is restricted to a single pc?

One at a time wouldn't be an issue, as long as that means what is sounds like it does. Does it literally 'call in' to adobe and make sure it's the only install of that key that is running?
But, good for adobe for setting it up this way. It will be handy to have a copy on the notebook for times we are on the road.

  • Can the Boot Camp Drivers be installed independently of each other?

I am having major issues with Boot Camp 3.1. It seems to put the windows 7 side of my mac to sleep immediately upon boot up. I have isolated the problem to Boot Camp and I was wondering if I could remove individual drivers to isolate which driver is causing the problem.
    thanks,
    C

    Hi,
the Driver Setup program cannot do this so you would have to do this yourself "by hand".
For that copy the full content (files and folders) of the BootCamp Driver package from your OSX Install DVD to a folder on your Windows partition.
I prefer something like "c:\download" for this.
After that go through the appropriate Folders for the hardware components in your Mac and install each driver by hand.
Have you already tried the Safe-Boot options of WIndows 7 as described here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-s afe-mode especially the Safe Mode and the Enable Boot Logging to determine if it is indeed a Driver problem or maybe some kind of startup item ?

  • Can the AirPort Extreme work as an extender?

Simple question: Can the AirPort Extreme work as a wireless network extender? (I have tried to research this online, of course, but I haven't had much luck.)
Background: The only option from our ISP is a router/modem combination. It used to be plugged directly into my dad's (Dell and Windows) desktop computer, but I was having trouble connecting all my devices wirelessly. So, I moved it into the kitchen and plugged it into the phone line (we have AT&T DSL) and got a USB wireless adapter for my dad's computer (because he didn't think he needed the wireless option on his "fancy" new Dell). I also have a different brand of adapter plugged into my old iMac G3, which I LOVE using.
Since doing this, my dad has constantly complained of his Internet not working correctly, things loading slowly, and having trouble connecting at all. (Full disclosure: he STILL uses the complete desktop version of AOL and refuses to give it up.) However, I've had no trouble on ANY of my devices--the G3, my white MacBook, my iPad, my iPod, or my mom's Kindle Fire. This leads me to believe the problem lies in the fact that he's using AOL because I usually don't have trouble when I briefly use Chrome on his desktop.
I've tried finding different solutions, including flashing an old router to use an extender and researching different extenders and bridges and such, but nothing looks like a viable solution because of all our components.
I'm wondering if the AirPort Extreme (probably the A1143;or any of the other AirPort devices) can work as an extender. To appease my dad, it'd be best to take the modem/router back to his man cave so he can hook it back up to his computer, but I'm not sure if the AirPort can pick up the wireless signal and perhaps be plugged directly into my G3 and otherwise act as an extender for my other devices (while searching for an Internet solution for my G3, I read on here that someone did this, but there was no further information on how it worked) or if I can plug it into the kitchen phone line and keep the USB adapter for the G3 and have wireless access to all my other things.
    Help?
(I can't find the original support article where a responder mentioned using the AirPort station with an iMac G3, but i did locate this one: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13080786#13080786)
(My iMac is one of the later ones. It's running 10.4.1 and is a 600MHz model.)

Simple question: Can the AirPort Extreme work as a wireless network extender?
Simple answer: Yes....IF....the AirPort Extreme is extending a wireless network that is being provided by another Apple 802.11n wireless router.
Another way of saying the same thing is that it will take a minimum of two Apple 802.11n wireless routers to extend a signal wirelessly.
The more complex answer involves distances and obstructions involved in the setup, or alternate solutions such as running Ethernet cabling or using Ethernet powerline adapters.

  • Can the g_f0x variables be accessed in PL/SQL code in page rendering?

    Hi,
I have set a button in a tabular form that runs a dynamic action made up of 2 parts in sequence:
    (1) a PL/SQL code that updates a collection using g_f01 (selected items in the tabular form)
    (2) a javascript that calls apex.server.process to display the selected items in a region
All this code is in the page rendering section being called from a button, and thats the only way it seems to fire PL/SQL and javascript from a button
    one after the other.
I have a page process called "submit" that does a loop through the g_f01 values again and updates the collection again just to check.
Now, the PL/SQL code in the dynamic action does not see any selected values in the g_f01 array, while the code in the "submit" page process.
sees them correctly. I've used debug to check.
Question: Can the g_f0x values of a tabular form columns be accessed through a PL/SQL in page rendering, or can they
only be accessed through a page process?
If not, can the g_f0x values be saved in a global array somewhere although that will make things more complicated.

    Hi Jorge,
    Thanks for answering,
If only I had known, because my whole cunning plan was based on this!
Been in APEX only for some 2 weeks, and its a whole new environment coming from the quiet forms6i way
of doing things, and sometimes a bit strange.
I am using collections in fact as my tabular form is based on a view based on a collection.
However, the cells in the form only seem to be placeholders and any changes seem to be made to only the
g_f0x arrays, and the underlying collection members have to be updated programatically.
So if I lose the g_f0x values I cannot update the collection. chicken and eggs.
The flow needs to run a PL/SQL to update the collection, followed by a javascript call to apex.server.process to print the values in a region.
Yon cannot have javascript as a page process, and g_f0x values in the rendering part, so is there anywhere apart from a 2-step dynamic action,
that we can force the run of PL/SQL code followed by javascript? This sounds excessively complicated. The normal APEX approach would be to submit the page, and update the collection from the tabular form <tt>apex_application.g_fxx</tt> array values in a post-submit process. The updated collection values can be displayed in a region using SQL or PL/SQL on page show without recourse to JavaScript.
This early in your use of APEX, why are you not just using the basic technique?

  • Can the AirPort Extreme Base Station be plug-in to the power forever?

    Hi,
sorry for my english but this is my question: Can the AirPort Extreme Base Station be plug-in to the power (electricity) forever? I mean, I don't have to un-plug the Base Station sometimes? Thanks
    Alvaro

Sounds more like an issue with your router and
network than a problem with AEBS.
    Which router?
I certainly do not need to reboot my AEBS like that,
I think I have rebooted it once in two years!
I would start a new thread describing your network in
more detail and the issues with the AEBS.
Thank you, but my diagnosis is the result of many days
of experiment with about hundreds of users. It's a bug,
I know were it is. It was reported to Apple in september
    (2005).
It isn't that easy to upgrade at the same time all the
wireless (802.11b and 802.11g) that do have to interoperate
    smoothly within the same space.
I don't think anyone need to waste more time on these
bugged firmware versions (5.6 & 5.7) as I already explained
it. They work smoothly just in a limited environment
which they were conceived for: one Mac connected to one
    AEBS connected to one FAI.
You can't recommand these version to colleagues who have
to live in a real world with other wireless equipment
(a Mac not updated, an ABS not updated,
a Cisco wireless card emitting to 100 mW and smashing all
the neibourhood, a pre 802.11g+ card using 2 channels at
    the same time...).
